is the oppo video really this bad? - OPPO Reno 10x Zoom Questions & Answers

I just watched Joshua Vergara real world testing of the 0
10x zoom and wow, disappointing. The video quality... . Distortion, poor stabilisation and smooths his girlfriend's skin so much it looks like a camera from a few years ago. I understand its the Chinese model with non final software but has it improved?
For anyone who's curious

That was a pre-release firmware from more than a month ago. Check the detailed camera review on GSMArena. Video is a strong suite of the Reno 10x.

I saw the review and it looked much better. However, having looked at other video samples on YouTube, even those released in the last week show often poor quality again. Here's a few examples
And here at about 5.20 you can see how poorly resolved the path and bushes are despite good light
In this clip, quality looks a lot better, similar to gsm
Plus I can't find it now but I saw a 240fps clip where the quality looked poor (I'll keep looking)

[Q] mms quality and camera quality

Hey,
Just got my atrix today after huge fiasco with att stores. Anyway, so far i love it this thing is blazing fast compared to my captivate and the gps works =).
My one gripe is the camera quality, everything looks washed out almost like there is a film on the camera lense that can't be removed. The same thing applies to when i recieve an mms picture. The quality looks so bad that it's hard to even tell what it is sometimes
Anyone have any workarounds or tips on taking photos?
Yeah, noticed the same thing, especially coming from an iPhone 4, the photo AND video quality on the Atrix look washed out and grainy. Hopefully it would be a software fix.
The only solution so far is just to take photos in the 5MP resolution. the 3MP and Widescreen (which is like 3.?) are horrible.
was just fixing to post how horrible the camera and video quality is compared to the captivate! ughhh... i hope it is fixable via a software tweak this is nasty. like dirty sand

ahh, dirty sand is exactly how i would describe it
I only take pictures at the 5mp quality and it seems to be fine? : shrug :
can someone post a few test shots?

Correct, I love the phone but MMS coming from iphone 4 purely suck!
Also coming from iPhone 4, setting the camera to 5mp does seem to help some for sure though.

aye it looks fine when not comparing it to anything. But hands down the ip4 camera is far superior and even my captivate camera looks better, meanwhile they're all 5mp

Hang on the camera looks poor....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30COabYrr64
The colours are too saturated, the camera wobbles and skips just as much and the mic sounds poor compared.
Surely a software issue?
Have no clue what cnet is trying to do there but the actual quality is much better.
Sound recording is really impressive and the OIS is working well too as one can see in the following videos from xsever.

I want to see a video of him walking around, I'm seeing that weird jelly effect still in those though and he is only sitting or standing still and moving the camera side to side. The colours still look so fake........
Not the smooth video they showed in the press confs.
I will be shooting another video today with White Balance set to Daylight and as I walk.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=GBupRpL_3Io
Even they say the iPhone 5 cam is better.
Maybe some software related issues? Like allways when new phone comes out...
http://reviews.cnet.com/nokia-lumia-920/
Yeh cnet confirm the camera being overhyped in the review.
Good in low light, not as good in day time.
I really don't trust cnet. I seen the video and it looks like they were favoring the iphone 5. They went to 4 solo shots of the iphone 5 while they only had 2 for the lumia. I'll just have to wait on xserver to test it because his trying his best to provide everyone with a fair review.
Conspiracy: apple paying cnet

Here are direct photo comparisons between different phones and the Lumia 920. The is part of a CNET review for the US version in their US office, which is more favorable of the camera.

And more direct comparison picks from Slashgear

Frankly I can't decide whether this camera is good or bad based on these pictures. It wins some, but not by much. It can lose pretty bad though, especially with how unsharp and vague a lot of images look. It's not the winner Nokia was touting. Indoor shots are better in some instances, worse in others. Night shots are "brighter" but not necessarily better. I can edit the photos of a competing phone by turning up the gamma and get close to the same thing that Nokia produces. The smooth video also isn't as great as I once thought. It makes me nauseous, and details are still very lacking even if there isn't any major instances of blur.
The reviews on the phone are contradicting. The verge review shows great pictures, much better than cnet's or slashgears and their unit is not even on final software. The camera performance just doesn't seem consistant.
Well I'll judge myself when I get mine next week.
It seems to me Nokia focused too much on low light photos because the day time photos lack detail.
I added many more videos with different settings here: http://forums.wpcentral.com/showthread.php?t=200158
A Nokia French community member has confirmed on Twitter that there will be an camera update soon.
Actually, I'm very happy with my phone anyway

