Snapdragon TWRP (G9700,G9730,G9750) [Waiting Room] discussion - Samsung Galaxy S10 Guides, News, & Discussion

I'd like to create this thread simply on the basis that TWRP discussion is bleeding a bit into the Root/Magisk thread.
This thread is specific to the Chinese/HK variants of the S10 such as G9700,G9730 and the G9750.
If anyone has any updates, official, non-official or test variants of TWRP feel free to post and discuss here.

Really need some development for these phones.

My point exactly.
This is a waiting room for TWRP. Not root.
Snapdragon variants already have a successful root via magisk.

I have, and have contributed.. for root.
As identified, ideally the TWRP discussion should be broken out from the magisk discussion.

Could be TWRP for S10e available soon?

Bump. G9700 user here, bored since one ui 2.0 out, was looking for some stuff like twrp and what not.
Fortunately there's HeX for theming, which is what I'm most interested in nowadays, so no need for substratum.

TWRP is available here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...opment-exynos/recovery-twrp-3-3-1-v3-t3980463

Great.

Magisk, edxposed, TWRP, everything is working great on g9750 and more.

It should be the same routine for the OPX as all of those devices then.
Just to be sure, you're doing it this way (step 5)?
Make sure that your bootloader is unlocked first, or it won't flash (step 2).
Also, make sure that when you use the command "fastboot flash recovery xxx.img" that "xxx.img" is identical to the name of the img file you have placed in your sdk tools folder.

Should be...key word. Guys I've tried it over and over again. All different ways to boot recovery after...different places downloading the file...different way installing (fastboot and flashify).
Only weird thing is that "fastboot oem device-info"
Says tampered is false
Unlocked is true
Does just unlocking bootloader usually trip the tampered flag?
So you're sure that you've enabled OEM unlocking in the developer options??

yes of course...Ive been through the process with the op2.
all drivers installed correctly, got rsa key, unlocked bootloader...one thing is that the confirmation bootloader unlocking screen was in chinese, but I chose the top option to confirm.
Same Issue
I'm having the exact same problem and would love to know a fix as well. My device is also unlocked by the tamper flag was not set off. I'm having the same problem of not being able to load TWRP onto the phone as well.
im guessing maybe because there isnt an official twrp for this phone.
There is only a custom and I know the internals are the same, but I think there are some kind of differences from phone to phone from region to region.

Hello,
I believe there is an official twrp. I did a search and found that you were already involved in that thread by @CafeKampuchia using the TWRP (onyx version) by @h2064
That was the initial recovery I had before I flash to the f2fs version by @eng.stk.

If you look here, there is no official TWRP for OPX yet, just for OPO & OP2.

Root

I mean is there any possible way to root this device? I tried flashing SuperSU, didn't work. Then I tried flashing the systemmode SuperSU, got stuck in the bootloader warning text. I also tried some pre rooted Roms from the forum.. and they just won't boot. What am I missing here..??

I didn't. I had no clue what it was. I just flash recovery n install the SuperSU file with it on other phones.
Now I'll try rooting it once the nougat arrives.

Nougat could introduce more issues (e.g. Xposed doesn't work with Nougat as of today... Magisk & SuperSU... who knows?) but in theory steps should be the same...
More: this is unknown to most (and I don't have a clear explanation for it... only some hypothesis...) but even TWRP could have issues...
On another phone I've found (only one time to be honest... ) that an updated firmware required an updated TWRP to have it working (older one simply doesn't booted anymore even if reflashed...)

I don't like OTAs at all... I'll prefer going with flashing full images by fastboot (if stock images) or TWRP (if custom ROMs or zip flashable version of stock images...).
They are safer and cleaner than OTAs...

@enetec
Are you able to restore all the changes you made to /system, to successfully install the next OTA-update?
Or you just reflash the whole stock image before the next ota?

Probably it could be possible to restore all as stock from my backups, but I will surely update (when I'll decide to...) using fastload or TWRP (depending of image formats...) as you said...

There's no root for any Snapdragon S9/+, EXCEPT for the Chinese/Latin American version. which is the G9600 and G9650.
That variant can be rooted with the proper "no_verity" and "rmm_bypass" zips.

That's a poorly written article.
The process and the files are all actually for the G9650 but they keep saying "G965U1", and it's "star2qlte", not "star2qltue".

Yes. I've been rooted ever since the update. I got an XT1941-4 but root is the same.
Either flash magisk patched boot through fastboot or boot twrp and flash magisk from there, but the last option would require you to format data first, which is why I prefer patched boot for rooting this device.
Ofc bootloader must be unlocked first.

Unlocking bootloader may result in complete deletion of Widevine keys. You may not get it back even if you have raw firmware. Keep this in mind.

From my understanding, it's mostly for streaming services such as Netflix. Netflix won't work in HD if don't have Widevine L1 certification.

TWRP is still WIP. The one being used for ROG Phone 3 should work, I just need to include the dtb(o) info for it to boot on the ZF7 series. I'll be working on that over the next several weeks, so if anyone else has the device and would like to help test, let me know.
I don't have the device so I'm completely reliant on feedback from testers.
