Can someone explain the MIUI versioning number strategy? 10.x vs 9.x - Xiaomi Poco F1 Questions & Answers

I'm a little confused here:
I'm currently running 10.3.4.0 Global on my pocophone, but when checking miui forums I see new beta's arise like 9.4.26 and now 9.5.6.
So why is that version number lower than the current stable one?
Can someone explain the approach Xiaomi has on this?
Previously had an S7 edge, there it was simple: higher number = newer built.

Beta numbering depends on release date.
For example,
9 means year, 5 means month and 6 means date.

Actually I think the first number is based on the Android version.
For examply 9.4.25 is the April 25th release version of the Android Pie (9) MIUI skin

You are on MIUI 10.3.4.0.
The latest is version of year (201)9 of MIUI 10 that came out on the 6th of May (5th month)
EDIT: sorry, hadn't refreshed and didn't see it had been answered.

Slightly confused, am on 10.3.4.0 so what does it read as? Because it is Android 9 .

I think it means miui "10" March 4th release or something.
Edit: hmm.. For stable version, I'm sure that 10 stands for miui version. But "3.4.0" can't be explained by same logic like beta because there's 10.0.6.0(oreo). Well, at least it's not android version.

MIUI 10 is based on Android 9, but it is MIUI 10.
MIUI 10 for poco had 3 major updates (10.3) the 3rd update had 4 sub-updates (10.3.4) and no bug-fix updates (10.3.4.0)
The 9.4.26, 9.5.6, etc of the beta versions is "year"."month"."day"

Thanks to a for explanation. How often do Xiaomi update with security patches or are they only updated with MIUI updates? Current security on my phone is 1 March 2019.

[ROM] Mi 8 Miui 10 Global Beta 8.11.1 Android Pie

Update:
Miui 10 8.11.1 Android Pie: http://bigota.d.miui.com/8.11.1/miui_MI8Global_8.11.1_ed2903c393_9.0.zip
What's the changelog?
Sent from my MI 8 using Tapatalk
Maybe it has ARB, so keep eyes opens (on xiaomi.eu the new roms based on android 9 are marked with “Anti Roll Back” )
Looks like its still android 8.1 by the filename.
I flashed this. This is also global beta, but the closed nightly one. I am unsure of the changelog (no permission)
I've read some comments saying the number at the end of the ROM file represents the Android version (It's still 8.x Oreo).
miui_MI8Global_8.9.4_5162352d78_8.1.zip
According to the mi forums there are just some bug fixes. Nothing new at all. The software developers of Xiaomi are seriously a joke. There's still no official stable even after three months after release of their allegedly flagship that got unveiled with MIUI 10. The Chinese and global version differs in features (Chinese shows WhatsApp notifications in the Always On screen for example), the cheap ass Mi8se got miui10 already, but the flagship doesn't, ok Google never worked in any Rom so far and not to forget the whole discussion about bootloader's or GPS. It's a ridiculous failure so far in my opinion

I need tonwait 720 hours to unlock. Is it ok to flash it via updatet or better to wait for the fastboot/unlocked bl?
just flash via updater like me. just make sure u have a global version mi 8.
Is it really based on Android 9.0?
It's not, how do you get that idea? Funny thing is, that the roms get worse with every update IMHO. The best working so far was actually 8.8.7. With 8.8.21 some of the gestures stopped working and the AOD flashed white before activating, additionally it became slow and laggy after some time without reboot. The AOD is fixed now, gestures still doesn't fully work, same goes for "ok Google". Why the Chinese version supported WhatsApp notifications in the AOD and the global doesn't is another oddity. I'm not impressed.

Will data be erased if I update from updater? I am still on latest global stable.

It's android 9 to have anti-roll back, we are still on 8.1 there. Should HAVE NOT the ARB.

Its still 8.1, are you sure?
Global 8.9.6 is still Oreo. To be exact: 8.1.0 OPM 171019.026 Tapping 8.1.0 shows Oreo cookie. Hope that answers.

Best MIUI for stock RN4 Snapdragon?

Hey sorry if this isn't the right place to ask this but I'm still new to the Xiaomi community, I bought a RN4 Global on August which came with MIUI 8. I was wondering if I should update to 9.5.10.0 ? I keep receiving the OTA update but right now my phone works perfectly and I've heard that MIUI 9 drains battery too fast and has other bugs as well, is this still true? Should I update to MIUI 9 (or even 10) ? Not really interested into Gcam and stuff btw.
revolutionOS miui10. it's the best of miui
I tried MIUI 10, didn't much like it. I've since downgraded to 9.5.10.0, quite happy with it.

So you recommend MIUI 9 over MIUI 8? You think it's a good idea to update?

The last version of MIUI 8 (8.5.8.0) was released in October 2017. I doubt whether it has a fix for BlueBorne (reported in mid September 2017) and for KRACK (reported in mid October 2017).
If you decide to use that version of MIUI, you better disable WiFi and Bluetooth.

Which Firmware to flash?

