Standby drain - Google Pixel 3a Real Life Review

When you sleep, does your phone sleep, or does it stay up all night and crunch 1s and 0s? Rate this thread to express how you deem the speed at which the Google Pixel 3a's battery drains under standby conditions. A higher rating indicates that when the phone is not in use, the battery drains minimally.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!

Losing maybe 1% or 2% for a whole night.
Turned off everything I could from reading different threads about wakelocks. AOD is on, but it turns itself off when the phone has its screen facing the table.
Using ElementalX kernel.

Always on Display uses 1% per hour and you can't schedule it to turn off at night, so this is definitely not a 2 day battery. Flipping the phone face down while sleeping is a workaround.

How the hell do you only lose 1-2%? I got a brand new 3a and lose about 5-6% overnight. Can you tell me what you disabled? I've only disabled digital well being, close all background apps, and have AOS disabled.

I restricted
- Android System
- Google Play Store
- Google
- Pixel launcher
as they were listed as using the most power overnight.
I've noticed no negative side effects until now.
Be careful though!
Your milage may vary.

- Kernel is stock - phone OTA updated to 12.2019
- AlwaysOnDisplay was enabled but with display facing down all night long. Therefore the display was switched off.

What is"-5" here.
Just a system app or some malicious app?
Edited-
Got it.This shows up in battery usage when you have used wifi hotspots.

Are you also using battery saver mode? I can't get below 5% unless I use battery saver mode.

Alright, I found out my weak signal was draining my battery. You can test this by leaving your phone in airplane mode overnight. If you get far less drain with airplane mode on, it's either your weak wifi signal, or weak cell reception. For me, it was my cell reception. I left the phone in a spot of the house overnight that has strong signal and I only drained 3%. That is only with digital well being disabled. All the other settings recommended above were reverted in a reset.

Actually I discovered the same the other day after having added a 2nd phone number through an eSIM. The respective network has zero signal in our bedroom. The same night the phone started draining the battery significantly more.

zer0 % drain over 10 hours last night even with Bluetooth and Wifi on.
I was probably tired last night and slept while watching Netflix ( otherwise I always turn bt, wifi, data etc off before sleeping.), And woke up just now to find this. I'm amazed. The only mobile I've ever had 0% drop overnight before this was with 2XL. But with everything turned off before sleeping. Absolutely Loving my experience with 3a, touchwood.
My only settings are-
Stock Launcher
No Root done.
Bt and wifi Scanning Off.
Digital wellbeing disabled.
Google location history ON.

Dunno about that...
I've used 7t, 11 and Pixel 3 at the same place(where I live) and it's always been 2-5% overnight at best.
0 is 0 though...

Another instance of 0% drain.
These are happening regularly now.

How are you guys disabling Digital Wellbeing? The option is greyed out on my phone. Running the stock ROM on the January 2020 patch.

I disabled it in settings

I experience AOD drain at night with june fw

Weird Battery Usage Behavior

I have some weird behavior with my XZU, the other day after a full charge I left it idle overnight at 100% and the next morning was still at 100%, amazing.
But there are other opportunities when the battery will go down pretty fast, today with no active apps is going down at 1% to 2% per hour, currently is at 52%. I have attached print screens from BBS, what's your opinion?
NOTE: I have Stamina Mode ON

I just took these new screen shoots of Partial and Kernel Wakelocks and now there is a process called "AudioOut_3" and the phone has been sitting idle
AudioOut is running when you're listening to music, or use apps that emits audio. Have you listened to music after plugging the phone off the charger?
*Backup* is backup, I guess? Still, 15 minutes wakelock is a lot.
Fullsync is Whatsapp that's syncing in the background.
PowerManagerService is the charging service which runs while it's charging. It should not still run after it's no longer charging. Reboot if it does.
Overall, not the worst I've seen, but those wakelocks could've been much much shorter. What does a wakelock mean? Whenever a process is waking up the phone to do a task while in deep sleep/standby. If an app uses 20 minutes to complete a task, then it'll suck the battery, and when you unlock the phone again, you'll soon notice that it's been using a lot of battery while it's been "sleeping". Most apps with background sync will do this, and if you have a bad connection at the time, it'll use even longer to update the app.

qcom_rx_wakelock - 12m 44s
No Data connection & No or Unknown Signal - 1hr 58m 7s.
Your phone lost its network signal and is trying its best to get it back thereby pushing more power to its tx/rx circuits and using more battery in the process..
Just a not so intelligent guess.. lol

Maybe this is related to the Stamina Mode, because I have it ON. The phone has been on my house all the time, with T-Mobile signal and Wifi always. I know Stamina mode will turn OFF Wifi and Data, maybe that's the reason??
Well,, I understand stamina mode turning off Data and WiFi..
But checking on the screenshot, it also said "no or unknown signal" so it means your mobile signal is lost also?

Battery Life?!?

