Need help regarding phone and fingerprint when in pocket - Xiaomi Mi A3 Questions & Answers

For some reason, my phone seems to get triggered in the fingerprint sensor A LOT when in pocket, is there any workaround to address this problem besides removing fingerprint for unlocking?

Stop wearing skinny jeans ??

Everytime I'm playing a game and my hand covers the sensor, the display turns off. This is extremely irritating and only a reboot fixes the issue. Is there any solution to this?

Fingerprint Scanner Problem in 6.0 MM

Hi guys!
I really love this phone, but I have a really, really, really annoying bug. I have only 2 days with this phone (MM updated since the first day). When I try to unlock with my finger it works most of the time, but in some occasions it ask me for the knock code or the pin directly, giving me no chance to use my fingerprint to unlock the phone. This is really annoying because I want to use the fingerprint sensor to unlock the phone and it does not let me. Does anyone have the same problem with the V10? Any ideas for a possible solution? Thanks a lot!

We have this problem too and assume you are using a third party launcher (Nova, Google, etc). Switch back to LG stock launcher and it fixes the problem. Think it has something to do with the lockscreen permission changes from Lollipop to Marshmallow.

I'm actually using Nova. I will switch back to LG Stock Launcher (uggly, by the way), and I'll tell you if it worked or not for me. I'm thinking on the same about te permissions in MM. There is no way to upgrade permissions from the settings or something like that to keep using a third party launcher?
Thanks a lot for the help!

I ran with LG's launcher for the past couple of weeks and since the recent beta updates to Nova shows no sign of a solution, I've reverted back to Nova and just switched to pattern unlock for the time being.
You know, even using nova, you can double tap the notification bar to turn off, and still use the fingerprint to unlock.

^ Incase anyone of you missed it, the finger print scanner works if you double tap the notification on Nova Launcher to lock the screen.
hi guys... i too have issue with finger print... my problem on MM is that i cannot even set up a finger print.. its like hard ware issue.. but i do hope its a software issue...

Try to factory reset, or change the unlock method to a different one, and then go back to fingerprint.
already did.factory reset by lg bridge..hmmmm
. i do hope its only a s/w issue. huhuhu
may due to mainboard problem
i also met this problem.
after restart, restore or refresh kdz, nothing changed...
my model is LG V10 H961N
i have this issue also. dont know what to do

Speak for yourself.
I'm on MM on my H960A AND I'm using Nova Launcher since the first day. Never had this issue. I only had a problem once after unlocking the bootloader. You have to enable "OEM unlock" in the developer settings prior to unlocking the bootloader and I did not disable that option again afterwards. The fingerprint sensor did not work at all with this setting enabled. You can register new fingerprints but unlock does not work.
Since I disabled this option I have no issues with Nova and fingerprint. Should you have unlocked your bootloader as well make sure you disable "OEM unlock" again.
I'm on MM and using Nova prime but I don't have any problems with the Fingerscanner!

Hi!
I have this phone for 4 days and i had the same problem like you,
I use to lock my screen with third party applications like:
Greenify or Screen Off and Lock
And for this i have the same problem like you,
If you had the third party application for locking your phone, you can uninstall them or lock your screen by double top or power button.
Good Lock!

Try this...
I've had this problem also. It seems to have started after a security update from T-Mobile.
Try this fix and let me know how it works for you:
Follow these steps:
1)Goto settings -> fingerprint & security -> fingerprints -> then delete all fingerprints
2)Then goto apps -> switch to show system apps(im using 6.0) -> find com.lge.fingerprints then remove data and cache memory.
3)Goto storage & usb -> clear cached data
4) Then restart your V10
5) After that, add fingerprints in fingerprint lock then it detects your finger.
If it doesn’t detect your finger, repeat the steps.

You may have to repeat this process as sometimes, I've heard, the problem reoccurs.

Double tap to wake

Does Mate 10 has the double tap to wake feature?
No and i haven't found a non-root solution for it either.
Wow that's such a shame... The mix and matching of features across these Huawei devices is becoming really frustrating. There's no reason why only the Chinese version of the Mate 9 had this feature.
I don't think you really need a double tap to wake. A simple touch of the fingerprint sensor wakes the phone quickly.
Exactly, that fingerprint scanner is ridiculously fast!

For the 10 Pro, that functionality is useful. It's just weird some of the choices made for an otherwise great phone. It's unfortunate.