LG G2 video and photo samples with originals

I've found some LG G2 video and photo samples with the originals that you can download. Photo quality seems really good but that 60 fps sample seems to run too fast? Or is it my PC??
Images here: http://optimusforums.com/threads/lg-g2-photo-samples.8836/
Video samples here: http://optimusforums.com/threads/lg-g2-video-sample.8837/
Honestly the photos and videos look and sound pretty terrible. I've seen some sample pics from Phonearena, pics from a couple korean sites, and video samples from other testers besides these. The photos are grainy, have drab colors, blur a lot, and seem to be constantly overexposed and over-contrasty losing all fine detail where all grays turn black and all bright shades turn white. The videos have LG's trademark OCD autofocus that keeps on bouncing and bouncing even on a perfectly still scene and all the image problems the photos suffer. The audio capture is grating and reminds me of the horrible audio capture of the GS3 and older HTC phones. I'd rank the camera chops below even last gen flagships.
Other than the amazing screen and thin bezels, the rest of the LG G2 is shaping up to be another copycat follow everyone else half effort. Poorly implemented OIS that barely exists (worse than even the HTC One), the same unimpressive 13MP camera from last year's Optimus G that many websites said was worse than the 8MP version, the same cheap plastic build but in this case you can't even remove the battery or expand storage space, and little in the way of innovation besides ho hum spec bumps.
I am mostly disappointed in the camera, as this is the year of the Lumia 1020's 41MP camera, Galaxy S4 Zoom's 10x zoom and large sensor, Xperia Z1 with 1/2.3" sensor, Oppo N1 which I am very siked for coming next month, a big camera bump for the iPhone 5S, a 13MP OIS camera from Samsung on the Note 3 which will surely be better than this, Motorola's ClearPixel, and HTC's Ultrapixel. Even though everyone is trying to compete with better camera's, LG just stuck with last year's lackluster faux 13MP one and tacked on a barely there OIS.
Cue ignorant or willfully in denial comments about not final firmware and prototype hardware and yada yada yada. I've been listening to the same excuses for years for dozens and dozens of phones from Nokia and HTC and Samsung and LG and whoever. You get what you see. That's that. The Lumia 920 isn't going to get any sharper looking even after a year of updates. The Xperia Z noise and terrible JPEG algorithm isn't going anywherer. The grain in that smaller Lumia 1020 sensor will be there forever. The cartoony smeared and overprocessed HTC pictures will stay that way. And LG's photos will always look like they were recorded on a VHS tape and played back on an old tube TV. Prototypes, pre-launch hardware, post-launch, hardware made a year later with a year worth of updates, same thing.
Photos when you zoom in to them look over sharpened and compressed. I agree that LG could have done better there with the camera. 920 OIS seems to be one of the best where the G2 doesn't seem that effective. Much like the HTC OIS. But if you look around on the youtube videos some 1020 and 920 videos are shaky and other less. I wonder why that is? Some people have steady hands where others don't?
Edit: New video up that shows the OIS does work now.

Sigh not impressed either. I think katamari is right.
Sux cuz my s3 screen is broken and waiting for a worthy update. S4 is not an option, i hate pentile amoled and Samsung didn't learn from the s3. Reason enough for me to abandon Samsung.
HTC has ridiculous built in social shiat, not an option either.
I want a full hd full sub pixels display below 5inch. G2 was an exception cuz of the thin bezel. And to all the brands that bring out new high end phones without full hd display... well, see you next year maybe.

idk, i love my GS4 camera and think it easily kills my DNA, and the one in general, and the G2 looks to have pretty much the same quality as the GS4...so i'm excited.

I've owned the S4 and I would say they are indeed about the same quality now. Video is only better because it shakes around less than the S4 due to the OIS. Its somewhere between the HTC one and 920 OIS. In the middle of the two in terms of OIS preformance.
Sound wise the LG G2 picks up too many high frequencies noises at times.
The sony Z1 we don't even know about that camera yet. So how can we comment on it.

