Anyone have WiFi Calling enabled and working on T-Mobile US? - Sony Xperia 1 Questions & Answers

I really need WiFi Calling in order to reasonably use this phone for calls from my house due to a poor Network signal. There is no Wifi Calling option in Calls -> Settings or in Settings -> Network & internet -> Mobile network anywhere. Also when I do *#*#4636#*#* and go into Phone information Wifi Calling Provisioned option is grayed out.

Nope. Last time I saw wifi calling available was on the XZP. Wasn't an option for the XZ3, and still not an option for the Xperia 1. Try giving tmobile a call or maybe sony support and ask if they can add wifi calling support.

Which frimeware is that ? Is that US unbranded

Nope, no wifi calling for me. I originally had the J9110 model (international dual sim, hong kong) but i recently flashed it with the US firmware. No dice, unfortunately. But since changing to the US firmware, I now get VoLTE and group message in Android Messages. It's a start.

Ya VoLTE is working fine and appears as provisioned in the hidden menu. So it seems like I will have to do something similar to what I did on the XZ Premium in order to get WiFi Calling...but I will wait until there is a DRM backup process.

I see the same thing as you. How did you do it on the xz premium?

I had to root it and flash a zip that someone made for it, it might be possible to use the same zip but I'm not going to root mine until there is a DRM backup method. I barely every talk on the phone without LTE service so it's more so just really annoying not having WiFi Calling. I think a bunch of people were using the same zip for the 2017/2018 xperia phones to get it working.

I have XZ premium and XZ1 and wifi calling option is displayed when I use the Jio sim but not displayed when using Airtel sim (using Airtel broadband), so our phones do have wifi calling facility but working only with Jio sim, although Sony is not shown in the compatible phones list. I am in India.

That also stresses me out on My Xperia 5. Don't know If You talked about My Zips for VoLTE and the other Features but i didn't get it to work actually on Android 10. Possible that i just don't have the right Firmware atm (Customized EU / My Devices Firmware isn't Out yet), so i'm using Custom UK Firmware but that should also work... I'm a bit confused so i switched to GSIs which Made it even worse... Looks like we should start making Custom Vendors for our Xperias since the Methods changed over Android 7-8-9-10

Can you flash the dual sim model to work with a single sim firmware and does Wi-fi Calling Work later?

yes, that's what i did with my xz3. volte works with tmobile, but not att.

Can someone with WIFI calling an VoLTE pull an apk for me?

I would like a copy of the com.huawei.carrierconfig apk from a mate 20 pro that has wifi calling and volte enabled.
You can extract it with an app called APK Analyzer.
I am trying to see if I can find a way to enable wifi calling on a phone that doesn't have the option to turn it on.
I think volte is down to your carrier all mobile devices have the option but your carrier has to enable it to allow it to work

My carrier has both. My phone just doesn't seem to have the required config for it to work on T-Mobile US.

Did you use a sin card which already had been used in a phone with wifi calling?
Or was this a new sim? I'm thinking that they have to provision it for these features to work. I've had better success with Tmo in person at the corporate stores. Maybe try in person at an official Tmo store.

WiFi Calling / VoLTE on Mi 9

Just wanted to share my experience with WiFi Calling. I am in the US on T-Mobile and WiFi calling has been working for me surprisingly. VoLTE has also been working wonderfully. I've tested this on a Global Mi 9 running Stock and the Xiaomi.eu rom.
Enter these codes into the Dialer to enable the options in Settings. (Settings < SIM Cards & mobile networks < Sim Card Settings < VoLTE Enabled/Make Calls using WLAN)
VoLTE *#*#86583#*#*
VoWIFI *#*#869434#*#*
Things should work after you enable the two options. This depends on whether or not your carrier supports it and your e911 address set (US only?).
Some issues you might run into is that the option for Network Preference is greyed out and you will unable to change that option. I've had some success if you disable it and re-enable it and click on that option really fast, it will go through. When you first enable VoWiFi, it is important that you get into this menu and change it to WiFi preferred or WiFi Calling won't work.
UPDATE:
Manually creating your carrier APN worked great for me. Been testing it for about 2 weeks and I haven't had any issues with VoLTE/VoWiFi. For example, for me on T-Mobile, I created a new one with the following settings. The important part I'm guessing is the APN type. Also make sure that your carrier has enabled WiFi Calling on their end as well.
APN: fast.t-mobile.com
MMSC: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
MMC : 310
MNC: 260
APN type: default,supl,mms,ims,cbs
APN protocol: IPv4/IPv6
APN roaming protocol: IPv4/IPv6
On a side note, since you're on T-Mobile US, are you getting LTE+? I was showing LTE+ on my Mix 2S and Mi 8, but doesn't show up on my Mi 9.
Can verify, works with Chinese Mi 9 8GB 128GB version. I'm also on T-Mobile. Now there is "HD" written on the signal icon.

