Coupon for Ugoos AM6

I'd like to put my money down BUT!
I'd be very interested in one of these devices BUT they must be able to playback all 4K HDR streaming services which are supported on a Nvidia Shield plus the 4K HDR content available on YouTube (Shield doesn't have required codec).
It's simply a shame that the copyright policy (not Android TV certified) and or codec licensing costs are stopping the recent Android devices from showing off their full potential.
I'd even buy a Xiaomi Mi S with its locked bootloader (side loading is allowed) but reviews indicate the dated hardware is poor (hit/miss) at 4K HDR @60Hz playback. I'll just have to stick with my Roku Ultra ($69 CDN) which has no issues with 4K HDR content from any streaming service.
Even the overpriced Nvidia Sheild (2019) tube can at the time of release only support 4K @30fps with it's AI up-scaling tech. A feature that may have justified it's cost compared to these various Chinese streaming boxes.
I'm sure the dam is going to burst soon and Nvidia will pay dearly with lost sales. It's fairly obvious that the hardware is available now. I'm ready to spend money but I need a compelling argument with something substantially better than my Roku Ultra. Note that I'm not a gamer but primarily a 4K HDR home theater user of streaming services.

This box has no GMS license, so security problems do not let streaming apps provide 4k content for these devices, but there a lot of other functions this box can do much better than others on the market. Hope developers will see this and will be able to solve this problem with major streaming apps, but the price will be higher for sure.

Work perfectly

New Firmware for Ugoos AM6, X2 and X3 Models
Most significant update, which is important for users - Brand New Ugoos Remote app!
This service consists of two apps: one is server on your Ugoos device and the second for your Android TV.
In order to activate it, you should proceed: Settings -> X2/X3/Ugoos Settings -> Wireless assistant -> Ugoos Remote. Btw if you prefer our classic Fireasy it is available.
After reboot, Ugoos Remote App will be active and appears in app list, if you open it, you will see status info:
For Remote app you can scan QR code up here on the screenshot or proceed here: https://ugoos.com/public/remote/
Then you need to follow several steps to connect both devices. First, you need to choose what kind of connection you prefer: Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Depends on your choice you need to pair your devices in few easy steps.
After choosing connection type, you will need to find device in a list and connect it.
App connection window and final adjusted app looks like this:

Usb 3.0 port is fake
Very surprised nobody tried USB 3.0 port (marked as OTG): IT DOES NOT WORK.
I explain: if you plug usb 3.0 pendrive when device is running, maybe you will have success… but external 2,5" HDD/SDD won't work. I say more: try to switch off the device, then plug your working-before pendrive and then switch on… IT WON'T BE RECOGNIZED. You will need to unplug and plug again.
Checking internet, this USB port seems to be made to plug temporary and low-power pendrives for debugging or firmware flashing. It is not a daily working USB 3.0 port. So be careful by choosing this device if you need USB 3.0 connection.
BTW, it is not a settings failure: Customer service will give you instructions about how to set them (choosing "host mode" in USB settings) but it seems to be hardware limitation (I guess something related with no power feed on port).
Great device, but with a great mistake too.

Your HDD consuming too much voltage, this USB port is not designed to spin all hard drives, just add additional power and it will be fine. host mode in USB settings is for USB 2.0 which is can be used for debugging and reflashing, not USB 3.0

That's not right. I mean, in same device USB 2.0 has enough power to run these 2.5" HDD/SDD. USB 3.0 should have, at least, same power or even more to accomplish standards.. And USB mode in quick settings (not full settings) is to manage USB 3.0 mode, not USB 2.0 ports. You can read a clear CAS about that: https://medium.com/@prat.saengchan/ugoos-am6-android-tv-box-47f3b933209e
Designers made usb 3.0 port as OTG/Debug/Flashing target, not for customer use. So it has heavy issues with external hard disks as well as they will work without any problem on USB 2.0 ports.
So, again, I aware about it if you intend to buy it.

So again, if your HDD consume too much power you need to use an extra adapter for it. I have used both 2.5 external HDD and 3.5 box external HDD and it works fine for me. But for 3.5 HDD I use extra usb power adapter (like 2 USB from TV Box side and one USB from HDD side).
Your HDD may have some individual incompatibility with those USB 3.0 port, in this way can be the problem

So again, I tell you than same HDD/SDD 2.5"-no-extra-power-requirements (I have many of them) didn't work on USB 3.0/OTG port, but works well on USB 2.0 ports. So, power needs are discarded, because *again* all devices work well on USB 2.0 ports of SAME Ugoos device. Maybe is an issue of my unit, but comments before I posted a discussion with "Nancy" (Ugoos support chat) where they described than OTG port is only for maintenance, not common use. So, that's my post conclusions: USB 3.0 may not work with plugged devices.

