Lap docks+Pie - Samsung Galaxy S8 Accessories

So how are the lapdocks working with the Pie update nowadays?

I have been loving mine. I purchased it a little over a month ago, and the only real big issue I had was the audio output to the lapdock was sometimes non-existent, requiring me to restart the phone or lapdock or both just to get the sound to come from the lapdock. In the past couple weeks I no longer have that problem. As soon as I connect the phone audio works without issue. Maybe they pushed an update? It's definitely worth the money. I love this damn thing.

I currently own one of these monitors for my laptops
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07C5LPZMW/
and was thinking i could use it with my S8 with something like this
https://www.amazon.com/Updated-Version-Adapter-MacBook-ChromeBook/dp/B07R9LJV82/
Wondering if that could be used to power the Monitor off the USB 3 port while I have a keyboard plugged into the USB 2 port and the HDMI out to the monitor
As for a mouse I already own a Razer Atheris that works perfectly fine with the S8 in dex mode. I have a USB-c to hdmi adapter already but it doesn't allow for charging of the S8 unlike the one I linked to. Only real thing that the linked adapter is missing would be sd/ms slot/slots but I can work around that using the Ravpower RP-WD03 I already own and am thinking of replacing with a newer RP-WD009 which supports 5ghz unlike my current 03.
As for audio I have multiple options. I could use the speakers built into the monitor a pair of earbuds/headphones plugged into the phone or my Anker Soundcore 2 bluetooth speaker.

[Q] Adapters compatibility question (is it safe - will it work/charge?)

Hey XDA. I recently upgraded my phone to a Motorola Photon 4g.
My problem is this:
The phone has a usb input and micro hdmi input.
I bring my phone with me, almost everywhere; however, because I spent a lot of my time at the gym (24 hr fitness), my battery gets low and I cannot keep the phone on long enough (unless airplane mode) without it dying.
My gym has the Nike + Ipod hookups which are mainly dedicated for charging iphones and ipods and also used for video/audio support.
I was wondering, is there an adapter for a male iphone/ipod to hdmi or micro hdmi which I can use to charge my Photon at the gym (even if I cannot get audio/video? I think I have seen some male pin ipod/ipone pin adapters for regular hdmi, and I figured I could then get a regular hdmi to to micro hdmi adapater to see if that would be an adequate work-around?
I'd love to at the "very least" charge my phone at the gym, but my main concern is compatibility issues and/or if the use of multiple adapters may cause voltage or charge/related issues (e.g.: overheating? or future problems down the line?) A while back, I saw a project for a serial to usb DIY project that may work?: http://www.sparkfun.com/products/8245
Can anyone offer some advice? Last thing I want to do is brick my phone.
Even a bluetooth or wifi male ipod/iphone pinned adaper to my phone might be cool also? Any advice?
Thank you so much.

Hmm....I could be wrong but thought one would need an MHL port to charge via HDMI.
I can't offer you a solution to the ipod adapter issue. However, instead of spending money and time trying to modify something to work, might just get a portable battery charger. I have the Splash Intense one and it charges my phone fairly quickly and can do it about 3 times before it needs recharged. Plus, I can charge 2 devices at once if I want to. The other nice thing about this is it can be used anywhere and I even tether it to my phone and put both in my pocket. This way my phone is always on me and charges at the same time.
If this is something you are interested in: http://www.energizerpowerpacks.com/us/products/xp4001/ or just search Amazon for different units.
Sorry if this info doesn't help you.

