poco f1 or redmi note 8 pro? - Xiaomi Poco F1 Questions & Answers

im confused , plz answer.
is it worth buying poco f1 in September 2019? or should i wait for redmi note 8 pro?

Redmi note 8 pro has mediatek soc, meaning it doesnt support custom roms sadly. i think you should go for phones with sd855 soc, like k20 pro(mi9t pro) etc.

My budget is 18000 - 19000 rs

Couple of Weeks back I replied to similar Question HERE and HERE so I am going to Extract my answers because they are still valid
1. the follwoing member had RN7 and was thinking to buy Poco so I replied ...
Since you are coming from RN7 and looking for change then here is my honest advice for you, unless pocof1 is on huge Discount price, DONOT buy & wait and seriously consider buying upcoming A3plus
why?
I am using this device for last few months and this is my review about it
1. I wish, I wish and I WISH xiaomi would have released this device on Android One. the developers on xda would have done so much with it!
2. since its on typical miui10 and may go on 11, you won't feel much of a difference coming from Rn7 to F1... Accept the
3. huge usles notch on top which eats 70% of status bar! , its really annoying and design fault!
4. after unlocking, i am using havoc since day1 , because i found f1 screen veiwing angels not convincing enough and needs certain fix in TINT, COLOR, BRIGHTNESS by Kcal so I had to Root and Use HAvoc. Yes I could flash any kernel even on MIUI but there is strange policy of Navigation Bar in over all MIUI that it stays WHITE most of the time and KEYBOARD switch key NEVER appears on NAVBAR, its in notification panel! so if i have switch to English (swiftkey) to Urdu Gboard I must scroll down the quicksettings panel and located "switch input method" in list of notifications to select different keyboard! .. this is a huge bummer for me and because of this factor I am going to buy devices not having miui or keyboards in notification panel!
5. also PocoF1 has MODIFIED VENDOR image from Xiaomi hence tweaks like VOLUME BOOSTER only works on kernel level which is still NOT GOOD enough in my dictionary. when i was on RedmiNote5pro, I had always alter Mixer Path file in system/vendor/etc to 120 from 84 ( RX mix digital line) which use to give BOOMING sound to all music tracks! but on F1, even I raise the volume to 20 from 0, i still miss the RN5pro tweak because PocoF1's vendor folder don't have Mixer Patch.XML file to play with!
6. since modified vendor+firmware policy. pocoF1 gives strange system UI crashes on usb tethering for 3g connections. (there is a fix but its annoying)
7. on hardware side, the device gets HOT easily! yes it doesnt hang but it gets hot! and scares you! (even on custom roms and doze enabled)
my mind is set on A3Plus because its going to be on AndroidOne out of the box, 6gb / SD710 (which predominantly has better temperature and battery control w.r.t to SD845) and A3pro had very small notch.

1. only if you are getting GOOD Discount!
2. CrDroid is Good for PubG, but Havoc2.8 on Optimus Drunk Kernel is NEXT to Miui! (you can youtube "poco f1 on Havoc" and see for yourself)
3. on Havoc I get 6+ hours 4g social media Time.
4. I am high maintenance "sheldon Cooper" type person so for me any device has many issue but the following problems are with poco f1 (according to me)
a. Mixer Path file cannot be tweaked for Volume boost, only on kernel level which is still unsatisfactory for me. ( this is due to modified vendor+firmare image of poco f1 by xiaomi)
b. 3g usb tethering gives process crashing issues due to modified vendor firmware on all custom roms!
c. notch takes 60% of status bar
d. viewing angels arent that good! and kcal setting is must! but still often leaves me tears in eyes if i watch 2hrs of netflix movies!
e. no stereo speakers!
f. even on custom rom! device do get warm and later heats up! the software doesnt starts freezing/lagging but still disturbs me!
5. yes
6. wait little longer! and go for 5g phone with better display!

