I Need To Purchase A S9+ With A Unlocked Bootloader What One Do I Choose - Samsung Galaxy S9+ Questions & Answers

Hello i have owned my galaxy S9+ (SM-G965U1) for about a year now. Problem is that One UI has completely ruined my life and my entire experience with my phone. Back when it ran Oreo it was near perfect.
So i need help figuring out what the best S9+ with a unlocked bootloader is and where i might be able to buy them new that is.
My plan is to buy one with a unlocked bootloader so i will never have to deal with the piece of human excrement that is One UI

Thank you, this was the funniest post in forever. It has ruined your life. Omg, thank you!
Any Exynos model cam be rooted.

Yes believe it or not it has truly made my life miserable. I don't understand why companies try to fix stuff that isn't broken.

To answer your question the snapdragon SM-G9650 varient Is OEM unlockable it is China, Brazil etc basically international version and any of the Exynos
Are I believe.

Exynos is good for development only as long as the official android is upgraded. But it's closed source with sammy proprietary blobs.
I've got a Note4 Exynos and officially it was upgraded to MM. Only because of months and years of miraculous work of a couple of developers, it's working (with a few hiccups) with TW nougat and up to oreo Lineage.
If you want to change the phone and got the cash after 2 years (or 3? ) of major upgrades from Samsung, then Exynos is OK.
As for me the OP7 (pro maybe) can cut a better deal. Huge deving possibility. And ain't got too much money to change the phone too often.
Good luck.

Yes that's the one there's also supposedly a dual SIM card version around that has 128GB and up but don't know where you get it or much beyond it's existence
But the one you linked is what I have currently.

Option not available on snapdragon....wouldn't do anything anyway (locked bootloader)
Sent from my God Mode 8
It's only available for international exynos variants (F/DS/N) and the Asian Snapdragon variant G9650.
SO no root?

All the latin American snap devices are unlockable, not a big shock. What it weird is that sammy went with snaps not exynos in these areas for the first time. I wonder why?

Oem unlock doesnt do anything on snapdragon. As of this moment. It does not unlock the bootloader. It will allow you to flash the engboot for a dirty root but still will never unlock the bootloader on SD at least.
Check other already have a initial twrp recovery there.
Here in Brazil always have exynos, this year comes with snapdragon, but is a good thing. Better battery, better games perfomance
OEM unlock does not mean its bootloader unlockable or rootable. The exynos variants always comes bootloader unlock along with OEM unlock, but Snapdragon never comes with bootloader unlocked - it is not Samsung, I believe it is Snapdragon issue, they do not allow nor release their kernel code, that's why you will never see root on Snapdragon devices.
I always went with exynos device, but this time because S9/S9+ exynos devices battery issue, screen issue, etc...way too many issues, that's why I went with US unlocked snapdragon version

Actually the s7, note 8 and s8 snaps all got root.
It was a hacked root and problematic and limits charging to 80%. No twrp or kernels or custom roms though
And no issues with my exynos, baffery life close to par with my pixel 2 xl

I meant to order the Exynos G965F for the unlocked bootloader, but ordered the G9650/DS. Are you sure the 9650 variant bootloader can be fully unlocked to use custom roms? If so I might just stick with that one considering all the battery issues I am hearing about the Exynos...I just ordered yesterday actually and still have time to change the order before its shipped.

Yes it should be unlockable but historically the HK versions get very little if any development. So you would maybe have root and twrp but next to no roms...which really makes an unlocked BL somewhat pointless.
Id honestly get the exynos.

I agree, not what i would want on my device anyway.
If you want proper root, development etc you buy exynos despite maybe not getting a fee features out of the like wifi calling etc
If not then buy a snapdragon.

I had chance to get either unlocked snapdragon or exynos version of S9+, but opt for snapdragon, since there's several issues with exynos version of S9/S9+....and I knew all along that getting snapdragon means no root at all, but over the years (i rooted all my devices) I start needing less and less having rooted device...

you must be one of the lucky one, after my Note 5, and going for S9+, and paying premium $$, I just did not want to take risk with Exynos version - you know what I meant.. I will use it for a few months and see if I still need root, if I do, then sell it and get Exynos version
The root on my s7 edge did not limit charging to 80% but yes the eng boot did cause so ridiculous lag but it was still usable I would trade off the lag for. Root as long as get my external storage back stupid it not accessible to all apps

Importing an SD845 version to the UK vs Exynos

Returning my Exynos version off the back of disappointing battery life I've experienced, real shame as I love the phone but can't handle having to nurse it through a day.
Has anyone tried importing an American version of the S9+? Looks like it's possible to get one for under £700 on Amazon.
Not too fussed about the locked bootloader but was wondering if anyone has any real world experience of both the exynos and SD variants and their relative battery performance/ any other quirks (I.e. wouldn't be eligible under warranty)?
Hard to tell from the forums as everyone's usage differs but generally speaking the SD seems to have a significant advantage. (Have also closely followed anandtechs work but more interested in people's real-world performance)
I have the Latin America/Hong Kong Dual SIM Snapdragon 845 version (SM-G9650/DS) and the battery life is not that good but is enough for me.
I've returned my UK exynos to very due to battery life and call dropouts. Liked the phone tho.
Just purchased a 256gb g9650 on eBay from France for £690 which seemed like a good deal. Hopefully it will be better.

re
isnt the sd better in battery life ? i thought it was from what i been reading. I also thought that it came with an unlocked bootloader
I have both (exynos on Three uk and SD on USA T Mobile). I would say that the SD marginally had better battery life but since three rolled out an update last week the battery life between the two has been more or less the same. This makes me think the exynos just has a badly tuned cpu governer and software updates will even out the gap...
Also I would recommend against the SD models in the UK unless you can unlock the bootloader and root etc or you will be stuck with a firmware and CSC that won't support carrier aggregation LTE, WiFi & calling. Had this issue with a Hong Kong imported S8 Plus last year and changing CSC was buggy as hell...

