Try Alpha build apps from Miui 11 Now. - Xiaomi Mi 8 Themes, Apps, and Mods

Miui 11 Apps Updated August 19
Hello, I downloaded from the Xiaomiui telegram group and tried them out. These updates provide some nice improvements so I decided to share with you guys, and I had planned to provide extensive details on each app. However, I found a few web pages that have already given great descriptions. So I will just add those links below.
The Drive download is on my personal Google drive and the Screenshots were taken on my Mi8 so rest assured that these apps work and the download links are safe. In addition, according to the XiaomiMiui telegram group these apk's were optimized specifically for the Mi8.
Try at your own risk
I have tested these apps and they work fine on the most recent custom Miui OS, Mi-Globe and on Xiaomi EU roms. I am not sure if they will work on the stable builds. Although, I haven't had any issues try at your own risk, especially if your bootloader is still locked. However, I seriously doubt that anyone would experience issues that a restore wouldn't solve.

August 19 update,
I have been using this updated apps for a few weeks: With the latest Xiaomi EU build an additional feature was activated within the Security battery savings section: The option to use Extreme battery savings which allows you to choose 9 apps and everything else is disabled. This function apparently allows the battery to last for 12 days on 1 charge! So far after trying my phone with extreme battery mode enabled and using my phone quite a bit, I lost only 4% in over 4 hours of use, see screenshots in my post down below.
Summary of Improvements...so far.
AOD : Massive improvements with many changes, I highly recommended trying this one.
Read more here: https://www.yusufjacks.com/how-to-enable-always-on-display-on-miui-device-download/
Security : Again a lot of improvements especially with battery details
Gallery : additional editing features, including the novel change the sky feature ( Note the apk on my drive is more updated than what is offered on this page, the version on my drive is all inclusive) There is no need to restart the device.

Miui 11 Launcher alpha build with app drawer and 3D touch. ( I have not tried this launcher because I use Smart Launcher pro and nothing ( including Nova) will ever compare to it. More details here: https://www.getdroidtips.com/download-miui-11-launcher-apk-with-app-drawer-and-shortcuts/

Thanks, really appreciate what you do on these forums, but unfortunately I'm having a struggle to download them. Keep coming up with error, or download size is 0. Have tried via drive and chrome browser on phone.

Can I install those apks normally or do I need to do some system modifications before installing them?

I just tried downloading them myself on two phones and did see the same issue. However, after trying it a couple of additional times it will finally download.
I will upload the apps to my Megadrive, to provide another link for people who can't download.

The apps are still uploading so maybe wait about 10 minutes for full access

Wha is the decryption key for the mega link ??

Thank you for the uploading again. I have successfully downloaded and installed, but I don't get any extra themes in the Always On Display. I am running MIUI Global Stable 10.3.4, not Miglobe or Xiaomi.eu.

some times ago i used latest stable chines rom, with new launcher alpha version dont know which one, and it was option to chose how home screen you want, original, stock miui or with app drawer.
why we cant have such option with this after miui home system apks?

Hello, I installed the AOD new apk but in the menu still the old interface's. With shortcut maker I can run the app with new interface's but even if I apply new ones still they won't be shown. Any advice?

I am also using the latest Xiaomi EU beta build and all of the apps work for me. Are you rooted?
FYI: the new extended battery savings mod allows the phone to get 12 days of battery on 1 charge. But it strictly limit the phone to using only basic functions such as phone calls, contacts, calendar etc.

Yep, I am rooted. I can manage to run the app by shortcut maker but whatever I select there is not changing. In the menu under AOD settings I have still the old ones.

I have no idea why its not working for you. As far as I know it works for a lot of people. But I will see if I can find a newer versions of the files and I will post them.
For me it works so well that I can even back it up to MiCloud and when I restore my backup, everything restores with the beta versions of those various apps. In addition, I installed these apps on my parents phones and they were originally on Mi-Globe then I switched them to Xiaomi EU and the updates migrated.
As I mentioned I even have the system battery savings mode working and its blow your mind amazing! For example, I used my phone for a solid 2 hours today and only chipped away no more than 3% of the battery. ( Granted I did nothing intensive such as watching videos) In battery saving mode you can choose to use up to 9 apps
Check back later, if I find updates I will let you know.