MHL>HDMI setup works awesome

It tools some doing, but I finally got this working perfectly and figured it might help someone out.
I have a 7" DVD/NAV screen built into the dash of my truck. I have always been able to display my Slingbox, Netflix, ripped DVD movies etc from my phone to that screen using HDMI out from the phone to an HDMI SCALER as my truck stereo doesn't have HDMI in and this gives composite connections.
This worked great with my DroidX and Droid Charge, but my new Rezound does not have dedicated HDMI OUT (boo) so I needed an MHL>HDMI ADAPTOR.
the first adaptor I got from htcpedia (htc M490) was defective. When I plugged it into the phone (and the USB power cord) it showed the HD out in the task bar, but nothing showed on the screen and in 30 seconds the adaptor quit completely.
At that point, I ordered the HTC AC M500 12 pin adaptor and that works super. It has both HDMI out and analog audio. I plug the HDMI cord into the scaler for video and a headphone cord hooked into the aux in on my killer truck stereo for sound. The sound is better that way than coming through HDMI.
This setup works AMAZING. I can run anything except the NFL APP to the 7" screen with killer sound.
Don't knock the new port too much, the functionality is awesome.
Here is a link to what all it can do.
I'm not knocking it at all, at first I was because it seemed no matter what I tried I couldn't get it to work.
I had a brand new AC M490 MHL adaptor (the one other posters where recommending), with a brand new very high quality HDMI cable and could not get it to work at all which was extremely frustrating. This was annoying especially in light of the fact that my previous three phones worked perfectly in this setup (although the DroidX did not do HDMI mirroring which was really annoying at times)
Now, with the AC M500 MHL adaptor (which seems more compatible in every way) it works better than any previous setup I had and does it all with just one-plug at the phone end.
The 500 uses the exact same plugs for both the phone and the USB power cable as the original Rezound AC charging cable instead of the looser fitting mini USB like the DroidX. Either will work I guess, but one is a loose sloppy fit and the other is a nice snug fit like the OM charging cable.
The 500 also has both an HDMI out and an analog audio out as opposed to the 490 which only gives you the HDMI. I have found this to be an advantage soundwise. I noticed this with both my DroidX and later with my Droid Charge.
I noticed that running both the video and sound through the HDMI cable from the phone produces a noticeably weaker sound than running just the video through HDMI and then the audio out from the headphone jack (or the analog audio out on the adaptor in this case) This gives a much fuller sound with more bass etc. For some reason (I'm not sure why really)
This worked in all my previous setups and continues to hold true with the Rezound.

Interesting, actually cheaper on Amazon than on ebay!
HTC MHL AC M500 12 pin adapter
I recently got interested in this and bought one from Rakuten, but the audio doesn't work. I tried headset, earbuds, powered speakers. Is the audio port just a 3.5" plug? Maybe I got a bad one. Video works OK though.
I'm also curious that mine says, "9VDC 1.6A" on the back, but our phone chargers are 5V. Sure wouldn't want to burn up my phone. Anybody else's say 9V on the back of it? It doesn't say input or output or max input or anything, just that voltage designation.

