SM-A102U Root Supported? (Boost) Would love to build for A10 devices! - Samsung Galaxy A10 Questions & Answers

SM-A102U (exynos) user here. I take it this method is not compatible with this device? And before I can even try, I'm not willing to wait 7.5 hours or else PAY for manual device update files. If there is an alternate solution to download these update files, I'm all ears. I've worked with lower-end devices in the past making/modifying roms and kernels and would LOVE to throw some support to this community considering the overwhelmingly positive response to my previous works (unfortunately no longer in development)

You just need to wait 7 hrs (or was it days?) after enabling Dev Settings and USB debugging. Then OEM unlock will appear. (Pro Tip adjust date and time with Airplane mode on and reboot device).

doesnt work cuz usa variants arent unlockable

Not sure if it makes matters a difference, but, adb shell let's me use setprop sys.oem_unlock_allowed 1.
Checked with getprop and it does change. Isn't that what usually changes according to the "OEM Unlock" toggle, or am I mistaken?

Unlock S6 Bootloader

Hello XDA, I've been wanting to root my S6 for a while now, and i think you can do it with adb. So when trying this i noticed i needed an unlocked bootloader, and i thought i had it because i had CRom service on my S6, but never opened it. When i did, it just crashed. Now, i'm not sure if I can just use
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
or i need something else. I'm on Mac so i am very, very limited. I at least can get adb to work. If i can use adb and or fastboot to unlock my device's bootloader (without messing DM Verity) then please tell me right away.

What variant s6 do you have?
Go to Settings - About Device - Build number. Tap on that repeatedly until you see that Developer Options has been enabled.
Go back to Settings. You will now see a new entry called Developer options. Tap on that.
Under Developer options you will see OEM Unlock. Switch that to On.
And you are done! Just that easy!

It's not that easy, the option is called "Allow OEM unlocking" which I already have turned on. All that option does is allow the bootloader to be unlocked.

What version android are you on, btw the user previous is correct, once you use OEM unlock all you need to do is flash cf-autoroot, OEM unlock make sure that after rooting the phone does not trip frp and just lock you out of your device.

Ok, I'm on 6.0.1 (Y is Samsung so slow when releasing updates) and a quick reminder: I'm on Mac, how am I supposed to flash CF-autoroot?
And I got confused by "make sure after rootingthe phone does not trip frp and just lock out of your device" Do you mean to be careful not to brick my device?

FRP is factory reset protection, if you don't allow OEM unlock when after you have carried out root and try to log into phone again you won't be able to do so, it's a security feature, frp is very tricky and it's important you make sure you have OEM unlock enabled before trying to do anything. You can use a software called heimdall which is similar to Odin and can be downloaded for mac. Yeah samsung always rolls out updates for international before anything else, just how they work. Before doing anything I highly advise you to visit the g920t forums, you will get more info there than you will here on the international forum. I hope you manage to get things done

Thanks for pointing that out. I don't know why I expect people to be grateful on XDA, just because someone tries to help them.
Using a Mac, you flash files using Heimdall: http://glassechidna.com.au/heimdall/
Ok so I think I'm good to go:
I attached some screenshots checking if everything is correct. Also, is http://glassechidna.com.au/heimdall/ the correct and official site to get Heimdall? And my device's build is G920TUES5DQD1 which was released a few days ago, and I'm not sure if the CF auto root file was based on an earlier update. Will I still be able to use it?
is g920v bootloader unlockable?
is it possible to downgrade thanks to this oem unlock?

As far as I know, and what has been the fact since the release of the 920V, there's has been no known case where the bootloader has been unlocked. Due to Verizon's restrictions, the S6 is hardlocked. The only way that it might ever be unlocked is if someone reverse engineers the bootloader software, creating an unlocked version that can be flashed, and that will still pass the phone's security checks. I wouldn't hold your breath for it though, because it's been 3 years and no solution yet.
i had same issues

Most Samsung phones are unlocked, Only a small percentage of Samsung phones has locked bootloaders. Just pop a different carrier SIM and make sure it works, If different sims work then your device has an unlocked bootloader.

That is incorrect, what you are referring to is carrier locked. and is done to most phones sold in the US. Most can be unlocked once fully paid for and after 90 days of service.
Bootloader lock has nothing to do with sim cards at ALL!! It does have everything to do with being able to install other roms and firmware via non official sources.

