[SOLVED] Mobile data exclamation mark - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
I wanted to make a post about this issue as I spend some time searching the Internet for a solution.
My girlfriend had this problem on her OnePlus 6T but I understood later it wasn't related to the phone.
What happened was the internet connection didn't work except for some apps like WhatsApp and Messenger, and there was an exclamation mark next to the mobile data icon.
This indicates that the internet server cannot be reached, and this issue can have many causes from what I saw on the forums.
So the aim here is to list all the possible causes and the associated solutions, instead of posting on a 2 year old thread.
#1 You have used all your data
This was actually her problem, and I'm glad I saw a guy asking this question on a forum because it is so obvious we don't think about it.
And I suspect this is the most common issue, with some people saying the problem disappeared a few days later. So in this case you know what to do!
#2 OTA update issue
Apparently an update can reset the APN (access point name) settings and make the phone connect to a server that is not configured to provide internet
1. First go to settings
2. Mobile Network Settings
3. Access Point Names
4. Open the three dots on the right hand corner
5. Reset to default
6. Reboot
If it still doesn't work make sure your 'APN Type' field contains at least "default, supl".
Next option is to enter manually the APN settings, for that:
1. Find a webpage from your carrier explaining which settings to enter to configure the APN
2. Go to Mobile Network Settings/APN
3. Click on the "+" and enter the settings
#3 Unknown issue
Here are some other possible solutions to the problem:
Change preferred network
1. Go to Network settings
2. Mobile network
3. Change the preferred network to 3G
4. Wait until the exclamation point disappears, now it should work on the 3G network
5. Switch back to 4G
These methods have not provided results from what I've seen, but if none of the above solution worked you may want to try!
Clear the GPlay services cache
1. Go to settings
2. Applications
3. Google play services
4. Memory usage
5. Clear cache
Clearing Cache
1. Power down the phone.
2. Wait until the device is completely off.
3. Then press and hold the Power and Volume Down buttons at the same time.
4. Continue holding these two buttons during the initial OnePlus splash screen.
5. When the OnePlus logo goes away, you can let go of these two buttons.
6. And then wait until the phone boots into Recovery Mode.
7. If you have a password set, you will have to enter the pin to decrypt(basically unlock access to storage) here.
8. Tap on the language of your choice.
9. Tap on the Wipe Data and Cache option.
10. Tap on the Wipe Cache option.
11. Tap the Yes option when asked to confirm.
12. Wait for the phone to clear the cache partition.
13. Then tap on the Reboot option to restart the phone.

[Q] Google Sevices Framework Force-Closing

OK, first my apologies if this has been precisely addressed on a different thread. I promise I have searched thoroughly and tried some of the advice found on a related thread (for the Nexus One):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=792691
I am following these steps from that thread:
----------------------------------------------
0. Make sure Sync is off, leave it off for some time!
1. Go into settings
2. Select Applications
3. Select Manage Applications
4. (If you are on 2.2) Select the All tab
5. Scroll down until you find Contacts Storage (select it).
6. Wipe data+clear cache(If available)
7. Hit back
8. Scroll down until you find Google Services Framework (select it)
9. Wipe data+clear cache (if available)
10. Reboot and enjoy
----------------------------------------------
But I am basically stuck at step 0! How do I disable sync in the G-tab? I go to settings, applications, system applications, account and sync settings, but there is no option to disable sync. Someone suggested I disable the Wi-Fi to prevent syncing and then execute the remaining steps. I have tried this and it does not fix the problem. By the way, I am running VEGAn 5.1.1.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated. This is driving me nuts!
Thank you in advance.

I would just boot into recovery and do a data wipe. Just use titanium backup to snag backups of your apps and stuff and do that. It will fix the error and any others you have been having most likely. It's the easy way out basically.

Thanks. Is there a quick guide on how to do this?
umm, if you are running a 1.2 based kernal all you have to do is turn tablet off completely and then click and hold vol+ and power until you see a recovery message appear. Then it will bring up the recovery menu. There you can use the vol +/- symbol to navigate and the button above back to select. Just select user data wipe. If you are running a 1.1 based mod you will have to flash Clockwork Mod and then enter that recovery the same way. The vol +/- buttons would navigate and home button is select. Its pretty easy.