Galaxy S8 HDMI not working

I bought the ADAM elements CASA H01 USB Type-C to HDMI Adapter Gold, I tried connecting HDMI to my S8, S8 says HDMI connected but the TV has no response. I am sure the TV works with HDMI as I tested my XBOX on it. Is there anyway to make it work? Or is my adapter broken?
you can try things like switching the tv off/on and the phone off/on whilst its connected. sometimes, not often, that will help
it sounds like hdmi handshake issues. basically a compatibility problem between the phone and the tv.
Thank you for the suggestion, I tried but still doesn't work. If it's a problem between the phone and tv, should I try the adapter on other tv?
I used Choetech USB C to HDMI 60HZ cable to my S8. Everything worked well. https://www.amazon.com/CHOETECH-Thunderbolt-Compatible-MacBook-ChromeBook/dp/B06XP9NV4G/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1495422430&sr=8-5&keywords=choetech+HDMI
I had some HDCP issues when I tried connecting my S8 to a capture device, but that was due to a poor quality cable.
Make sure your device can read the HDMI signal coming from the phone too. It appears to send 1080p or higher, so if your device only understands 720p (some smaller TVs are like this) it might not be able to see the signal from your phone.
I'm having same issue hubbies works mine won't same cord and tv???
Any idea what's going on I just factory reset my phone and still doesn't work
I just got an hdmi to USB c adapter today as well and I first connected it it did not recognize my phone either. The thing that seamed to do the trick was attaching the adapter to my phone first without the hdmi or power cord, then powercord then connecting the hdmi cord and all works well
still not repaired
4 repair invoices 3 months and still not repaired currently on hold with Samsung .... i'm not impressed as this feature was a huge decision for buying the S8+
i use baseus usb-c to hdmi cable - all work good (but no dex)
I have tried two different usb-c to HDMI cable adapters and can't get neither of them to work. Any ideas thanks
Broken and need help
I have a Ugreen Adapter for usb-c to HDMI cable, it worked very well
On several tvs, it WAS working here in Mexico on my ATVIO tv, then I did some phone cleanup and it STOPPED, is there a special application or setting that I've uninstalled????, I'm lost without YouTube on my tv LOL , cant find info anywhere and I swear I installed something on my phone to get it working like 7 months ago in Dallas LOL
biggest thing iv found with EVERY usb type C connectivity issue, POCKET LINT. its as simple as using a sewing needle or safety pin to CAREFULLY take the pocket lint out of the type C port on your device, there are 30 individual pins in there, and they ALL need to make a good connection to your adapter. brand does not matter, if it works with phone A phone B will figure it out (unless your phone simply doesnt support mhl adapters)
Same problem - Galaxy S8+ with Choetech USB-C to HDMI adapter. Worked a couple of months ago not working now. Wife's phone (exactly the same) work a with adapter and HDMI cable. Cleaned, powered on/off, reset phone, nothing works. So frustrating. Any ideas?
I was using my S8+ with my TV. After a couple updates ( prior to Pie) no longer worked. Please don't suggest turning things on / off or factory reset.... The cord is fine. My phone just now updated to Pie, I thought great, maybe it will work again..... nope... I've contacted Samsung, same BS runaround. Samsung - must be a compatibility issue, Me - it was working, Samsung - must be the cord, buy a new one, Me - already did, tried two different brands, Samsung - was one of them Samsung, Me - ......., Samsung - try factory reset, Me -....... by this time I know I'm screwed. There WAS something to do with an update. (And yes prior to the Pie update I did a factory re-set with no results). From the comments on this post appears no one has a solution....

Creative Sound Blaster

Has anyone tried to connect Creative Sound Blaster E5 or Sound Blaster X G5 portable sound cards? It can be a very interesting result.