2 days? I had a full charge in this at 6 am, now i just got a 14% low battery alert at 2:28pm...
Is this normal? I am not doing anything unusual at all, did not use it to make a single phone call, and am at work so ive only checked it a handful of times today...
what have yall experienced here??? this seems ridiculous!
Well took my gear s off charge at 7:30am and have checked it at regular points through the day including showing it off to work people and it's not 22:37pm and I still have 67% left of the battery so mines about right...
I have thus set to do Gmail, Facebook, Instagram, sms, twitter and a few other notifications so gets used fully through the day.

hmm....
i just brought up the list of running apps and found that the music app was still open (though on pause) from this morning.
i have a hunch, playing or not, that if you leave the music app open in the background it may be the source of the battery drain.
no, i do not have the clock face set to always on as well. just music app running in the background on pause.
i'm hoping this is it, though since i killed tasks i went from 14% to 1% in as many minutes. I'm guessing not...
Took it off the charger this morning at 6:30am at 60% and as of right now at 5:30pm it has 33%.
27% in 12 hours

I used it a fair amount today.

After i re-charge i'm going to try this:
Update on Battery Life for me
HUGE day of use primarily with notifications and texting. Up and fully charged at 7am and now at 5:30pm I'm still at 48% battery.
On Wifi
BT Tethered
Clock off
Brightness at 60%
Vibrate/no sound
GPS Off - which I think is a HUGE key to success. No need to have it on unless needed anyway.

TY! looks like it was already off though...
what does it mean:
Location - "gps only" ?
If it means to say location = gps, its a bit confusing...
additionally, the feature i disabled that so far has helped is the mute/pause motion option. This one option seems to be the culprit for my 100% - 0% in 8 hours issue. I'm never enabling that feature again! holy cow!
Just did my first full run down on the battery without charging, been running since yesterday morning and am down to 8%, so less than 48 hours so far, but still two full work days. I can at least forget to charge once in a while.
Not as good as my Neo's 4 dayss, but better than the 12 hours I was getting on the Moto.

Battery life for me is about a day and a half. I set the face to watch just to display black and white numbers I put a black background and that really helps. You don't need the full color watch background that drains a lot of battery when you decide to lift it up and down.

gonna give that a try. this thing is getting crazy good battery life after its 6th full charge. after 13hrs yesterday with notifications, email reply's, multiple phone calls (two calls of 20 plus minutes) the damn thing had over 60% left. that's with GS to N2 via BT.
Battery life is getting better, been on for 14 hours and still at 75%
At work 13.5 hours and I'm at 51%. Turning off the wake up motion helped me today, and running tethered to my phone helped (although I will not keep doing that), biggest help was not running with gps (but this will not be a normal occurrence). I'm going to run with phone remotely connected and gps running tomorrow and see what just having the wake motion off will do for me.
6-7 hours on GSM
Most of the posts specify battery time while using it on BT thethering.
However I like to use it as a basic phone, no worrying about carrying everywhere regular phone.
Of course I have a phone in a bag (just for case, battery!, for emails, and browsing).
- So, when using it for regular talk it lasts from 9.am to 3p.m. Specifications:
a) about 1 hour talk
b) 2 sms
c) GPS Off, WIFI off, Move ON, not installing extra apps
d) BT and SONY SBH52 ON
This is not enough.
Charging is fast - (with no connecting to plug) i can get 50% batt in 30 minutes.

WiFi is always On with Android 6.0

After flashed Android 6.0 I noticed worse battery life than with 5.1.1
Looking for a culprit I noticed in the battery status chart that wifi is always on. It is a solid line with no interruptions anywhere.
This did not happen before. Thinking about a bad app, I factory reset the tablet and did not install any third-party app.
Even in this pristine conditions wifi is always on.
Do you have the same problem?
Thanks!
I definitely do not have the problem. In fact I have the opposite problem. I used to have twitter setup on my tablet (just for news sites like AP, etc.) and then used pushbullet to notify me on my PC/other devices. Since I flashed 6.0 once it goes into doze I stop getting those notifications until I turn it on again.
Last night I put the tablet down around 1am at 86% and this morning at 7:30am it was at 84%
Thanks. If you click on the chart on the battery section of the settings, what do you see? I see a solid uninterrupted line for WiFi, and interrupted lines for Awake and Screen On.

Was away for 3 hours and when I came back home my Nexus 9 had turned off wifi. So it seems it works but it takes a lot longer before it turns off wifi. Used to be 15 minutes but what it is now I don't know.

I read over on the Nexus 5 forum that there was a wifi always on scanning bug going around that people with curing by disabling WiFi scanning under location services. I'm happy to say, after flashing fresh factory images, my 9 and 5 are working flawlessly. Like someone posted above, both of my devices left all night and half the next day only knocked a few percent off the battery. I usually charge my Nexus 5 halfway through the day, but yesterday I did not and had 40% when I put it on charge going to bed. My wife took the OTA as opposed to flashing fresh on her Nexus 5, but she has had no issues either.
I'm loving this update on both of my devices so far. The animations are so much smoother.

