PLEASE READ READ READENTIRE OP

CURRENT PROJECT STATUS:
BETA v4.10-B01 [PL1/Lollipop:5.0]
WHAT IS SAFESTRAP?
Safestrap is a Bootstrap / Recovery for locked bootloader phones. The goal is to avoid touching your primary system (I'll call this "stock" system) and only flash or make large changes to another place on your phone that Safestrap treats as a "2nd system" (in this case, it's a series of virtual ROM slots located on the internal emmc area: "/sdcard"). Once installed, you will see a "Splashscreen" giving you the option to hit "menu" to enter recovery. The recovery portion of Safestrap is now based on TWRP 3.3.0 (a touch based recovery) and you can perform .zip installs, backups and restores here. The additional features I've added to TWRP are mostly located under the "Boot Options" menu:
Here you can create virtual ROM-slots for flashing ROMs. NOTE: The bigger you make the /data partition the less room you will have to make other ROM-slots.
You can activate a new ROM-slot by choosing the slot you wish to make active and then selecting the "Activate" button. Once active, you will see the "rom-slot#" up in the top of the screen shown in green. If you make the "stock" ROM active, then you can see it in the top shown in red.
Once a ROM-slot is active, all actions you would normally perform using TWRP are directed to that ROM-slot. For example, "Install" to flash a .zip, backup and restore.
HOW DO I INSTALL SAFESTRAP?
Requirement: Root
[Safestrap pre V4.07] Requirement: busybox. Grab "Busybox" from the Play Store and run the installer.
APK install:
Once installed, open up the Safestrap application, Agree to the disclaimer that you won't try to sue me and hunt me down with a rifle if you manage to break your phone..
Then use the "Install Recovery" button. You should see the current version down in the lower left corner of the window. And the "Status:" should say "Installed" when you're done.
From there you can reboot and you *should* see a new splash screen during the boot up. While this is showing you can enter Safestrap Recovery using the [ menu ] button.
Flashable zip:
Flash using Safestrap recovery or FlashFire.
HOW DO I ENTER RECOVERY?
Note: ENG_OF1 is 4.2.2 and not like OF1 5.0
Reboot to Download mode then flash BL_ENG_OF1_BOOT_ABOOT_I545V.tar
During each reboot a splashscreen will be displayed showing whether the device is running a rom-slot or on the "Stock ROM".
Press the button shown on the screen to either enter "RECOVERY" or "CONTINUE" booting (or the hard button underneath each option).
HOW DO I EXIT RECOVERY?
Reboot to Download mode from Safestrap recvoery then flash BL_PL1_BOOT_ABOOT_I545V.tar
HOW DO I UPGRADE SAFESTRAP?
APK:
Push the APK up to your sdcard.
Boot back into the "stock" rom-slot.
Open your old Safestrap app and use the "Uninstall Recovery" button
Browse to where you pushed the APK
Click on it and install like normal
Once installed, open the APK, Grant SU access, Use the "Install Recovery" button.
Flashable zip:
Flash using Safestrap recovery or FlashFire.
KNOWN ISSUES:
- Sometimes the installation doesn't work correctly. If you don't see the splashscreen after a rebooting. Install Safestrap again.

Success! Thank you so much! The process lasted about 30 minutes. Several reboots and root done.

I need your advice. After successful installation of Safestrap, Omega I9505 V42.1 was flashed. The result is a splash screen Samsung custom. Safestrap did not boot. Installing a stoсk i545 modem and bootloader with Odin did not affect. Flashed i545 PL1 with Odin. As a result, got stuck on a splash screen Verizon.
Before the modifications, configuration was:
bootloader - I545VRSGPL1
PDA - I545VRSGPL1
CSC - I545VZWGPL1
Baseband - I545VRSGPL1
Kernel 3.4.0-4584173
I made a backup in Safestrap, but I don’t know how to install it.
What can I try to do in this situation? Thanks.

