TAB S6 LTE UK Version...can it be used with an Egyptian Sim ? - Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Questions & Answers

Hello everyone!
Okay so first off, sorry for having to post my first post as a question.
So I'm from Egypt (we still don't even have the s5e in stores..), I usually get all my tech from Amazon.com, seeing that the LTE variantof the Tab S6 is not available there yet, I went to check out amazon UK(also has global shipping)
I found an LTE variant of the tablet (Can't link it since I'm a new user) but its the "Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 LTE 256 GB 10.5-Inch Tablet - Mountain Grey (UK Version)". Link: amazon.co.uk/dp/B07W4KVH18?tag=dradisplay0bb-21&ascsubtag=8ae47d4591cfa385f0e63929fb543ed4_CT&ref=dra_a_ms_sb_ho_xx_P600_100
I found alot of questions getting answered by (it'll work only after you make a 10 min phone call in the UK using a UK sim card), is this what they call (Unlocking process) ? and is there anyway I can bypass that ? will I even need to do this ? since someone who lives in the EU asked that question and they said it'll work just fine without going through that process. also I use (Vodafone EG) as my carrier
I do apologies for a somewhat silly question, but I don't quite get how the locked/unlocked/GSM/CMDA thingy works
Thank you in advance !

Try putting in the link, but without the http(s)://www bit at the beginning
Oh and it's not at all a silly question.
Was it this one?

Done, and yeah that's the one.

OK, there are two issues.
Service Provider Lock
Region Lock
As this is from Amazon then it should be Service Provider unlocked.
However to stop what are known as 'Grey Imports' where a unit is destined for say the Hong Kong market, to stop it being then re-exported to say the UK they require a HK sim to be installed first (which is why if you but a new unit from Hong Kong it's usually been opened and a sim put in it so that it performs it's initial region check) this then allows you to subsequently install any sim, as long as the first sim is from a matching region.
In this instance I would guess that the unit Amazon are selling are probably region locked to Europe (I'm not certain though obviously), which means the first sim you installed would have to be a euro sim and you would have to do it in Europe for the sim to validate live and disable the region lock.
A potential way around this would be buy a used unit off ebay where the Region Lock has already been deactivated.
Hope the above makes sense, if you need further help and don't want to do it in the thread you could PM me.

Update: I got the tablet from Amazon UK and it worked just fine in Egypt, (I just popped in my Egyptian sim card and turned on the device

I am glad it works well for you.
I am wondering if it will work in the US if I get it from Amazon.uk. T-Mobile only carries the 128gb one; I need the 256gb one.

