Screen wont turn off unless it's charging? - Samsung Galaxy A80 Questions & Answers

First post, thanks for having me.
Got an A80, it locks with the power button, but the screen stays on showing the lock screen and wont turn off? It only turns off when it's on charge.
Done a soft reset, volume down + power button but no joy. turned off the "smart lock" and the "always on display" but still the same.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance, Huw

I don't know what's the problem for phone.Same problem tho.

Found this on another website:
Had the same problem today, and now I don't- Here's How:
App Store -> Search for "wakelock" first thing that came up for me was Wakelock Detector. Ran it, and found out the Sixaxis Compatibility Checker was running for around 8 hours despite Advanced Task Killer reporting that it was terminated. Needless to say as soon as I did that my settings kicked in and powered off/locked the screen after 15 seconds.
Make sure before doing this that your settings under "Lock Screen-> Secured Lock Time" and "Display-> Screen Timeout" are set appropriately.
Worth a shot! Hope it helps you!

[Q] cannot wake up from sleep

Hi,
my new archos 101 often cannot wake up after sleep (deep sleep or screen timeout).
tried many methods: wifi disabled, battery booster, flight mode, sounds disabled... no luck.
i installed new fw, 2.1.8 and arctool with markets and google app and some games.
uninstalling maps and disabling wifi location didnt help. whats strange, is that sometimes screen turn on after 30s+ seconds..
i am new, but is there any way to check what's a process blocking it?
write to logs or connect via usb and check?
help very much appreciated
I'm having the same problem...
I just keep pressing the on/off button until the screen turns on. Didn't find a fix yet.
>>> i installed new fw, 2.1.8 and arctool with markets and google app and some games.
those were my 1st steps with archos, so dont know if it works in previous firmware.
right now, i dont want to do hard reset.
There is allready a discussion about this.
It seems that after the press, the archos is waking up, but the displaylight itself doesn't come up.
If you switch the display to abough 30% ( Settings/Display ) this doesn't happen again.
NOT kidding: the Archos has trouble turning on when cold. Try warming it on the radiator if its <15 degrees celcius.

success!
turned out, it is TRUE... 30% solved it!
btw, pretty ridiculous bug..

30% of what? Increased brightness? I went to settings/display and couldn't find percentage level
As i don't have an english version, i can't tell you what you should read there,
but which other setting in display has percentages?
no % displayed, but just set if for 1/3 of the progress bar.
Jeezus, i cant believe it, but i can confirm that it's a brightness setting issue. It's so ridiculous but it's true. I have been frantically trying to find a solution to this problem for the past 30 mins, and turning the brightness setting to 40% worked to restore the screen after the soft sleep mode, when previously i had to keep rebooting the damn thing by longpressing the power button. THANKS A MILLION, GUYS!
Ohh i see i am not alone = ]
Thank you for the Workaround!

[Q] Multitasking / screen off / facts & fiction

Does anyone know or could point me toward information about how to impact the multi tasking in Android.
The problem is:
- Somehow 'screen off' event is linked with the activation of 'deep sleep'. Now that's all nice and well but it's interrupting downloads and stopping appplications (try it with dolphin browser during a download, try turn off your screen with angry birds on, etc)
- Multitasking seems random: you can download market apps, move to angry birds, and play while it downloads, but you can't play angry birds, move to market app, and go back where you were in angry birds (it will restart the whole game).
Can anyone clarify the above? Thank you.
Turning the screen of will send the phone into deep sleep unless something is holding a wakelock, downloads should hold one till they finish, and if they are not, it's a bug.
As far as multitasking goes, yes it does seem random, and very much depends how the application was coded to deal with it, it seems that ICS will deal with this by adding a dedicated multitasking button.
Android will kill background inactive tasks as and when needed, but again it depends if the app was designed to hold its state in the background or dump out. And in low memory situations, which we shouldn't really get on the sgs2 it will start aggressively killing stuff in the background.