Dont flash the boot.img
Use safestrap to flash the rom. Then go back to PL1 bootloaders and boot.img

I am on OF1 running stang 5 litre ROM with flash fire installed. Is there any point in going to PL1 and installing safe strap? What ROMs work with it?

This is for the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition with android 4.4.2 and 5.x.x with model number SM-P600 not the SM-P601
This page HERE has step by step instructions if you are confused, however, it is fairly simple and just a few steps if you are familiar with the process already.
1. Download Root file HERE
2. Extract that file
3. Make sure USB Debugging is Check on Setting>General>Developer Option
4. If Developer Options do not appear anywhere, go to Setting>General>About Device. Then hit build number several times until it says Developer Options have been turned on.
5. Turn Off The Note 10.1, than go to Download Mode by pressing and holding the Volume Down+Power buttons together (long press until the boot screen appear), now press Volume Up key to proceed to Download Mode.
6. Now connect your Galaxy Note 10.1 P600 to your computer via USB cable
7. In Odin3 screen, you should see a COM Port number like “0:[COMX]” at ID:COM section and “Added!” text at the message box. This means your device has been detected by Odin3.
8. Make sure that, only the “Auto Reboot” and “F. Reset Time” options are checked.
9. Now, click on the AP (PDA in older Odin) button and select the CF-Auto-Root-lt03wifi-lt03wifixx-smp600.tar.md5 file.
10. Finally, click on the Start button to begin the rooting process, wait up to a few minutes
11. Once completed, you would see “PASS!” message in ID:COM port having green background
*Your Tablet should automatically reboot after completion. You can now disconnect your Tablet from computer
**Also, you should open up SuperSU and update the binary the normal way not TWRP/CWM. That mode did not work for me so do normal.
Attached is the file you can also download from step 1.

I made these instructions because I haven't seen a guide for the P600 with KitKat 4.4.2

this change the knox count, right?
Only Towelroot works without triggering knox. But its not available for exynos SoCs.
Can't get this to work unfortunately am running stock 4.4.2 and it flashes just fine via odin, goes to the "loading" root procedure with the pirate android but no Su gets installed nor is it rooted (as verified with root checking apps including manually installing super su)
Device; SM-P600
Build: K0T49H.P600UEUCNI1
Android Version: 4.4.2
Kernel version: 3.4.39-1462259
Device Status: Custom (??)
Update; Ah it might be due to the firmware I am using. Going to try retry this with UEUCND2 and see if this is absolved.
Update 2 (update to above); OK Kies just flashes the NK2 rather than the ND2... this also does not work so just waiting for ND2 to finish downloading.
Update 3; yup! Flashing ND2 worked just fine. Super Su wasn't installed but it was rooted so just manually installing is no biggie. Thanks!

Thanks for posting this. I saw the NK2 update on Kies but didn't get it after I read your post, so I was able to root ND2 using this thread. I read that NK2 fixes some issues with Chromecast though, so I'd still like to update to that if possible. OTA updates now don't work, but when I connect to Kies, it still asks if I want to upgrade to NK2. Has anyone tried this from ND2 and successfully kept root using SuperSU "Survival Mode"? If not, any other way to get to NK2 stock rooted? Thanks.
Update: Well I installed TWRP to make a Nandroid backup so I could give the Kies upgrade to NK2 a try. (I thought it could save me some time reinstalling and customizing things.) Kies downloads the NK2 firmware, reboots the tablet into download mode, but then fails saying the device is unsupported. I'm assuming it's because of the TWRP recovery. I don't know if it's worth flashing back to the stock recovery and trying again and then reflashing TWRP to attempt to root it with the SuperSU zip (if necessary). Really this is all a little beyond my experience level...
NK2 worked fine for me people (Just so you guys don't have to wait an hour to download firmware from Sammobiles free website)
I just purchased a used SM-P600 with the latest XAR rom (Build date: Feb 11, 2015):

Any idea whether the CF-Auto-Root on the first post will work?
Thanks in advance.