[Q] Logsprovider, Twlauncher and others error looping: please how can I save data?

Hello, I'm Italian so my English is not very good.
Please I would like to ask you if somebody can help me with this problem.
I have a GT-i9100 with Andorid 2.3.3. The device is not rooted and I kept the original software from the day i bought the phone.
When I turn on my phone I have this error message looping:
"The application LogsProvider (com.sec.android.provider.LogsProvider process)has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again"
And, if I stay on the home screen, also:
"The application TwLauncher (com.sec.android.app.twlauncher process)has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again"
And occasionally I also get some others Force Closure, as:
Android process.media
Task Provider (process com. Android.providers)
Message (process com.android.mms)
IM (com.sec.android.im process)
AP Mobile (com.sec.android.widgetapp.apnews process)
Social Hub (com.seven.Z7 process)
Somebody told me that if I do a factory reset I'll probably solve the problem.
But this is what I am writing: since I am disable, sometimes I don't write by hand and I record voice recordings (with the standard voice recorder of the phone). I have some very important data on the phone and since they were recent I have no backup.
There are mainly voice recording (took with the standard recorder app) and some notes I took with an app called Note Everything that I would not like to lose.
Is there a way of saving this data?
UPDATE: Here a video of the problem:
Some additional information:
- the phone also display the icon of "memory almost full". So I can't install from the computer version of google play another launcher, because it would probably not install for no memory
- the phone also crashes after few minutes (sometimes soon, sometimes later)
- when I turn on again the phone, it is allways on the same home screen (I have 8 desktop home screen, it is always on the fifth)
- I have no SD card
- I could go on settings --> applications --> manage applications --> LogsProvider --> Clear data. The error of "LogsProvider" stops appearing, but if the phone crashes next time it returns, and if the phone does not chrash, if I go on home screen I still have all the others errors
- I could go on settings --> applications --> manage applications --> and I deleted some apps. When I turn off and on again the phone, the apps looks again there
- If i connect the phone with the computer with usb, Kies keeps telling "connecting"
- If I put the phone in Debug Mode, or in USB Mode, in My Computer I can see for some seconds the icon of the mass storage device (for example "K:"), but If I try to open it on my computer, I have an error like "the device is not ready", or the icon disappear
Thank you very very much in advance.
There are many apps to backup your data, try the below app to backup your apps data, you can later restore it after a factory reset.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.infolife.appbackup&feature=search_result
and regarding the voice recording. IF you simply record the voice and play it via any music explorer, then it would be saved in your internal sd and it will be safe after a factory reset.
+1 on bala.....well i had this prblm on my sgs1 and i dint do a backup but simply factory reset an for few weeks the phone was fine but again it started ..but then i flashd the same rom using odin an tht has a fix uptill now....cheerz
Thank bala_gamer and thanks rocky23, but unfortunately it looks like I can't install this app nor neither other app because of two reasons:
1) I can't access to the Google Play Store, because I don't have a desktop shortuit, and if I try to go passing through the apps page Twlauncher crashes and returns to the desktop
2) As I told in the post, phone says "memory almost full" so I can't install other apps
Any other ways of saving this data?
PS: As for the voice recording, good to know that with a factory reset they will probably be safe, thanks!
Since you're not rooted, I can't see any way you can fix this without losing your data.
My daughter is also limited to voice-only stuff, I rooted my SGS1 immediately before I gave it to her and back it up for her daily - not much use to you I know, but rooting/backups are a must, IMO.
She also uses Note Everything - as do I - and it always has survived a factory reset/full wipe for us, data's stored on the sd card, not in the system partition.
You've given all the info anyone could want, hope someone with more knowledge than me can think of a solution.
Good luck - I'll try and think more myself
Edit - not backed up via Google sync by any chance? If not, can you access it via Settings, or does TW crash on you every time?
Thanks also to you B3311.
I've checked with my fried who has the same phone and in fact all the voice recordings are stored in sdcard/audio. I've also found the directory of Note Everything inside sdcard. So, if this files will be kept, most of data that I care will be safe.
I have again some last few question, I give them a number so the post looks more clear.
1) As for Google sync, I have it enabled. On my computer I can see my calendar and my contacts, is there any other thing that Google sync backups?
2) So, apparently the only thing that I can now do is to do a "factory reset".
It is OK to go put the phone in Recovery Mode (Volume Up + Home + Power buttons ) and than select "factory reset"? Is the "factory reset" the same option that "wipe user data", or it is different?
As you can se It is the very first time I do a factory reset (and also that I enter in recovery mode), and I am a little bit worried that something goes wrong.
3) If all the data that is on /sdcard will be kept, so what kind of data I will lose? I suppose Contacts (1) , SMS (2), Calendar data (3), Apps (4) and Phone options (5) will be deleted, but is there any other type data that will be deleted?
Thank you everybody for your patience and your support dealing with this problem!!
please last question
Last question: in this tutorial (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1108499) concerning how to deal with a boot loop (which is not my case) it is said to make a "wipe user data" and than to flash a stock ROM.
Do you think that, in my case, make a factory reset would directly fix the problem, or I also have to flash?
Than you very much!

