Instagram not reading system wide dark mode - Huawei Mate 20 Pro Questions & Answers

Dark mode is active on my oneplus one phone running android 9.0 aosp, which has system wide dark mode active.
On my Mate20 Pro running 9.1 (320 update), Instagram app isn't reading the system wide dark mode. No matter what I do, it's still white!
One thing different on the huawei is the Dark mode is under Battery settings whereas on aosp it is under Display settings ??
Anyone had any luck getting the dark mode running on the third party apps on this device?

I do have the same problem reallt need a solution on the matter

How?? Tried the steps suggested by huawei India but doesn't seem to work either.

I managed to get the system-wide dark mode running an almost all Google apps.
First of all my play store version was not 16.9.10 so I uninstalled play store updates, then clicked on play store version to push it to update itself and then it was 16.9.10
Second I enabled dark mode via ADB:
adb shell settings put secure ui_night_mode 2
Third: reboot.
After reboot I got dark play store, google photos, google pay, google drive, etc..

I've got instagram in dark mode, nothing changed on the phone... phone itself isn't set to use dark mode
no way to return it to normal

well, i have the mate 20 pro and i got the dark mode of the instagram, but the problem is i cannot turn off the dark mode.....btw I like the original.

But' there is black Instagram modded app online and it's probably better then official app because you can download pics and videos, zoom profile photos etc...if you can't find that mod I'll find it for you.

Stock Android Feel Without Root / Other Tweaks

Hey Guys, so basically this guide is going to cover the fact of getting more performance/battery life out of your S8+ by running a more stock Android Like Experience.... Whether your like myself and prefer stock android over ****ty touch wiz or just want your device less debated and to perform smoother than this is for you!
For Starters I would like to point out that you will need to buy 1 app which has a 5 day refund policy if you do not like it.... So the reason this works without root is because u can disable apps now if you have the Exynos models with the root you will not need this app....
I have disabled Basically all of the Stock Samsung Apps and replaced with the following Google Apps.... Now the keyboard is SwiftKey however you are welcome to use the Google keyboard if you prefer it better.... You should install these before you download the. Xml below.... Now you cant get Google dialer or Google contacts off the play store so u must download it off XDA... The Reason we use Google version of these apps vs Samsung's pre-installed ones is because Samsung's apps tend to use more ram and Googles app set it basically what stock Android uses.... Nova Launcher is also a very stock Android Like launcher that myself and others prefer to use on all of our Android devices...

Once you have each of those we can move onto the next step... You will now need to download the app I mentioned before that you have to pay for. You can download that here
HTML:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ospolice.packagedisablerpro&hl=en
and the PD Engine from here
HTML:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mlsplit.samsungservice&hl=en
For this app it will tell you do download something called PD Engine so download that.... Once you load up the app u will need to give it administrator privileges that way it can disable all the apps.... After this is completed and u are on the main screen u can download the XML listed below this post to your phone, and in the Package Disabler Pro App click the 3 dots in the top right corner then click on import from XML and select the file you just downloaded from here. Go back to your home screen and you should see all the Samsung Apps missing as well as Device Maintenance missing from settings.... Note that Face Recognition and Iris is disabled so if you want those turned on read below. You may bow restart your device and you should feel the phone running a lot smoother especially when running multiple apps.... This gives you more of a Google Stock Android Experience for those like myself that prefer it over all the ****ty Samsung bloat apps.... All the Google Apps you download earlier are your replacement for the Samsung apps that are now disabled... Bixby has also been disabled so that button with no longer work, if you want that on look up Bixby in package Disabler pro and uncheck all the boxes...
Turn On Face/Iris Scanner
In the Package Disabler app search for these and uncheck the boxes
Iris
com.sec.factory.iris.usercamera
com.samsung.android.server.iris
Face
com.samsung.faceservice
com.samsung.android.bio.face.service
If you want to use Google Camera or Open Camera
Make sure to Disable com.sec.android.app.camera and the addons for the stock camera app being
com.sec.factory.camera
com.samsung.android.app.camera.sticker.facear.preload
com.samsung.android.app.camera.sticker.stamp.preload

Just bought one, what to do next?