Can you expand on this please. I was unaware that twrp could also root the device. If this is the case then I would choose this option since it will do both things we need in one step (root and install recovery)

I odin the latest twrp. Boot to recovery. Reboot to system within twrp. Prior to it rebooting, It will ask if you want to root it. I think the default is yes. So just acknowledge it and it roots it, boots to system and Super SU will be installed. Click on Super SU and update it and you should be good to go.
Technically, this method should work with any device that has an unlockable bootloader. I usually use this method for all my devices.

What version of TWRP are you using to root? I can't get CF-Auto-Root-lt03wifi-lt03wifixx-smp600 or autorootp600mj4.tar.md5 to root. It goes through the process but I have no super user. I was able to get into TWRP 2.7.1.0 but it failed to flash a rom because I think there is some issue with my root. When I tried to reboot to system via TWRP it didn't ask to root. I also tried TWRP 2.8.7.0 and it just freeze upon entering TWRP. Please help. I'm on Kitkat 4.4.2

Help getting Cyanogen on NC5 build VZW S4

I managed to get my girlfriends S4 unbricked by flashing a NC5 4.4.2 rom on her phone.
I got safestrap going, super user, etc. on her phone.
From here, how can I get a custom ROM loaded? I tried following cyanogen's steps, but the loki flash does nothing to my phone. When I try to reboot into recovery, it just boot loops till I try to start normally.
These are the steps Im talking about:
"Prepare and flash your recovery image
Download ClockworkMod Recovery:
ClockworkMod Recovery: download
Rename to: recovery.img
Download the Loki installer files (credit to djrbliss for Loki).
Extract the contents of the zip. (You might need to move the recovery image into the same directory as the zip contents, and rename it "recovery.img".)
Windows: run the install-cwm.cmd file
Reboot into recovery and proceed to next section."

Safestrap is the recovery if you're not on MDK. Unfortunately, you're not on mdk. Safestrap users can only flash TW based roms and a couple of GPE roms. No CM, AOSP, nor AOKP will work. It's sad but true. There are some solid TW roms in the development section. Just make sure to follow the steps in the OP since some roms require other files to be flashed with some roms.

mdk was the last build that had the loki exploit. The OTA after that killed it and all subsequent builds.

During each reboot a splashscreen will be displayed showing whether the device is running a rom-slot or on the "Stock ROM".
Press the button shown on the screen to either enter "RECOVERY" or "CONTINUE" booting (or the hard button underneath each option).

Recovey uses different mount point, recovery log can help.
Thank you
If the main OS becomes unbootable due to a bootloop or something of that sort, is it possible to get back to SS? What does it take to convert Odin-flashable firmware into TWRP/SS flashable firmware?

Thanks a bunch for this bad a#$ tool/utility this makes my life as an avid modder so much easier when flashing and modding system files awesome work and yes I did have to change the mount points to get my zip to flash and aroma is working as well!!!!!!!!! :good::highfive::good:
Dang Ive been busy all stinkin day and just come across it.
Nice......
Whoa, this is awesome! So this isn't exactly unlocking the bootloader, right? It's just one of the first custom recoveries working on Snapdragon? This is super cool, thank you!

Just wait, I will start working on new ROM soon.
Also stock odin flashable including SS and ROOT (flashing ENG boot to enable them).
Damn, I never thought I'd see the day So I the battery is still locked to 80% right? Anyway good job and best of luck in future developments man!
Confirmed working on G950W. Great job! One nitpick I have about is that scrolling is incredibly laggy/stuttery, otherwise the whole package works fine other than the rom slots.

Will try to fix lag issue soon.
Does this work for all snapdragon S8s, or only the unlocked variants? I have the Tmobile version and would love this.
Also, any ROMs that come from this, will they still have the 80% battery life issues if the custom ROM doesn't use root (I'm not sure if all custom ROMs require root or not). Do the ROMs still have to be based on stock samsung, or could we see AOSP style ROMs with this?