Okay, I check or updates and found a couple. Also, since these apps are working on my phone I extracted AOD and the security app from my phone using an APK extractor program.
I posted the updated files here Note that there are 3 different versions of the security app, Try my extraction first because it works flawlessly for me

Minimalistic MIUI Rom ?

This is a request if someone can make a minimalistic rom, preferably for the SNapdragon version (both would be even better)
This rom preberaly runs on a custom kernel tweaked to have less logging and a minimalistic approach.
It should have only the minimal software needed for the hardware to function, the rest could be an optional flash package where one could choose what they need, this will not only help run the phone cool and smooth but also improve the spectacular battery life.
this rom if built on the global beta could have root built in , since bootloader would be unlocked to flash this rom.
Thoughts anyone ?
Nice idea! I also have the feeling MIUI is too bloated and that too many unnecessary services are active. I hope someone would consider this idea and if someone misses any functions, they should be able to flash a zip file or select the functions via an AROMA installer when you first install the rom.

Wish you luck, unlocking the bootloader officialy is indeed quite the hassle. Hope they fix the problems with mi flash unlock tool some day. I'll try to help you out when I can unlock the bootloader as well.
I also would like to see some slim version, especially one that doesn't consume too much ram.
The lightest edition I've found until now are the xiaomi.eu roms (around 620MB zip).
Sent from my Redmi Note 3 using XDA-Developers mobile app
thanks for that , it seems the xiaomi.eu roms are based on the latest CHina beta with all the chinese stuff removed, waiting for my bootloader to be unlocked. this seems like the best bet to use on the phone.

I didn't notice too big difference. It's faster, leaves more free ram and has more international languages. Bloatware removed.

Best rom for stability and most vanilla android experience

For ages I have tried to avoid rooting my phone, mainly due to Google Pay. But with the constant issues and also now that I've just purchased bPay for my watch anyway, I no longer need Google Pay.
Even though my phone is not rooted, most apps thought it was.. so even the fixes only worked so far.. so screw it. haha.
I would like to root my phone and try and make my Xiaomi as close to vanilla Android as possible. What roms would people suggest?
Is the Xiaomi a wise phone to modify? Will I loose any features (camera etc)?
I have only really ever used OnePlus One devices, and other phones I have always relied on Google Pay access, so its been awhile since I rooted a phone and I have a feeling things may have changed a fair bit.. maybe even become more simple?
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.
My device; Mi 8 128GB, chinese import. Arrived with unlocked bootloader and global rom.. somehow.. even though global wasnt available at the time.. have since has xiaomi.eu rom, most recent on the device. But im finding its waaay to buggy and im very eager to get rid of this.
try pixel experience
stock experience like the pixel 3 xl
almost the same camera if not better
great battery life stable and way smoother than miui 10
I was In a similar predicament
I went for havoc and find its fantastic
Similar to pixel experience but with more added features
Has gcam implemented already

pixel experience rom has everything that a pixel phone has including the amazing gcam
Use syberia! aosp based like all but best battery so far
You can try pixel experience, I'm using it for a while now and never thought of changing to another rom. This will be my permanent rom I guess. Pixel3ROM is also nice, but it's just a port so the dev heavily refuses to add compatibility features like IR camera support for face unlock etc. So main features of the device won't work kn that one.
LineageOS is just another option, but it feels so empty compared to Pixel Experience. Yes, it can be customized but it'll never get the capabilities of Pixel Experience, due to official Rom policies of LOS.
And another thing, my device is rooted and I'm using PE, and Google Pay is working.

About camera, it hss a Google Camera port that I can't really remember the name of dev, and you can flash the miui camera port from Magisk if you need that either.
If you have any questions about this rom, I'd love to answer them, I can consider myself as an experienced user of it I guess. I used miui for 2 weeks thanks to bootloader unlock timer, and believe me, when you switch, you will feel like tons of weight just pulled out of your shoulders.
Thanks everyone this is all really helpful to know. Sounds like Pixel Experience is the one to try first.

