I just discovered this (hidden?) update - Google Pixel 3 Guides, News, & Discussion

I discovered this, I'm on Q beta 5, IDK if this happens on other versions: settings, phone info, android version, module version. Phone finds a "Google Play system update", it downloads it but it can't install it...

Ive just got the 2nd of these in last 24hrs.
I'm guessing that Google are testing updates through Playstore rather than phone settings.... Possibly?!
Final release right around the corner

All of you on Q beta? Probably future Play Store updates...

[SOLVED] Play Store New Feature?

Hi guys...I'm from the GT-I9100G forum......I'm running the latest cm9 on my phone...
Ok, back to my topic...When updating apps, it only downloads for a few percent as shown in Play Store...
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
But in my notifications drawer, it fills up very fast and the update is completed in a short while...faster then expected...but my apps still get updated magically!
It has been like this for many times...tried searching butI don't know what to search for...lol...so anyone else aware about this? My hypothesis is that Play Store only downloads the necessary files to 'patch' the existing apks...Is this possible?
Yes, you are right, actually. The Play Store now only downloads new content for each app, instead of downloading the entire app over again. Makes sense, especially for larger apps, like Death Rally, which is a 50MB initial download. VERY useful update for people who spend a lot of time on their mobile networks (not everybody has 4G or 4G LTE service available, or phones with those capabilities).
I noticed this behavior on my phone, and coincidentally read it online the next day on a random news post.
Wow...great feature......still remember the title of the news?kinda interested...

AOSP battery stats (instead of HW/SW miui) - solution to EXPOSE the page!!!

i've found one strange thing.....
i'm on KATE miui 8.1.3.0 stable, and i discovered that turning OFF the "turn on MIUI optimization" option, fund in the developer potions, allows you to see the stock android battery stats.
try it! then go to settings>battery>battery use> and you will see this page! and it does also work in LANDSCAPE mode!! miui version only works on portrait

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
but the best thing is that it does not change the ORIGINAL miui interface of stats.... you can continue to read it on a different menu, precisely here.
settings>battery>power>battery use and wow in this way you read the miui hardware and software division stats
You probably won't get miui updates after enabling these settings. If you flash them manually then well and good.

Yes, he's telling the truth. Disabling MIUI Optimizations block OTA updates somehow.
ok... just re-enabling... should return to find ota, right?

I'm on OnePlus 5 and would love to take a try on this... Thank you
Does it fix the fact that I can't disable the Play store adding shortcuts to the home screen? I don't want to put a 3rd party launcher on and I don't like having to delete the shortcut after the app is downloaded.
Latest is 2.2.3

You can disable in a setting in play store itself.

after update Sprint bands showed up (Sprint was always much stronger inside house). Non-wifi calling now works inside house.
Can someone on .39, .40, or .41 tell me their baseband version listed in settings please?

This update keeps on failing on my device
yeah, i've got the same issue too. if i had to guess, i bet its a similar one to the issue that was preventing firmware updates a while ago, but i dont know.
so here, take a bump.
The most common reasons for the error installing are the reserve.img missing from unlocking or rooting. There is a thread for reserve.img. If you're rooted, use Magisk Manager to uninstall Magisk. Restore Images worked for me, no need to remove manager or anything.
I didn't get a prompt to reboot on this version. It just did it. So you will likely need a PC to re-root. The thread here lists all the commands.

See the attached link, scroll to the bottom of the page and it looks like you can use the Android Flash Tool to revert back.
It will wipe your device clean, so back it up if you choose to do so. Hope this helps you get back.

I'm afraid to use Flash Tool because don't know exactly how to use it.

It's pretty easy, just need chrome as your browser. Or you can just flash the factory image
With Flash Tool is very very easy, is for baby... he does everything
FLASH, AHH AHH AHH.
Is the savor of the universe.
Problem solved, Flash with Android Tools on Chrome Browser.