[RECOVERY LOCKED/Nougat/7.0][G892U/A] Safestrap Recovery v4.11 B01 [Dec 10, 2019]

Samsung Galaxy S8 Active (Snapdragon)
PLEASE READ READ READENTIRE OP
"ALL MAJOR WORK DONE BY HASHCODE SO GO GIVE HIM SOM THANKS.DO NOT POST ANY BUG OR ISSUE COUSED BY THIS RECOVERY IN ORIGINAL THREAD BY HASHCODE, POST HERE AND I WILL HELP YOU."
CURRENT PROJECT STATUS:
BETA v4.11-B01 [Nougat:7.0]
During each reboot a splashscreen will be displayed showing whether the device is running a rom-slot or on the "Stock ROM".
Press the button shown on the screen to either enter "RECOVERY" or "CONTINUE" booting (or the hard button underneath each option).

WARNING: Safestrap is heavily modified to be "Safe" for your device. Do not download TWRP from their website and expect it to work the same way. Also TWRP does not support Safestrap, tho some issues that may come up will be TWRP dependant, please try and contact myself or look on the forums for your device for answers before hunting down TWRP people. They won't be able to help w/ Safestrap specific questions.
Special Thanks To

First safestrap not working on oreo/pie without permissive kernel. Try this
https://www.google.com/amp/s/forum....rnel-permissive-patcher-android-t3506338/amp/
I will make you twrp soon. Will pm you when its ready.
Edit: no need to build new twrp for your device, data encrypted on oreo/pie.
After booting in TWRP download and flash no-verity-opt-encrypt-6.0 zip to disable data partition encryption

Hi,
I just installed this on my g892a, however it fails to mount /data. It looks like it's trying to mount /dev/block/sda24, however, on my phone it's actually /dev/block/sda23:
I tried changing the partition in /etc/safestrap/ss.config but that didn't do anything
Is there anything I can do to get it to mount, or do you need to recompile twrp?
Thanks!

You need to edit twrp.fstab and ss.config in twrp recovery too.
I will try to add support for G892A in the next build.

Alright, I haven't built twrp / safestrap before so I'm having some trouble figuring it out, but I don't want to bug you with that. I do have a question though - when i get this working, could i flash a rom (to the stock rom slot) like a stock oreo rom with the same bootloader revision and keep safestrap installed? And then if I wanted to I could restore the backup of the nougat rooted rom? It looks like it can be done with the regular s8, but I'm confused as to whether it would work here or what I would need to do.

you can just flash image in safestrap and then flash the safestrap for nougat zip in post 2 (or its included in the new DSF6 build) after you flash the nougat system image in safestrap to get back to nougat safestrap. If you fail to flash the safestrap zip for nougat your phone will automatically boot to safestrap on every reboot on a nougat rom.

Nice this ROM just goes over the Nougat image with all my settings and apps intact. Even the pay apps are working (probably because no root). Now I just need to find a way to flash Viperaudio drivers then I'm all set.

I've tried to flash a few different viper zips in safestrap to no avail. The driver would not load. I was told that root is needed to actually "load" the drivers, even if you install them via safestrap. I'm not sure this is true though because if it was, the viper app would ask for root privs, wouldn't it? Anyways, if you make any progress let me know I need that viper in my life.

You should be able to change the permissions for the files themselves with safestrap you can change file permissions if it allows us read write to system then you could try making an init script to load in on boot with rooted permissions to load the viperaudio like an init.d
Vipermod start service this is just off of the top of my head but I will look into more this weekend when I got some time to test out the new rom and safestrap
Viper will not work without root because it needs to execute a script at startup and no scripts will execute on a stock system. There were or maybe are rootless version but they still needed a permissive kernel to work
