Bricked Samsung Tab GT-p1000 after attemting to install CWM recovery - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I followed this tutorial http://www.droidthunder.com/root-install-cwm-recovery-on-galaxy-tab-gt-p1000/#comment-84220 to Install CM 13 ROM on Samsung Galaxy Tab GT-P1000.
I succeffully rooted the device with z4root Android App
I then proceeded to install CWM recovery with Ondin. Although Ondin reports the procedure as Pass, the tablet went into boot loop. It cannot be turned off except for disconnecting the battery.
Is there a way out of this state? I can still put the tablet in Downloading mode.
Thanks for any help.

Hi there,
Normally, when you pull the battery during download mode this will damage the device and you will not turn it on. But anyways can you confirm that you are able to boot the device into download mode.
Sincerely
KIBS2173

I managed to install an original ROM following Overcome guide (after the battery died I managed to put device in download mode and install)
I can now install CWM recovery without a problem. I can also root OK
But I cannot install the CW 13 ROM or any other ROM. I get an error that failed to mount system (invalid argument) and data (no such device) partitions (see attached pictures).
I tried wiping them with TWRP, change the FS back and forth - but all these things fail. It's as if the partitions are somehow locked or protected. Is there any way to fix that?

I had this problem once to. On my HTC Flyer, nothing I could do to recognize the phone. I had to ditch the HTC Driver and tried every copy of the android drive I could find on XDA. I will see if I can find the file that worked for me. But in the interim you may want to try a few.
BTW I am not an expert. This worked for me and it sounds like the same situation to me. :fingers-crossed:
Here's a question: where'd you get the recovery? http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager, i don't see your device as supported. Also, i believe they're called universal naked drivers, that may be of help.

I am not a developer or anything & havent read many forums...but while playing with myTouch I did get stuck a few times.
Somethings I cant point out if u wanna try as a layman:
1. can u mount your sd card through recovery?
2. if you can than just pick another rom for your device and put it onto your sd card
3. wipe data & partition, wipe cache, delete davlik. some devices work ONLY with wipe script (for my friend only the wipe script worked)
4. dont use odin. go to cwm recovery & install zip from sd card & choose the rom (the 1 from step 2).
I think that should get u out safely....hope it helps
@bodh
i actually installed a cwm 5 version
maybe thats the cause of the whole problem
@indiankarmas
i did install multiple roms from the sd card, first cm9 then stock rom
but it doesnt really work
how i fixed the problem:
when i flashed cm9 and used the bootloader with odin to pass the recovery mode my phone booted the stock os
installing from the external sd didnt work, i just wiped my phone for nothing
it booted the stock os, i didnt want this but this made my pc recognize my phone
so i transferred the rom and gapps in the internal sd
got back to recovery mode and installed from internal sd
and used the bootloader again to pass the recovery mode
again, i appreciate you guys trying to help me out

[Q] Apparently can root, apply CWM, flash rom, but doesn't

Hello Everybody,
my boss got me a Galaxy ACE S5830i in order to test some app development and I immediately managed to root it and install a custom ROM.
These were the steps I took
1- I flashed the update.zip I found around the web, for example here -> http://www.theandroidroot.com/root-install-cwm-recovery-samsung-galaxy-ace-s5830i/
2- I flashed CWM 5.0 and immediately, without rebooting, saw the new Recovery. So it really did install!
3- I updated to CWM 6
4- I flashed thunder kernel in order to make the CWM permanent -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2335947
5- I rebooted the phone in recovery mode and got the CWM. Everything was fine up to now
6- I flashed a ROM (after wiping everything). Actually, several roms. I tried first with CGM, then with Aroma and Retribution Beta. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1806471 All of them managed to install but none of them works. What ALWAYS happens is that the ROM installs, then I reboot and the phone does not go past the Samsung Logo. Then, and here we come to the weirdest part, when I reboot in recovery mode in order to flash another rom... I get the stock recovery! No CWM, no customizations!
What's happening, in your opinion? I tried to flash a custom ROM with Odin as well, but being on Linux I had to use JOdin and could not manage to flash anything because (as it ALWAYS happens with JOdin) I was not able to load a suitable PIT file. No success with wine+odin as well.
Please, could somebody help me? I can't use my boss phone, and can't return it to him until I get a working ROM on it
Thank you in advance
P.S. When I get to the Recovery I see some rows to the bottom:
-- Appling Multi-CSC --
E:failed to mount /system (Invalid argument)
E:failed to mount /system (Indalid argument)
and (I know 'cause I tried) I can't mount or format the /system partition. Maybe it's related, maybe it's not...

