SD Card - Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite Questions & Answers

Gidday
I was real tired today when I got home and found a package containing a Samsung 256 Gig SD Card had arrived so I promptly put it in the phone and formatted it and then I must have done something wrong as the phone wouldn't read it...I was able to remove the card and find that Windows would read it no problems...
I know that this phone accepts 256 Gig cards so that isn't a problem so what else could it be??? Anyone have any tips to allow me to get back the use of the card?? What format should the card be formatted as and can it be formatted in Windows and then placed in the phone??

Just an update, I have been trying everything to get the card working in the phone but nothing so far...I am able to see it in Windows and I can format it and reformat it to different file systems...ex-fat being the format of choice for Android phones...
One interesting thing I have noticed is that there is a 16mb partition on the card that I can't get rid of...this I think may be the problem...does anyone have any idea as to how to get rid of this partition and merge it with the rest of the card? I have tried using MiniTool Partition Wizard Professional Edition but feel it might be something to do with Linux...am I close?

Did you partition the sdcard in twrp? If so it would be an ext3 or ext4 file system which windows normally doesnt read. Although a decent partition tool should be able to see and delete the partitions. I also double checked and your rom should support exfat.
Have you tried copying multiple large files to sdcard? Could be a format issue. I normally format my sdcards on my pc although I use linux (windows only for special uses). Could try creating a live boot copy of linux on a cd or usb drive and see if that helps. Just use Ubuntu which is one of the easiest. Gparted is the tool you will use. It will already be included with the OS.

No, I initially formatted the card in the phone as per normal...for some reason I then took it out and musta done something to it for it to be unreadable in the phone....

Did the card ever work? Where did the card come from? Could it be a fake? They take this small card partition it and run a compression tool to make it appear larger than it actually is. Which is part of why I mentioned coping a few large files (2-3 gig vids). Video cant be compressed much more than it already is so the card would look almost full with only a few gigs being used.

I did transfer a small file (5mb mp3) to the first small partition (15mb) and my phone recognised it so if only I could get rid of that partition or merge it somehow with the remaining partition I think it would clear up this problem...
I transferred a file to the other partition but it wasn't recognised by the phone...

Have you tried using custom recover and doing a repartition? Read the question carefully. I have not repartitioned in recovery in a long time. I believe there are 3 options as you go through the process. If the first is like a cache partition set to zero. If second is an ext partition also set to zero. The third should be external storage I believe it will automatically set to max size but if not then set to max. Again it has been years so things might have changed but willing to bet they have not.

Help with ROM flashing

I am new and have searched and found out how to flash a ROM, BUT I am not clear on some things. How can I tell if my SD card is fat32, and how do I flash a new ROM using vista, I need detailed instructions step by step because I cant afford to screw up my phone but I definately want to get everything out of it possible. Pease dont bash me I am willing to speak to someone over the phone to make it easier if willing. Thanks in advance!
MSkip's Flashing Guide for Noobs
I highly recommend using MSkip's Flashing Guide for Noobs

It should tell you everything you need to know about flashing. It got me through my first flash without any problems! Good luck and happy flashing!

Put your card in a card reader and connect it to a PC. Once Windows sees the drive. right-click on it in "My Computer" and choose "Properties" (I believe that this is similar in Vista). It should tell you what type of partition your card has under "File system:" (FAT or FAT32). If its FAT32, you're golden. If its not, you can right-click and choose "Format", and make sure you choose FAT32 as the partition type.
You have to plug your card into your PC. When it shows up as an external drive... simply right click and select properties. Vista should tell you how the card is formatted. If it's FAT16, then copy yer data off and format the card FAT32. Then copy data back and yer ready to start.

Honestly, if you don't know how to check the format of your card (or re-format it), you might not want to start flashing your phone yet.

If you are able to connect to you PC via USB connection, you will see you phone show up when you click My Computer or Computer (eg as HTC_P4600). Click the phone and you'll see 2 drives: "\" and Storage Card.
Right click the Storage Card and choose properties. I will show you under File System whether it is FAT32 or not.
Alright if I use activesync to flash does the SD card still need to be fat32 beacuse I tried formatting it and it is stating it is "write protected" and wont let me.

**Warning** I suggest you read the post above yours. Be very careful on what you are doing to your device if you don't know what to do.....
when I explore the card while in the phone it states it is fat32 so I guess I am ok with that. NOw I will flash a ROM using activesync

Note that HardSPL may not be enough if you are trying to flash to a ROM from a different device like Diamond, Touch HD.
You may need Security Unlock.
I highly suggest you read this thread about flashing, CID and Security Unlock.
microSD format
How big is your microSD card? If it's greater than 2 GB then it's fat32.
You really need to do a lot of reading before you even consider flashing your phone! Start with the sticky posts at the top of this forum. You don't want to end up with a $400 paperweight!
Well whn on the tricolor screen it is running 1.90 OliNex after the hardspl, and I downloaded the ROM I want to flash, took out my SD and sim, next I was going to sync with USB wait till activesync is running and follow the rest of the directions. sounds simple enough, I am computer friendly but I am a facilitator, trainer, and instructor so I like to know every little step possible to make sure everything is covered like I do for my classes, thats all.