As far as I know, USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 hangs on two different lines (power lines and signal lines)
I don't know why this lady said OTG port is only maintenance because there is a switcher settings (Host - OTG) where you can choose how you gonna use it. However, I think you would prefer a much faster USB 3.0 rather than USB 2.0 obviously.
Experience of using this devices shows that different HDD works different, but I found out that cheaper external cases sometimes make HDD "ticking" but on my laptop is working well. So I found out that using extra power cable may help with this. ( so such HDDs both work with laptop and TV Box) Also better external HDD cases helps with that kind of problems in TV Boxes (better power consumption).

Finally found the bug: You did the point on this last explanation and it was an unlucky combination of hard disk (Toshiba 1TB 2,5") and external case (Ugreen 3.0 Type-C plug). Tested both of them with different pairs worked well, but that combination failed.
On my tests I never plugged off changing devices and that's another effect: it remains some kind of unstable state that makes failed tests with other hard drives and pendrives, even if you reboot or shutdown (blue led). Now I have learned that when this device has drive failure you must shutdown and switch off power some seconds to flush electrical charge after plugging other devices. If not, you may have false fails.
This is a great TV box with great hardware, but I think it lacks with USB power. And another big fail: 32-bit Android? Seriously!?
Anyway, thanks a lot for your comments. It helped me for finding the problem and learning about this device. I hope XDA developers community take a look at this device and try to expand all of its potential. I know there are some custom ROMs over there, but they are mods of official one and based on 32 bit architecture. I dream with a pure-64bit ROM that puts this device in another level.
(Btw last update includes Magisk and other user desired improvements. That's a great step for something more and demonstrates Ugoos don't forget to make updates.)

Hello,
perhaps a little outdated: I got a UGOOS AM6XX box that runs CoreElec. I understand it should be able to boot into Android 9 as well by choice but I can't see a boot menu, however.
I could use a little how-to. Seems there is nothing such from the manufacturer :-(
Could anybody give me a hint please?
Best regards,
Phil

Switch back to Android system you also can from power menu in main dialog window in CoreElec system. You need to choose “reboot from eMMC/NAND” function.

Micro usb audio connector

Is it possible to use the micro USB audio connector for audio? After rooting, the audio application of the android does not recognize the mp3 files to play. Why not let it do so?
I think that would require USB host mode like on the Samsung galaxy. I think that means needing extra hardware doesn't it? -otherwise I would expect every phone to be capable of it
edit: It is possible but you can fry stuff. Info on NookColor forum
USB host = great possible enhancement?
I wanted to post to proper thread, however I am new here I was not allowed to post on developers forum. So I hope that this post will still somehow find its way there. It also includes your original question.
Since some USB features are now claimed to be working, I wanted to ask directly poping out questions:

2.) connect USB soundcard like: http://www.usbgear.com/computer_cable_details.cfm?sku=USBG-X2X&cats=121&catid=121%2C136%2C134
To allow listening mp3, Skype calls.... ?
3.) connect USB Ethernet card like: http://www.usbgear.com/205528.html
4.) to connect other cool usb stuff like: GSM, printers ... whatever
thanks you developer guys, I hope I'll once manage some time to learn more about the system and developement so that I could contribute too !

Currently the answer to all of the above is no
The USB host mode patch was done for a specific project (USB keyboard support) and while I have been spending some time playing around with Bluetooth I'm not aware of any other dev(s) working on expanding this atm.
Stuff like audio, networking and Bluetooth requires _a_lot_ more than just the kernel accepting to communicate with the device.
thats shame. allowed skype calls would be great
Skype calls are working on my nook with OTG + USB audio card on usb host mode. But it is a bit difficult ))).
To update these older posts:
Yes, it is possible to disable the soft keyboard when using a USB keyboard.
See NullKbd in the signature.
Yes, Skype works fine.