It just randomly loses WiFi Calling. To solve this, I've been keeping my phone airplane mode with WiFi on and haven't experienced any type of disruption of service. Calls sounds great.

Worked like a charm on Romania's Orange network. Both VoLTE and VoWiFi seem to work well.

It's a carrier specific option. So go to phone-> settings-> Sim cards &.....-> Orange and should be the last two options.
Hmm...I've activated both too but only get the volte option, no wifi calling toggle switch. Tmobile USA running no root, stock miui 10.2.3. Did anyone on tmobile USA get wifi calling to work? Also, if you did, does it also activate wifi texting?
Update: guessing the volte doesn't require a restart but wifi calling requires a restart. To those who run into the same prob as me.
Ídem here, no volte options, my carrier support it and works on a s7 edge, any ideas?

After update to Miui 10.2..24.0 options for VoLTE and VoWIFI appears in menu and i can activate both.
unlike you, since the last update 10.2.24.0 I lost the option volte/vowifi, when I try to reactivate it, the phone tell me it's enabled for the SIM 2 but I have no sim two,
if i swap the sim card it tell me activated for the sim 1 ...
Same here, after the new update 10.2.24.0 i have the same message like you.

Did a quick test on mine (T-Mobile/Germany) and it's working. I just used the dial-codes and enabled wifi calling. Had to change the preferred connection type to wifi-prio though - wasn''t working with cellular-prio and flight mode before.
It works!

No Wifi Calling Option

Hi,
I am using Mate 20 Pro (LYA-L29) in US and the firmware is 232. I am pretty sure that my carrier (not U.S. carrier) supports VoWifi and I used it on this Mate 20 Pro before while I was not in U.S. After I moved to U.S., I also updated the firmware and the Wifi Calling option has gone since then. To double check what is the cause, I inserted this SIM card into an iPhone and Wifi calling was available and worked well. Therefore, I think it is a problem of this phone.
Does anyone encounter a similar problem?
Thanks!
Different networks operate WiFi calling in slightly different ways. I know that my Mate 9 didn't support WiFi calling in the US but has done in other places without issue.

I don't quite understand why wifi calling depends on the physical place. Say I set the phone to airplane mode and connect the phone to different wifi routers in different places. The wifi standard is always the same and the phone may not be able to tell where it is.
VoWiFi and VoLTE (WiFi and 4G calling) are network and handset dependant. If a particular network hasn't authorised a particular handset, or if that handset doesn't have the specific settings needed for a particular network; then VoWiFi and / or VoLTE won't work.
I installed "Network Cell Info" to check the status of Wifi Calling and the availability of Wifi Calling is No. I notice that the devices prior to mate 20 pro have a secret menu and there is a switch to turn on the availability of Wifi calling. However, the secret menu code does not work anymore in my mate 20 pro.
This is so fvcked that despite my carrier (from which I GOT THE DAMN PHONE) supporting VoWiFI (I had it working on my S7Edge before this) and despite VoLTE working on my Mate 20P, they just won't enable it on Mate 20P.
Guess what...it DOES work on P20/30 Pro, from day 1. Go figure.
Also...got a SIM from a different carrier...bam, VoWiFi working on mate 20P.
This is madness....I'm running out of hair to pull.
PS I went as far as installing Nova launcher so I can create a widget to ENABLE VoWiFi (which normally does not show up in the Settings) but of course it does not do anything because the carrier did not enable it for the phone.
i have same problem in Israel carier
i have the volte switch but its not working.
other carier its worked automatically but their internet i cant watch youtube at 1080p

My situation is exactly the same. I have a switch for VoLTE but not for VoWifi. I also tried Nova launcher, but it did not work.
The strange thing is that the sim + mate 20 pro works in one place, but not in the US.