Very Short Video Explaining Everything!
Hello,
I've found out that when I choose reboot from the recovery mode, I get this error:
E: copy_kernel_file :: Can't open /data/log/recovery_kernel_log.txt
To explain you the problem I have with the phone, I made this very short video:
Having this error, is it safe to select wipe data/factory reset?
I summarize: I have some very important data on the phone, in particular some voice recording and some data took with the app Note Everything that I would really like to save.
What can you suggest me to do?
Thank you very much again.

Hi Sun90 and thanks. Unfortunately KIES keeps telling me "connecting" but does't connect.
You can find all the info in my first post, please see "Some additional information" here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25577449&postcount=1
What can you suggest me to do to save data?
Having the kernel error, if I factory reset is it possible to have even a more serious problem?
Thanks.

To resolve it: From your homescreen click menu, then Settings, Applications, Manage Applications. This screen will have tabs running across the top, click the ALL tab. Then scroll down to LogsProvider, select the app, then Force Stop and Clear Data. After that you should be good to go.

This is the solution.
You might not need to do a factory reset, I just cleared cache partition and it worked.
Explained here on StackExchange, I'm not allowed to post URLs yet:

"Unfortunately Contact Storage has stopped working" [FIX]

1. Clear Cache and Data
Try clearing the temporary storage area of your Contacts using these steps:
Go to Settings
Proceed to Application Manager
Select the All tab
Choose Contacts
Tap Clear Cache
Selecting Clear Data is optional since this will erase all the changes that you have made to some of your Phone app’s settings but it may solve the problem based on some users who have tried it.
Go back to the previous menu and choose Phone
Tap Clear Cache and Clear Data
2. Change Date Format
Go to Settings
Select More
Under Date and Time, change the format to 24 hours
3. Delete Rogue Apps
Start your phone under Safe Mode, observe if the problem occurs. If not, there is probably a third-party app causing the bug. Exit Safe Mode and try to recall the most recent app that you have installed prior to the problem. Disable it for a while to test whether the error still comes out.
4. Factory Reset or Flash Original Firmware.

Adware on my phone lollipop 5.1.1 help needed

Hey i have a terrible adware thingy on my phone, unable to remove it. No antivirus detect anything.. Its different sometimes. Before it came only when i open whatsapp now it comes anywhere. It comes 1 time a week (not often) very few times a week. Pls help.. How do i remove this????
No one knows ?
if it started just on whats app i would generally suggest it has linked to the whats app files. now it is opening more and more it has now sync with most of your files and folders.
best thing to do factory reset your device save as much as you can to SD card which you need.
1 Before you reset your Android , see options for backing up your data.
2 On your mobile device, open the Settings menu Settings .
3 Under "Personal", touch Backup & reset. You may need to enter your pattern, PIN or password.
4 Under "Personal data", touch Factory data reset.
5 Read the information on the screen and touch Reset phone.
6 If you have a screen lock, you'll need to enter your pattern, PIN or password.
7 When prompted, touch Delete everything to delete all data from your device's internal storage.
8 When your device has finished erasing, select the option to reboot your device.
Ps stay off the porn sites ^^ generally virus are downloads when visiting random links and the website installs an .apk generally the main anti virus programs are paid to miss these or dont bother because they think there a part of an .apk so do not flag up hope this helps