This is really handy to know. I was thinking today that maybe rooting etc my phone myself properly would give me better control over getting that set up to work properly.
One more thing, just checking over the instructions and a little lost on some bits;
Flash Instructions
1. Download ROM zip.
2 . Advanced Wipe: System, Data, Cache and Dalvik/cache - Already have TWRP from installing Xiaomi.eu rom.
3. Flash latest MIUI or Xiaomi.eu beta. - This step confuses me.. if I already have a xiaomi.eu rom installed, I presume I would skip this?
4. Flash Pixel Experience.
5. Flash Dm-verity and reboot into TWRP (Only if you're coming from MIUI stock. Skip that if you're coming from another custom ROM) - Guessing again, I would skip this as I am already on TWRP? Unsure what dm-verity is..
6. Advanced Wipe: Data
7. Reboot & enjoy.
Some background on the current config phone wise. Imported a Mi 8 before it was released globally, nor even a date was released at that point. The phone arrived with global rom I believe.. the bootloader was already unlocked however and it was in English, so I am unsure how they had the global rom on it.. unless was the chinese one in English? Eitherway. I just followed the usual guide to flashing Xiaomi.eu on the phone. TWRP was already on it, but it is a chinese version, in english, but with chinese text on the loading screen.. unsure if normal?
Thanks again!

You can't skip the 3rd step since you're wiping the system partition, vendor and/or firmware files will be gone, which are not included with the rom.
At 5th, https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/universal-dm-verity-forceencrypt-t3817389 After flashing this, reboot to recovery in order to do advanced wipe. Just follow the steps, don't be lazy!
Not sure about your phone, but there are a high chance of being a Chinese variant of your phone, check the rear glass for CE certificate logo, if there are any chinese text, your phone is a chinese variant. In this situation, be careful to not lock your bootloader.

When I got the phone there was a sticker on the back which was in Chinese, all the packaging was too. The text printed on the phones actual case is in English however.
Update: All done and all was a success. Thanks everyone!
Tried Pixel Experience - battery drain was so extreme had to flash another rom..
So now trying Havoc.. way too many bugs, no sound on alarms, phone stops responding to touch.. ergh. Battery is good though.. haha.
Looking like there may not be any rom which isnt free of bugs or battery drain on the Mi 8..
Sadly Google Pay, with Magisk and hide, does not work on any rom. Altho I managed to get another banking app to work by using Magisk hide ironically.

+1 that. Everything works perfect for me on AOSIP and I've been using it as my daily driver for a week now.

Download speed is very slow, 30min left and the big question.
Can i flash this o my global version of Mi Note 10? (locked bootloader - 3 day left to unlock) Will not brick my phone ?
How to install MIUI 12 onto Xiaomi devices?
Download the MIUI 12 OTA update or Recovery zip file from above.
Transfer the update zip to phone storage in the root directory. Meaning, outside every folder. If that doesn’t work, place the file in the folder ‘download_rom’.
Launch the updater app on your Xioami phone. Or go to settings > about phone > system updates.
Click on three dots on the top right corner and choose “Choose Update package”
If “Choose Update package” option desn’t show up, tap on the MIUI icon several times and check again.
Select the MIUI 12 ROM package from phone storage.
Your phone should reboot and update process will begin.
Once done, reboot to system.
Note: Don’t stop the update once started. If stopped, you will need to do the operation again right from downloading the firmware file again. This will not erase any data in your phone.
Not sure if we need some kind of Beta tester account to use that ? I will se

How's it going. Were you on global ROM before the update? Any noticed improvements on MIUI 12 ? I'm going to try the update today but I won't bother if it's not worth it. Installing banking apps and other apps again is looooooooong.
Installation Update: You need a custom TWRP recovery installed on your Android device to flash the above MIUI 12 ROMS.

some times it will lock stupidly but just turn the screen off and on again to be able to resume its functions another bug that you will find is that of the contacts will not allow you to import the contacts from your Google mail so before switching to the MIUI 12 version a VFC file in which you will have saved all your contacts and download it to Google Drive so that you can recover it later

also there are other small bugs that will probably be solved on the 3rd one of which is the use of the magisk to get root permissions when I installed it Automatically the operating system crashes

On the other hand, fingerprint and go back to working perfectly And if it is not pleasant to deal with an operating system that speaks only English or Chinese Anyway you can adapt Also I advise you to immediately download the Google keyboard and if possible add to the language of our country so that you have absolutely no translation problems