Hello,
thank you for answering.
I can temporary get to CWM recovery for sure, but I don't know how to push the erase_image file (that I found) to the device. I'm only able to copy files on the SD, using another phone, and then flash them from CWM. Is there a way to make adb able to detect the device even when it's in recovery?
Thank you

Are the ROMs you tried based on CM7/9? Because if they are, you need to format your system partitions to EXT4. You can do that with the multi-formatter.
Also, you say that you have your stock recovery back. Check the ROM zips that you flashed for any boot.img. If there is, check which kernel and which version. Some older kernels still have stock recovery.
As even stock recovery cannot mount /system, clearly your system partitions are corrupt. Format with the multi-formatter and flash a CM7/9 based ROM or flash back stock firmware via Odin.
If you choose the multi-formatter, remember to flash a kernel afterwards. And if you prefer, one with a permanent CWM.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy Tab GT-P1000 weird recovery problems

Hi guys! I have been reading through the post and searching for possible solution to my Galaxy Tab GT-P1000 problem but I cant find any solutions. Here is the story:
I have flashed the GT-P1000 tab with clockworkmod version 6 (i am not sure the exact version) using Odin.
Now after flashing the recovery, I have successfully installed Cyanogenmod 11 (nightly build) and everything was successful and everything is great.
A friend of mine borrowed the tab and he put a pattern to lock the phone, instead of asking him what is the pattern I just decided to wipe the tab again to make a clean install. So what I did was I went to recovery and selected "format /system" which I shouldn't have, then after rebooting it is not booting up to Cyanogen anymore, so what i did was I just wiped everything (format /data, cache and factory reset)
Now this is the weird part, the devices has kept on booting up to clockwork recovery and it says the device is not yet rooted, it is asking me if it is ok to root it, I always selected yes
After another boot up, the clockwork recovery is now version 3.0.0.5??? it is really weird? I never installed any clockwork mod with a lower version... How did that happen?
Now whenever I try to install from sd card or restore it or mount it nothing happens, it just says:
E:Can't mount
E:unknown volume
E:unable process volume! skipping
I tried to flash the recovery again using Odin many times but still the clockwork mod is stuck in version 3.0.0.5.
Right now, I am not sure if my understanding of the entire system is correct:
1. Should I install a new recovery, if yes, how and why is it whenever I am installing it again it is not being installed, it gets stuck to version 3.0.0.5?
2. Are there any other recovery I should use and how should I install it? is it the same as using the Odin?
3. Is there a way to install the original recovery of this tab and then from there I will start over again.
@Battousai1
1. & 2. Find an Odin flashable recovery for p1000... Go to download mode and flash it with Odin...
After doing that you shouldn't have the problem anymore...
3. To install the original recovery find the stock rom which is again Odin flashable ... Flash it and you'll have the stock recovery...

Also when I am in recovery and I went to wipe Calvin cache and data it comes up "are you sure, no OS installed" and then when I do wipe it it's says successful but also unable to mount e/ data, no file or folder found. I am also unable to mount the sd card? Sorry for the long post but I wanted to get all the problems in, thanks fir all your help

So you have the ICS bootloader installed if you followed what I said above. You have to use the ICS TWRP. Use that version to do the procedure you first started with. Restore version 2.3 system, boot and addon, then before reboot the Jellybean bootloader.
Sorry for slow response out of town this weekend.

Trying to recover files from old Android phone?

Plugged in my old Captivate the other day to charge, and when I came back to it, was stuck in CWM. And would not boot into OS. I have some pics and videos I would like to pull off of it. I tried flashing to stock with Odin, but no love. Tried various kernels and CWM's and non of them will mount /sdcard. As far as I know it hasn't been wiped, as everything I've done says it can't mount /sdcard. Thought it was on CM11 but the boot logo looked like CM10.
Have been trying this http://howtorecover.me/data-recovery-internal-storage-android-phone-guide, but I am stuck at the "Making an image of Android internal storage". And not even sure this will work because I have to do everything in Recovery.
Can log into ADB and do some stuff while in Semaphore_KK_3.4.2c with "adb device= 3935DD422FE700EC recovery"
managed to get "list_of_partitions.txt" (attached)
Is there anyway to repair mount without wiping or retrieve my files?

It's a Samsung Captivate sgh-i897, will not boot into OS. Everything I've tried flashing was with Odin. tried a couple one-click stock odin installers. But even those would get blocked by mount error when the phone would reboot to install the OS.

Hi there,
Okay so have you tried using Samsung Keis software it should help you to restore that phone however I'm not sure that you could the recover your old files on that phone but you can try various phone recovering software
Kies won't let me connect through recovery or download. Tried doin factory reset in recovery and that doesn't work either.
Hello,
I am pretty sure that the old Android phone cannot give your data back if you have saved any files after losing old data. New data might have overwritten the previous deleted files and you cannot retrieve them again. But if you have not saved any files after deleting then I must say, you can restore the files using a recovery program (androiddata-recovery.com/android-phone-recovery.php).
Going through this will allow you to get back every data deleted from your old Android phone without any backup. It is easy to use and one of the best reliable software to recover lost files from Android phone.
