Geekbench compute score - Xiaomi Mi 9 Guides, News, & Discussion

Greetings Mi9 users,
can someone please run the Geekbench Compute (RenderScript) benchmark and check if all SoC/GPU cores' frequencies ramp up and/or get utilized.
According to Geekbench's own database and other test-websites, (for whatever reason, I can't figure out) the Mi9 scores extremely low (about half compared to same spec'ed devices) in this particular benchmark scenario.

Yes, still an unsolved mystery - my SD730 powered Mi9T scores 7800.
Can you check frequencies using e.g. a kernel manager app?

Probably an issue with the benchmarking tool more than the phone I'd guess

What is the point pursuing High Quadrant score?

I am wondering what is the point of just pursuing higher Quadrant score?
Ok, you got a high quadrant score, does it mean your phone is running better?
Better has different aspects:
stability
speed
battery consumption
usability
so, come on guys, please stop pursuing higher score blindly!
I always see people posting how hight their quadrant score were, but not mentioning if their phone were working better with that high scores.

The point of going for a high quadrant score is speed & response, the higher quadrant is the higher the response and speed of the OS will be ,cause if you check in quadrant it checks CPU/RAM/3D/2D/I/O.
The 3D,2D and RAM doesnt change between OS's but CPU and I/O does,because I/O is the "Input / Output" that if it is higher,the OS will work alot smoother nevertheless because its clean and simple just how it was ment to be.
Also 2.1 and 2.2 does make a diference,i mean read about the diferences and they say the 2.2 can be between 100% to 500% faster,and if you check stock 2.1's 500 compared to stock 2.2's 1400,you get around 280% more speed.
Battery Consumption / Stability : It has nothing to do with Q's scores,thats more of the OS configuration and CPU Scaling.
Just try it out yourself : Use Normal SE 0.24 and do Q ,youll get around 500 or so,and you will notice the OS is very laggy even without a live wallpaper.
Now go for FreeX10 2.2 and do Q,youll get around 1400 and it will work awesomely fast even WITH a live wallpaper.
So in one brief description : The higher Q's score is,the better the device's Hardware interacts with its Software giving you smoother and faster usability of it,and stability + battery consumption is something totally diferent that if they dont work as they should,can be fixed by modifying the OS and its settings.
Edit : Thats why we are after high Q's scores rather than Linpack scores,Linpack only tests CPU speed by using the language defined in the OS (JIT etc)and even if it would be 120 would be useless if the I/O is rubbish.
So yeah,Q's score marks a diference.

[Q] Can't OC over 1400mhz ?

Hi... I have rooted my Samsung GS2 and payed for the OC app TEGRAK ..
But every time I go over 1400mhz the phone gets very unstable.
It even feezes at 1400 mhz when i use my navigon app...
I have tested it at 1500 mhz.. But reboots in a kind of save mode.,,,
At 1400mhz i runs Quadrant smooth with 4200 in score
And 56 MFLOPS in Linpack
But why is my phone so unstalbe?

Because it's supposed to run at 1.2Ghz.
If every SGS2 was able to run at 1.4Ghz without any issue I guess Samsung would have set them at 1.4Ghz by default (since battery life is obviously the least of their concerns ^^). When CPUs are produced, there's always variations in quality. what usually happens on x86 CPUs is that they're tested, sorted according to their max stable frequency, and then sold under different names and at different prices. For Exynos my guess is that any CPU that fails to pass the 1.2Ghz bar is just ditched, and they keep the others, some of which will work at 1.4Ghz, whereas some won't.
Now if you want to gain more stability, you can always try to increase the voltage, it usually gets more stable as voltage increases, but it also gets hotter (which can cause it to crash, or may even permanently damage the processor).

At 1.4ghz the phone will also get hotter and it decreases the lifetime if you run 24/7 at 1.4ghz
Ok.. I know about the x86 cpu's.. But didn't think it was the same in ARM cpu's-
But I see ALOT SGS2 that runs 1800mhz..
I guess that I just have one of the not so OC lilkes...
Overclocking won't always work for everyone at same levels.
I've also seen evidence to suggest that OCing significantly reduces the life of the SGS2. Nobnut had his phone vastly overheating even on stock speeds, and constantly rebooting... He overclocked. A number of others reported similar.
Overclocking is not simple and it is not that you just click on 1400/1500 MHz and you are Overclocked. A lot of things matter here. When we overclock in our Desktops then we have to test it very thoroughly, setting up the right VCore, Bus voltage, Multiplier, checking the stability and temperature etc. etc. Tegrak OC is a nice and simple software to use, but it can't be perfect when you can't set all the settings manually other that just higher the clock rate. Personally I'd always stay with stock speed as incorrect OC could harm my CPU and GPU.

If you know anything about overclocking then you'll understand that there are a variety of factors that affect the overclocking of a system. The overclock headroom you get from a processor varies, add to that the variables in component tolerance in the circuit board and you have a huge variety of factors that can limit the maximum frequency that you can overclock your system to.
I'll give you an example using my computers. Click on the images below:
Both processor overclock similarly on using the same components and that was the maximum I could get out of them. Now when I bought an EVGA X58 Classified motherboard and overclocked the Xeon W3520 I got it up to 4704 MHz with less vCore and less CPU VTT. All of this was done with aircooling.
My point is that not all systems will overclock the same even though they share the same model components.