https://en.creative.com/p/headphones-headsets/sound-blasterx-g5
Sound blaster x G5 DOES work on some android devices
Skip to the end to avoid my long pre-amble. Refer to it if you run into issues using the provided steps though. I picked up a sound blaster x G5 on sale at Best Buy for like seventy bucks and was super stoked to hook it up to my moto G4. No dice and after some research and trying it with a powered otg adapter I abandoned the endeavour. Fast forward 4 months and I finally get around to replacing the broken digitizer on an lg gpad f 8.0 v495. Not the entire LCD mind you, just the broken glass digitizer. First attempt doing this on any device ever and it was every bit as hair raising as you might think. From what I understand this is a pretty obscure tablet but it's got great wifi reception and a full size USB port on top independent of the micro USB charging port on the bottom. I can't be certain but I think this is the key to getting the sound blaster x G5 to act as an external USB dac because by all accounts I have come across this should not work. The v495 runs lollipop 5.0.1 and is rooted. Again not sure if rooting is a crucial part of getting this DAC to run as an external USB dac. It was a hassle getting this tablet rooted and supersu installed. I think it was kingroot I originally used to root it but kingroot is crap imho and I wanted supersu on there which I managed to do after quite a bit of hassle. Apparently doing what I did to get supersu can brick your v495 as not a lot has been done with this tablet in the community as from what I gather it is pretty obscure but I'd be happy to help anyone trying to get supersu up and running. Anyhow what you need to do is get a powered USB hub that takes 5v 2amp external power and plug that into the full size USB port. For me I tried three USB 2.0 hubs with external power between one and two amps of external power, no dice on those ones. Ive tried two different USB 3.0 hubs both with 2 amp power plugged into wall socket or power inverter in a car and both worked, even the Walmart onn brand one meant for use with PS4. So far power banks have not worked and I've tried several. It doesn't always start putting out sound right away and I still don't have it 100% figured out, sometimes it takes some unplugging and plugging back in to get audio output from the G5 but once it's going it doesn't cut out and sounds really, really good at least compared to the fiio k1/a1 combo I was using prior though that is still a good combination especially for the price. I use this in my car with a Belkin rockstar 5-way splitter one line going to fiio a1 headphone amp to the aux jack for car stereo and the other line going directly to a Polk audio home theater subwoofer meant for home theater use plugged into a second power inverter. Odd setup? Yup. Cost effective and great sound? Yup. 3.5mm splitters in my experience are notorious for having the timing be off for different outputs and this has been a huge hassle, I've got several and out of two Belkin rockstars only one with two ports of five sync up evenly. Picked up a foil e07k which has two 3.5mm outputs to solve this but it hasn't arrived yet. Possible both line outs on the G5 may solve this too. I am continuing trying to work out the kinks in this setup to have the G5 start outputting the sound without a bunch of u plugging nonsense and just put picked up a high quality USB 3.0 powered hub and will post any further results I get. Here are the STEPS: 1- plug in power supply to USB 3.0 hub. 2- plug in USB 3.0 hub to full size USB port on top of tablet. 3- plug in a flash drive to USB 3.0 hub 4- plug in the G5 to USB 3.0 hub. If it lights up and stay lit with no flashing of the red X you should be in business. If you get no sound output start unplugging and plugging things back in at some point you should get audio output from the G5. Having the tablet charging simultaneously seems to help but isn't necessarily required. Same with having a flash drive plugged into the hub. You can also try having the flash drive plugged into the full size port on the G5, android will be able to access it in either case. Headphone amp on line out(s) from G5 may also help. I'll be updating after further testing. Also, it's a good idea to program some presets on the G5 by using the software provided for windows and Mac, I ran into bizarre sounding music the first time I got this working on the tablet because the WE settings were all over the place when it came to music. Took some trial and error by is easy to correct.
Try using the ENTER key occasionally.

[solved-ish] Fan firmware screwed up HDMI output?

Hi!
Background:
I'm an esport producer and after some nightmare productions I'm really excited about the rog phone as it seams to be the only phone that have the features needed to make it into a good esports phone (e.g. Having 8-10 players competing in from of an audience), mainly: Hdmi output, ethernet capabilities and usb-c ports on the side..
Problem: After first successfully testing out Hdmi + ethernet connection I wanted to try if I could use the fan accessory and still be able to get the Hdmi signal from it.. When I connected the fan it told me to update the fan firmware so I did, but after that I'm not able to get Hdmi signal either with or without the fan accessory.. For instance, when I plug in my portable asus laptop monitor (power and signal from usb-c) the monitor starts to boot up and then dies.. Then tries again and dies and so on.. On my Samsung s8 it works fine.. So I'm guessing the firmware limits the power that the phone can output on the usb-c port.
Question, has anyone else experienced this issue? Is there a way to uninstall the fan firmware update (that obviously did not only affect the fan but the phone as well). The Hdmi adapter I used was something very similar to the professional dock but is actually an usb-c dock ment for laptops..
Tl:dr; hdmi doesn't work after "fan firmware update", plez halp.
Best regards

Qruxel E-sports Studio
Just a small update,
I was able to get it to work if I disconnect the power cable from the USB-C dongle and then connect it again.. and sometimes it also requires me to disconnect the HDMI + reconnecting that as well.. so I'm not sure if this actually was due to the fan firmware or just a result of a... weird bug(?) when it comes to the OTG features of the phone.. because connecting the dongle with both HDMI + power already plugged in does not work.
Anyway, just wanted you guys to know that it does work, just need to randomly connect/disconnect cables from the dongle first =)
Best regards,
Which USB-C to HDMI adapter were you using? I am looking for one that works with this device, aside from the fairly costly pro dock.