Where is the difficulty?
Do a logcat and look for overruns and errors.
There were a few mods done to make Skype work.
so an external usb sound card is working?
Yes, an external USB audio adapter can work.
As a portable solution it's a bit cumbersome.
I don't know what current they usually draw, but my cheapy one draws 75 mA.
A desktop solution with powered hub (charging the Nook), a USB adapter and speakers works fine.
Would USB headphones work directly on that port? I have USB OTG cable and some USB sound card somewhere so I can check with regular 3.5mm jack headphones without trouble when I find some time to do it but I just wonder if anyone tried USB headphones on it and what they think of it. Is it worth of a hassle to buy one for NST?
Some USB devices use a multiplexor on the USB micro connector and can send actual analog audio down the connector.
Many Androids support USB host mode and can support an audio USB adapter, including the ones that go for < $10.
The NST (earlier Nooks with OMAP processors) don't have complete software support for USB host mode but can be coerced into working.
The Glows (later Nooks with IMX processor) don't have complete software or hardware support for USB host mode but can be coerced into working.
The Glow4 (7.8") has audio.

[Q] Android & Ethernet / USB 3.0 / eSATA. Is it possible?

What I ask myself is weakly present.
Interested in whether it is possible to have a android device (for example for SoC Nvidia Tegra 3 (a forthcoming) or the Samsung Exynos 4210) which will operate the hardware decoding, gigabit ethernet, USB 3.0 (or at least 2.0), eSATA and output image and sound HDMI, and if you play in a certain application on the device will contain the content source encoded in DTS, DTS-HD, DD, DD TrueHD sound, in the same encrypted transfer it to a device on the other side of HDMI cable (passthrough)?
Device about which I'm not there, it is conditional, in fact the question is whether it is possible to create such a device. While on the Internet seen such devices. Among them, of course, none of them had all of the above, but there was some support for Ethernet, USB, HDMI, but how it works there I do not know.
There are currently about USB and Ethernet I imagine this case was this: on-board controllers are soldered above-mentioned interfaces, after which the linux drivers for these controllers is compiling android .. right?
P.S. sorry for my and google translate english =)

Working host USB devices?

Hi all. Just wanted to know what external devices people have got to work on their Mini Pro's through a USB host cable.
I'm running the bog standard Sony ICS ROM 4.0.4 (Build number 4.1.B.0.431)
So far I have got the following working:
Logitech Cordless Optical Mouse - P/N:831383-0000
Apple Wired Optical Mouse - M/N:M5769
Dell Wired Keyboard - Model:RT7D50
What doesn't work:
Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 - P/N:X802611-008
Freecom 32GB USB Databar
Integral 16GB USB Data stick
SmartDisk USB floppy disk drive - Model:FDUSB-TM2
Gemplus Smartcard reader - P/N:HWP108760 B
ADMtekUSB 2 Ethernet - M/N:UE-120
It would be good to get a full listing, and if any coders are able to get some of the non-working devices to work would be great.

If you have a stock Xperia ICS firmware your mobile phone will not work as USB host.
It will work as USB host if you rooted it, and have installed the required kernel modules and you use the USB OTG Helper app (you can find modules in the second post of USB OTG Helper thread).
If you already have the modules and the helper, it's sad to hear that no storage device you tested is working

USB DAC's / ALSA / snd-usb-audio / USB sound card

This is something that android needs. USB DAC support.
I've been doing research and have compiled my own kernel for testing. There is something called the Advanced Linux Sound Architecture which has USB sound card support. However, when enabling this on a kernel I compiled, it seems Android totally ignores it. Once more, when I try to activate the module using the command modprobe snd-usb-audio it just completely fails.
When I plug my device in, I can see that the system is recognizing the device in proc/asound and sys/bus/USB/devices/2-1 and also dev/snd
The wiki https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Alsa#Making_sure_the_sound_modules_are_loaded also tells me that everything is OK in dev/snd
The only chance to get this working is to use asoundconf somehow. I have no idea how to do this.
In my opinion, Android totally needs USB sound card support standardized on all Stock kernels and ROMS so that its users can use USB sound card's (USB DAC'S) as they wish.
There are other sites which have mentioned USB DAC support on Android and they may be useful for further research:
http://www.head-fi.org/t/595071/and...w-to-increase-the-issues-priority-with-google - Page 6 onwards seems interesting

http://code.google.com/p/android/is...&colspec=ID Type Status Owner Summary Sta rs - Please star this issue
I have to say, USB Audio support for Jelly Bean was a massive dissapointment since the DAC has to support the ADK. When I tried my standard DAC with Jelly bean, it did not work.
I just wish more custom kernels could support this and wish Google would support it too.