Wanting to root new CAT S61

Hello,
As the title says, I'm wanting to root my new CAT S61. Anyone managed to unlock the bootloader yet? I've played around with it but haven't had any luck so far.
+1, Me too. Just started debating them on facebook, to maybe have some pressure on to unlock the bootloader the nice way. Until that I am ready to donate. I really miss htc sense, coming from 10-year htc spree.
I have had a few email and chat exchanges with them but haven't made any progress in getting them to provide any help in unlocking the bootloader but I still have my fingers crossed. And yes, I miss htc sense also.......I didn't think I would. FYI, I downloaded Nova Launcher and I set to look much like sense.
I've also been on to their support team looking for assistance with this..... Massively unhelpful...
I asked them about possibilities of unlocking the bootloader (I usually void every warranty covering computer equipment I own within days of owning devices) and I was told along the lines of "No. This will void the warranty so we would not allow this on the device.".... Its MY device and MY warranty to void ffs!
Really gets on my tits the attitude they took.
Anyway, am thinking that unlocking the bootloader may end up like a long wait and a bit of a chore; however if anyone is able to get a dump of the stock image it would surely be possible to patch the image with Magisk then "fastboot flash" it back onto the Cat S61?
This should at least give SU access (for busybox and all that lovely stuff) as well as keeping all the FLIR/proprietary laser/VOC sensor stuff.
EDIT: I've got in touch with Bullitt Group directly instead of going through Cat, and am awaiting a reply from them regarding acquiring a factory image I can play around with... Hopefully they will be able to supply it to me!
Regarding unlocking the bootloader, I haven't tried myself yet (because I haven't got around to getting my laptop OS installed again... That's another story entirely involving bad decisions with Kali lol) but if you boot the phone into bootloader mode (power on the device by using either volume up or volume down and power button or the adb reboot bootloader command via USB). Then you may be able to use the fastboot flashing unlock command to unlock the bootloader...
I really miss the sense freestyle themes, where there is no grid and you pick a theme with background image(can be changed) and stickers (just some themed icons with different sizes). Then you place your stickers and assign apps to them. I myself used an archtecure theme, where there were stickers varying feom minimalistic monopoly houses up to vertically big skyscrapers and horizontally long trains. For my gf I made nature theme with nice summer bliss and clouds, deers, rabbits, butterflies and birds. Its just so customizable. I hate being restricted to grids or standard sizes icons or their 2x, 4x and so on.

LTE_D0201121.0_S61_0.040.02 is the build I'm on as well, so don't worry too much... However I've been on this build since sometime in July, so don't know why you've only just got the OTA ?
Anyway, the other thought I have been having is trying to port across a custom recovery from the Motorola Moto X4. Same chipset, same RAM, same board and same screen resolution, so it just might work... Once I get hold of a flash dump and unlock the bootloader that is ? I'm getting a bit ahead of myself!
Just received another OTA, September 1st patch, LTE_D0201121.0_S61_0.046.02. Radio is LTE_D0201121.1_S61 after the update. This one was larger, but I forgot to screenshot the exact changes and size.

I will not buy it until it is rootable.
Nope, no luck as of yet... Nothing I seem to try is giving me any options or progress.
Rather frustrated carrying round 2 devices lol one for root apps and the s61 for everything else!
Still impressed at the phone though, VERY utilitarian!
Hey there, I will get my S61 tomorrow.
Was hoping for any root idea, but will hopefully survive without until we have the privilege to get it
... and there is no option in the programmer options (unlock bootloader)?
Did not stumble upon such a function yet.
The most annoying thing without root is missing a good ad blocking. dns66 seems to work, but there are still plenty of ads in apps that get through...
Also having potentially all power unlocked would be great!
So no news here I guess?
To enter bootloader:
1.switch of your phone
2.press volume down
3.conect the power cable

I've been looking at this phone for some time. I was able to get a Moto Z2 Force from Verizon into EDL mode with simple commands, so I'm wondering if you can unlock this bootloader just by telling it to unlock.
You would put the device into fastboot mode (by going to the bootloader, instructions were posted above i think), and then try some commands like this
fastboot flashing unlock
or
fastboot oem unlock
also check if in developer settings there is a toggle for Allow bootloader unlock or OEM unlock or w/e they call it.
if this works I highly suggest figuring out a way to grab the entire system to make a backup before you do anything. there's no twrp yet but it can't be too difficult to compile, but i dont have this $1000 waste of money to do any of this. i hope this post helps someone