Hey guys, I live in China and I just got one from their flagship store in Shanghai, must say it's indeed a very impressive phone but only on hardware perspective, as for the software, nah.
More details will be available once I have time to explore, main phone still will be Galaxy S8 and iPhone X at this moment

I would say it's okay for the camera but not the best, its cheaper sibling Vivo Nex has better image quality compared with.
The speaker is mono unfortunately, I think they don't have enough space to fit a large audo component into that tiny upper frame, a bit sad.
Battery is above the average, will do a intensive battery consumption test once I have time.:fingers-crossed:

So far the only way is to get adb working
Type
Adb shell (hit enter)
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.oppo.launcher (hit enter)
However when you swipe up from center it gives you a blank screen. You then have to hit lock screen or drag up from center and hold to show recents then you can drag up from center and it will go to your launcher.
Before using the command above make sure you already have the 3rd party launcher installed
Got one from China, using in Canada right now
Google Assistance isnt working for me (cannot trigger via voice or home button)
Android Auto is not working
Have trouble to disable voicemail notification, Pixel 2 can disable it via some trick but not working with Find X
LTE band works great and download/upload speed is faster than my Pixel 2 (Telus+Freedom Mobile)
URL Links that require to open Google Play wont work, it will open the built-in broswer even I switch the default browser to Chrome, it will not open google play directly
Same idea for google calendar and other google deep intergrated services/app
Need International ROM!!!

My OFX should be arriving any minute now....
Is there an option in the settings to go without a lockscreen?
I don't use a lock screen of any sort, I'll be giving this app a shot (with & without a lock screen) to see what, if any, effect it has, with both swipe gestures & nav buttons.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.jraf.android.nolock
I realize most people use a lockscreen but, thought some may be willing to go without one if, in exchange, you may be able to skip a couple of swipes/etc... in the process.

Yep, never use a lockscreen and go straight to the GUI from the fingerprint scanner or face unlock, positively hate the extra step. It's a key issue for me so I'm counting on you folks getting it resolved.

Found the setting to turn off lockscreen, but,at least for now,it comes at a price:
The good news: Look no further than developer options,it's the 2nd option.
The not so good: You're stuck with the yellow warning background in the status bar
The background color could be disabled on the VIVO NEX by killing the VIVO Services app,at least until the next reboot, not the best option, but,I could live with it.
Perhaps the OPPO equivalent, whatever that .apk is named, will serve us the same result,I'll be spending the better part of the evening trying out different apps.........

How do you like this device compared to the nex?

Great answer to wide screen

https://blog.tmyt.jp/entry/2019/12/13/225204
You can switch to widescreen all apps
It is available from the Play Store.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.refy.android.g8x.widemode
The weak point of G8X is that only limited apps can be set to Wide mode.
However, this tool will allow any app to be in Wide mode.
Wide mode is available for anything such as Kindle, Google Maps, Youtube, MX Player.
By calling from QuickSettings Tile, the activity displayed on the main screen is set to Wide mode.

Hello,
thanks! I am just installing it!
Game changer! Completely transformative for productivity uses--allows landscape tablet use for gdocs, word, excel, OneNote, calendar. Gets the phone significantly closer to achieving its potential. Fingers crossed LG will enable this in more elegant fashion (e.g., allow it to stay in widescreen mode between usages and apps so that you don't have to keep turning this on).
Thank you so much! It works exactly as I hoped this device did straight out of the box.
I cant seem to get it to work for some reason.
What i done is,after adding the icon to the drop down quick settings, i open the app on the main screen the switch on wide mode from the drop down menu. My dual screen is on but becomes blank.

Hopefully LG will adjust the UI scaling and look to work best with hinge, rounded corners, hinge segmentation, angled view (like book handling or laptop standing), different screen size (v50). Pitch black dark mode will work great for more seamless coherent look

What about opening third party app launcher
And what about dedicated apps with different view dual screen? Can you force it to be bigger? Like gallery, camera,
I also would like to see how the scaling looks like on lg stock apps (notes, calender) & third party apps (Gmail, Microsoft, games, Google news, Instagram, YouTube)
The problem with foldables is they look like a giant phone. Not like tablet
Please guys share more screenshots, it's a great main selling point

What about dpi tweaking
This app is indeed awesome and it makes you wonder why LG did not come up with this.
But the giant black divider is really annoying. It makes me want a ZTE Axon M with updated specs (larger screens, latest Snapdragon, dual SIM, OLED, faster storage, etc.). Basically a Microsoft Duo without the ridiculous wait and price. I can imagine a Chinese manufacturer could bring this to market a lot quicker and for a lot less money than Microsoft.

Thanks for the reply! I don't understand, I also have a German device. The program is installed but the Wide Mode icon does not appear (if I pull down the status bar) Do I need to do anything else? (The two displays are in sync of course)
Correction! Works I found the icon in the edit menu. Sensational, I don't understand why LG doesn't include it in the sidebar in the floating dual display setup.