Actually after the first day or so it got much better. They are still delayed but if thats the tradeoff for the insane standby time I'm ok with it.
Here are my N9's current battery stats:
Tablet Idle Time (i.e. time off charger): 2d 4h 40m
Screen on time: 1h 17m
Battery Percentage: 74%!!!
I use my tablet to cast shows and did some light browsing/PDF reading (trying to figure out how to get my son to sleep ) so thats why the low SOT. Normally probably without even touching the tablet I'd already be sub 50%
I believe the WiFi always on showing under battery life is a bug. My n6 is the same way. Recently went on a trip with no access to WiFi. Turned WiFi off but yet it still shows it's always on under battery. I don't notice any additional battery usage so I assume it is just a bug and hopefully will be fixed in the next update. I believe the bug was also present in the developer previews

Anyone ever tried analyzing the difference in battery drain between WQHD vs Full HD?
Read somewhere that there is no difference given that the phone still needs to push the same amount of pixels it was built to do. Curious..

That's true. My house has bad telco network. Wi-fi does improve the battery drain a lot. Also my N9 is coming out to show its colors. Finished 2 work days with 40%+ battery.
So far, with Airplane mode 2% and without 3%. No AOD. Also rocks 2.5 days before recharging. At 2.5 days I have 15% battery left. I am impressed but it is still early.

2% an hour? How the hell do you get 2.5 days off a charge if you're draining 2% an hour? My standby averages .3-.7h an hour. Usually closer to .7%. I wish it stuck closer to .3% because I think .7% an hour is too high for the great reception I get.

Question Official battery life thread

I have the S23 Ultra since February 3rd and battery life gets better and better.
I don't know what to say. I think this s23 ultra is faulty. I can't be at 29% battery used with over 6 hours screen on time! Light use, from 80% charge
15 hours total uptime, 8 and a half hours screen off time, gotta sleep sometime. LIGHT performance profile used and screen at 60hz cause 120hz my eyes can hardly see. It's smoother yes, but barely, battery life is king for me
All on WiFi, location on, most apps sleeping. Gobsmacked. It's beating the redmagic 8 pro that's in the household with its 6k mah battery.
I'm expecting a lot less using mobile data, surely

Amazing battery
This phone is perfect
Got it since February 10th in the USA and I can only say battery has been great. Compared to my other phones ( coming from a pixel 7 pro and a Xiaomi mi 11 5g) the battery life is just excellent on this s23 ultra, for such a big device and huge screen size I think Samsung finally nailed it. No sleeping apps, not profile settings just plain stock and so far so good. Wifi and data on 24/7, location on 24/7, VPN 24/7 . The browser times where spent a huge time watching videos from it, almost an hour of video calling and shooting some video and photos, couple of sessions of gaming.
Full Hd, adaptuve screen, performance mode

How much do you lose on standby? Say overnight, while sleeping, over 8-10 hours how much do you lose ?
My last check yesterday was 3 percent

Thanks, is that with WiFi data Bluetooth GPS etc off? How many hours standby did you lose 3% on?
The amazing battery life has a lot to do with the display too. It is a hugely more efficient panel.
Samsung gave the Galaxy S23 series a new energy-efficient AMOLED display
Samsung confirmed that it has fitted the Galaxy S23 line with a new type of AMOLED display that saves on power.

All on. Wifi. Data. Location. Bluetooth. Performance mode.
I'm so happy with this battery performance and am afraid to update OS when it comes out...Given the great track record of Samsung breaking things that don't need fixing, there's a high probability that the battery life will go for a toss
Had my s23 ultra since 7 Feb and consistently get just under 10 hours of SOT (most of my day is indoors on WiFi, with a 2 or 3 hours walk most afternoons in 4g)
I am running pretty.much on default settings for screen and battery - I just use my phone normally and forget about battery optimisation settings
This is the best battery.life EVER on a Samsung!
After 2 weeks with the 23u and my standard use of it i have from 85% to 30% (i never go below 30%) 4h SoT

I think it is ok. I use performance mode, all location, Bluetooth with watch, some 5G, some WiFi etc.
I mostly read on phone, scrolling...

Have you done anything specific in battery settings? Any debloating? Is this with wqhd + 120hz? Standard mode or lite mode? What's your battery settings ?

Yes I did debloat, light batter profile and battery saving (it's more than powerfu enough).
Plus I have disabled all the nearby services for smarthings find the phone offline wifi quick share etc.
I don't like having the phone always sending radio signals around for no reason

Can you give a brief list of what you debloated?
Also, android system intelligence service, is that even a necessary app? Would cause any issues if I disabled/deleted it?

Honestly I didn't track the changes, but I followed this guide
[DISCONTINUED] Samsung Galaxy One UI - Optimization Guide
THIS IS A SUGGESTED CONFIGURATION FOR SAMSUNG DEVICES OUT OF SUPPORT/CLOSED I - RECOMMENDED SETTINGS To Start With - Factory Reset before starting optimisations - Factory Reset after every Major update (One UI/Android) - Remove SIM before first...

I wasn't even too much aggressive with debloating, maybe I'll go for a second round