Unable to see T-mobile network with Pay As You Go SIM

Greetings all,
I'm having the following issue with a Qtek 1020 I just purchased from Microdirect, sold as SIM unlocked. The phone just doesn't find the network when I turn it on with my Pay As You Go T-mobile SIM. No error message pops up, nothing asks me for an unlock code etc, I just get the message 'No Service' under Connectivity when I select the aerial icon at the top of the screen. When I go to Phone Settings I can see listed under 'other networks' O2 and Vodafone, but no T-mobile. I've tried changing GSM bands in the bootloader and listing networks but to no avail (I switched through 900, 1900 and 900/1800). I have also tried the unlocking tools around this site with no success. I know the SIM works as it asks for my PIN when I switch on and I can also browse through contacts stored on it. I'm wondering if anyone here has any ideas as I'm all out.
Information about my Qtek:
Qtek 1020
ROM version: 4.02.04 ENG
ROM date: 8/24/05
Radio version: A.33.02
Protocol version: 1.3.3
Model No: PW10B1
Please don't let me pull any more hair out :x
Thanks and warm regards,
Neil.
Same here
Hi,
Just wanted to let you know you're not alone! I too bought the 1020 from Microdirect and have the same problem. I've tried my t-mobile pay as you go SIM in an i-mate pda2k and it worked straight away. That made me think the 1020 was restricted to o2/vodafone. If its an unlocked PDA why do Microdirect say it won't work with Orange? Where I work we successfully unlocked an XDA and used an Orange SIM, but that was a couple of years ago.
I've e-mailed qtek but have had no response yet.
I've tried the xda developers ROM and while it is cool I still get the problem with the t-mobile SIM, although it says No Signal as opposed to No Service. I was going to try the GSM modes on the bootloader but notice you've tried that already so I won't bother.
If I get any further I'll post back asap.
Mark
Thanks for your reply Mark and now I can rest knowing I'm not the only one having trouble! I too tried the developer's ROM with no luck, although it was nice to play with the extra applications. Funny how Microdirect stated that it was compatable with T-Mobile, when it seems that it is not. I tried my sister's T-Mobile contract SIM and it doesn't work either, but my mum's Vodafone SIM works fine as well as my dad's Pay As You Go Vodafone SIM. It seems like this device is locked out of T-Mobile.
Regards,
Neil.
News from Microdirect
Microdirect have backtracked on the unlocked claim.
See link below for their comments.
http://www.microdirect.co.uk/ProductInfo.aspx?ProductID=11864&GroupID=1162
Oh well!
Yep I saw that. I decided to keep the PDA because it was such a good deal and I'm trying to go for a cheap contract with Vodafone. Check out http://www.mobilephonesdirect.co.uk/phonenetwork-84-1-Nokia_1100_on_Vodafone.html - £8 per month for the first 6 months then £16 afterwards. You get 1000 off-peak minutes per month to landlines and other Vodafone users as well as 250 TXTs plus £110 cash back after 6 months!! Sounds like a bargain to me, let's hope I pass the credit check!
Neil.
I was about to ask the very same question myself. I'm somewhat annoyed that Microdirect never even bothered to apologise or correct the mistake directly when I presented this problem to them last week - their response was to simply "return the item". For a Pocket PC PDA though, it's nice and cheap so like others, I'll keep mine and buy the cheapest possible Vodafone PAYG system that I can.
Well my Vodafone contract was approved and I immediately put the SIM into my Qtek 1020 whilst leaving the bundled Nokia phone unopened. All is well, I set up GPRS etc and my handy new PDA just got handier. Now I can sell this Nokia 1101 phone as it's SIM unlocked... might get 20 quid for it or something!
Regards,
Neil.
Okay well here's another damn issue with this thing... After a couple of weeks happy usage, the SD card slot decides to spit out anything I put into it - it just won't hold a card no matter what. I didn't force the mechanism at all or insert a card too forcefully - it just popped out one day and wouldn't go back in. I've written to Microdirect requesting an RMA, they replied thinking I was requesting an RMA for an SD card so I had to correct them and let them know it's actually the card slot in the 1020 that seems to have developed a fault of some kind. Just wondering if anyone else has ever had an issue with the card slot on their wallaby, so maybe we can say they are notoriously weak or something, or perhaps I was just unlucky.
Regards,
Neil.
Update: My replacement 1020 arrived today and all is well, well done to MicroDirect.
Rgds,
Neil.

[Q] Updates in the US

Imported this bad boy to the US, but with Nokia releasing new updates, will they ever reach the US? I have a feeling that it may never be rolled out here... If so are there any other alternatives to update?
(It is unlocked/unbranded and ordered from Handtec)

Did you get to avoid paying VAT on your purchase?
I'm pretty sure the update isn't rolled out by region, more like IMEI groups.
Isn't Market Place done by region your account is registered to? Maybe updates are the same?
You could also try conencting via a VPN in a region where it's released, see if it picks up an update?
I've had two updates so far, so would of thought most people would have had atleast one?
I did get to avoid VAT I'll check again tonight as another update was released. I just haven't received any messages telling me to update. Thanks for the info!

Then that's a really good price for it!
I really want this phone, but need to be sure that Internet Sharing will be enabled first, or it's a waste of my money.
Hey, keep us posted would you? I'm getting mine this Monday from Amazon and curious to see if Zune will detect the update in Burbank, Ca.
Need WiFi tethering as I use for my Kindle Touch WiFi, but it's not a deal breaker.
Also, one or two people have posted some anomalies with the update concerning the battery indicator. ..
Hey halfnelson.. does the phone accept your AT&T GSM SIM card as it is or did you have to cut it to a lesser size to fit?
Someone on O2 in Europe wrote they had to cut theirs?
The Lumia uses a microSIM, so yes it would need cutting (unless you had one already, of course).
I trimmed down my GIffgaff one no problem.

It did accept my regular sim after I cut it. Be sure to do it correctly, or else the contacts won't match up
I researched it and decided to wuss and shell out the $20 for a T-Mobile micro sim.. Will phone activate when I get the phone Monday. Failed too many shop and craft classes to trust myself cutting.
Hey any news on your update?
I've got another ? for the OP.
The website you bought from, with the best price I've seen, does not specific the WCMDA/HSPA bandwidths to differentiate if it's the quad-band or one of the two different tri-bands. Which carrier are you using here in the US and is the 3G fully functioning for you?

