[REVIEW] ESR Ultra Clear Tempered Glass Screen Protector - Xiaomi Mi 9 Accessories

So for some extra piece of mind I decided to fit a screen protector.

I've tried the IMAK first, but that ruined the finger print scanner and one edge kept lifting. Then I found the ESR one, I also used an ESR one on my previous phone (Mi Mix 2) and while I liked it there, it wasn't super durable due to the cut-out.
The ESR for the Mi9 doesn't have a cut out for the front camera, nor does it have more black than just a slim border around the edge, just the way I like it. It also comes with:
-a tool so the protector is nicely aligned
-a wet wipe and dry wipe
-dust removal sticker
-screen protector
I did use that tool. However I still moved it an hair down to get the perfect fit. Also the protector initially showed some light spots (where the protector didnt properly stuck to the screen), those spots were easily massaged out. The finger print scanner works as before, screen is clear and responsive. 10/10 from me so far, I'll update it in a few weeks
Ignore the rainbow effect on the screen, that's caused by my camera and polarization filter, forgot to remove it

Mind sharing purchase link my friend.?

Aliexpres 2 for 8 euro with the tool.. Just ordered them

Indeed, I got them from Aliexpress too

Is the black frame taking some screen?

Maybe a hair

What about the screen transparency? Does it have more reflection on it? And the touch feeling, is it glass touch as the real display or does it feel less smooth more like plastic?
All screen protectors with the black frame I tried in the past for my Mi5s from other brands suffered from these issues I mentioned above because the way they added the the rounded black frame is by applying a non-glass film over the top to stuck the frame and the glass together. The problem is that then you don't have a glass touch feeling anymore and the plastic film will increase the light reflection which reduces the visibility, which seems like a very cheap screen.
I'm wondering if this also happens with brand you're using. What's your opinion on that matter?
Thanks

Can you guys share which links you used to buy those?
EDIT: Nevermind, easy to find. For those interested: https://esrcase.aliexpress.com/store/1936564

What about notification led it is visible ?

Nicely visible and the protector is still great!

I just applied the Mascheri tempered glas protector for Mi 9T to my Mi 9. Since it doesn't have the notch for the selfie cam it looks much more elegant. And the glas doesn't influence at all the front cam in terms of quality.
Cheers

I've bought this ESR protection two times. I just find that the black borders don't fit exactly the ones on the phone. It is very slight but enough to bother me. For example on one side the black border will fit the right side but not exactly the left side. Except this issue the protaction is great, it just bother me so I don't use this one.

After applying this ESR Ultra Clear Tempered Glass Screen Protector that I bought in AliExpress for around 6 USD, and been using it for 3 days, here's my review:
PROS:
- Good package, the glass cames in a hard base instead of a plastic film, so it reduces the dust being attracted by the static
- Extremely easy to apply due to the blue frame that comes with the package - in my case it fitted perfectly
- No hole in the front camera, which eliminates the dust being accumulated there when there's a hole (like it happens with Nillkin)
- Nice touch, real tempered glass and oleophobic, it feels just like original screen touch.
- 100% transparent, it doesn't add any reflection
- Fits perfectly the edges of the screen. It is hard to see that it has a screen protector on it.
- Since it doesn't each the screen edge, it allows you to use silicone cases that are taller. With other's such as Cafele Full Edge the silicone case was touching the edge and it would take off easily.
- Seems resistant, I have used only for 3 days but yesterday the phone fell in the floor and it didn't broke. The fact it doesn't reach the edges it helps to reduce the impacts (sure, you should use a silicone case to protect the edges)
CONS:
- Because it doesn't reach the edges perfectly, which is a good thing also as I explained in the PROS, this makes the bezels larger, which means it covers the screen a liitle bit. It's unnoticeable, I don't feel I'm loosing useful screen, but you can notice the bezel is larger. For me this is only an aesthetic issue.
- It doesn't have any transparency in the LED place which means you cannot see the LED when looking to the phone in the table from below. The workaround is to place the phone in the table with top side towards to you.
- The biggest CONS for me is the fact that this screen really affects the fingerprint sensor. With my previous screen protector, a CAFELE not full edge, it was working fine. But after applying this, not only it fails 50% of the times, but also when it works it's slower. Perhaps this is because this glass is thinker. Anyway this is my biggest drawback and eventually the reason why I won't buy it again, because for me this is a deal breaker.
If you really care about the performance of the fingerprint sensor, I recommend you to use the CAFELE non full edge screen protector, which is cheap (~2 USD), has nice touch, is oleophopic, 100% transparent and fingerprint sensor keeps working ok. The only drawback of it is that it is not full edge and thus you can see the edge of the screen still on top of the original screen. For me this is not an issue because the only practical consequence is that you actually see there's a screen protector on it, but it doesn't affect the visibility or touch. The CAFELE full edge I don't recommend it because it cannot be used with the silicone cases I tested. Both CAFELE screen protectors I used seem to not have great durability, they break easily, sometimes without even notice what caused it to break.
Later on I will give feedback about the durability of the ESR screen protector.

