Discovering /e/
https://e.foundation
/e/ is a lineage fork that aims at bringing a very unified experience entirely based on open source softwares (as Google less as possible) and usable by anybody:
It comes with its own store, the MicroG suite (that still relies on google to ensure compatibility with not open sourced apps), a K9 fork for mails, task (open task), note (nextcloud notes), contact, calendar (etar) all of them unified by the /e/ account manager: add your account once and for all. You can also use your own server (not mandatory) instead of the ecloud server (based on nextcloud), use your nextcloud server if you have one, or don't use any server at all.
Ecloud provides 5 gB of storage for free that can be extended.
The only not opensource app is Magic Earth for maps because it provides a better user experience than currently available open source apps. If you want to use an open source app for maps, have a look at OSMAnd and the fork of Maps.me available on fdroid and /e/ apps store
I've built a minimal version of /e/ without the LibreOfficeViewer app you can find directly on the store
This was built thanks to PHH-Treble and AndyYan scripts you can find here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/pr...i-lineageos-16-0-gsi-arm64-ab-how-to-t3908029

Follow linage tutorial from "install-the-build-packages" to "Initialize the LineageOS source repository" (don't do this last part, we will init /e/ repository instead)
https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/bacon/build#install-the-build-packages
We need to init /e/ repo
create a folder on a disk with at least 150 gB of free space, perhaps even 200gB
mkdir e
cd e
repo init -u https://gitlab.e.foundation/e/os/android.git -b v1-pie
git clone https://github.com/phief/e_gsi_localmanifest .repo/local_manifests
repo sync -j2
Once it has completed
bash treble_build_los/apply_patches.sh
This will patch Lineage, thank you AndyCGYan and PHHusson for them
Some basic optimisation (optionnal):
export USE_CCACHE=1
prebuilts/misc/linux-x86/ccache/ccache -M 50G
ccache makes future builds faster but requires disk space and will make the first build a bit slower
First, select the flavor you want to build
treble_arm64_aeN-userdebug for arm64 a-only
treble_arm64_beN-userdebug for arm64 a/b
treble_arm_aeN-userdebug for arm a-only
Prepare to build
source build/envsetup.sh
lunch your-flavor
Start the build process:
make WITHOUT_CHECK_API=true systemimage
the resulting system image will be in
out/target/product/your-flavor/system.img

ROM works great and very smooth. However, I can't find a way to run gapps in order to use the app version of certain social medias. Props to the devs of this as it works great on my Ascend G7 (which is compatible thanks to @luistro). Anyone have any tips for making the gapps work?

Note: If you're a Google Fi customer, you need some extra gapps, so use this one instead. https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=1395089523397956756
Instructions:
Note#1: Official nightlies have the most current vendor, radio, and bootloader img's built-in, so no need to worry about flashing those anymore.
Note#2: When using twrp it will ask if you want to install the twrp app. Make sure you tap "DO NOT INSTALL".
Note#3: Root is not included in official lineage roms. If you want root you can flash the arm64 su addon here. It will be disabled by default. You can enable it in developer options.
1. boot into twrp and select wipe, then swipe to factory reset. NOTE: If updating from a previous official rom (15.1/16.0), skip this wipe step.
2. flash rom zip.
3. flash twrp zip.
4. (optional) if you want to install gapps zip or su addon zip, in twrp main menu select reboot, then select recovery, then install those zips.
Reboot & enjoy.
Weather Provider Addon (Optional)
For those that like the lineage cLock widget, here's the OpenWeatherProvider apk you need to get weather info. https://download.lineageos.org/extras
Grab the one for version 16.0.
Note: You'll need an api key from OpenWeatherMap.

It comes with a lot of pentesting things. So it's basically for hackers. There is something called Kali liniux that you use on a computer, and that's what a lot of hackers use, so this is just the mobile version pretty much
Are external USB WiFi supported?
Damn thanks so much. I tried building the kernel forever and failed many times (I'm not a developer). My question is, What do we do when theres a new OS update? Last ROM i was using was a mission to update to newer Android updates.
Does this work with AOSP based roms or only OOS?
So far is working with no issues or me. I'll update more after a few days.

I'll upload the kernrl separately from the whole Installer a bit later..

The download link on the download page does say Pie on it. But yeha it'll be good fo the OP to specify and warn people not to use it on Q.