I noticed the G8X widescreen app posted an update that includes a tasker plugin. I've created a new profile that with the following triggers:
* app switch, and
* running selected apps (e.g., gmail, word)
that launch a task that includes:
* force reverse landscape orientation, and
* launch G8X widescreen plugin.
So far so good. I'm just looking for a way to maintain the widescreen automatically for the activities that automatically switch out of widescreen, e.g., hitting the reply button in gmail.
The tasker plugin functionality is another huge leap forward.

Completely Dark-moding the V20 (running Oreo)

So, starting to switch my V20 (996US on Alpha-Omega Oreo ROM) to dark mode.
Many apps now have a switch.
I've installed the Dark Mode app to get some more apps into dark mode.
Installed the LG G8 Black Theme in the system settings to get the system settings, default dialer, etc. into dark mode.
What other dark mode tweaks am I missing?
For example, how do we get dark mode gmail in Oreo?
How do we get the notifications darker?
You should use a theme that has built in dark notifications. Most mark bencze themes that are dark mode have that option.

Does anyone know of any dark themes with dark notifications that are free?

I haven't heard of any free ones that do. Out of the paid ones, here are some specific ones mentioned by someone on the Subreddit:
https://www.reddit.com/r/lgv20/comments/arfj5n/anybody_know_any_other_lg_dark_oreo_themes_that/
Also, one member recently discussed trying to get dark notifications with Substratum themes in the past but having trouble:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/how-to/lg-v20-reveiw-modding-guide-mid-2019-t3930639/page9
It's a shame there's no easy free way to darken the notifications.
Any other tips for darkening the phones? (Like Gmail and a few other apps)?
I use muify, a worthwhile paid app, that you can color however you like, it's a sister app of Bottom Quick Settings that does the same.
Youz might be interested to know dark mode uses more power on an LCD because dark mode had to block out the white backlight behind the lcd. The opposite is the case on an OLED because it doesn't have a backlight : )

Thanks for these suggestions and for the tips about the backlight.
The only free theme with dark notifications that I could find for the LG V20 - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lge.wsdeveloper.black.mios
Mios Black
It's quite nice overall!

Is there any other place I could get this other than play store? I've tried to find it, but don't trust the sources.

Got the same unavailable message. Strange to see a free LG theme being blocked in the U.S. I don't think there are any other sources than the external sites you see when searching. FWIW, I've used several apps from the APKPure site in the past without problems. I keep one of my spare V20s in a "minimized" configuration with no Google accounts attached and all apps either sideloaded or installed through Titanium Backup.
And in case anyone missed it, someone in that review/modding guide thread mentioned the free Substratum theme Sai's Oreo Theme that also has dark notifications (and it's not geoblocked in the U.S.).

Dark Mode also for Third Party Apps?

Is there a way (or an app) that can enable Dark Mode also for 3rd Party Apps.
I have just upgraded from a Xiaomi Mi Max 3 (Stock MUI12.0.1 Android 10) and its Dark Mode has this feature so you can select the apps that you also want to exhibit Dark Mode. This works excellently. I've attached pictures showing it working for PayPal though you can select which apps you want it to work with or not.
Is there any way to replicate this on EMUI 10?
There isn't an app, but for me, all apps that support dark mode automatically switch to it. There was a couple of exceptions but those I switched to dark mode from their respectable settings.

Thanks for the response. From reading in other Huawei forums I saw that this feature to force apps that do not necessarily have an in-built dark mode was actually in the beta version of EMUI10 but then they removed it in the final version.
This is the feature I was referring to.
EMUI 10 dark mode apply everywhere
Hello Guys, i found this video where someone is showing the new dark mode on EMUI 10. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1enMV-ebGo&feature=youtu.be There is a "Apply everywhere" option in the settings right under the dark mode, but it's not there...

I've started to use DarQ which does a few apps but many don't get adjusted to a dark mode, whereas with the option/feature in MUI12 it does pretty much all very well.
[APP][ROOT/SHIZUKU][10+][11/Feb] DarQ: Per-app selectable force dark option for Android 10+
DarQ provides a per-app selectable force dark option for Android 10 and above. It uses a root or Shizuku (ADB) service to apply the theme seamlessly and quickly, without needing an accessibility service. DarQ also provides an option to apply...

I have to wait and see if they put this back in the soon to be available (here) of EMUI11