1 It fits perfect (because is 1/2 mm smaller than the original and it fits perfect at the edges)

I'm wondering which one should i get, the screen protector or the invisible shield?
i bought brando ultraclear. Now i'm waiting
I just ordered it as well.
Looks cool and got a lot positive reviews. Should be ok than
The Brando Ultra Clear fits perfect on the Touch HD.
For me I use the Brando´s screen protectors for years and I think it´s the best you can get.
I have the Ultraclear and found it is about 1mm too short - it leaves a very small amount of fascia just below the buttons unprotected.
That said, it is better than the rubbish one that comes in the box.
If you are in the UK, they are available from Inkino from stock.
I bought mine from xpansys which is quite good, fits brilliantly & covers full screen exactly. you get two in the pack

I agree it's too small, but much better then the htc one.
im also thinking of getting that screen protector. but yall saying is doesn't fit the whole screen. is it noticeable. can you guys show a pics with the screen protector on the phone. thanks in advance.
My Brando Ultra Clear arrived in yesterday's mail from Hong Kong. Now I feel like a total idiot ... I can't get this @&%@ thing to stick down and stay on the screen. How on earth does it attach? There's no adhesive or sticky side. I've spent an hour trying to fit it to the Touch HD. Lots of bubbles - the screen looks like it has leprosy. I've washed it, cleaned it, tried everything I know.
HELP! Please!!
BTW, it has a cut-out for the light sensor, but not for the front cam (which the stock HTC one has).
is Brando's soft film?
This screen protector is 100x better than the stock one, in my opinion. Here's a picture for size reference

Are you trying to put on the actual screen protector or the piece of film that covers the protector when you open that pack? I was doing this myself for a couple of minutes, if its the top cover then its quite rubbery and green tinted, the actual screen protector is probably still stuck to the back cover of the protector still as mine was.
As for the Brando protector once it's on its a lot more impressive than the HTC one from the box, there is a very tiny gap at the bottom of the screen but less than a mm and doesn't affect useage.

Thanks for replying, KASM! No, I'm using the clear Utra Clear itself and not the bluey-green film that protects the protector. The instructions say that one should fit the protector to the device and then remove the green film. I tried that, with no success whatsoever. After fiddling for a while the clear protector had fingerprint smudges, so I washed it (without the device, as the instructions recommend ), dried it with a hairdryer (as recommended) and tried for another hour.
This is rather infuriating as I'm considered rather handy with little tech thingies ... I can't quite change a transistor on the silicon, but doing electronics is a doddle, so why the [email protected]#& is this giving me such grief...
AFW, did you try the other side of this screen-protector?
Cos normally they have that sticky surface covered by this blueish-greenish film
Although I got mine on with little fuss, I must have made a hash of cleaning the screen as it shows as lots of dust particles underneath the SP, have to do the damn thing again after cleaning it.
Determined to get it right after spending so much on a piece of plastic.

