Current cleanest way to uninstall system apps (Root/Custom ROM) - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
What would be the 2019 cleanest way to uninstall a system app?
My case: Flashed xiaomi EU (clean) ROM for a Redmi and it didn't come with youtube preinstalled. I ran to install it but now I noticed it cannot be uninstalled normally, only remove system updates (this one is funny because I assume removing system updates leaves a base version but not sure what a base version of youtube would be for a ROM that didn't have it in the first place, I guess youtube base version would be related to playstore version installed).
So I've seen uninstall procedures via ADB, titaniumbackup (don't own it yet) and other playstore apps. But not sure what would be the most recommended method nowadays, on a rooted phone (magisk) if that makes any difference.
Thanks for your time

[Q] System apps keep coming back after removal

I have unlocked the bootloader of my new AT&T HTC One 64 GB, installed CWM and rooted.
When I started my phone, google play stated that there were updates to a lot of apps (like Chrome, Facebook, Twitter, Amazon kindle etc) which are all system apps. So I went ahead, updated them. Then as usual, I went to titanium backup and integrated the updates into rom/system. I cleaned Dalvik and cahce. When I restarted, google play said again that the same apps are out of date and wanted to re-update them. And sure enough when I checked versions on them, they were the old ones.
So decided to go the "make these system apps normal apps" e.g. move them out of the rom to data, update, move them back to system app directory. Same problem here, after a restart old versions in the rom showed up again.
Then I decided to un-install the apps. When I un-install them through titanium backup, after a restart they are back.
Like a bad nightmare.... Any ideas?

Same for me :
My ATT HTC One is unlocked and rooted already with CWM no-touch installed.
I installed ES File explorer as well as Titanium Backup Pro and gave both root privileges when they asked for them via Super SU
I can "Uninstall", via titanium backup, all the bloatware apps but when I reboot they come back.
Similarly, through ES File explorer I run the root explorer section and choose to uninstall system apps. I then successfully remove the bloatware, but it again comes back upon reboot.
Are there any other methods I can try or any successful bloatware removals for the One from anybody here? Is it a matter, as another thread about the Incredible suggested, a matter of the kernel not allowing writes to the /system while running? If so, how do I remove bloatware from Recovery?
Thanks!
any we need a kernel that allowed writing to the /system to stop this htc added some new code
It's because the kernel does not allow the /system partition to be modified. You need to flash a kernel that has the security disabled. I'm running the Renovate rom from the Intl One forums and that kernel has security disabled and works fine on the AT&T version

Remove pre-installed le eco apps

Hi all.
I just got my le max2 and I really enjoy it. I updated to the latest version to get the Ota and more included features, but I really want to find a way to remove all of the pre-installed apps from the le eco. I don't speak Chinese. Thus, I don't need them at all.
Is there a way to remove them without reflashing to a different rom?
Thank you
If you want to keep the OTA, then you can't remove the unwanted apps because you need root to do so. Rooting will break the OTA.
If updating manually is not an issue for you, follow the steps to install TWRP TeaMSpaiN 3.0.2 for 5.8 kernel, flash SuperSU, install any root file manager and delete the apps, or use Titanium Backup to do the same.
I am on stock 016s with apps deleted, works fine and I like EUI.

[NO Root] Remove bloatwares from Lenovo A6000/plus without root!!