It's difficult to compare phone before there actual launch. Based on paper specs:
PocoF1
+ Better CPU (Speed wise and 10nm vs 12nm on MTK)
+ Better community support (Mediatek CPU phones normally don't get enough custom ROMs)
+ Better face unlock (since it has dedicated IR camera)
+ Better 4g (it has 4CA, not sure what RN8 will have but probably won't be more than 3CA)
+ Lighter in weight
+ AptX and stereo loud speakers
RN8 Pro:
+ Water drop notch (vs full sized notch on poco)
+ More variety & Modern Cameras (although performance will only be clear after review)
+ Better Screen (Likely but again only will be clear after launch)
+ IR Port
If your budget is 19k, better spend 3k more and get Redmi k20 or wait for a sale/bank offer to get in your budget. CPU is just a minor downgrade compared to Poco but you get everything else like notchless AMOLED screen, modern camera configuration, etc.

Poco is lot better than 5z. So unless you're getting a great deal on the 5z, its not worth considering

POCO F1 is the best phone you can get at ₹15K as it has second fastest Qualcomm processor. So don't worry just buy. But buy it from Amazon, because ₹1K cheaper in Amazon. Or else you can buy Asus Zenfone 5Z for ₹17K which is also a good option as it has great design & build quality and HiRes earphones in the box.

I can't decide which phone to buy. LeTvLe2 or Xiaomi Redmi Note 3

I'm planning to buy either the Redmi Note 3 or the Le2 and can't decide which is better.
I'll list the pro's and cons for each. I hop you guys can provide a sound argument for which is better. Both of these phones are priced the same at 11,999 INR. And both of them have very similar specs. Otherwise both of them have 5.5" 1080p displays, 16MP rear facing camera, all the same sensors.
LeEco Le2
1. Snapdragon 652 (4 a72 cores, 4 a53 cores)
2. USB type C port for CDLA audio (no 3.5mm headphone jack)
3. Thinner and Lighter than Redmi Note 3 (7.5mm and 154g)
4. Quick Charge 2.0
5. 3000 MaH battery.
6. No SD card support.
7. 8MP front facing camera
8. No custom ROM support (yet)
9. Fingerprint sensor detects at 0.150 secs
Redmi Note 3
1. Snapdragon 650 (2 a72 cores, 4 a53 cores)
2. 8.7mm thin and 164g
3. Quick Charge 1.0
4. 4000 MaH battery
5. SD card supported
6. 5MP front facing camera
7. Custom ROMs are avialable
8. Fingerprint sensor detects at 0.300 secs
So it seems to be a matter of wanting a thinner, lighter phone with updated specs in the case of Le2 Vs more battery and expandable storage but older specs.
I plan to flash custom roms soon, but I would like to know, if it's getting the latest specs that's better than having more usability(with extra battery life and storage capacity).
Please help. Any advice is welcome.
P.S I've owned a Moto E 1st gen, been on cm ever since it came out.
It all comes down to your opinion and preference, le2 doesn't have sd card support, usb type c headphone jack,it has good scope for custom ROMs as it has snapdragon processor but I came here to know if le2 has any active development but there is no seperate forum or thread for it yet it may be in the near future but redmi note 3 has a specific section already because it launched before le2
You can buy le2 if you feel 32 gb is enough and you will be content with it, if you are like me and will download large files like movies, songs of high definition play many games then you shold buy the redmi note 3 with 128 GB memory card support because 32gb just wouldn't be enough, I saw some place saying that redmi note 3 can even support up to 256 GB maybe don't remember where I saw it though
In performance le2 would have an upper edge but just a tad bit. But the camera lens of le2 looked ugly to me and i saw the comparison of both the phones cameras and the le2s camera was a BIG no-no for me because it captured day light pictures of flowers as if they were in low light, I was having the same doubt about which phone to buy so I researched a little bit for the camera review and found redmi note 3 to better just look it up in Google, bcoz I'm unable to post link here
Just hang around for a bit and see what goes on in xda regarding the development
The link to redmi note3 forum-
forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-3
There is development for both snapdragon and mediatek look out for available ROMs for snapdragon . And something called le2 pro with better specs than le2 is releasing soon just look it up.
And lol I am using the moto e 1st gen too on stock android and i typed all this on my phone
Both of those will be hard to get any real development as developers don't buy either of those devices.
So don't use development as any real way to determine if you are gonna get the device.
I've decided to go for the Redmi Note 3. But it doesn't seem to be in stock for now (Flash sales). Figured the Le2 wouldn't give me enough screen on time, I travel a lot, and GPS and 4g would kill that 3000Mah battery in two to three hours flat. (Lol, especially with Pokemon Go coming out and all). And I'm using the Moto e 1st gen too, cm13 . Camera doesn't have to be great. Come on... coming from moto e, you should know that, that phone didn't even have auto focus, leave alone low light performance XD. So I'm just looking for the best price to performance ratio phone for my budget.
And I was looking from more of a hardware perspective to buy a phone, rather than development. Thanks for replying on this post. :good:
Choose the more experienced one
LeTv is actually a pretty new phone developer, they have just started the phone marketing recently. Their TV is actually really nice. But Xiaomi has been doing smart phone for a few years already. Recommend you to get Redmi, because it might do better in a time base.

