Sprint Touch Pro data connection issues

I've owned a Touch Pro for a few months now and overall it's a good device. It has its quirks, but then again what phone doesn't? There is one problem in particular, however, that I can't seem to figure out. I've searched up and down in XDA Forums, and on Google, and I just can't find out a fix for my data connection always turning on for no reason. I have all my e-mail accounts set to "manual send / recieve", the weather program set to "update weather manually", and as far as I know there are no other programs on my phone that have access to the internet without my permission.
The problem I have is sometimes I will wake my phone up from its sleep mode, and I will discover that the data connection is active and appearing to be transmitting. Also, EVERY time I restart my phone and it goes through the boot process, the data connection will re-activate even before TouchFLO 3D opens up on the today screen. It's really annoying, because I have no idea what's causing it to do this, or why it does it at random times, or whenever I reset my device.
Does anyone have any solutions to this problem? I hate having to manually go in periodically and make sure my data connection is set to "off", instead of having it stay that way when I set it.
So no help on this one then?
I don't have a solution but I can help by bumping your thread and saying I have the same problem on Verizon. I was at a friend's place all weekend, and he has wifi all over, so I turned off data and used his wifi instead. Well sure enough all weekend my data connection kept turning itself back on. It seemed to happen only when going into sleep mode. So I kept the phone plugged in so it would never totally "sleep". Wifi stayed connected with no data connection starting automatically. Annoying especially considering the 5 GB data limit on the PDA plan.
Well I'm glad I'm at least not alone on this one. It's weird too that even though your device is on a different carrier, it still does the same thing. I wonder if it's a hardware issue?
I know that someone has to have an answer for this...
go into pocket express and press menu then go to express settings then on the top left theres a pulldown press it and go into auto updates and turn it off.. pissed me off when i got the phone.. couldnt find a fix till i started going through all the programs to find the one doing it.. and it was the stupid Pocket Express
I have had my MDA Compact V for a few months now, and it's only recently that I've had the same problem. Each time I switch on, my data connection starts or alternatively if I loose signal then get it back then I see my data connection is on again. Thankfully I have the Solo 20 package with unlimited net usage (although you're are limited to 1Gb/month) but it drains my battery really badly.
I went through every possible setting and program to switch off location settings or auto downloads/updates and I still have the same problem, but I downloaded Data Controller v1.00 from Freewarepocketpc.net and I can toggle my data connection on or off as I please.
Heres what you need
Install below cab, then use the NODATA app, select what you want off, PHONE AS MODEM and DATA are your two options I believe... Your data will never come back on... until you re-enable it that is....
PS... THIS IS NOT MY CAB, THIS IS SOMETHING I FOUND WHEN TRYING TO ADDRESS THESAME PROBLEM YOU ARE HAVING. THIS CAB WAS DOWNLOADED FROM MoDaCo BUT I DONT HAVE THE LINK... ALL RESPECTS GO TO HIM... I AM JUST SHARING WHAT HAS WORKED FOR ME IN THE PAST...
Seems it's one or the other
What sucks is on my Sprint HTC touch pro 2 (cdma), I was having a problem where I couldn't answer calls all the time, but sometimes I could, and eventually found that it was always when the data connection was showing active is when I couldn't answer a call. But when that was happening, my data connection would turn back off after a few seconds when I was done using it. It was driving me crazy not being able to answer my calls and I finally found a post that let me correct that problem, it was changing the HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Planner\Settings\SuspendResume value that fixed this problem... the value of this registry setting was originally "GPRS_bye_if_device_off". This setting made it so the data connection would turn off when not being used, but it apparently messes up cdma phones from being able to switch over to answer an incoming phone call if the data connection is active. I changed this registry entry to "#777" as the post said to do, and sure enough, that corrected the problem with being able to answer my calls if the data connection is active. I'm real happy to have that working now, but when I changed this setting, my data connection is now always showing active (white arrows showing in status) and even if I turn it off manually, it comes on by it's self way more often than the every 4 hours I have it set to check emails.
There is a registry setting called CacheTime under the same Settings key as the above mentioned registry entry that I changed, that when the "GPRS_bye_if_device_off" value is used, the CacheTime key value will indeed control how long the data connection stays on before automatically turning off. But When I change the Entry to "#777" which is necessary to allow me to answer calls when data is active, then changing the CacheTime value has no effect and the data connection stays on until you manually turn it off.
I'd like to find a way to turn the data connection off, while still not messing up me being able to answer calls when the data connection is active, and seems to me that if both of these things can be done separately with two different registry settings, that it must be possible to do both.... so if any of you tech wizards can find a way to do this, I'd love to see it!
Possible Fix?
Hey, I have noticed the same problem. It is annoying from a battery life aspect as well as a system slowdown when coming out of sleep. I could not find much of a workaround except one of the settings in TD3 Tools I installed. In the "Data Connection" tab you can yurn on an option that makes your "End" key also terminate an active data connections. So if you hit it after waking your phone you won't have the annoying slowdown with your Sense UI...