Point of this post(boring stuff )
In your stock ROMs you are pretty much stuck with the preloaded craps unless you root your device. Now you might not want to root your device for various reasons. For instance, almost all banking apps do not work on rooted devices. A way to tackle this is to use systemless root access provider like magisk. But unfortunately magisk requires Android 5.0+. So we need some other ways for our devices running Android 4.4.4 right? Well, fortunately there is a very simple method for debloating any stock ROM(I personally tested this method on Lenovo A6000 PLus but this should work on any ROM out there).
Note: You need a custom recovery for this to work, which can cause serious harm to your device if you do things incorrectly. You are also tweaking your device's system partition, so you might void your warranty. If anything happens to your device, its your responsibility.
Let's get started
Step 1: Download the "pico" gapps package from opengapps.org. For Lenovo A6000/Plus running stock kitkat, select arm,4.4,pico.
Step 2: Open twrp recovery.
Step 3: Install the pico gapps package that you just downloaded.
Step 4: Reboot your device. Now you will find that most of the google apps have a green icon with android logo(if you are using lenovo launcher). Just remove those apps.
Done
So, Which apps are removed?
Pretty much every apps are removed except Google Play Services, Play Store, Gboard and Play Newsstand. You can disable Newsstand and the security app(which does nothing but eat up space and resources) if you like.

Dude, 1st thing, you said this method needs a custom recovery which means you have to root the device at first or lest consider you just boot twrp using fastboot
And flashing gapps will remove the obselet gapps, and it won't remove the other oem bloatware present so actually this can't br called "Debloating"
Debloating doesn't mean removing gapps, debloating is the removal of useless or apps which can be downloaded from play store, included in the ROMs

Yes you have to use fastboot method but you don't need root access for that and as for the "bloatware" you are referring to, it's any unnecessary app that comes pre-installed with a device which you can't uninstall. Keeping aside the gapps there are only 2-3 apps that fall into that category, which you can just disable as I mentioned. In a device with 8gb or 16gb internal storage every bit of free storage counts. At least it's better than being stuck with all the apps in the first place.

Don't know how can this happen. I'm afraid but maybe you'll have to reinstall this rom.
@avinashvenu2
you may consider to uninstall the Phone PE app by means of ADB.

Question What are current options for debloating or flashing the newest Sony phones?

So when it comes to newer sony phones for development, patches, roms and debloating.
Are there previous debloating scripts we can use on the newer phones? It looks like we already have a process for root access. but not sure what i apps i should remove or backup.
Not to mention if i flash with a totally new rom i will probably want some of the Sony apps installed which means backing up the sony apps before we flash a rom to it right?
@thud1, I've successfully run the attached script using adb. I'm on the US variant, so can't root, and also removed a few extras from other non-US carriers like Orange. I'd recommend reading through it yourself and changing it (anything without a "::" at the start of the line is being removed), since I removed as much as I possibly could (including almost all Google apps). You can use it as a starting point for which apps you can systemlessly uninstall with Magisk though. After uninstalling all of those, everything still seems to be working for me, and I based it on what I uninstalled with Magisk on my 1 III, so it should also work on a rooted device.
I don't think there are any custom ROMs out yet, but even if there are, flashing will be limited to what can be done through fastboot or Magisk, since we don't have TWRP. If you wanted to install Sony apps on a non-Sony ROM, you'd likely need to use a Magisk module to add in the Sony framework to that ROM or the apps wouldn't work (not even sure if something like Camera Pro would work on an entirely non-Sony ROM like LineageOS).
EDIT: Make sure you have a browser and keyboard downloaded, else you will have to reinstall GBoard and Chrome.

Awesome thank you for this, does it need to be re-applied every OTA update?

I applied your script and everything looks super clean now. However. i am experiencing an issue with the settings application. it keeps crashing.
I have already applied your script if i want to revert anything. How would i go about doing that?

It should not, no. The only exception is if new apps are added by an OTA that you would want to remove.

To revert, running the below command should work:
adb shell cmd package install-existing --user 0 <package_name>
Example:
adb shell cmd package install-existing --user 0 com.google.android.youtube
If you want to undo everything, just do a find and replace of "adb shell pm uninstall -k" with "adb shell cmd package install-existing" in the script.

Thanks i reverted all the changes and rebooted the phone. The main reason for doing this other than having a few oddities with some of my apps.
Was that everyone is saying android 13 is pushing. so reverted all the changes to see if would push me to android 13 and then i could reapply the debloating script.
So far going into system software update. it keeps saying android 12. up to date. and doesn't seem to be pushing 13 yet.