I ordered it a couple of days back, only snapdeal could deliver to my address. Should be here before 18th. This would be the first time I would be trying anything other than stock android (other than HTC sense from cupcake xD)

Don't forget to video record when your opening the package incase of fraud you can have it as proof, and if taken as cash on delivery call the courier person in and make somebody give him a glass of water while you open the package and then give him the cash, you have to be careful shopping online from flipkart and amazon, and extra careful shopping on snapdeal. And I like stock Android my moto e is almost stock android, but miui is much better and with the 3 GB ram its going to be super smooth.BTW my phone is arriving on Wednesday, can't wait XD
I already paid with credit card. Thing is, the courier is India post. But fortunately the post office is nearby and I know the delivery guy. So hopefully there shouldn't be any problem.
And thanks foe the video recording suggestion. I'll do that just in case.
But another problem has come up. Apparently it's difficult to unlock the bootloader for xiaomi devices now.

If you were to change...

Hi folks I just shattered the screen of my Redmi Note 3 SD version (RN3). I had this phone since early 2016 and though it's still working and I could prolly do a service job on it for $50 and extend its life to a year or so I feel sticking to this phone any further wouldn't be to my advantage.
So I'm in the market for a new phone and I would really love to hear your precious advise so I may get the best available option for my hard earned bucks.
My budget is around $350. I'm not a brand fan boi, I don't mind going for unknown brands if the build quality is there. B/C with a good build quality you can get the best out of your phone under XDA. So when I go for a smartphone the features I pay attention to are:
1-If the phone can handle recent games. If a phone can handle recent games odds are high that it will perform well in everyday life.
2-It must have a great community under XDA so that if the manufacturers aren't arsed to push updates, you can still get the best out of your phone by for e.g flashing a custom rom or the Google cam or flash the latest security patch and so on.
3-The camera specs should be good (not expecting pixel3 stuffs or p30 results), but should be able to take good shots when I go on road trips.
Having said that, phones that have caught my eye so far are the Huawei Y9(2019 version) and the Xiaomi Poco Phone F1. So what do you lads think!
The Huawei Y9 is out as per your stated requirements as they don't even allow bootloader unlocking. There might be unofficial methods. Poco F1 looks to be the best choice but I don't know if the initial issues like backlight bleeding, touch latency etc have been fixed. Redmi Note 7 Pro is another decent option but the price difference between its 6GB model and Poco F1 base variant is too little. Realme has opened up BL unlocking but the pace of development doesn't seem very encouraging. Otherwise the Realme 3 Pro appears to pack solid hardware. Dunno when the Poco F2 will be launched.

Wait for Mi A3 . not sure its launching date. it is android one device. Bootloader unlocking is very easy for android one phone.
Updates will given by google and not xiaomi. Also u will get 3 android updates. Spec will be same like rn7 pro.
Or buy rn7 pro. It has QC 4.0 charging and 4000mah battery.
From Kenzo, I used Tissot which is Mi A1 and now lavender which is Redmi Note 7.
Redmi Note 7 aka lavender as of now has very minimal development going on based on xda threads available. But the good thing is that it supports treble so gsi will provide you with a lot of custom rom and me myself is using a GSI now. Violet aka Note 7 Pro on the other hand has a better development than lavender. It has great camera too considering you are using gcam to full utilize the camera and also lavender's camera is Greta as well but not as good as violet. Lavender has Snapdragon 660 and violet has Snapdragon 675.

Planning to Buy Pocophone F1, want to you know your opinions?