I'm on Att and get fully functioning HSPA+. it uses the 850/900/1900/2100 bands for 3g/HSPA+.

This is good to know, cuz the product page doesn't list them. I spent waaaay too long last night looking for a UK site that sells quad-band HSPA. Have it narrowed down to two, thanks to your confirmation here.
I'm kinda keen on the cyan.
Although many sites say they don't have the right bands, all the lumia devices have the bands I said above.

One Update Came Through - T-Mobile USA
So I have..
OS: 7.10.7740.16
Firmware: 1600.2475.7720.11414
But I am only getting Edge Data.
Have Hard Reset and I'm hoping that this is just a new SIM getting onto the system (customer service warned me to allow 2 hrs for full services)
Otherwise could be a deal breaker.
Hoping not; a chap at the TMobile store in Burbank where I live said another customer came in with the same phone bragging away on it so hope this is just a temp thing..
Beautiful device though!!
The Lumia doesn't do AWS, EDGE is the best you'll get from T-Mobile US.
Yep; I found that out... Hopefully AT&T will buy out T-Mobile..

Hopefully AT&T won't be able to buy T-Mobile. Talk about market concentration and increased rates. The acquisition doesn't mean that tmo phones will magically start working. The changes you'd hope to see would not be immediate.

Prepaid data SIM card while in Germany and Poland?

Hi folks. Lad from the USA here is going to Poland and Germany for 2 weeks. Any advice on where/how to get a prepaid SIM data card? Can it work for both Poland and Germany? And I can just pop it into my SGS II and it'll work straight away without configuring anything?
Thanks.
Ok. I'm in Poland and purchased a Play prepaid sim. Internet works. I purchased the starter kit and refilled at 2gb for 30 zl.
However, the image below seems to say I only have 1.2gb. I don't understand it nor the rest of the text below.
I tried to explain to the guy at the play store and I saw him google "1220mb", which leads me to believe he's a lot more clueless than me.

SIM card in Germany and Poland
rwc..did you ever get a satisfactory solution to your question about a SIM card for Germany and Poland. I'm off to Berlin and then Poland (for the Euro Championships ) in 10 days time and need to sort out my comms. Any advice would be great for a an unlocked Samsung GSM phone I'm getting from Ebay.
Oh lucky you!!!!!! I wish I could go.
in Poland, you can get a prepaid sim data card from Play. It's called Play 4.0 because it works with 4 of their major providers (T-Mobile, Orange, something else, and another something else). The speed is not so bad.
Just pop the SIM in and reboot the phone.
http://www.prepaidgsm.net/en/polonia/play.html
http://wiki.apnchanger.org/Germany
http://wiki.apnchanger.org/Poland
I didn't understand all the details because I didn't speak Polish.
You can purchase a starter kit which gives you like 1GB and then refill. However, the data you are actually allotted doesn't amount to what is advertised.
The sim card didn't work in Germany so can't help you there
Great Sorry for delay in responding..I had a bike accident involving me and a groundhog scurrying across my path and I came out the worst !!
Thanks for the info on Poland..will sort out something else in Berlin, as I can understand a smattering of German.
C'mon the Irish !!
If you purchase an International Roaming SIM when you travel, instead of taking your Germany, Poland mobile with you whilst you travel through Europe, then you should save at least 70% or more. I am sure that you would rather keep your money in your pocket. I'm using holidayphone during my International tour. They providing cheap and best services.

Bought unlocked from CPW... but full of BLOAT as soon as sim added...

Hi bought this in Nov from CPW. Was UK single sim, 128GB unlocked. Every other phone I've bought from CPW has been unlocked and without branding.... as was this one until I installed my three sim, which immediately installed the three splash screen and other three bloat... none of which can be uninstalled.
Bit cheesed off at this, because I detest all the garbage that they load onto phones... and this one has plenty.... deezer etc...
I'm wondering if others from a different network have noticed similar findings... ??? O2 / Vodafone / EE [email protected] installed after sim insertion.... ??? (this might explain why the firmware size is so colossal if all networks are contained in the one version)

Also on Carphone Warehouse with O2. No branding or bloat. Also no update as of yet.