WiFi won't reconnect when it wakes up after 3.2 update

So I'm rooted and have the latest/corrected 3.2 with pershoot's OC kernel...and nothing else. I noticed when I wake up my tab sometimes it will reconnect the WiFi sometimes it won't. Not sure why it's spotty. Before it used to reconnect almost instantaneously every time without fail. Is there a fix for this? Am I missing something?
I've got the same problem.
Nevertheless, the wifi code is store and don't ask for it
same problem
Ditto. I've resorted to just leaving it in the "always stay connected" mode even when the screen is off. Eats a bit more battery, but at least I don't have to toggle wifi every time I turn it on.
I've got the same problem on a brand new Tab 10.1N (special version for germany) WIFI edition. The tab came with Android 3.2 stock installed. First i thought it is my wlan ap which is causing the problem but it happens also on 2-3 other aps i've tried. I find this very annoying, especially on this high priced device... hopefully there will be a bugfix release soon.
So I did find out what the issue was for me. It was the Ad Free app. For some reason everytime I woke my Tab up, if the Ad Free message didn't come up neither did WiFi. When it did come up, WiFi would auto turn on again. So I removed this stupid thing and voila problem is resolved. Not sure if it'll work for others b/c like I said I'm rooted and Ad Free is a rooted app. Good luck though!

I have the same problem. Remove Ad Free, but the problem remains

(SOLVED) Wi-Fi turning itself off regularly. Is this a known bug???

Something that has been annoying me since the day I bought the tablet (LTE SPG 521)
When the tablet has been idle for a while, the WiFi turns itself off.
So whenever I pick it up without thinking, open chrome to start web browsing, I am connected to internet, and things are fine until I realise that I have been using 3G instead of WiFi.
Most of the time I need to go into shortcut quick access from pulling down top right corner and turn WiFi on.
Sometimes I need to go into WiFi settings and turn it on, even though the quick access shortcut says WiFi is on.
I do have stamina mode on, but have disabled every other power saving feature related to WiFi. In fact it is the same setting on my Z Ultra and Z1 Compact, but needless to say, I do not see this behaviour on my other sony devices.
But somehow on the tablet, WiFi does not auto connect, even in presence of a WiFi router that is set for auto connect.
Even If I was using the particular access point for WiFi connection, lets say I play games for about 30 minutes... the connection is lost and I need to go into WiFi settings to turn it on again (with the small slide to the right toggle switch within WiFi settings to turn on WiFi itself).
Anyone else experiencing this?
I would rather avoid it, since over usage on 3G for me means speed throttling later in the month...
P.S. Yes, I am on latest firmware 17.1.A.2.69
On Advanced WiFi, Keep wifi on during sleep is set to ALWAYS., avoid poor connection is turned OFF, and Wifi optimization is also OFF
Factory reset it? That's probably the first thing they tell you to do if you approach the technicians, if the problem still persist then demand for an exchange if not refund it.
I'd just bought mine today and unfortunately the bottom right corner the glass sticks out and it is pushable. I'm going to exchange it tmr.
Sent from my C6603 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Thanks for the idea, but no luck.
In any case each time I upgraded firmware, it should have sorted itself out, but problem still remains...
"Factory reset" is always the first "solution" you get by "technicians". Usually translates to: "Keeps the customer occupied for hours, silencing him."
Regarding the issue: I cannot confirm that, NO WLAN issues with my LTE Z2, it's just "always on", never losing the connection.

Do you have stamina mode ON?
With my other Xperias, the second I turn my screen on, the wifi is off/sleeping, but it launches and connects almost instantaneously. I guess the problem in my tablet is that it is not doing so, requiring me to do it manually...
I thought the FW for the tablet and the phone Z2 was the same? Maybe I should go and look in the forums over there...
I don't have the problem, either.
UPDATE
Problem Solved.
The cause was ad blocker app that I had installed, and it seems to me that whenever I was using certain apps that needed ad-blocking, all this thing would do is turn wifi off (but not 3g/LTE)
How Dumb is that?
Anyways, Wifi now always on even with stamina mode on.
Thanks for all who listened and threw suggestions!
Thanks

Thank you very much for sharing this with us. Too many others just keep silent if they found the reason of their problems.

Loosing WiFi-Connection

Since the beginning I have the problem that my 360 constantly looses Wifi connection as soon as Ieave the WiFi settings menu on the watch.
So I press connect to a wifi, then leave that menu, go straight back into that menu and the watch starts to reconnect. I let it reconnect, leave the menu again, go back into wifi settings and again it start to reconnect. And so on. I'm running Android Wear 1.3.2230669 Build LLA44S
Is 1.4 already available for the 360? I got the Android Wear-App-Update today.
The same thing happens to me and I am running the same version...not sure if Bluetooth has priority and thats why it keeps disconnecting? I had problems with the Google services that kept crashing and found it had something to do with the WiFi as when I turned it off I was no longer getting the Play services fault message.
I have passed the info onto Motorola and they have just told me its being passed to the relevant department.

Yes, it seems so Bluetooth has priority and wifi will only be use if Bluetooth isinaccessible or the Smartphone is out oft range

Wifi connected but cant update playstore apps or play online games

Hi! I am not sure if this is the same wifi bug that everyone is reporting. But please hear me out. I have been using my RN9s for over 2 months now. No issues whatsoever. Then yesterday I picked up my phone connected to my wifi then showed me this notification "This wifi network has no access to the internet". The weird part is that I can get online with every apps in my phone except for gaming app that requires internet connection and I am unable to update and download any apps from playstore. Here are the steps I did to try and fix the issue. Restart phone, power off completely, clear cache for playstore and apps that are not accessing internet and master reset the device. I did ask friends and workmates who are using the same ISP and they dont encounter any issues like mine. Restart, power off completely and master reset my modem/router as well but to no avail. Any thoughts? Thank you!