Mine arrived this afternoon BUT after a number of failed attempts to get a perfect fit I think I might need to give the screen protector a wash
Does anyone have any tips on the best way to wash the screen protector before I try to reapply it (I suspect that flinging it in the washing machine isn't considered a good move )
I am waiting for my ultra-clear, i beg on my knees somebody with a "BRANDO deployment certification" to kindly explain the process so that i avoid to put my self-confidence at stake!

Orzly® - Premium Tempered Glass 0.24mm Protective Screen Protector For SONY XPERIA Z3 Review.
1. 0.24mm Tempered Glass construction for enhanced impact resistance
2. Maintains perfect image clarity while protecting your phone's screen from scratches, bumps & knocks
3. Easy installation with no risk of bubbles
4. Includes cleaning cloth and application card
5. Anti-chip rounded edge improves gliding and grip experience.
6. Smudge and fingerprint resistant: Oleophobic coating reduces smudges and fingerprints, ensures easy cleaning
7. $15 on amazon
Before I continue let me just say that I’m not a screen protector kind of guy and I have used other products that ended up not lasting or peeling, but when I first read about the Orzly tempered glass I admit I was intrigue.
I received the Package a few days ago which was very nice for a simple screen protector, inside was a Orzly® Tempered Glass Screen Protector, alcohol towelette, microfiber cloth, 2 dust-removal adhesive strip, applicator / bubble-removal card and the instructions manual.
The From the minute I took it out the box I knew this was something different, it felt sturdy and extremely clear even with the sticky film still attached to it. I immediately went to YouTube and quickly watched the video on how to apply it once again just to make sure. I cleaned the screen on the phone real well using all the methods included in the package, the sticky strips worked very well at the end to remove final flying particles of dust. I must say it works as advertised, I placed the screen protector flat on the phone and pressed in the middle section only to watch the screen protector install itself just as the video showed. The corners are rounded to give it a better fit on the phone which also helps with some phone cases not lifting the corner edges. the final product is very nice and flat with out any bubbles or lifted areas, it almost feels as if the two layers fussed together.
Final Thoughts
The Orzly screen protector is definitely a keeper, it feels amazing to the touch retaining full functionality of the screen. The clarity is also very nice and to be honest I can’t tell the difference between the original screen and the Orzly layer. I highly recommend this screen protector to anyone with an Xperia Z3 looking for a premium product!!!!

Thanks for the review :good: I think their glass screen protectors are fantastic, I have ordered a few of theirs for devices that I've tested in the past. Phones with curved edges however aren't brilliant but then no glass screen protector is. Curved edged phones are the Achilles heel of glass screen protectors!

Tempered glass for XZP

Anyone know a tempered glass that at least covers the screen part (curved screen is a pain)? I got something on ebay but it doesn't cover the sides of the screen. I don't like those with adhesive on the sides only and they tend to cover the chrome with a different color.

The Nillkin Tempered Glass covers only the screen. It won't reach the edges. I'd get that, but it just looks awkward if it only covers the center of the screen.
This has also been a thorn in my side as well. I found one on Amazon that claims full protection it's 3D glass and full adhesive coverage as well, but I'm hesitant to buy it because it's $22.

Also looking for something similar to keep fingerprint marks off. I've tried two screen protectors which both claimed to cover the flat part of the front screen panel. This happened with both of them.

I've got 2 hairline scratches on my screen which are only visible when the screens off and in the reflection of light. Petty perhaps but I seriously can't wait for a proper fitting tempered glass screen protector. If any of you manage to find one please post about it.
Thank you.

Guys
I want glass protector for back ( already I have for front " panzer ")
I want powerful and good quality
If there are in Ali express, or eBay or Amazon send me link.
Alaa, look at the link posted above. There is an option for a "black" under colours? Perhaps this is for the back? Maybe I'm wrong I just can't see why a black screen protector would exist.