[Q] EXT Partition

I've read so many different threads about EXT partition but none have the answer I'm looking for.
Are EXT partitions only available for custom roms?
Is it possible to make one on my Ace without installing a custom rom?
I installed Links2SD and It's not really doing much of anything and I still have the same full internal memory issue. I also looked up Rom manager on the market. Can I make a partition with it?
I've been deleting and installing apps all day long and I'm tired of not having enough space. I have an 8GB class 4 micro SD.
Can I get some help please? :/

1.) I am on a stock ROM coupled to a 8GB Class 4 card and i am making use of a ext4 partition. That makes my experience relevant to your interest
2.) Do you know what the ext4 is meant for?
3.) DO NOT USE THE ROM MANAGER. IT WILL BRICK YOUR S5830.
4.) To answer your question, go here http://gparted.sourceforge.net/download.php, download and burn the iso and boot into Gparted. Use GParted to make an ext 4 partition. BACKUP your entire SD card before doing so as partitioning wipes everything in the card.

u have a higher chance of damaging ur pc hard disk when using gparted livecd. just a single wrong click and all ur data will be gone, or even corrupt the hard disk itself. linux livecd is not something to mess around when u dont know what ur doing. minitool partition wizard is working just fine for me, never had any problem with it.

beg to differ. Gparted comes in a GUI and one has to be careful on selecting the right disk to work with. Other than that, i don't see how one can accidentally partition the HDD containing Windows.

If you didn't already try this,
There is a command line tool called "diskpart" which comes with windows. You have to use command prompt. Open command window and type "diskpart" . It is used to partition disks and external hard drives. It might be useful. I haven't used it much because I'm on linux. Just give it a shot.

Try gparted and yes it works with backtrack. In my previous comment in the "source" link a guy had the same problem as yours, the card says "write protected" and the only strong reply he got was to get the memory card replaced

ok im running ANOTHER surface scan on it now. it has got a lot further than it did before, theres about 220 red bad blocks. ini partition tool shows it as a bad disk.
before when this happened i plugged it into me xbox and configured it as a memory unit, then re formatted it on me pc but it wont do it this time.
is there a way or a program that will scan and fix bad blocks? windows cant do it because it cant pick it up as an actual memory card

How to copy large files (over 4GB) to SD CARD ?

Hello.
I've saw the reply for this question in other posts, but i got confused.
Well, i've a SanDisk 32GB SD card i'm using on my RAZR.
I would like to copy some files (videos) wich are over 4GB+ to the sdcard on my phone, so i can watch'em using the microhdmi output.
Well, it seems that android is recognizing only fat32 partitions, that have a size limitation.
If i try to format it to NTFS or EXT4 (using SafeStrap Partition command) i can't read it on the system.
Is there any piece of software i can use, or any trick to make the sdcard able to recive 4gb+ files ?
Thanks in advance [email protected]

[Q] SD Card very weird behavior - unable to format or delete

I have an extremely weird SD Card behavior with my Note 2:
After deleting files and rebooting, the files reappear.
I can't format the SD Card using the Android OS - it goes black screen and requires me to pull out the battery in order to start the device.
I removed the SD Card and attached it to my laptop's SD Card slot and tried formatting using Windows 7- the format process completed after ~30-40 minutes, yet the SD Card appeared UNCHANGED!
I used multiple SD Card formatting tools, still no dice - they either complain about write protection, that they can't start, they start and stop halfway with an error, you name it.
It's like the SD Card has built in protection that keeps the files in it in stasis form, never ever witnessed such a behavior in any storage device. What gives?
Any help, preferably from people who may have encountered a similar behavior, will be greatly appreciated!
Bump.
Experienced this in my old motus.

I doubt the SD Card is corrupted, as I can read the files on it just fine, each and every file.
A VBS virus that prevents me from even formatting the card? Never heard of such a thing.
Has my SD Card became sentient? Are the machines preparing their assault on mankind?
use a good anti...
well if u get any shortcut then its virus
Thanks! I'll try to find a good AV and see if I'll find anything.
OK, Lookout Mobile, Mobile Security Antivirus and AVG didn't find a single thing wrong.
Weird.

Its not the problem of virus!
And you say visual basic script is used to create a virus?? Hell, No!!
Maybe it is the permissions in the sd card is not allowing it to format!
If your device is rooted and check whether it has ClockWorkMod recovery support.
You can use any other recovery. But ClockWorkMod is more stable.
Go to android recovery and flash that CWM.
And then go to mounts and storage > select format /sdcard.
Check if the format completes. If it gets complete, reboot your phone and again format in the settings.
If it doesn't help, after doing all these steps, now try again with some softwares on your computer and then try again.
Press thanks if I have helped you.
PM me for problems.
Well agree

Anyway, you get a 'Thanks' regardless, I'm grateful for any attempt to help me out. This is some X-Files stuff going on here.

I am not the one who keep looking for thanks.
It is just that the people forget to thank the person who helped them.
Thats why I mention it on every post.
My SDcard just got worse.
Now it doesn't have a filesystem. Android reports it as blank, and Windows wants to format it because it has the RAW filesystem.
What's more, total space decreased to 30MB!
It's hard to lose all my multimedia files

OK, I have a backup image from CWM and Titanium Backup + Perseus CPU Governor, so I initially thought that they might cause this behavior, but it doesn't explain why formatting via Windows 7 seperately from my Note 2 didn't work.
I'm on stock 4.1.2, rooted, of course.

The android will surely report is as blank because you have formatted everything in ClockWorkMod.
Now all you have to do is go to settings > SD card and phone storage > Fomat SD card.
If it shows an error that "SD card is busy", then unmount it and then format it

Answer
You should have had a backup of everything present in the sd card to your computer.
I thought you had done it before. Even if you have formatted everything using a software in your computer, you would have deleted all your data.

I haven't formatted it lol.
I will describe:
- card suddenly unmounts itself
- Android remounts it and reports it as blank or having an unsupported filesystem
- went to Windows for confirmation, turned out that SDcard turned to RAW filesystem from FAT32
Basically I have a dead card.