Do you have the setting "wifi off when display is off" ? That could disturb/stop download I guess..
Thank you. The reason of course is that I'm trying to use the phone as a 'mini computer' and on your pc you can off course turn off the screen while downloading files and doing some background processing.
The solution for me so far is to accept that the screen must be on when doing anything that takes time, so I have it set to never turn the screen off while charging, and have a widget that takes brightness down to 0% in a single click.
I suppose I just have to accept that the phone will eventually be outdated and the screen would die long after that - so 'using' the screen is not that big a deal.

Really? What ROM are you using? I'm on Cog 1.5. I *thought* it was a stock option, maybe it's a ROM specific one.

I have actually been happy that with my device, I can actually start a download, using either stock or opera browser (haven't tried others) and not have to keep the screen on and have the download finish. Not only for screen timeout, but actually pressing the button to turn it off. With windows mobile 6.x, pressing the sleep button killed data, and only push mail or scheduled things (usually/hopefully) would "wakelock" the phone enough to receive something. It worked very poorly.
I honestly think you have a bug somewhere, because you should not have to leave the screen on for long periods of time just to let a download finish.

[Q] Disable wake on charge

Every time I plug my phone in via USB or place on an inductive charger, the screen turns on. I never want this to happen. Is there any setting or hack to disable? I blame OCD for not wanting to wait for the screen timeout. I tried using Tasker to set the display timeout to the minimum value of 7s only when on any power source, but it still timed out at the system setting. I have a rooted Droid 4 with the stock ROM, but this applies to any Android phone.
This doesn't seem unreasonable. If you set your phone down to charge, doesn't that mean you're done using it for now? This is difficult to search for, because the same search terms lead me to the "stay awake while charging" threads.

I'd like to know if there's a solution to this too. I find now that the only time I ever end up pocket dialing is when I take my phone off my charger, THINK i've pressed the power button to go back to sleep but didn't and thus pocket hilarity ensues
I know what u mean but there is defnetly a function where it may be disabled
ive seen it i may guarantee this
the bad thing is i forgot where...
i searched through my stock rom and found nothing so i guess ive seen this in a cyanogenmod rom :/
have a try
Its funny, because I'm trying to do the opposite. I installed my android tablet [novo 7 elf] into my car, and I used to be on a ROM whereby whenever I turn the engine on it would charge the tablet and therefore the screen would turn on. However now I've got a jellybean port this functionality does not work because of the sleep timer which has a max of 30 mins.
Any ideas on how to disable this functionality?

If you're screen always stays on while charging, then try this:
- goto SETTINGS- Developer options - uncheck "stay awake while charging"

Indeed.
Am looking for the same thing. really hate the fact that when it goes in the charger I continuously have to turn off the device.... not cool.
Hopefully someone comes with a solution.
only thing for now is use Locale and a plugin screen off (.99 cents) which will probably turn off the screen if you plug it in. haven't tried it though.
Maybe the "charging now" notification is what wakes the phone up when it begins charging, and maybe that notification can be removed somehow, but I know nothing of how those are set up in the background.

FYI, I tried this again since upgrading to ICS on my Droid 4, and it totally works. I just set up a Tasker profile: When Power=AC or USB, Display Timeout = 7s. It shuts off in 7s when on my inductive charging pad, and the system setting of 1 minute when off the pad.

Sadly, it's two dollars, but this seems to be what you're looking for.
Option 1:
Install Xposed or other, I don't remember clearly...
Option 2:
With Tasker
-Power: Any AC
-System Lock
why it isn't possible to disable it without xposed?
know this is an old thread but just curious if there is a way to not have the display turn on when it reaches 100% while charging?

Old thread again but in Nougat, it's Settings/Display/Wake on plug, Disable.
Well now this thread is even older :*)
There is a app named "All My..." it contains no wake on charge. It should be a former xposed app that work on most phones so feel free to try.

2021! Still looking for this.
2022 and it's ongoing. Who would want the screen to turn on when plugged in. On an LG phone you even get an annoying buzz which cannot be disabled even if in silent mode.