External USB DAC use from Android GT-i9250?
Hi There,
I am interested if you had any developments here with external USB DAC?
I have the Galaxy GT-i9250 and I would love to play music (44/16 or 96/24) files through an external USB DAC such that I bypass the phones internal DAC. Are there any advancements?
If so, how do I do it and what external DAC's do you recomend?
Thanks,
Asif.

Unfortuantly, USB DAC functionality still seems to be severely limited despite support in Linux.
Many Developers focus on optimising a kernel for a specific ROM rather than adding features to the kernel to add functionality such as USB DAC's. I too would like support from developers to bring this forward as there are just a few devices out of hundreds of Android devices with some sort of USB DAC functionality as mentioned in previous posts. I also know that the Samsung Galaxy S3 has limited but native support for some USB DAC's.
I would recommend getting a popular USB DAC device because it would probably be a higher priority to developers to support. (because it would have more users).
From what I understand, USB DAC isn't a hard feature to implement. The problem lies in the fact that not enough people are asking for this functionality at the moment to develop it, beta test it and subsequently implement it.
Maybe, some time in the future (near future, I hope) we can enjoy this as a feature on our Android devices.

Hi !
Any news about it ?
We are sooo much to wait for this !!
Please devs, add it in your kernels !!
Very interesting. I have tried to enable CONFIG_SND_USB_AUDIO=y and CONFIG_USB_AUDIO=y, But it does not work.
Waiting for other Idea.
Few updates
I have a few updates here.
It appears that my HTC One X running Android Revolution HD 13.0 (Jelly Bean) has the drivers and loaded modules for snd_usb_audio. And when I plug my USB DAC into it. It recognizes it and automatically directs sound to it. This is good.
I've dived into why it works on the HTC One X and not on my Xoom and come across a folder called /proc/asound
This folder is to do with the ALSA (Advanced Linux Sound Architecture) and when I plug my USB DAC into my One X, it creates a folder called 'Headset' (since my USB DAC is a headset).
I've found folders named "snd_usb_audio" (or similar) in the following folder locations:
/sys/bus/usb/drivers/snd-usb-audio
/sys/module/snd_usb_audio
I just don't know how to add this gory stuff into another android device. This is what Im trying to do.
Im going to compile a kernel in the next few days to see if I get anywhere.
I have SGS3 and i tried to connect my old M-Audio Duo USB sound card via USB. The phone plays music thru it, but Inputs of the sound card is not recognized, phone still records by build in mics.
What i really need is portable stereo mic attached by USB for my phone so i can make studio quality recordings with it. Something like tascam did for iPhone:
http://tascam.com/product/im2/
If anybody knows some solution please post it here!
Same here, output works on my One X but not input. That's another key barrier to overcome.

If you'll figure out a way to make inputs work via usb that would be revolutionary development for android. I wounder why major companies didn't develop some device like that so far. There's demand for it obviously.
I badly want to see this feature figured out and added to CM10. I flashed drewgaren.com's JB TouchWiz rom last night just to get this feature, and I'm already sorely missing CM10.
I would be positively thrilled to see movement towards implementing this feature outside TouchWiz, would be delighted to help test it, and would even throw money at someone who could get it done for us.

If anyone knows the ROM on which both Input and output (or at least input) from the soundcart works thru USB, please let me know.

A USB audio source code:

USB audio & Android
USB standard (audio, mass storage, etc.) driver supported on stock Galaxy S3 / Note2
"As long as the kernel on the Android device supported the USB standard driver of the hardware (mass storage, input, etc.), Android would be able to use it and therefore open up a new range of extra devices compatible with the system."
USB standard (audio, mass storage, etc.) driver not supported:
* Developing your USB standard (audio, etc.) driver at the kernel space
"However, there are many devices that have not been "compatible" from the beginning. For instance, let's say your common RFID reader. It most likely uses a USB-serial port and probably comes with a Linux or Windows driver as well as some software. Most Android tablets will come without the USB-serial driver for your RFID reader however.
Therefore, if you want to load your driver you will need to root your tablet, determine the version of your current kernel, find the kernel sources online, hope that everything compiles to have your driver ready and then load it onto your tablet. In the end, when you finally have your kernel driver running, you will be required to write C code as well as some JNI glue to communicate with your Activity or Service in Android.
All in all, this approach is not very straightforward.
* Writing your own USB "soft driver" at the user space
There is a very elegant solution to aforementioned problem.
It requires far less skills in hacking and porting than the mentioned approach. However, you will require some advanced knowledge in Android programming as well as some USB know-how.
You can write your own "soft driver" in Android. Since the USB Host API has been released, it is now possible to communicate with any USB device using the most commonly seen USB transfers (control, interrupt, bulk).
In the end, your result will be portable across all Android devices that have USB host enabled and have Android version 3.1+. Moreover, this solution does NOT require root access to the tablet or phone. It is currently the only viable solution that does not require the user to have any know-how of rooting/hacking the device and risk losing warranty in the process."

