Auto brightness issue! - Xiaomi Mi A3 Questions & Answers

Have any one else seen this issue with brightness after locking and unlocking ....the brightness value changes despite being auto- brightness turned off

I had that issue, yes. But, since August OTA installation, I never noticed it again.

A simple reboot after turning off auto brightness will restore it back to manual brightness...

Display brightness unstable

Does anyone notice the Prime has problem on display? The brightness on my one up and down from time to time. Not very frequent, but noticable. Tried different settings, all 3 power setting, auto brightness, disabled auto...
It is on 4.0.3. Didn't know if it was on HC since I upgraded it right away after got it. The series is c1okaxxxxx.

I have noticed this. However I don't think it happens on user defined brightness (auto turned off). I'll have to check
I noticed that my auto brightness started acting strange after the OTA update on Feb 8. Mostly, it got very dark and I had to turn off auto.
It does the same for me, it changes the brightness even if I set manual brightness. Either it is some kind of 'dynamic' brightness to improve contrast on screen or a bug.
I have written to Asus tech support, no response yet...
Do you think it is the same as flickering issue or related? Does your Prime have other issues?
For my one, the GPS is not working at all. It is also doing reboot after FC sometimes.

light sensor

hi all, I noticed that light sensor doesnt work properly, when I go from dark to light area, the brightness increases but when I go from light to dark area the brightness wont decrease, on honeycomb it worked properly, anybody else experiences this problem?
Same here, it goes bright but does not decrease.
I use the app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=rubberbigpepper.DisplayBrightness&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsInJ1YmJlcmJpZ3BlcHBlci5EaXNwbGF5QnJpZ2h0bmVzcyJd
make an invisible slider on the edge of screen to adjust brightness.
is there any way to make it work properly?
Don't think so. Its pretty much unusable now.

There are lots of negative comments about light sensor, but i have to say it works well to me on ICS. Could be possibly massive amount of defected devices.
Lightsensor doesn't work for me either - too bad, hope it will be corrected.
Perhaps it's because I'm running ICS "General Channel".

Do the sensor dim the light in the same session for you?
Here it turns up the light but not down again.

Same here, adjusting upwards works fine, but it doesn't adjust downwards in low light conditions.
I have tried two apps that turns the light down again, custom auto brightness and lux auto brightness.
One small problem. The pad will crash on pattern unlock after sleep. I Also the light sensor will not work s after wake up sometimes.

I'm guessing no one has had any luck with this issue but I figure I'd necro the thread anyways. My light sensor sucks also. I used 'Android Sensor Box' to get the values coming out of the sensor. It only displays either 40 lux or 280 lux which is obviously not right. This is on Cyanogen 9, stock t-mobile ICS and the rooted international gingerbread(can't remember which one exactly).
So I was wondering if anyone who owns one of these has ever gotten a sensor value that makes any sense.
thanks
nope,
I use instead display brightness https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=rubberbigpepper.DisplayBrightness&hl=no
create an invisible brightness slider on theedge of the screen.
Try using custom auto brightness with the auto brightness on (there's a setting in that app that disabled the system auto brightness at screen on. Turn it off).
The original kernel only recognized 3 light levels. If you use bart's kernel it will recognize 6 levels.
Yes, I think there's a software problem because both app (lux and cua) crash hard in HMP, but I don't think fixing it is a priority.

How to use custom auto brightness without crashing the tablet.
There are 2 options that should be followed, other settings can be adjusted to your liking.
1. In preferences, Check Use pulsed sensor mode. Basically this option will make the app read the sensor itself instead of listening the sensor value given from the system.
2. In advanced preferences, set the sensor update speed to either half sec or 1 sec. I tried normal, but the app won't read the sensor value, so probably the slow normal maximum setting only works if you get the sensor value from the system.
You can set disable system auto brightness. I recommend it before because the setting was a "hack" which was making the system read the brightness value thus the app can get that value. Right now it's recommended that you check the disable system auto brightness.

Brightness boost

Hi,
When 'Increase Readability Under Sunlight' under developer options is turned off, does the display still boost the brightness (with brightness set on auto) outdoors/under strong light conditions or does it not?
I would like to toggle off this option because besides boosting the brightness, it also changes the display gamma and thus washes out colours. I really don't like this. So I want to keep the boost, but without the gamma change. I'm worried that with this option under developer settings turned off, the brightness on auto doesn't get higher than the maximum on manual.
Is there someone who can test this or knows the answer?
Oke, I tried out with a strong led light and it looks like the boost mode still works with 'Increase Readability Under Sunlight' toggled off. I'm not sure though as I don't have a lux measure device. But at least now I don't have that frustrating self adjusting gamma anymore.
Oh! Thanks for making that thread. Even throught nobody answered there I hope we can talk. I didn't even notice the gamma change. Does it boost brightness over the manual slider 100%? It's weird in my opinion. The brightness slider should reach the same brightness level as the automatic under sun

Annoying brightness change

Is there any way to turn off the annoying content adaptive brightness feature?
The brightness automatically increases when dark scenes are displayed on the screen. This happens even with the auto brightness turned off and is noticeable especially during the night when we use the phone at the lowest brightness settings.
What I've already tried:
1. Turn off auto brightness
2. Turn off automatic contrast
3. Turning off reading mode
4. Turning off content adaptive brightness using MIUI Hidden Settings app
Is there any way to disable this?

It's even noticeable on 8.11.23 though it has improved a lot from previous builds.
Its irritating and finally someone mentioned it, is there no fix for this? This is even present in the EU rom.
Any fix available yet?
This issue still has not been solved, and exists in EU roms, as well as MIUIpro. Can anyone guide to fix this annoying problem?
Driving me crazy. Everytime i use it in car for navigation when the bluetooth reconnect on engine restart screen goes near black.
I've tried droid automation to try and over rule it but still don't work.

Brightness automatically changing even with auto brightness turned off

Hello, I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and I've had this annoying problem ever since I got this phone in 2017. The screen brightness keeps changing automatically even though I turned off auto brightness.
https://streamable.com/c5q9w
Here is a video example. As you can see, the brightness changes by itself when covering the light sensor, even though auto brightness is set to off. It might be hard to see the difference in the video but it's quite noticeable in real life.
Is there a way to fix this?