Next week I receive my Mi 8 Lite EU global, and today I downloaded some Firmware versions. But, which one is the most recent?
xiaomi.eu_multi_MI8LITE_9.1.10_v10-9
miui_MI8LiteGlobal_9.1.10_621ee9569d_8.1
miui_MI8LiteGlobal_V10.0.5.0.ODTMIFH_f780b61d3f_8.1
Thanks for the help!
Every three are recent. Your choise to install...
1. Xiaomi.eu is a custom rom, and as such, contains a fair few tweaks over the Official Global Stable
2. official MIUI rom but as beta version
3. official MIUI rom as stable version

Beta versions are out every friday, and don't mix marks for public beta and public stable. Stable version begin with 10 (because of MIUI 10), and beta version is now on 9 (first beta update this year).
Go to MIUI forum, and download section for Mi8 lite and there are latest stable and beta updates (new beta will be out next friday).

Are 1 and 2 Andoid Pie beta firmware?
Can I install the beta firmware without unlocking the bootloader? And is it possible to downgrade from the beta to the stable version?
I'm sorry for all the newbie questions, but I want to be sure before I do something.
There is no Pie beta firmware for global version for now... only 8.1 in any combination of these three roms...
Go to MIUI forum and there you will find answers for everything

Android 10 for Mi 8 Lite

Do you think Xiaomi updated the Mi 8 Lite to the recently released version of Android 10?
Will someone give development to customs roms of Android 10 for the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite?
Hold your jets pal. We dont even have a rock solid Pixel Experience on Pie.
My advice. Go test the latest builds, use the phone, report back and then maybe we will have Android 10.
Eventhough not officially announced, it's almost guaranteed at this point Xiaomi will update it to Android 10. Usually it's 2 years of version updates and 3 years of security updates. The estimated release date is somewhere between Q4/2019 (Mi 8) and Q1/2020 (Redmi Note 7).
That beeing said, don't hold your breath on it. Kernel sources usually get available at a much later date. Until we have high quality, rock stable custom Android 10 ROMs, most likely another year will pass.
I'm optimistic about this. @nysadev even made a guide on how to install Android 10 GSIs on platina, so i think soon we'll have (not stable) custom roms
there will be an android 10 miui for mix 2s. miui 11 will come first as android 9 later it will update to android 10.

Apparently no one has new issues about what will happen with Android 10 in the Mi 8 Lite, in the same way my cell phone was stolen and I'm not interested much because It makes no sense to remain interested in something that I no longer have :/

Mi Pad 4 is NOT getting MIUI 11

So, Xiaomi just released their plan of updating their Chinese devices on MIUI 11. You can find the plan on their homepage here (scroll to the bottom)
As you can clearly tell, Mi Pad 4 is not on the list (neither is Mi Pad 4 Plus), so unless they change their mind, we're stuck with what we already have.
Thats utterly incredible incompetence...
If it would stick with 8.1 Android ok... but at least MIUI 11
Will it be possible to develop unofficial MIUI 11 or Android 9 and 10 roms if they release sources?

Mi 8 Lite/Youth is getting MIUI11 in the first batch, it also uses Snapdragon 660.
As well as Redmi Note 7, Mi 6X,...
I am really courious what devs maybe can do with it.
We should waiting on Friday. I think we'll got MIUI 11.
Some times in the past Xiaomi didn't mention MI Pad 4 in the releases, I hope we will see MIUI 11 next Friday.

Pixel Experience Plus on Android 9 will keep getting monthly security updates and a few new features at least until the end of the year.
Meanwhile, our friend @rcstar6696 is working hard to get us some Android 10.

I agree with gaja22.
I'm seriusly thinking about to switch to Pixel Experience Rom for many months. I have 2 questions:
1. What are the difference between Pixel Experience and Pixel Experience Plus roms? I'd like to use a stock rom without developers personalizations.
2. Are OTA updates available or I have to install manually every new update?
Thanks in advance for tour support.

1. The difference between Pixel Experience and Pixel Experience Plus is that the Plus version has a few extra features, while maintaining overall the Pixel feel. Some of the features on the Plus include Navigation Button Invert Layout. integrated Screen and Sound Recorder, Status Bar Customization and many more.
Currently the 2 variants are maintained by 2 different developers.
2. OTA Updates are currently not available for neither Pixel Experience, nor for the Pixel Experience Plus.

I'll upload it only when I'll get Android 10 MIUI 11 to work and most/all bugs will be fixed. Official Pie vendor from Xiaomi would help a lot, but seems like Xiaomi doesn't care at all about their tablets.
Right now I have to stabilise Pie vendor, then I'll try different bases to see which one will work best, and after that I'll try to upgrade Pie vendor to Android 10. It's a ton of work but in the end we hopefully will have mostly working MIUI 11 Android 10.
I've been using Pie MIUI 11 for a day now and it's really amazing. But we all want Android 10
I'll post pics as soon as Android 10 MIUI 11 boots. (Might take a while as I just realised Q needs System as root)