Are these commands on a computer through ADB?
The only options I had on the phone were:
-Start
-Recovery Mode
-Restart Bootloader

-Boot to QMMI
-Boot to FFBM
Hi,
I looked a bit into the process of rooting on this device. It would be cool to get it rooted. I guess this process is in theory simple. But we should focus on the first problem:
Why is the option "OEM unlock" hidden in the developer Menu? Are there ways to make that option usable? If anyone has an idea how to make this option usable, we could get to the next step. Thanks to anyone who has an contribution.
Edit: some additional info

Unlock bootloader of the LG V533

Hello everyone,
I want to unlock boot loader on my LG G PAD IV 8 (V533).
I did the OEM unlock in setting of developer options, But I couldn't reboot to bootloader and fastboot mode.
I tried:
1) adb reboot bootloader -> it reboots normally
2) Volume down and power and release power and hold all keys down --> IMEI display
3) Hold volume Up and connect USB --> Download mode (no fastboot)
4) Volume down and power and release power and hold back power --> factory reset
How can I enter to fastboot mode on this device so I can unlock the device? I don't find the key combination.
Thanks
Did you fimd any imfo on this yet???

Hi,
Looks like the Canadian variant of the LG GPad IV 8.0 is unrootable or unable to unlock the bootloader. However, the US T-Mobile variant (V530) which is essentially the same specs, is rootable according to other XDA post https://forum.xda-developers.com/g-pad-x-80/how-to/guide-root-lg-g-pad-v530-newbies-t3901485
Should any new info come up regarding this variant, feel free to post it here. Thanks
I just flashed 8.1 with a Korean kdz. onto an LG-V533 using LGUP Dual Mode. Next I will see about recovery, but for now pleased with the results. I got tired of searchig for American firmware with identical hardware.

Did you simply use the LGUP Dev mode and flash the Korean kdz onto the V533 or did you modify anything somehow? Would like to try it but not familiar with flashing LG devices, only ZTE and HTC
That's correct. I am going from memory here, but i know i did not make any alterations of any kind prior. It will repartition the device and i'm not certain if you can revert.
I did it for a friend and it works well. You'll wind up with a few weird Korean apps. The ones you can't uninstall just use adb or app manager.
I am pretty sure the selection i used was "download" and it gave a warning about repartitioning. So obviously i did it. I think it froze during initial boot. I recall waiting far too long and just force rebooted and all was well. I am much more comfortable flashing a Motorola or Samsung myself. I've cross flashed a few Lg's now and they seem to work well.
Even though i spend a lot of time making sure it can work, you may get different results. Make sure it's charged good. I learned that one already. Let me know how it goes!
After your cross-flash, 3g/lte works? Your IMEI remains the same as original IMEI?
Thanks.

By this do you mean your IMEI remained the same (original IMEI)?
I would like to cross-flash in order to unlock the bootloader, then install TWRP. Thank you. Could you give more details about
(1) Your original model. I assume it was LG-V533 Canada Rogers or Telus.
(2) After cross-flashing, the model changed to ...? Have you tried "adb reboot bootloader" . Inside bootloader: "flashboot oem unlock"?

New here, hope I am in the right place...I have limited tech skills (born pre cell phones and computers) I did manage to install a custom ROM on an old HTC years ago, and thought I could do it again!
I have a Samsung A10e (SM-A102U) locked to sprint.
I can get the developer options but can't get the OEM unlock option. I also can't wait 7 days. Have tried a few things with the date and turning off updates etc, nothing worked. Here is what I am trying to do in order (please correct me if it is the wrong order) Ultimately I want my phone unlocked for use with any sim, and install a custom rom, to remove some bloatware. Could I wipe the phone totally take it to a piece of memory with no ROM and then re-load it, or use ADB to do it? Please excuse my ignorance - if I sound clueless I kinda am!
1. Unlock the bootloader
2. Install TWRP
3. Install custom ROM
It has taken me days of searching but to no avail, literally pulling my hair out. Happy to buy a beer for anyone that helps!
Wow,thanks...
Response has been overwhelming...