What is Ubuntu Touch?
Ubuntu Touch is the touch-friendly mobile version of Ubuntu.
This operating system is developed and maintained by UBports: An international community of passionate volunteers.
This means Ubuntu Touch is 100% community driven and independent.
What is Halium?
Halium is the collaborative project to unify the Hardware Abstraction Layer for projects which run GNU/Linux on mobile devices with pre-installed Android.
How it is a GSI?
First of all, I should mention ubports GSI definition is different from android, but both are generic.
ubports root file system was always generic and works for most cases, but devs were porting halium system image to add device-specific (HALs and configs) support to ubports Android container.
But after project treble which introduced in android 8, all device-specific parts of android system image moved to vendor partition and we can use "Generic system images" over one vendor partition.
In halium version 9, we use this adventure and have a totally generic system image + root file system.
Requirements:
The only Requirement of booting this GSI is having Halium patched kernel.
Keep in mind having android 9 firmware installed on the device as GSI base is mandatory (GSI can be used on android 8.0 and 8.1 vendors but experimental and not supported yet)
How to install?
For installation guide and kernel patchings details check ubports wiki page: Click Here

Exactly. I need to learn about patching the kernel before trying this out.

The ubuntu touch is based on ubuntu 16.04 LTS version and gets needed security patches so no worries
And about the Android N screenshots, that was anbox (kinda an Android emulator) to run Android apps on gnu/linux operating systems
But this GSI needs Android 9 vendor for base to boot correctly..

I'm using a Moto g6 play (Jeter) I am using pie vendor on the GSI I am currently on. Besides flashing the Ubuntu GSI and the pie vendor, do i need to patch my kernel too?

I believe so hoping I get a chance to try this today but if you beat me to it let us know how it goes. I will be trying it on a moto g7 power and a pixel 2xl if everything goes smooth

Are you going to patch your kernel? Our kernel source is a real unorganized mess, I'm looking forward to trying this out but im not looking forward to untangling the disaster we have on github to do it

Yeah if I understand correctly that is the only way it will boot. Haven't looked at the g6 forums in awhile to see if there might be a custom kernel that may be easier to modify because I don't think we will get lucky enough to find one with it already built in.

I am one of the top contributers to the g6, I've built ROM's and kernels and while I've been able to produce permissive kernels with a few modifications... patching this kernel may prove difficult for me at my current skill level. I'll give it my best shot though [emoji846]

The Redmi 7A has a 32-bit kernel according to other threads, do you reckon this will still work?
Can i install it in galaxy j5 2017?

Hello,
Excuse my ignorance.
I have already used Ubuntu touch on oneplus one and on Xperia X.
1) Is it possible to carry out this installation on a oneplus 7?
2) What is the ota based on?
3) In what percentage is it operational?
Thank you so much for everything.

Hey could you possibly link me to the toolchain you are building with please. I've been trying to build this thing for awhile now and always end up with Bluetooth btfm_slim fatal error. Thanks

Sorry, already replied. ?
Awesome work?
btw Should it work on Android 10 vendor ?

LeaOS is a project which based on AOSP with trebledroid patches and personal patch. This is the GSI version of my ROM for Huawei. It is available only in two versions, vanillia and googleapps
The additional features that I added compared to an aosp are:
- wireless display support
- possibility to reset the battery consumption statistics to 0
- disk erofs compression support
- offline charging support

This GSI is simply perfect, up to date, clean and stable, it just has a little problem when using the App Manager and disabling some apps, it ends up bootlooping something that doesn't happen in other GSI, but still this is the best GSI, thanks for doing this GSI :-D

Hi, thanks for the ROM, it is very smooth and stable.
I have a small bug, the manual screen orientation button does not show up when oriantate the device from horizontal position to vertical position. But it shows up when oriantate from vertical to horizontal.
Is it compatible with Huawei P30 (ELE-L29)?

Using it on the Huawei P20 Pro, it is almost perfect, but calls don't work (just ends call instantly) and camera is malfunctioning (works for a split second and then it just frezzes). But still, thanks for the awesome GSI.
For Camera I have same problem on kirin 970. For calls, do you have verify your apn ?

Even with the settings that i've made, which seem to be correct, it still doesn't work (only for internet it works as expected).
This and the camera are just a dealbraker.
It's sad that these things stop me from using this as my primary OS, but still, you have done a great job.