[Q] Keeping screen on

Could anybody advise me if the following is possible?
I use my S3 in my car, plugged into a powered Brodit cradle.
From here, I play music (and sometimes use Co-Pilot).
The issue I have is that the screen keeps switching off (when SatNav isn't on), after a set period.
I want the screen to be permanently on, when I'm driving, so if I glance at the handset, I can see what's playing/coming next etc.
The maximum timeout I can see in the settings is 30 mins, which isn't even remotely long enough for me.
The developer option of keeping the screen awake doesn't seem to be available on the S3.
I've tried Tasker, and setting up a profile to keep the screen awake when plugged in, but it doesn't seem to work. (also the screen still dims, even before switching off).
I've also tried Widgetsoid and having a switcher set up to keep screen permanently on, but that still dims too.
Is there an app available, that would do what I'm looking for maybe?
Many thanks.
I had wondered about this too.

I hope you realize you will most likely damage you display with burn-in , one of the few example i have heard of burn-in happening is with car-navigation.
You can keep your brightness low as possible, also using a product like "display tester" run the burn-in recovery regulary.
Though it would be recommended you buy a dedicated gps-sat nav.
John.
If that's what you want, install extended controls from market and add "screen always on"] toggle to your desktop
《tapatalked from galaxy s3》
Hmm, thanks for the advice on buying SatNav. That won't help much with the music player, which is my main issue. (The handset stays on when using SatNav, which is obviously required when using it).
I've used all my previous phones (iPhones, HTC's etc in this way, and not suffered any burn-in. I'd be suprised if I get burn in after an hour's drive home, but I'll take the risk.).
You may tap the screen every 29 minutes actually lol.

 Not ideal, but i'm already doing that when I remember.
I think I may have found a solution.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=gr.androiddev.ScreenOn&hl=en
Seems to allow me to select an app which, when active, will keep the screen alive, but when not active, will shut off like normal.
If this works, it's great.
Thanks again guys.
Try Keepscreen from the play store. I use navigation approximately 6 hours weekly previously on my S2 and now my S3, no need for a dedicated GPS.
For anyone else who stumbles across this page, and wants to keep their screen on playing music in the car, I solved my issue in the end by using Power Amp, which has a built in option to keep the screen alive.
I use PowerAMP too, so have that option already also.
However, I do still want the basic option which was present on my previous Android phone to make the screen stay alive whenever the device is operating on external power (it was in the Developer section before, but seems to have disappeared).
I don't mind if the screen dims a little, but I don't want it to turn itself off while the power cable is attached (although I could always do it myself, using the power button, if I want).
Otherwise, when running on batteries, I DO want it to timeout and turn off as usual after 30 seconds. Including when I'm playing music in PowerAMP on battery power.
Is this an ICS issue, or a Samsung vs. HTC one?
Andre
"Keepscreen" and "screen on" does the same, keeps the screen on .
It's just what u prefer
I've installed Screen On which seems to do the trick, just wondering where the Android system option went to?

Stay Awake
1. Open the settings
2. Click on 'About device'
3. Click on 'Build number' 7 times
4. Go back to settings screen and you will see 'Developer options'. From here you can access the 'Stay Awake' function again.

How to change screen timeout/sleep settings

Can anyone tell me how to change the screen timeout/sleep time on the M5? I've tried display, battery and security settings but it doesn't appear to be in any of them. It's a real pain trying to read emails, news, flipboard etc with the standard (30 seconds?) timeout.

Just discovered it is under Display/Sleep. But Sleep option is greyed out.
*UPDATE* Aha! Power saving mode was on. It must be enabled by default because I can't think why I would've enabled it. Sorted now.

I've had the CMR-W09B for a week now and found that when I change the sleep time it always reverts to the default 30 seconds after a while. Power saving mode not active. Installed Screebl Pro to manage timeout, but unlike my many other devices using the app, it seems to be overridden by the system and doesn't work. Whether Screebl is active or not, or what I set the timeout to, the timeout returns to 30 seconds.
This happening to anyone else, or am I just special?