I have the exact same question.
it will not happen alot of us based carriers will lock down the phone via bootloader our best option is to find combination firmware and hopefully find root that way assuming that method still works.
Same situation here with Verizon. And sorry to tell you but I don't think anything will happen for you after seven days either, at least nothing did for me. I've spent a long time trying to get past this with no success, trying every trick I've found (the changing the date manually trick, factory resetting and trying on WiFi, etc.).
Also, using the app "Settings Database Editor," I've found the config/property where OEM bootloader unlock has been disabled:
"sys.oem_unlock_allowed" "0"
Screenshot here.
I'm hoping maybe we can edit that property via ADB or something. I'm not really holding out any hope here though. :-/
One other random discovery (not really helpful or relevant for our OEM bootloader unlock goal, but something I discovered while trying to obtain unlock): I believe I discovered a firmware error (at least on the Verizon build). When you hold volume up + power together for about 30 seconds, the phone shows the recovery menu for a split second but then instantly/immediately wipes all data and factory resets, without ever allowing the user to choose their own recovery menu selection and without giving any reset confirmation prompt before instantly wiping all user data. It's not supposed to work that way, according to the phone's user manual/Samsung technical support instruction. It's actually really pissed me off because I've triggered this instant reset twice now by accident just by having the phone in my back pocket and sitting down. I go to pick up my phone from my pocket and notice the screen is on and then discover everything was wiped. Very annoying! I called Samsung customer support twice to try to explain that I believe there to be a firmware error present (at least on Verizon models) but they didn't seem to care/their support script told them to have me take the device to some local authorized third-party screen repair place. One good outcome I've discovered from factory resetting the phone is that you can at least avoid enrolling the phone in part of the Knox security crap, the "kme" protection. I originally couldn't use remote apps like TeamViewer or AnyDesk without some stupid "Protected by Knox" notification popping up and then my remote app instantly exiting. Made me so angry. But now I'm able to use those apps without any issue. Though, the phone does try to have me agree to enroll in kme protection or whatever about once a day and I have to manually close the enrollment agreement form that pops up.

I've had the same issue with entire A series. All OEM's are disabled regardless of carrier. It seems to be part of Samsung's firmware. After nothing but dead ends and contacting samsung directly i was left scratching my head. Came here searching for some insights I may have overlooked.
-Enable developer options
-Enable wifi
-Join a network
-Change date to 10 days forward
-Reboot phone
-OEM unlock will be available
Thank me later

Nothing happens/doesn't work for Verizon. :-/
I mentioned having tried this technique already in my previous post above.

For what it's worth, here's a sister thread I started on this topic with a few responses/potential bootloader unlock ideas shared by other members but no real solid progress made at this point:

the bl is not unlockable
Bump
I know this is possible I've seen it done before. I think it had to do with a modified ota update.

Do you have proof of this being done?
Because as far as I'm aware, it's been impossible to unlock bootloader for years
I actually purchased this phone from Metro last week after searching for it on XDA and seeing that is was BL unlockable. I didn't realize any the time that this was only the international variants. Good luck to all devs whose skillset is better than my own.

Yeah... I I knew better than to just look at a10e and assume they were all the same. I went through the same struggle with a J7 not too long ago... Should have learned my lesson then.

no.. are u sure u have a a10e?
you cant root without exploits that dknt exist without unlocking the bootloader
No matter about root. but I converted many of Samsung A10e to international variant to remove any boost metropcs or any other networks bloatware application.
you can also do it without any issue. Simply flash A102U1 Firmware. I m not sure that it will work on Network Locked/Sim locked devices. I flash and convert it after using a remote unlocking service which already changed the CSC version of EFS to XAA from the BST csc...
XAA is for US Unlocked Without carrier locked phones and BST for Boost mobile carrier only which came with lots of boost bloatwares but maybe that A10e boost remote unlock service saved me.
check the screenshot attached.

Careful, don't post your IMEI on the internet as some bad people can do stuff with it

The bootloader can be UNLOCKED? V60 Future Development?

