How do you flash a GSI ROM? - Xiaomi Mi A3 Questions & Answers

I've been searching for a while now and I've been trying to flash this AOSP Android Q ROM, but it just boots up to the Bootloader, indicating I did something wrong. So would anyone care to indicate how to properly flash GSI ROM into this device?

Question about installing RR or LOS on my RN4 (Snapdragon)

Hey guys, I'm a bit new to the world of custom ROMs, so apologies if I come across as an idiot.
First of all let me start of with saying that I know a bit about installing custom ROMs because I've been experimenting installing custom ROMs on my old Moto G (2013). So far I've successfully installed RR, LOS and AOSP extended as well has rooting it with SuperSu (just so I could change fonts on LOS), without any problems. So I know the basic 3-steps like, 1. Unlock bootloader, 2. install twrp, 3. backup, wipe(system, data, cache, dalvik ) and finally install. I assumed installing custom ROMs on every device would be the same.
But then, I've been viewing these forums a lot just to get more info and learn more about stuff. I've come across threads like this one (https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-4/help/unable-to-install-resurrection-remix5-8-t3673989), where people are unable to install roms and are suggested to install the developer rom using MiFlash tool, which I don't know anything about. And this isn't the first time I'm seeing such threads. I've seen t least 2 other threads like this but I can't link them because I can't find them.
So my question is:
Will the method I use to install custom ROMs on my Moto G work the same way on my RN4? or do I really to to follow other steps to install these ROMs?
Yes, that method will work.
Flashing with MiFlash is needed when you mess things up and you want to restore the phone to the original state. MiFlash is basically an automated method to flash via fastboot, a GUI for fastboot.
In some phones, there are some particular partitions that contains "drivers" to make the device works. These "drivers" (it's truly called firmware) needs to be updated to make the phone works with latest Android versions. The latest firmware is found on latest official developer ROMs and unofficial Xiaomi.eu ROMs.
Many custom ROMs like LOS an RR needs the latest firmware installed to work properly, but they don't include it in their .zip files, so that's why I suggest to flash the latest developer ROM before installing a custom ROM. This way all the partitions will be updated before, and the custom ROMs will find the latest firmware and will work fine.
You can also find the firmware as a flashable .zip (to flash before the custom ROMs .zip) in this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/re.../firmware-firmware-update-2017-08-04-t3651537
(you can find the newest version in the last posts of the thread).

Roms not booting up!

Hi! I have a weird issue. Any new roms like 7.1.2, 8.0etc are just not booting up in my redmi note 3. I always get stuck at the boot logo. The phone vibrates and hints as if it is going to boot up boot its not. The process continues and the phone doesn't boot up. It works all fine with the older roms. But with newer version the roms dont boot up. I tried several roms like Nitrogen,RR,Linege OS etc. But newer versions of both Nougat and Oreo roms don't boot up. I don't have any clue of what to do now. I have zcx twrp installed and have officially unlocked the bootloder. Please if anyone have any insight regarding the issue it will be helpful.
Thank You.
Check whether the bootloader is still unlocked by commands. Twrp in this case, is useless so flash MIUI official rom & again unlock officially.
Make sure you wipe everything in Twrp if the command says bootloader is unlocked.
Try flashing LazyFlasher after the ROM. Also, are you flashing the recommended firmwares before flashing the ROM?
Update modem (firmware). Either by: flashing latest MIUI Beta fastboot rom or from here

Going back from OpenKirin RR to EMUI

EDIT: I figured it out myself, for anyone else in the same situation: I downloaded the proper Stock Rom for my phone and just flashed it with fastboot flash, no custom recovery was needed. After that I simply flashed Lineage OS and it's working like a charm.
Hello, I recently switched back to an Android phone that's why I'm a bit rusty. I successfuly installed Resurrection Remix on my Huawei P20 Lite.
After realizing there is no Notch support I decided to go back to stock or switch to Lineage OS.
Now I have two questions:
1) On the OpenKirin page it says you need stock EMUI 8.0 before you apply one of their ROMs. Does this mean if I want to switch to Lineage OS I need to go back to stock EMUI or can I go from RR to Lineage?
2) I downloaded 'Huawei P20 Lite-ANE-LX1 8.0.0.144(C432).zip' from xda which is supposed to be the stock rom. In the instructions on here it says I need to install TWRP. However OpenKirin says their ROMs don't work with TWRP. Can I just flash the stock firmware with adb fastboot, like described in the OpenKirin FAQ?
So my question basically is, what do I have to do to go from RR with stock recovery back to stock EMUI?
im in the same problem.. my fone brick in twrp logo.... i dont know how pass this logo
You can use eRecovery to download the entire ROM, you need the stock recovery and flash it with fastboot (fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk recovery_ramdisk.img) then go to the recovery mode and download the rom using WiFi and that's all, as advice I recomend you always make a system backup in the sdcard using TWRP. Sorry for my bad english. You can dowload the recovery here

What file did you flash in fastboot, the full-ota file?

Question How to install custom rom

Hey guys, I know this is a vague question but I am facing problems after problems trying to install a single custom rom.
The Problem:
I have installed many custom roms over the years in A only partition devices. But ever since the introduction of A/B partition, those old guides are not proving useful and steps have become way too complicated. This is my first A/B device so I am somewhat of a noob here
My situation:
I have a Redmi Note 10 (sunny/mojito) (RKGINXM 12.5.6)
Bootloader is unlocked
Booted latest official Twrp (3.6.1 mojito) via the following commands fastboot boot twrp.img
I would like to install pixel experience so could anyone give a somewhat simplified guide. Would be greatly appreciated. Thank You

don't know why peeps are struggling a lot while installing custom roms... i learned at the first time it's very easy.
PE recovery is recommended for flashing roms and a MicroSD Card...
1) Flash PE Recovery fastboot flash boot recovery.img
2) Flash MIUI 13 FW
3) Reboot to Recovery
4) Format Data
5) Flash ROM
6) Reboot and done
For flashing latest Pixel Experience you need to flash MIUI 13.0.5 FW (it's developer instruction if you want to skip it don't complain for bugs later)

It did work thanks. But this is only useful as far as we opt for PE. Could you tell for other ROMs as well

Question Custom rom from a12 c10?

Hey, since a12 my battery drain is **** and the general experience is kinda trash. Is it possible to put a custom rom on a phone that has never been rooted? I tried fastbooting, nothing, tried unlocking the bootloader, nothing. Am I doing something or is it impossible to put custom roms now
You need rollback to Android 11. Then unlock bootloader, flash twrp.
On oos is not yet possible to enter fastboot mode.