Can you tell us more abou the control center? How do you open? Is it instead of quick toggles? Anything else? Any customization?
You can send a video.
Installed fine, it can be used on daily basis.
Worked just fine with Magisk 20.4.
Installed Google Services using the MIUI Store itself, with that little trick.
Thanks a lot!
So, you use a custom recovery... Like i referred in the article

(MOD) Center Clock Mod - Magisk Module - Android 11

Hi all,
One of the things that was missing for me was the center clock.
The void in the middle needed to be filled so here you have a module to place the clock smack in the middle, it's not off center like previous mods, this one is as it should be.
Flashing always at your own risk, please read all instructions before flashing, module has been tested and is working on the latest android 11 BA running OOS, untested on non OOS ROM's
NOTES
-----------------
This will cause issues with android auto!
Does not work on Android 10
Confirmed working on Android 11 open beta 2
Confirmed working on Android 11 open beta 3
Confirmed working on OB4
Confirmed working on stable 11.0.2.2
Installation
-------------------
Pre-requisites
Rooted Oneplus 8 Pro
Android 11 Stable
Magisk Manager
Installation instructions
1. Download the module from here:
11.0.0 https://mega.nz/folder/OB8hXYqK#4hVILxDw-K7EKemL3FDNwQ

11.0.5.5
the module for 4.4 seems to be working fine for 5.5
If you have issues then disable it, reboot, re-enable then reboot and test.
11.0.6.6
2.51 MB folder on MEGA
mega.nz
11.0.7.7
Use the 0.6.6 version, it reloaded first time for me, i don't believe they changed OPSystemUI.apk so it's probably the exact same apk.
11.0.8.8
2.51 MB folder on MEGA
mega.nz
11.0.9.9
As this is only Octobers security update you can continue to use 11.0.8.8 thanks @mac796 for clarifying functionality.
11.0.10.10
Again no changes to OPSystemUI.apk so the previous release will continue to work on this version
2. Copy to your phones storage
3. Open Magisk and select the modules icon
4. Click "Install from storage"
5. Navigate to the downloaded folder and choose the zip inside.
6. Allow it to complete and then reboot.

Troubleshooting
------------------------------
Magisk module failure.
This works for any magisk module failure.
1. Power off your phone by holding the power button, then turn it back on.
2. As your phone gets to the bootloader warning screen, press and hold volume up and down and continue to hold until the phone shows the boot animation.
3. You'll boot to safe mode, simply reboot once more.
4. On next boot all your magisk modules will be disabled, remove the problematic module and re-enable the functional ones.
Original mod made by
11-11.0.2.2
@Tulsadiver & @dianoandr tested by myself, absolutely massive thanks to them for this.
11.0.4.4 and onwards made by myself, original pixel version by Tulsadiver
REQUESTS
----------------
I can maybe do requests, but they won't be a priority and if i don't have the device, you will have to provide me the files required and give me the android version you're on, OS and you'll be testing too.

I don't have an easy route to 11.
I'm on a Sprint\Tmo OP8.
I don't have Local Upgrade.
OTA disabled due to root and Tmo hasn't finished A11 anyway.
I'm hoping someone will make a A11 full rom to flash via TWRP to get me there

I have to MSM back to stock? Then convert via fastboot? Idk... Very confusing reading it all.
Or I'm just too dense.

Lol nah it's worrying doing these things but it's not usually as hard as you think.
Get it planned out before hand, I've rebranded before, on the p20 pro and I think a few HTC devices.
You'd be hard pushed to brick a OnePlus phone tbh.
But you're right to be careful. Just make a back up first.

So persist and boot is fine. But you probably won't be needing any of them.
As for the rest of it, backing up via twrp is one thing but at the point there ain't a functional copy of twrp for 11.
So backing up to twrp might not be the best idea.
I got out all my pics, vids, music, synced contacts with an account (Google) or sync everything to Google (I don't mean a back up as a single image, that's your choice)
Apps I would make a titanium back up of.
Then theres pretty much nothing left.
Copy all the titanium files out, that'll serve you well when you're ready to restore.
Then head down the rebranding route..
I'm not great with changing variant but I would back up also maybe your EFS partition if that's still a thing (IMEI's) just because of the networks hold on things, I can't think of anything else you could lose out on..
I'll check out the rebranding guides and see if I can make easier sense of it for you.