[Q] Quadrant Benchmark Only Shows 8 CPUs

Hello XDA,
I was just wondering if anyone else have encountered the same issue (not sure if it is an issue).
When I run Quadrant Benchmark, there is only 8 CPU showing. I have googled and have seen a few videos shows 12 CPU during a Quadrant Benchmark.
I have attached screenshots of the information Quadrant Benchmark shows.
Also Quadrant seems to only show 1 Core in System Information.
Not sure that the device being a refurb would have anything to do with it. But I just want to make sure that I am getting the most out of my phone, and may be also possibly increases by benchmark scores to the 4000-5000 range as even with just 8 CPU I am averaging between 3000-4000 benchmark points.
Any clarification and assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I think you're quite confused . The "8 CPUs" are the number of tests it runs to test the CPU portion. Could be as simple as they previously used 12 tests but have now managed to test the same things with 8 tests. You phone doesn't have 8 CPUs
Quadrant often only displays 1 core because the other "sleeps" when not needed. Once the demand for more power is there it'll wake the second core.
If you want higher scores you can overclock, change governor, etc. but really benchmark scores are meaningless
Quadrant was updated several months ago and the number of CPU tests was reduced to 8 from 12. See this post (its a june 2010 post) http://www.aurorasoftworks.com/products

You have to wait for one of the mod's to close it. Maybe they'll close it, now that you've requested it. Or maybe it'll just stay open and get buried, which is fine too.

Hm? Are you still that concern with benchmarks these days?
anyways, i got 64K+ on ViperOs, a good score but in Quadrant i got uninspiring results. (SD, 3GB version)
59K is good enough as long its perform well as day to day driver without any hiccup.

Using official stock ROM. Not a fan of custom ROM not anymore ultimately we will come back to stock ROM so why. Not modified stock ROM like Xiaomi.eu
65k on AEX without any modifications, 4/64gb variant.
64-65k on redmi note 4x (sd) 3/32, rom RR

Well, if I was going to use benchmarking apps, I would rather use Geekbench4 or PC Mark2.0.

Whatever bench, I don't trust bench anymore...
The mtk for example score very high bench but real performance is so bad.
Those huawei kirin score very low bench score, but it plays games, especially psp and dolphin emulation way-way better than snapdragon and mtk that have better bench score.

MTk is scoring high because it's faster but for short amounts of time because they overheat, after 10-15minutes of heavy usage like gaming it's reducing CPU/GPU frequency to reduce heat (thermal throttling), and then the performance is much worse.
Thats why benchmarks are useless, they are too short to show the real performance. For example Snapdragon 625 can keep the same performance for hours during heavy gaming without thermal throttling, because it's super power & thermal efficient.

The secret is to look at single-core performance. Multi-core benchmarks are always very high on MTK because their chips usually have more cores than others. However, how many apps actually use all those cores? All that the extra cores do is to suck your battery.

Yeah I agree,
Beside that, benchmark just measure raw power, big raw power is useless without good optimization.
Snapdragon n Kirin have lower raw power but easily beat mtk because they're way more optimized.

Nowdays, mtk score very high at single core as well... But it still sucks...

Fix performance issue in emulator

Hi Guys , i need tips in fixing performance issue im lg v30 the cpu performance is throttling quite heavily in stock oreo that emulator performance is dropping and can not run games full speed while s8 with same snapdragom processor run the emulator full speed. Any tips ro improve this? I already get the tutorial to update gpu driver here to v313 The stock gpu driver in oreo is horribel using very old gpu driver
From the look of it the stock kernel max speed is 1900mhz and even that it move fasly up and down throttling heavily,any alternative to stock kernel or info about the stock kernel gorvenor?
I have t-mobile variant and it does run constantly at 1.9ghz on little cores, but BIG cores run varying from 2.1 to 2.4ghz. The only emulator i'm using right now are Retroarch64 and ppsspp it's all running well at 30fps. Some refurbished V30 doesn't have heat pipe inside for better cooling, it may throttle cpu during certain workloads AND actually not all SD835 work similar, some device might better or worse depends on thermal regulation, or android optimization.
lg got the worst score 164k antutu for me compared to normal 200k snapdragon 835 , this phone got high end cpu with midrange performance what a waste

How to know? I got the us998 version but dont know if its ref or not? The problem is on dolphin emulator, the ppsspp does run full speed

how to know what? you can see cpu stats on EX Kernel Manager, maybe kernelauditor as well. It's true that little cluster could only go as far as 1900 not more, but big cluster can go up to 2,45ghz as listed on 835's specs. I don't know, maybe bloated software could have some impact too. have you tried using custom rom? some say it'll improve much in gaming performance. it's worth a shot (few shots i guess, since there are many of them :laugh.
Wantrd to ubl but i need to backup things, will inform later on the thread. Thingkjng to sell the devices for poco or note 8 but i love the features on this devices so much !