Not sure if anyone had seen this or tried it and seen if it did in deed work, if no one tried, i aint scared, ill try it myself...
https://myphoneupdate.com/unlock-bootloader-lg-v60-thinq-5g/
Today I was chatting with LG on Twitter DM an asked about an CARRIER UNLOCKED Version which would be available in the near future with NO DATE.
I also asked about Unlocking the Bootloader in this Beast and hopefully get some custom magic going because i thought LG had a Dev site at one time. I been using Android since July 2010, HTC EVO, Sprints 1st Android. I had a v40 or v40 which i upgraded in the store, and i hated everything about it : Felt Cheap as HELL, hate the LG Version of Android and if i will NEVER be able to change that stock firmware, i dont want it. I'll sit on my Pixel 4XL a little longer when the Moto Edge+ becomes available...
Hot damn. I popped up a thread about this the other day asking if anyone had given it a shot yet. So far no Canadian carriers have the phone, let alone buying it directly, so I'm in no position to try it out but I'll be watching this thread with keen interest.
my oem toggle was able to be switched when i just got, can only boot to fastbootd though...

Bootloader
How were you able to get into fastboot when I try to ADB fastboot it just returns me back into the phone OS
Just fyi, the phone isn't listed on LG Devs website as being supported by this method (as of this posting): https://developer.lge.com/resource/mobile/RetrieveBootloader.dev?categoryId=CTULRS0703
Also, I got a bit dubious, because in some sections of the article, he refers to the phone as the LG V40 ThinQ -- and yeah, it looks like a copy-paste of this article: https://myphoneupdate.com/unlock-bootloader-of-lg-v40-thinq/, The LG V40 ThinQ IS a supported device, BUT ONLY THE EU MODEL. In fact, if you live in the US, my hunch is you'll be SOL, and only the EU V60 Tq will be bootloader unlockable.
Edit: Both articles on this site look like just the official LG documentation with some words changed and some links to go get things like ADB: https://developer.lge.com/resource/mobile/RetrieveBootloader.dev?categoryId=CTULRS0702

That's the funny thing I'm able to toggle oem unlock on and off

I'm on T-Mobile as soon as I walked out of the store I turned on dev options and could toggle the switch, it stayed on with a factory reset too

Using an engineering ROM on my S9+, I can toggle OEM lock on and off and it doesn't seem to do anything. Rather, it does let you ADB reboot fastboot, but no actual interface exists once booted to send commands to the phone. Then it throws a weird error message on the phone screen (been too long, can't remember what), does a dump, then reboot back to system.
Maybe this is a similar principle, since you noted earlier that you are unable to get into the bootloader via the reboot command.

If OEM unlock is exposed in dev options by the current V60 OS build, but rebooting fastboot just sends you back to system, then LG's maybe done some extra work like Sammy to make sure people can't actually send commands to the bootloader.

adb reboot fastboot brings you to "fastbootd"

As long as you can toggle on oem unlock it doesn't matter. Being carrier unlocked allows the switch to be toggled. I'm on eip and as I stated it was able to be turned on out of the box after the sim was put in.
Bootloader
So who makes the decision to lock the bootloader on the phone carrier or LG apparently the source code kernel is out that's a good start
https://www.getdroidpro.com/lg-v60-thinq-5g-root-via-magisk/
Just something I found on the inter webs
---------- Post added at 01:43 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:39 PM ----------
I just got my v60 so there probably not going to unlock it
So even if OEM unlock is toggled on, do we still need to be carrier unlocked? Also, with OEM unlock enabled I am only able to boot into fastbootd and recovery. Trying to boot to the loader just goes to system
I guess I'll try to call T-Mobile and make up some kind of lie to unlock lol
Great, now can someone find out when us Canadians get this bugger in our paws?! Hahaha
I assume no one has had no luck to this very moment trying to access the bootloader? I have a buddy of mine from Bliss ROMs trying to help me but who knows what will come out of it ??
I really want to get this phone and the OEM unlock doesn't surprise me with lgs but what ya wanna bet that LG still removed almost all adb/fastboot commands even after bootloader unlock.
They've been doing this since the v30 and that's when I left LG. I miss LG.
If you try fastboot boot or fastboot flash etc, it will say command not found or something unless they changed it back which I hope so cause I hate OnePlus' cameras

You can only boot into fastbootd, booting to the bootloader will bring you back to system... I may return this for the 7t pro McLaren tbh even though the battery life on this is so amazing

I would never trade the battery life in this phone for the McLaren battery life. I'd have to cry myself to sleep every night.
