How to Switch between Kernels ? - Xiaomi Poco F1 Questions & Answers

Suppose a ROM comes wit X kernel (by default from developer) , there are Y & Z Kernel and I have flashed Y Kernel . now for some reason I want to use/flash Z kernel , how to do so without reflashing the whole ROM again from start or can I flash (Z) over (X) kernel ?

Open the ROM.zip file and extract the boot.img file from there. Flash this boot.img file from TWRP and then flash any kernel you want.
Fyi if the kernels you're flashing have the same base then you don't need to flash the boot.img file before. If you don't know what this "base" is then just flash the boot.img file before flashing different kernels.

Thanks

FastFlash v0.1
Hey!
just made a small tool for easy flashing of .img files!
you can just drag'n'drop the .img files directly onto the application! (must be in root folder tho)
Else you put the .img files in the "IMG" folder, then run the application
Requirements:
Any 2011+ Xperia model
Fastboot drivers
Windows
Cheers!
ps:
check my signature and click "2011 xperia firmware list", there you will find some stock kernels!

Just download the kernel, which you want.
All kernels are in .img format, sometimes the file is just packed to a .zip file, then you need to extract it first.
This should help many new user which interested to flash a new custom kernel

any ROM modem/kernel

If I'll delete the modem file from the any ROM's zip file, it will install everything fine except the modem?
Same thing with the kernel file into the zip?
There is no problem to delete the modem file (where is kernel file @ the zip?) and flash it without modem - cuz I want to keep the modem I've got instead of flashing again the modem.....
thanks!
I assume you are talking about stock firmware here.

Not absolutely sure but this should work. However it is probably better or easier to go the other way: flash the entire firmware and then revert to the kernel/modem you prefer. Kernels and modems can be individually downloaded either to be flash with CWM or ODIN.
The kernel of a stock firmware can be found in the corresponding I9100_CODE.... tar file. If you look into this tar you will find a file named zImage, this is the kernel.
Thanks mate, I'm talking about a custom ROM (AOKP based)
if its possible to do this ,,, ?
[VIA CWM]
If you flash a custom rom and you end up with a modem you don't like you can re- flash preferred modem separately after you have installed the ROM. There are several threads here that have many downloadable modems to choose from. All the best.

yeah, i know mate, but just curious to avoid this action (of flashing other modem again, even though its a pice of cake) if i'll delete the modem.bin file from the ROM's zip file // or kernel file .... if it will flash the ROM without any issue (without the modem/kernel file that i've deleted from the zip)
I see, I'm sorry I can't advise you on that as I'm a noob myself and have not started at altering ROMs prior to flashing. Sorry.

Most roms do not include a modem. (Well all the proper roms). And like previously stated, just take note of what modem you have and just reflash it in cwm recovery.

Anyway to flash kernel without pc?

is there any way to flash kernels without connecting our phones to pc?
a friend of mine had an HTC incredible s that could flash kernels on it by the phone only. is the same thing possible on SE mdpi's?
I think no.
Unfortunately, certainly not.
Hi
If you have a zip format flashable package containing a kernel, way shouldn't you?
When you flash a ROM, you flash also its kernel.

ROM isn't same as kernel. Kernel is medium between hardware and software. Same as you can't change ROM while phone's turned on.

Wrong, when you flash a rom you don't even touch the kernel, I guess you were talking about flashing a ftf file via flashtool.

reflash CM10.1
If you're not using CM10.1, extract the boot.img (kernel) from cm10.1 and put it in a flashable zip / tar for CWM / Mobile odin
Or download one of the CM10 kernel variants such asn yank or Temasek

Just drag the boot.img into an existing flashable .tar or .zip for a kernel and replace the existing file. Usually, you should take nandroids before flashing things.

You need not.
Another way is to simply dirty flash your current ROM but you will have to re-flash TWRP, Magisk etc.