I see that both the Android compatible DACs (V-MODA VAMP VERZA, XDUOO XP-1) and the USB Audio Recorder PRO app supports nearly the same devices.
Other than that I hear that the requirements are:
USB Host (Basically almost every newer device can do this)
USB OTG Cable (Who worries about a cable?)
1. Is this because of simply the CONFIG_USB_AUDIO parameter set to false? Shouldn't a mod like CyanogenMod enable this?
2. Or because V-MODA VAMP VERZA, XDUOO XP-1 are the only USB DACs to support the ADK interface in Jelly Bean ?
3. What exactly is the difference between the Verza, XDUOO and the other DACs? Why wouldn't any DAC be compatible through USB Audio in the linux kernel ?
I really wish to lift my Samsung Galaxy S2 sound quality, and I am ready to spend the money to make it sound good. But the Verza is too expensive for me and has few other outputs and inputs so I doubt the reuse for the crazy price. I simply can't trust XDUOO before they make an english website, god knows what will happen on warranty issues!

I didn't expect that. However, someone has got it working with their FiiO E17 --http://www.head-fi.org/t/595071/android-phones-and-usb-dacs/2415#post_9485365 ..
Do you have i9505 or i9500 ?
And what ROM? latest stock?

Does your Vamp Verza work with your Galaxy S4 using USB Audio Recorder PRO?
There is a free trial version of USB Audio Recorder PRO?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.extreamsd.usbaudiorecorderpro
"From what I understand, USB Audio Recorder Pro app allows higher quality recordings to be played in their true hi-res quality because it bypasses a 16-bit/48kHz limitation in Android kernel. (The DX100 also does that with the iBasso software.) All other apps downsample to 16/48 before passing the signal to the external DAC like the Apex Glacier.
Besides that, I also find the app to output very natural sound. So I used the app quite a bit when I am in the mood for the best quality."

Tried with audio pro, it does not work too. S4 shv300S 8 core exynos latest 4.2.2 updated last week in Seoul.

[Q] MK809III TV Stick and usb hub

Hi all, I have a MK809III tv stick with Android 4.4.2 running. I use it as a mini PC with a LCD screen. I have attached to its USB OTG ports a quadrate 2.0 4 ports USB HUB (google for this and you can see it) , and connected to it, a PS/2 keyboard (using an usbtoPs2 adapter), an usb mouse, a usb ethernet dongle, and a usb sound card dongle. When I use this combo, all works fine, the mouse can drag and select, also wheel works, the keyboard works fine, the ethernet run smooth, and the sound works as player and mic recorder, the only thing not works is to reboot the tv stick, and launch android again (with other MK89III tv stick this also works flawlessly), to get this, I must to unplug RJ45 or usb ethernet. But this last question is not my main problem. The main problem is that I can not make the combo work anyway if I change usb hub model, If I use a 2.0 usb square hub (no name brand) with a little blue led installed, all works fine, but using other hub (I have tested two others), thare is no way to work. The main situation is that the hub stops work, and all item connected not works at all. But commonly, mouse works with a bad behaviour in button response, usb sound disconnects suddenly, or usb ethernet lagg or not works at all. My question is about this behaviour with usb hubs, if there is a special requirements in hardware to match an usb hub with this kind of android devices, or if thare are some drivers that can solve this.
Thank in advance.
Solved
I have solved the two main problems in order to use my MK809III RK3188 as a mini pc with usb hub and rj45 ethernet. The hub must to be a chip on board one, no an all-in-one glued ultra-cheap type, this is a mark of better quality and response, then you can conect keyboard/mouse, usb or ps2 with usb converters, usb sound, and usb pendrives. The ethernet must be an ASIX AX88772C, this a true usb ethernet 100mbps (7MB/s real) device, since I use it there is no lag, no boot errors, no delays or shorts in Tx/Rx. That´s all.