@cheddarchi hi did you manage to apply the Max tempered glass? How did it go?
I had 2 types of screen protectors on my XZ Premium so far...
1- Nillkin: did not cover the entire screen and that was annoying. It was fully adhesive and that meant the clarity of the 4k screen was not affected at all! Another problem with it was how it slightly changed the colours on by making them slightly more dimmed compared to the parts of the screen that had no glass over it.
TopNow tempered glass: this is the one I currently have on and it's OK (for now). It does cover the entire screen and it comes with black edges that have no adhesive on the glass part. Because the glass is only hovering over the screen you will notice some rainbow effect if you press the glass. Also the clarity isn't better than the nillkin when it comes to 4k content however the colors didn't lose accuracy. It's also doing a good job at repelling fingerprints.
I'm still searching for the right tempered glass. One that's fully adhesive and covers the entire screen. If it's clear on the edges and bezels then that's an excellent bonus.

It is "ok" (it'll do the job.) It doesn't seem to distort colours or affect sensitivity, but then I haven't had much chance to play with the phone before or after applying it (it's my wife's and she opted for the screen protector ASAP)
It doesn't cover the screen entirely (there's about a 1mm gap all the way around bezel.) But when paired with the official sony case, this becomes less noticeable and not really an issue. If you're using it as a "naked" phone with just this protector, it might become more of an issue?
The sticky portion of this protector covers the entire screen (display portion) but it doesn't go ALL the way to the edge of the protector. This means if you have the screen off and look on an angle, you can see where it's "stuck on" (there's an extra "rectangle" you can see, which is the "glue" of the protector).
My biggest complaint would be that it's a fingerprint magnet! (seems to get really oily/smudged up easily! I dont know if this is because she chose chrome? or if it's just quality of glass.) Compared to Nillkin 9H+ protectors I've used on the Z3 (which the wife keeps cracking!) and the G3 (still going strong after ~3yrs use), I'd be able to use it without seeing fingerprints on it, and only need to "wipe it down" if i've used the phone (held it against my ear, get all the oil from face onto screen) or the kids have been using it
The other thing is that the "glue" doesn't seem to hold the protector in place. Continuing from above, if you give the protector/screen a good "rub" to clean it, it's actually possible to shift it (misalignment of the holes for speaker/lights/etc)... you have to press pretty hard, but it's possible. I dont know if this is because it hasn't had time to "set" yet or if it'll remain like this (I'm guessing probably the latter). Workaround is to just be more gentle with the phone/screen?
All in all, I'd say it does the job and at AU$15 for 2 protectors, it's about the quality I'd expect for that price!
@cheddarchi Mate thanks a lot for that clear and thorough review.
I truly miss the good days when buying near perfect screen protectors was EASY!
The tempered glass I had on my Z3 Compact and Z5 ticked all the boxes you mentioned in your post. They covered the entire screen, fully adhesive, truly oleophobic and you wouldn't even know it's on.
The slightly curved screen is what's making it difficult for manufacturers to get this one right.

Screen protector?

Hi,
Which glass screen protector you recommend?
I hate the small protectors not covering the full screen and the one with black borders too.
Any idea?

It works like a charm, but slightly distorts the fingerprint reading. I added my prints again after putting on the protector and enabled extra sensitivity in display settings. Fingerprint etc. all work as should.
Btw: It covers the whole screen and the black borders are some kind of adhesive. Seems like the vacuum type of covers don't work so well with the in-screen fingerprint reader. The black borders however fall on the outside of your screen, so it's black on black and not noticeable.

That sounds amazing, do you have photos? Do they sell internationally?
So far I'm going to get a Nillkin CP Pro as that's what I used for my Mate 20 and it was silky smooth, no scratches after 6 months too, real tempered glass.
I used a chinese brand "Panorama" 9H tempered glass full screen with black borders, hated it and took it off after 5 mins.
Nillkin?