RedMi Note 9s global unable to use wifi calling and text

I was in an area with no tmobile network and was not able to use the wifi calling and mobile texting. I tried using tmobiles APN without success.
Anyone able to get wifi calling working?
I am on Mui global 11.0.11.
Any 3rd party rom with wifi calling working?
Thanks!
Correct. It doesn't work. This has been discussed before and is known. There's no apparent way to activate it. You can "unlock" the sliders in the settings menu for both wifi calling and VoLTE, but neither one works.
Anyone roms with working wifi calling and text?
Wifi calling does work with my Curtana 9S global. I'm on EE in the UK, no special permissions required from my operator, same with VoLTE. Both worked straight out of the box. Note the wifi calling icon in screenshot.
The problem might be down to your carrier.

I'm not saying I trust their word, but I spent some time talking to T-Mobile tech support, and he assured me it was a software issue. Maybe he was lying, but I'm hoping with MIUI, we may see it work.

I'm in your exact situation. I also use T-Mobile. I also don't have a network preferences option. I unlocked both the wifi calling and the VoLTE option using the phone dialer codes that are posted on here somwhere. But neither seem to do anything as they are switched on. I'm inclined to believe that it IS IN FACT a software bug because I also have a Xiaomi Mi Note 10 using the same exact software (MIUI) and VoLTE and Wifi Calling work fine on that device.

I hope mui12 will solve this issue. I need wifi calling.
I have Tmo as well. I was unable to get volte/WiFi calling to work either with stock or on Havoc 3.7. The only alternative I came up with was to activate WiFi calling within google voice as a backup. WiFi calling worked through gvoice. I tested by removing my Tmo sim, and was able to make a call via WiFi only.
I believe it is a combination of both software and Tmo network configuration. Texting is also finicky always. However, gvoice is the only solution that I have come up with.
My previous phone, Umidigi, WiFi calling did work on stock firmware, but not on third party.
I've spent way too much time dealing with T-Mobile tech support trying to get wifi calling to work. I think it is a mix of both software and carrier interference. From what I gather, the crux of the issue is that your carrier has to approve IMS Registration. I don't believe there is a way to force it, unless someone would like to tell me I'm wrong.
I love this device, but it is becoming difficult to keep with Wifi calling unavailable as my coverage in my house is terrible.

[Need Testers and Help] VoLTE / VoWifi carrier profiles for FX2Pro

The phone is relatively new and since it's not mainstream most carriers don't support it yet. Some people say they have VoLTE enabled and it works but I personally switched to Singapore EX and it seems VoLTE isn't detected at all so I started digging and it seems this issue is present in most Chinese phones. (https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/guide-activate-volte-and-vowifi-simple-and-clear.4116051/) In this thread they used the Qualcomm tool and exploit the bug in EngineerMode on OnePlus phones which we don't have an access to and since we can't root or unlock the bootloader we can't modify build.prop or change any system files.
-----Maybe it's my carrier, maybe it's the Singapore ROM so please if VoLTE and VoWifi works for you could you post here which country you're on, which ROM version and if you changed region before or not.------
First a warning: If you aren't tech-savvy, experiencing issues or want to potentially turn your phone in a paper weight do NOT try this at the moment. We do not have the tool to restore your phone back (wiping data might work but idk). You can send your phone to Oppo for repair but you might have to wait for a month or two.
I don't know if you need to unlock your phone from the other thread to have access to this mode(I did have it all decrypted during this test) but in addition to the *#808# engineer mode and *#*#4636#*#*(Where you can check if you have VoLTE enabled) I found we have access to *#36446337#.
In *#36446337# I managed to enter "Protocol test switch" -> "MBN TEST" and switch my profile from Common-Commercial(I think it was this one) to Commercial-DT-VOLTE. The phone rebooted and everything is fine but "MBN Validate" is giving me an error when I run it and I can't test if it works because I'm currently out of the country and my temporary SIM provider doesn't support VoLTE.
It's probably nothing and the error is because of the lack of developer files on the ROM but I need people who can test if these profiles act like the flashing from the Qualcomm tool in the thread mentioned above.
So once again if you don't have VoLTE enabled and are feeling a bit courageous - give it a try.
I think the problem maybe for those that changed to Pakistan build on Android 10 and then switched to Singapore ex to get ColorOS 11 and dual SIM meant that things like VoLTE do not work on those builds.
I did it a different way as wasn't bothered about dual SIM. I was on A.46 UK , waited for EU to get ColorOS11 , then switched to EUEX on sec5 and downloaded ColorOS11 c.57 through Belgium VPN.
VoLTE is working for me. it's not present in SIM settings( WiFi calling is) however when I look at my call log there is a VoLTE HD icon next to all my calls, so is working.
Since being on ColorOS11, I have tried several different regions on SEC tool, EUEX dual SIM, Singapore EX, back to GB CPW to check still works and now back to EUEX. Build number always changes to different region in about phone when I have made any changes and check however VoLTE has always remained working for me and is showing as provisioned in engineer mode.
I am from Germany and have a phone with Vodafone FW originally. I switched region to Singapore EX, than installed the Pakistan FW and got C.5 and C.6 via OTA. I switched the region to EUEX (DUAL SIM) and didn't receive the update to C.57, so I switched back to Singapore EX and got the update to C.57 when using VPN Hongkong, which was quite funny.
VoLTE and Wi-Fi calling is working fine with Vodafone, but you can't toggle it in the hidden service menu, it's just active! You can activate or deactivate Wi-Fi calling in the regular settings, but VoLTE is just there, you can't deactivate it.
Both Wi-Fi calling and VoLTE are shown in the bar on the top. With the former Vodafone FW, VoLTE was not shown with an icon, but it was nevertheless working.
Hy here T-Mobile shown volte and Vodafone don't shows but on the status bar there is the volte symbol