Copyright issues with LG. But there are 3rd party apps for Samsung that put an icon on Always on display and you just double tap on that icon to wake. I guess its not different to Samsung having a home key always turned on even when screen off. So Huawei should as well implement something similar to have icon on the Always on display and click or hold or whatever is best gesture on that to turn on the screen.
End of the day its still a two step process in the least over the single step process of front fingerprint sensor. The small bezels means no way a front fingerprint could fit there and so there needs to be a long term solution. LG type reliable face unlock feature would help in many scenarios as well and its comparatively easier to partially lift and look at the phone from a desk then double tap and scribble the password.
There is also Huawei's strong security measures to overcome. My current Huawei does not allow using anything other than a pin password for unlock when you have the fingerprint activated. So thats four extra screen taps compared to the Pattern type password (which cannot be used when fingerprint activated).

What app that works with fingerprint without pin
Enviado desde mi ALP-L09 mediante Tapatalk
my ex oneplus 3t has this feature. how only lg has it?
Surely it's obvious this would be useful when the phone is laying on a desk/table (on its back) when the fingerprint sensor is not accessible? Double-tap to wake would be awesome on this device. Just got it, and it's my only (at this stage) gripe.
Same here
I hope some update fix this

How do I turn the Proximity sensor off?

Through testing I have determined that the "phone-going-automatically-to-speakerphone", any time I pull my head more than five inches fro the screen during a call, is due to the proximity sensor. It was not like this before the latest update.
I defeated this by placing a tiny piece of black electrical tape over the proximity sensor.
I would rather just turn the proximity sensor off, or at least turn the "automatically going to speaker phone) function off, but in past requests no one seemed to know how to do that.
So, I am left with just turning off the proximity sensor off.
Anyone know how?
Thanks.

Why did you open a new thread when you had already started this one on the same topic?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/help/v30-automatically-goes-speakerphone-t3886240
My US998 20G (January 2019 security update) does not have that proximity sensor/automatic speakerphone feature.
I would love that feature, because if I need to check something on my phone during a call, I can keep listening/talking to the person on the call. It's actually a feature you can enable on many custom ROMs, like Resurrection Remix.
I'm curious why you do not like it?

You can try this:
Settings/General/Acessability/Vision/Talkback/Settings/Use Proimity Sensor - turn off.
There's also various apps that claim to turn off/disable proximity sensor.
You may be able to enter the H932 hidden menu and turn off the proximity sensor.

Should I install it to disable something else?
And WHAT secret hidden ninja invisible menu?
Thanks!

See post #1 of the link I included.
The hidden menu has calibration, and other technical features not available to normal people, thus it's called the "hidden menu". Be very careful messing with anything in there, however. One time I screwed up something in there and had to do a Master Reset (got stuck on one LTE band).

That came up when doing Google search for disabling proximity sensor. Some handicapped people need to bring the phone very close to their face without the screen going dark, so that was the suggestion for them on how to turn off proximity sensor. I thought it might work for you also.
What you want to do is very unusual -- turn off proximity sensor to disable a feature only you seem to be complaining about. I'm just trying to give information.
Thank you Chazzmatt! I wasn't trying to seem like I didn't appreciate the help.
For me it doesn't work because I work with my phone and it going automatically into speakerphone ode reveals Private client information to others who may be standing nearby.
But thanks. I figured out how to make it work. I simply places a tiny (one eighth of an inch) piece of black electrical tape over the sensor, and now it's fine.
Thanks again.

Hall Sensor Causing Wakelocks

This is driving me crazy so if someone is able to assist then I will be massively grateful.
For some reason it seems like the Hall sensor is causing my phone to never enter deep sleep. I have tried playing around with power settings, full factory resets, all to no avail. I'm not sure it's a hardware issue as all sensors appear to function fine in tests.
Any idea how to approach this?
Are you using a smart-cover?
If yes try it without it and disable Smart-cover option in Settings-Smart Assistance-Smart-cover.
If not, also disable the option.
Also enter bootmenu and empty system cache.
Hall sensor explained here https://www.quora.com/What-is-the-use-of-Hall-effect-sensors-in-smartphones
Thank you for the reply. I'm not using any smart cover, only an outer case that covers the back and sides. I also removed the case to see if that was a variable making a difference but the wakelock persists. The setting for smart covers in settings was already set to off.
I cleared the cache like you suggested but that also didn't change anything.
Oh that's a bummer. I'm sorry but further I have no tip's.
Good luck!
Op try turning off all sensor gizmos and then check.