Sample Photos - GS3 Comparison
I am the recent owner of an LG G2 and I was comparing the photo quality to my old GS3. I only did a few situations, but I thought I should share the results if anyone else is interested. GS3 photos taken @ 8MP and G2 photos @ 13MP.
The GS3 is definitely better at focussing on close objects.
I have some HDR and non-HDR versions there (it's easy to tell them apart). The GS3 HDR seems to be more aggressive, which can often result in a significant loss of contrast.
I also tested the OIS on the G2 by holding the phone with a shaky hand and taking burst shot photos, and it didn't seem to be very effective.
My photos (downsized to 1080p) are here:
https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0Bwrp4uluZCpNT19ObXhfZ1pwc2M&usp=sharing
The G2 takes very appealing photos IMO, and it's a step up from my GS3. They could be better, but I still think it's great for a phone.

Is the camera trash?

Been watching YouTube videos on this device since it was first announced. Looks like a fantastic device, except for the camera. The pictures taken by the 8X and posted on YouTube have been some of the worst detailed and softest/lifeless pictures I have seen from a phone is a LONG TIME. Is it REALLY that bad? It would seem that they had to skimp on something for $250ish and it looks like the cameras got hit the hardest. Oh, one other thing... I spent some time on Amazon India reading through like 800 reviews of the 8X there, and the majority of them listed the cameras as the weakest aspect of the Honor 8X. I'm in the USA waiting for the 8X to be released here, but I may need to give this one a pass. Thoughts?
Not trash but Depends on your taste
Honor 8x have 20+2 mp camera (decent)
Image quality from them have lots of details so don't worry about this
This camera boost the colours specially (red, blue, green)
Which produces artificial like image if you compare from other device from same price range(kinda pre filtered for insta and fb) so good for some bad for some
Honor will fix camera issue bya an ota so don't worry about that
camera is Good for this price range
I think the camera is good in good light. In low light it struggles a bit. Also helps to turn off AI which tends to saturate photos and make them look unreal.
Well, from my experience camera is fine. Especially for this price range. Some websites are maybe criticizing it too much, but for a phone in this price range, it is actually pretty good.
I have switched from P9 lite (well, I still use it as my work phone, but that's beside the point, 8x is my daily driver now) and it definitely feels like an upgrade, camera-wise. Images are sharp, colors are ok, amount of detail is higher compared to p9 lite. Dynamic range is fine - again, for this price point, but it definitely feels better than on p9 lite. HDR works wonders, night mode is pretty darn awesome. If you are into fake bokeh, object detection is actually decent. And pictures are not noisy during the day, indoors they tend to get a bit noisy, but it is nothing deal-breaking for me, and as I mentioned, if You have some patience for night mode, it really makes very good pictures.
In my opinion, you should keep AI off and You will get much better pictures.
Anyway, @xphyle1971 - if You want me to send You some samples, I'd be glad to - just let me know if You want them mailed or attached somewhere.
Also, this is a bit besides the topic, but 8x should get android pie in q1 2019, so that might be something to consider when getting it.
Oh, and battery life is awesome.
Camera is good can get some fantastic results with right conditions and light Gcam as well works well with nice picture results

Huawei P30 Pro camera samples

Think there needs to be a thread for photos taken on the P30 Pro, given how the key feature of this phone is the camera(s).
I've also created a Google Photos gallery that people can share photos on (and video). It's non-commercial, and anyone that posts a photo obviously retains their own copyright.
https://photos.app.goo.gl/crLDcUSr9mxgJCSV8
So far the gallery has some examples of the various zoom levels (and wide angle), low-light and some very impressive shots of the sun. I am really loving the flexibility of the camera in just about all conditions.
I can't wait to see photos from others.
camera only good at zoom is a camera half good, in a perfect world it would do miracles with video aswell if it used Snapdragon 855
Any chance someone can put some super-slow-mo videos up please?
Id like to see someone post a sample too.
I saw a video on YouTube and slowMo looked absolutely horrible. Also not as slow as the phone it was compared to. Ive watched so many videos on the p30 that I doubt I could find the video again.