Sadly some games and streaming apps like amazon prime display below the front canera....the result is a black bar just till the front camera
The notchkiller mods solved that issue but none of them working on android 11 so i was just asking if there any compatible version of the mod
Earlier netflix had this problem too but now they have solved it.

There's a feature to change screen in android 11.
Plus you have the cut out option in display.

[CLOSED] Rick's Rom DUB5 SM-N986U1 Snapdragon Safe Update To One UI 3.1

First, I am not responsible to what happens after you flash this. If your phone dose not work afterwords it is your own doing. I didn't force you to flash it..
This is a stock rom for the most part for the Snapdragon Note 20 Ultra U1 that I use as my daily driver. I disabled file encryption, removed knox, fixed screen cast and shealth plus Bluetooth and smartwatch pairing. Most of the Google apps are uninstallable. I'll try to keep this up to date every month the best I can. Enjoy.
You Must Have A Unlocked Bootloader and a SM-N986 U1 or U Ultra to proceed. This Might Wipe Your Data!! Make a Back up!!.
Instructions:
1: Flash with Odin in the respective slots (bl, ap, cp and csc).
2: Wipe and format data in recovery if coming from a different rom or android version.
3: Reboot and set it up.
Enjoy.
See this thread or this thread if you need a unlock. The teams there are great!
Built With SuperR's Kitchen
Thanks @afaneh92 for the unlock and TWRP
Thanks @bklyn_syed for sharing the fixes for Bluetooth and shealth.

Thanks I built it last night.
Anyone who downloaded this before this post please re-download the rom. I had a file mixed up with another rom by mistake, sorry. New files are uploading now. Please report any problems you may have if any, Thanks.
I uploaded some a new build that addresses the game launcher crash and theme store crash.
@Misterxtc Very glad to see more custom roms being built.
Would you be able to build an AOSP rom for the Note 20 Ultra (SM-986U)?
Would love to see an AOSP rom like Lineage OS or Havoc OS

I don't think so but I'm really not sure, I haven't looked into it. The big deal for me is downloading more firmware, keeping track of more files, storage space and time. Honestly it's pretty simple to build your own. You can get all the info you need for that here .

I was sitting here debating on whether to go with 10 or 11 lol. Durrr me...I'm all for a custom cleaned up ROM any day over the untouched stock firmware. I see that your ROM is on the latest 11 (CUA1). Nice!
Since your tweaking the universal U1 firmware and since there isn't any carrier bloatware in there, is there much to really remove to make it even more lean and lighter? I know in the old days those firmware's were loaded with bloat and by removing them helped it a lot.
I also noticed that the latest 11 file size was smaller than the latest 10. From what you can see is that from just making 11 more efficient, thus making it lighter?
Regarding the change log:
Disabled File Encryption - Is that for the entire device file encryption or the built in folder encryption that was disabled? What are the benefits from disabling this? Does it just make it smoother even if you don't use the encryption feature on the device?
Removed Knox - Does using a smart watch to use Samsung Pay etc... still a work around even with the device knox removed?
Are there any settings to be able to tweak camera settings to improve the camera? iirc back in the Note 3 and 4 days, a Dev said that there was a value in the image quality or something that was set to I think 8 instead of the max 10? He had maxed that out and included that in the ROM... I'm curious if such adjustments exist in the 11?
Does the CUA1 have the baked in Microsoft Swiftkey (VIRUS) or is that only on carrier firmware's?
I have the Unlocked varaint of the Note 20 Ultra straight from Samsung. Oddly, it came with firmware ATGO, which is ATT lol.. but I'm on TM. What has been annoying is that I can't uninstall the darn microsoft swiftkey.
I love Swiftkey as a keyboard (best touch accuracy IMO), but despise the intrusivemness, so I like to use my own tweaked swiftkey with the internet premissions removed w/ using AFWall+ to block everything else. ie...
The thing is that I haven't been able to install the tweaked swiftkey due to it not letting me since the stock MS one is baked in...