Snapdragon Love Anywhere???

Last Galaxy was S6, jumped ship to iPhone 7S to please the wife, was ecstatic to go back to S9 via T-Mobile aka "Uncarrier".
I was more excited to finally go back to XDA to check the dev scene, but no love for the Snapdragon Varient? I know International aka 960/5F got the unlocked bootloader and usual Day 1 roots.... but does anybody know why the Snapdragon scene isn't active at all?
My T-Mobile S6 Edge was a breeze to root and so many amazing ROMS and Cross-Device Dev too. And that wasn't Exynos either.
Point is, I'm sure I'm not the only one and you guys arent alone out there. I'd love to see how people are enjoying their device, any dis/advantages to our international sibling, and also any tricks they're using to "poweruse" their device.
Cheers

If there were any Snapdragon versions they were not in North America. The US carriers were all Exynos. I had the Verizon version and it was most definitely Exynos. They did not want to use the 810 so I am pretty sure there were no Snapdragons anywhere for the S6.

Put simply, it's because Samsung has made the S9/S9+ SD variant EXTREMELY tamper-resistant. Old methods to achieve root that worked on, say, the S7 or S8 no longer work.
As far as I know, there's only 1 dev working at it. For now, one can only be patient and see what happens.
Other than that though, it's a solid phone that I am enjoying right out of the box. And for now, there's a working hotspot mod, so that's nice as well.
Root on g9650 Hong Kong version can be achieved (see https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...comm-sm-g9650-hong-kong-china-t3764542/page27). I think nowaday there is no way to unlock bootloader of the us variant.

That's typical though, I'd be surprised if Sammy left an old exploit open in a new flagship from an old one
I wouldn't put it past em though, the latest exploits have been pretty easy lol
It's worth noting that the SM-G9600 and SM-G9650 (the non-us unlockable Snapdragon variant s9/s9+ work perfectly on both CDMA and GSM networks in the USA, making it at last a real option for Americans
i'd be happy with the ability to do carrier switching like on the s8/s8+ and note 8

Do you have any reports of someone getting a verizon sim working in this model?

MiPad 4 Shipped With Bootloader Unlocked

Hello, I am new here, so I can only post here.
Long story short, my father bought a sealed MiPad 4 for my mother, but the thing is that when it first booted, I noticed the "Unlocked" logo at the bottom of the screen. Now, I don't know much about their tablets, but I am not so sure that their devices come already unlocked. So, is it normal or not?
Mine came unlocked too, was happy about that.
Might have to do with which version you buy. Chinese version or international version. The international version might be unlocked because they installed the international rom on it.
me too. bought 2 from aliexpress. both are unlocked
Bought from Ali Express. Apparently the International rom, what with the Play Store and all comes with bootloaders unlocked.
However will never receive future updates.

That theory has one flaw: There is no international version of the mipad4. The Mipad 4 is designed and sold for the chinese market, only - There is also no official global or international ROM for it.
What people are experiencing are third party ROMs which are pre-installed by the seller. The sellers probably re-seal the devices once the custom ROM has been flashed.

Root & atleast flashing GSI is possible in this device?

This is really a shame. No root no custom rom for a top-class phone
Will be trying my luck to get one through flipkart flash sales this week. Else I will settle for Poco X3.
I couldn't resist the flipkart deal. I have always rooted my devices the very next day of buying. Xiaomi Mi3 > Nexuz 6P > Samsung S7> Oneplus 3 > Poco F1.
Probably first time gonna get a flagship phone with no custom rom support :/
Hope this can be rooted and I can flash gsi. Can someone confirm, if this is possible?

In my pin code phone went out of stock within 2-3 seconds

The only concern i have about the phone is the developer community support.
Poco has such good developer support, and for g8x it's quite the opposite. Hope that enough units were sold in this sale to spark some community support.

I too bought one from Flipkart. Hope we get community support. Even if we get support for GSI installation, its good.
Is the LM-G850UM out of luck for root? Are any developments being made. I'm considering getting a new phone because not having root is really bothering me. This phone is wonderful but no root is quite the deal breaker..
During the sale 2 models are sold in india, lucky few got the ones manufactured in india which had access to fastboot and most of the others got the phones which are manufactured in vietnam, and these dont even have access ro fastboot menu, sadly i got the vietnam one, also for people who have access to fastboot mode, lg isnt providing the key to unlock the bootloader, so possibly no root or custom rom development for this device, i hope lg will open these devices once their software release cycle is completed that is after andoid 11.
I have previously used k20 pro, and on the first day i removed miui and installed PA its just too good.
My lg g8x has issues with keyboard, closes while typing so installed google keyboard, also installed expanded view, which uses both screens as one during browsing, amd had some other issues such as random shurdowns, dont know why thats happening...