This 960fps slow motion is fame with Huawei
Extremely bad quality besides s10 plus
I saw the video too
---------- Post added at 10:31 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:24 PM ----------
I dont like the over sharpness at night with night mode
Pixel xl 3 night sight is way better in term of normal details and Colours
Huawei needs to work hard to fix image processing with night mode and faces details
Sorry, but these photos do nothing for me in terms of showing what the phone is capable of. Many (most?) of the photos are shaky or way too soft even at ISO50. I do like how the colors look tho, especially in the night photos.
Here's a new video that was posted comparing the slow Mo
https://youtu.be/qffBzSC7DmY
Hopefully the p30 improves!
Here's a few samples of mine, i had the P30 Pro since launch day and it's a camera champ. But i don't recommend you go beyond the 5x optical focal length or it won't be pretty. The noise reduction in jpeg's is a bit too strong for my taste, i hope Huawei tones it down. However the raw files are very nice to work with.
1. Flower is shot in raw at iso 50 indoors.
2. Church shot using 16mm ultrawide angle.
3, 5x at the church clock, shot raw.
4. 16mm indoors at chuch.
5. Building shot at 5x in raw.
6. Hotel interior at 16mm ultrawide angle, shot in jpeg.
7. Test of ToF sensor and fake bokeh at water fountain.
8. 5x at outdoor hotel pool 50 meters above ground. Shot from below.

Thanks for sharing. That is a shame, but still better than the shockingly bad P20 Pro that wasn't actually 960fps...
I feel this will be a great camera replacement phone for my Mate 20 Pro of course until the Mate 30 Pro comes out... I wonder if Huawei will completely ditch 3D face and notch... will be interesting. The Mate 20 Pro is a great phone... brought me back from the Apple Darkside. I can't see Apple being able to keep up with Samsung and Huawei (even Xiaomi for that matter) in the top camera phone space, anymore.... IMO. They have just lost so much ground to make it all up with their incremental updates.... I think android has brought me back with better technology, we'll see if it keeps me.
Courtyard
First photo taken in our condominium courtyard.
Sorry to be the bad guy, but there are no real details. It suffers from the well known Huawei processing. This phone is good for the Instagram generation, but it takes bad photos. Not true to life.
Took delivery of mine today. Not impressed at all - the usual overprocessed, smeary Huawei ****e that's probably great for those who like to mess about with DNG and Lightroom but as an auto shooter is behind the pack for normal photos VS pretty much all the other flagships.
Hopefully the promised software update with camera improvements will reach my device soon and blow me away. Already kind of pissed that my dual SIM Amazon device is actually single SIM but to be behind on a supposedly critical update already is not helping my feelings towards this phone.
Any video samples? For me video is more important than photos and it seems the Kirin CPU can not handle video with high enough bitrate, I see occasional stutter too. One reviewer mentioned that 4K video did appear like it was actually 1440p upscaled. One other review did check video bitrate and framerate and both did appear low (I think it was 27Mbps and 28fps for a 4K video).
I wonder if these things could be tweaked by modifying camera app, to try increase bitrate.
EDIT: The video review showing P30 Pro video bitrate, framerate and panning stutter: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4LaeCzEMEgw
So many reviews out there seem to be sponsored, looking for real-life video examples.

I have the opposite experience. Samples found online wasn't that impressive, but I quite like how the photos I take (in daylight so far) look., even when zoomed in. It's definitely not as sharp as say, Pixel 3XL, but very good.
I agree. The dog looks great. I'm also using a Galaxy S10+ and though I love the phone, you can barely take a pic of an animal because it smudges and smooths everything so badly. My P30 will be here soon and I'm encouraged by those pics.

My advice is to not get too excited. The examples given are in searing sunlight and even then there's some smearing and oversharpening. In the case of the dog, it's just sat still - not a challenging scenario for any phone.
Apparently some people in the UK have had the new update so I'm hoping to get it over the weekend.
I currently also have an S9 and an iPhone XR and the photos from both of those devices are better so far (with the exception of low light shots).

I want to get the 124 update before I do much more testing but here for example is a crop of some daffodils in the sunlight from the XR and P30 Pro (no AI mode).
I wish I had the .124 update before family day at the zoo but still impressed with these 10x zoom. My S10 could definitely not do this. Keep in mind that lion was through streaky zoo glass.