Thx for the long help thing. But im not gonna reset because of a pop up thing i barely see anymore, but well thanks
Yeah more and more things like this are being sent through whatsapp and fb. It mostly because now alot of people from smaller/developing countries are using it while the majority of us gave it up and switched to something else.
if you would like to know where and what is pop it up try installing "QtADB" it has a program in it called "logcat" basically shows you all jobs that the phone is running you can use this to bug check where the program is running from but you may be going in circles for a few hours thats why i said just to reset. google QtADB should come up with a list of instructions to install.

Mi Pad 4 LTE GPS Issue

Hey guys,
I have a Mi Pad 4 lte 64g version, so I know that there is a working GPS in this device,
but all the apps that I have tried on the stock Chinese Rom could not catch a GPS signal, with or without a sim card in the tray.
I have recently unlocked my device and installed the Blissrom v12.10, to see if that could solve my GPS issues, but I am getting the same results.
Can anyone recommend a fix to this issue or point me to a ROM that has a functioning GPS for Google Maps or other Maps?
Thanks in advnace.

You tried to delete A-GPS data and download a new data set for ur location which enhances fix times
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pierwiastek.gpsdata
Also, did you update to latest xiaomi EU firmware before flashing custom rom?
Have the same issue. Downloaded offline Maps for google maps at home. Switched off everything. Just activated GPS in the top bar and took the mi pad 4 with me. No chance to get a GPS signal.
Tried to fix with app GPSfix. No success.
Flashed to Lineage. No success to get GPS running.
I Have NO SIM card inserted.
Google Maps shows GPS bullet on google maps only when sitting at home and being connected to WIFI.
answer from global service was:
I would request you to follow the below-mentioned steps to resolve your issue:
1. It is necessary to confirm whether to turn on the GPS (you can check the shortcut by dropping down the notification bar or entering the Settings)
2. Satellite positioning requires high environmental requirements. Firstly, positioning should be carried out in an open outdoor environment with no shielding.
3. The use of protective cases, protective cases, and dust plugs with metal materials (including the meter key) will have a certain impact on the positioning. It is recommended to remove similar accessories when using the positioning function.
If the issue persists, I would request you to follow the below-mentioned steps:
Sign Out from your Mi Account:-
1. Go to Settings
2. Select Mi Account
3. Then confirm to Sign Out
Create a Backup:-
1. Go to Settings
2. Select Additional Settings/ Select About Phone
3. Select Backup and Reset
4. Select Local Backups
5. Select Backup
6. Select Accounts and Contacts & select System
7. Then select Backup so that a Backup file could be created
For Finding Backup File:-
1. Go to Internal Storage
2. Select MIUI
3. Select Backup
4. Select All Backup
(Note:- Please save the Backup file on your PC/ Laptop, so that your important data would be prevented)
Factory Data Reset:-
1. Go to Settings
2. Select Additional Settings/ Select About Phone
3. Select Backup and Reset
4. Tap on Factory Data Reset
MIUI update: -
1. Then go to Settings> About phone> System update> Check for update
2. Tap on '...' icon at the top right side/ long press menu button
3. Choose download latest package
4. Once the downloading gets completed click on update and reboot option.
Restoring Data:-
1. Go to Settings
2. Select Additional Settings/ Select About Phone
3. Select Backup and Reset
4. Select Local Backups
5. Select Backup File
6. Select Restore to complete this process
I hope the above troubleshooting steps resolve the issue. However, if the issue persists would request you to coordinate with the point of purchase for further assistance.

globald service redirects you to us because you outed to be german. But we do not have support for Mi Pad4 as the device is not (yet) offered in germany.
maybe you can test (in case phoneapp without SIM card is working) if the GPS sensor is intact: dial *#*#64663#*#* in the app which should start a hardware test menu where you might be able to test GPS/location.
But most probably the sensor is defect. In this case point of purchase is responsible (or service team of the country from point of purchase).