Well to be honest, for me, nothing beats a tempered glass no matter what. I am using a local tempered glass i bought in an online shop in my country. Tho it doesnt fit all the way to the sides, it covers the screen almost entirely.
At least a cheap tempered glass makes me feel secured that my screen wont get scratches and it will not break as another layer of defense is on top. Even tho it is a gorilla glass, it doesnt mean it'll not break or scratch. A few dollars of investment for the phone is not bad in my opinion and the extra bulk has more advantages than the disadvantages.
Seems like all the glass screen protectors with full screen curved black borders cover alot of the side screen. The clear ones fit on the spot but you have to align it right. Supershieldz causes the borders to lift up no matter how hard you press down. Still on the quest to find the perfect one lol.
Hello mates.
Has anyone got any tempered glass that fits the full screen?
I bought one from a local shop but it doesnt fit all the screen and hate it, but at least do the job.
Answering myself. I got this one and it fits perfectly. It comes with 2 screen protectors.

I'am not sure which brand I have, I think it is Winner brand. It has those black borders cca 2mm wide. It is cracked already all over the place, and 4 impact points are visible on the edge of the glass, but phone is unharmed.. But it saved my phone at least on 2 or 3 occasions already. Good investition, cca 16Eur. Actually I did not want to buy the glass, but the salesperson pushed me by cross-selling into buying insurance for the phone (which I later cancelled but kept the glass), and the glass protector was part of insurance requirements. Also right now I am considering buying Otterbox Symmetry case for 25Eur, it looks massive enought to protect the edges even more. But the glass itself is very good protection. Actually the back of the phone is plastic, so maybe glass protector alone is enough, and there is no need for addicional full body protector.

Question Cannot get fingerprint scanner working with screen protector on

Hi, I have tried 2 different brands of glass screen protectors now, both advertised as supporting fingerprint, but i just can't register mine with them.
I have touch sensitivity turned on.
Each time i try to register my fingerprint it constantly keeps saying to try again, it had very occasionally got up to 20/30% done, but it then fails that many times that it takes me back to the start.
Is anyone else having this issue?
Regards
James
I got mine installed at a physical Samsung Experience Store. They used some machinery to perfectly fit the protector on the device. No such issue whatsoever. For all I know, you shouldn’t have any issues with the fingerprint scanner when using thin film-based screen protectors. Some tempered glass screen protectors, especially ones with UV glue may cause problems.
Glass ones have this issue(including Whitestone Dome if not applied really really well) and it's nothing new. Samsung's official plastic one is what I like.
@james_lpool If you prefer tempered glass screen protection, I would recommend this one:

As you can see in this photo, the glass is thinner above the fingerprint scanner.

Yeah but that's super expensive.
I got Amfilm , bendable plastic kind (had tempered on S22U and it was a pain) and have had zero issues with fingerprints. S pen also easily glides on it. Not too good with Spigen cases though as they have raised the case sides this year.

Well, you're paying for a high-quality glass screen protection for one of the most expensive smartphones.
Can't put cheap tires on a Ferrari
Presently I have an original Samsung film (plastic) protector fitted, so cannot comment for the S23U at the moment - but: in the past I used a Mowei protector kit for the S22U, the kit contains a weight that is put at the location of the FP sensor during curing ... this worked just fine....
i got whitestone dome glass and it works fine with my s23 ultra.
I first got Axessorize ARMORGlass, and finger print was ok, maybe 80% success rate with 4 time my finger registered. Big down side is the matt finish around the scanner.
Then simply got a gel protector. The seller told me after few month the glass protector will affect the scanner, while the gel wont.
Overall , the gel look better, but might be less safe maybe?

Which gel protector is that specifically?
Thanks for everyone's replies, after a lot of fear, hassle, and a bit of a loss of money I decided on a film protector which is working 100% fine.
Not sure if I just picked rubbish glass screen protectors, but they caused me big issues. Neither would work with fingerprint reader and because they were hard, my original case was lifting the sides of the protector a bit, meaning touch was less sensitive.
The first glass protector I tried was UV and when it came to taking this off, that was a little scary with this brand-new phone!
Trying to peel it back off was a hard job, was very stuck and was actually cracking as I was slowly lifting it off.
So now i have a different case that doesn't affect the protector and a film protector and all seems good now