Hello / As Salam o Alikum Guys
I was previously using Redmi Note 7 but now i want some change, i was thinking to buy Pocophone F1, but first i want to know your experience with this device.
My basic use multimedia and lite gaming (btw i never play Pubg
I have some questions in mind
1. Is it still worth buying in 2019?
2. Is the Camera, display and sound quality is good as compared with Redmi Note 7?
If you are kind enough, please share your valuable comments.
1. Yes it still is, the price for Poco has gone down significantly too 6GB+128GB is priced at ₹18,999 in India.

Thanks for your reply.
What about "2"
its worth buying in 2019 ONLY if you can guarantee your unit will not have a bad display and accordingly will not give you any hardware-related touch issues!
I advise you to read threads on poco f1 section on xda talking about touch issues to get an idea about how BAD it is then decide to buy or not!
Worth buying this phone, even if you can lose many hours tinkering around in order to achieve the best performance.
Poco f2 is almost on surface, i would suggest to get a new version rather buying almost 10 month old device it's a good phone.... Well you're the deciding party here.

I'm disagreement with point 7. This device heats up only when you play heavy games. And not too much... MIUI have some special thermal profiles that keeps temperature low.
About point 3, the notch is big, yes, but it gives IR camera which allows you to unlock you phone with the face on completely dark rooms.

I have heard all goody goody stuff about MI 8se but
1. a device having similar notch to poco
2. smaller battery to poco f1
3. no SD Card support
4. and having NO 3.5mm jack...
are you serious ???
how about if i say to you this...
wait longer! and buy device with qualcom new modem embeded to recieve 5g... ?
yes 5g is not released in your country (yet) but as Huwaie pushing 5g in 2019 and apple 12 pushing 5g in late 2020 , soon in 18months many countries will have 5g
so far Mi Mix 3 has 5g but like mi8 se it also don't have card slot nor 3.5mm jack so its a no go for me ~!

Yes you have points Yes 5G is in test phase currently in Pakistan, So i guess i should buy a RN5P for the time being and wait for a better option. Thank you so much for your advises
I'll be really honest and simple:
You will miss some "fancyness" from a flagship, specially in design or bezels, but since i got mine I don't remember what the word "lag" or "slow" means.
So, in fact is a practical phone. Get it
Check Note 9's pricing now, it should have gone down with the release of Note 10.

Poco F1 or Redmi ?

I know, on paper, its no contest, But I am trying to decide between Redmi Note 8 and Poco F1. The difference between them is only £40
These are the important factors for me, the first 4 are must haves.
Good Battery life
Good Custom ROM support (now and future)
Headphone socket
SD Card
Notification LED
Reasonable Screen
Reasonable performance, (no gaming and was content with Redmi 5 Pro 4Gb Snapdrgon 636 until it broke)
I know the Poco F1 is much higher spec, but I dont really like the look (ugly cut out at the top and big bezel at the bottom). Plus because Redmi 8 is newer, I thought maybe better support for custom roms, in the future.
What do you think ?
I just bought my mum a Redmi note 8. Gotta say, it's a really nice phone for the price. She loves it
The F1 beats it pretty much all round though - note 8 has (arguably) slightly better battery life, the ir blaster is a nice gimmick and you can get an NFC version of the note 8 (a feature which I really miss), though that one doesn't have a notification light
I'd suggest you wait a couple of months for the note 9, but I suspect you'd still be better getting an F1!
The Poco F1 wins on nearly every spec. CPU,Graphics, BT, Memory, etc. The only problem with it, is that huge notch, large chin and bezels scream 2018 (in my mind).
Thanks for letting me know about the Redmi Note 9, seems like its imminent
My fear is that all Redmi phones will follow the Redmit 8 pro and have a mediatek chipset, rumoured below. That will kill chance of custom roms,. noones interested developing for Mediatek,