I am in the same boat as you. I rebranded to Singapore to get ColorOS 11 update, to use 2 SIM and Call Recording, along with Theme Store, etc.
While on my previous phone (Xiaomi Mi9) I had VoLTE and VoWiFi and my carrier supports them and my SIM has that activated by my carrier, on Oppo Find X2 Pro it seems for them to work is needed special Modem Profile for the concrete carrier you use.
My Carrier is not listed at MBN Test Menu, I tried all the profiles available there, all Commercial ones and all Volte Branded ones and they are not giving me VoLTE and VoWiFi options available in Menu or VoLTE or VoWiFi functionality.
This method used to work on Xioami and Commercial EU Carriers profiles gave me the VoLTE and VoWiFi functionality with just Activity Shortcut access to this menu on Mi9 and simple dialer code to activate VoLTE and VoWiFi switch in Settings.
Oppo Find X2 Pro is not sold officially in my country and by all carriers here and that is why there is no Carrier Volte Profile for carriers from my country and thus it is not possible to activate VoLTE and VoWiFi with other Carrier Profile from MBN Test Menu.
Maybe if we find a way with a Dialer Code or some menu to activate the VoLTE and VoWiFi switch in Settings first this profiles from MBN Test menu will work...
I am out of ideas for now.

I'm pretty sure they force disable most of this stuff with region profiles (/etc/oppoRegion* folders)
At this point I honestly care more about GDPR protection,VoLTE and removing tencent/heytap crap than call recording and theme store which I don't use anyway.
So my plan atm is to wait for Oppo to release android 11 .57 .ozips so that I can flash back to european firmware then I'll see if changing region to EUEX Dual-SIM works and it's limitations.
This method might help people on EU roms with VoLTE, and I'll test it myself in the future, but at least for now *#36446337# lets us adjust MTU, 4G bands and some other smaller network optimizations.
Okay I don't know where to post this but I found *#649010# and this is where it gets into the spooky territory. I never tried toggling any of the options but I think "Full-port switch" option lets us connect our phone to the qualcomm diagnose tool just like the OnePlus phones from the Carrier profiles thread. I'm just documenting this code here so we know we have an alternative to the OnePlus LogKit.apk option in our Oppo phones.

Interesting to find out what these options do.
For some reason, non of these codes work for me now after doing the region change a couple of times.

We keep telling people - you gotta unlock every time you change region and even then the unlock lasts a fixed amount of time ex. 24 hours before it locks itself again

Unfortunately, the tool no longer works for me to unlock, the codes don't work. I'm stuck.

Works for me no issue. Try adding cloudflare dns to your setup, tether your phones connection to your pc while disabling your main connection and adding the number values from the original thread, fiddle with the loopback driver, disable firewall in windows or your router. Everyones connection and setup is different you just gotta find a way to make it work on yours.
Tl;dr it works you just got to tinker with it

I am in the same boat as you. I rebranded to Singapore to get ColorOS 11 update, to use 2 SIM and Call Recording, along with Theme Store, etc.

Did you have the call recording option right after you switched region? I changed to Singapore Ex right after I got the phone, didn't see that option. Then I upgraded to ColorOS11, still did not find that option.

You have to give permissions to 'Recording' app, then open enable it in 'Call Settings'

Do you mean recorder App?
Already given all permission but still no call recording option, and the recorder only has cloud sync on its setting