That's true, that the note 8 pro has a mediatek soc, but it's supposed to be very good. If rooting is your thing (used to be mine but I just don't have time these days - plus I can live with MIUI on my f1)
Still it will be outperformed by the F1, plus the RN 8pro will likely cost a good bit more than the F1
The F1 is not likely to get more first party firmware upgrades though. If rooting is your thing, get an f1 and have fun for as long as the battery lasts (the specs should hold up for 3 or 4 years)
Or save up and get the F2 when it launches (assuming it's not a turkey)
I usually always go for function over looks. Just abit background, it was my Redmi Note 5 pro *(Whyred) which recently died on me. Its a 636 Chipset and had 4Gb of RAM. And for me, I had zero performance issues with it for 18 months. I guess I am a light user. Thats why, on balance the Redmi 8 might be better for me (looks etc).
Just a quick one, no definites of course, but the Redmi note 9 seems imminent ? i.e March ish ?
I do get what you are saying about custom roms and time. However, I dont mind,

Poco X2 would be a great choice for you.:good:
Redmi note8 pro is on MediaTek Gaming chip! with more Ram,
both are on LCD
however poco has advantage of many Custom roms! kernels etc where i don't think with note 8 pro you will enjoy this !
check xda forums for note 8 pro for custom roms and kernel status!
Kcal is must on lcd to to fix color saturation!

Advice Please! Is POCO F1 Armored Version 8GB 256GB good option for INR 16999/-?

POCO F1 Armored Version 8GB 256GB is available for INR 16999/- now.
I can get it for Rs. 12,299 with exchange of my old phone.
I am wondering if it's still a good phone in February 2020?
Would really appreciate your suggestion. Thanks!
Good budget phone. Becoz there is better soc now.
If you wait, in short time, Mi 10 Pro will be released.
I think that's great value (about €220 before trade in?)
Mi 10 pro will be expensive, but may lead to some further price reductions - I wouldn't have thought you'd get such a high spec F1 much cheaper though
Go for it
That's an amazing price. Just buy it

If you don't mind an okayish display and a big notch, this is the phone to get at this price point
Pros : Flagship SOC (crazy fast for EVERYTHING), rear fingerprint is a plus, fast charge, one of the most developer-supported devices on the earth, really good price point now, several gcam versions support, miui cam app via ANX cam.
Cons : Big-fat-ugly notch, average LCD hence color and brightness sub par, touch issues, slowly fading support due to latest xiaomi devices being handed to Poco F1 devs, sanity has almost stopped GCAM support.
Apart from these, plastic body is user-taste
I would say there are better options in this proce range because we hardly need crazy-fast speed during day-to-day usage, we look at the screen all the time so best screen is needed.
Hope this helps.
At this price, I advise you to buy it.

Samoled+mid range soc+decent cam
-M30s (reduce animation scale to 0.5x)
-Used oneplus/samsung flagship of previous year
-Mi A3
-Note 8 pro (the only 120 hz lcd on the list)
-realme X or 5 pro
Hope this helps.
@rajeshkoshti A few phones with nice screens there. I see the way you're thinking (albeit each has one or more weaknesses, often the camera, and though the F1 isn't perfect on that score, it's not at all bad especially with a gcam to your taste)
Just to say though, to hit the same price point you'd have to look for a 1+ or Samsung flagship from more than one generation back - remember, the F1 itself is a budget flagship from nearly 18 months ago
Bear in mind also that the F1 in question is top of the F1 range
Have to say, I'd still go for the F1, but it's good to have options!

Whaat?? - Note 8 pro (the only 120 hz lcd on the list)
Which phone?
Thank you guys! @rajeshkoshti Really appreciate the well articulated reply.
If I buy Poco F1 8GB 256GB Armored Version now, how long do you think I can use it? Will it last another 2-3 years and get support?

It will last surely for around 3-4 years . S845 and 8 gb ram is sufficient. Even s625 devices are okay for a normal user.
I have an Armoured edition poco, i advise you to go for normal version. You wont find a good case for armored one.
If you are using without a case go for armored edition. Its a beauty
Though if you have the armoured edition, you don't really need a case, surely?
In relation to updates, I wouldn't be so sure. Pocophone is a bit of an unknown quantity - Xiaomi (from my very limited experience) seem to be good about supporting their (huge) range of devices for a good few updates, but I've read concerns that the F1 may not get such longer-term love. However in a post-Treble world I'd naively hope developers will be able to keep it current for a few years yet
if you are a camera fan, forget poco f1, mi a2 has a far better camera.

This head to head review of the F1 Vs mi A2 cameras disagrees - probably not much in it, but the F1 wins

Fwiw I find the F1 with gcam takes pretty decent photos