Before I inserted my three sim I had a play with the phone and non of the bloat was installed even tho I purchased it from three. So the phones ship with a standard Huawei firmware and as soon as you insert a SIM it installs all the bloat.
Really this should be optional.
If you remove the SIM and do a factory reset will the three branding still remain?
That's strange... is this a three network only feature... original FW was .115 and pre-installed [email protected] only appeared when sim installed (which was before .124 appeared a couple of weeks ago)... so there are NO bloatware apps at all installed on the O2 network ??? (amazon etc ??)
Was wondering myself if the three branding would get nuked with a factory reset... but can't be bothered with the pain of rebuilding my phone... anybody up for the challenge ??
i did a factory reset to clear the three bloat and splash screen. The first thing i saw as it booted fresh.... Three splash screen
Exactly the same thing happened to me (also Three sim) and it bloated the phone with bloat and branded it to them, mentioned it a few times on this forum, I just hope its not locked it to them after I bought the ruddy thing sim free

I suspect it might be because only Three have it on contract while Carphonewarehouse (where I got mine) sell it unlocked, sim free...................forcing Three bloat on it though is out of order

why buy from 700gpb there when some places can get 580 or 600? just curious, I don't really know the scene.
because bootlocker doesn't matter does it to root and custom room these? not like the LG v30 for example?

That would explain why it only seems to be happening to three customers !!!! (didn't know it was a three exclusive)... bit of a poor show though... bit annoyed at the three garbage that can't be uninstalled... but, hey-ho, in the grand scheme it's not the end of the world.... or is it worth an email to CPW to express my annoyance......

The UK Mate 10 Pro situation is a new one. The phones automatically rebrand themselves to the SIM you put in. Even without bloatware, there is an EE branding, a Three branding, a Vodafone branding, and perhaps others that I didn't mention.
You might be able to get around it by first putting in a non-UK sim. Otherwise, you'd need to use a rebranding procedure to set it back, as far as I can tell. I don't have a UK device or SIM to do testing on, but that is what I've gathered so far.
Hello. I saw this issue as well with Orange Romania. As soon as you insert the sim and get signal, those apps install themselves, even if the phone is dual sim, unlocked, etc. As you guys mentioned before about the branding, most of the carriers have to modify the phone`s software in order to offer VoLTE and other services like these. Anyway, I just got like 5 apps from Orange(considering that Huawei`s apps are like 10-15 )) ), and I`m using 2 of them so far, so not a big deal for me.

I'd contact cpw , if you bought it SIM free I'd be expecting a device with no carrier branding, usually devices that carry the three branding are the most deprecated value wise when it comes to resale in past experience

That would depend on whether the phone has now been locked to them after I bought it unlocked, that's when it hits the fan
That's a very good point... Is it unlocked, or has it now locked itself to three....?? Anybody out there got a couple of sims to swap about to see if it is truly unlocked still??
I bought mine unlocked from mobilephonesdirect which is an unlocked device. Inserting my EE sim card didn't add any bloat.

Help, no SIM phone works outside of Europe

Hello guys,
I live in the Netherlands now and my folks came to visit.
While they were here, they bought an S9+ (SM-965F) for themselves on Belsimpel (on the store) and took it to Brazil.
We asked the guy if the phone was completely unlocked and he said yes, but...
When we were unboxing the phone, it said: "European SIM Only."
We then tried inserting two SIM Cards at the same time, one from Italy (TIM Italia) and another one from Brazil (VIVO Brazil).
In Brazil, we never get asked for PIN/PUK, so when it booted up, we entered the default Italian PIN (0000).
It said it was wrong, so I tried again a couple of times and it did not work at all.
I thought it was weird, but I could call him on the Italian number and that was all I cared for the moment.
Fast forward a few days, they went back to Brazil and..... VIVO does not work.
My father went to a VIVO store and they could not solve it.
He went to a Samsung store, nothing...
He even went to ANATEL (Brazilian Agency of Telecommunications) to see if the IMEI was blocked somehow, it wasn't.
Please help us to get it working with VIVO!
well... solved!
I got him an european SIM card and made a call over 10 minutes to him, that region-unlocked the phone, according to Samsung.
So Sammie are still doing the 5 minutes of calls with a particular SIM before itll work overseas... Well that sucks..
Yea I've heard this regards the Indian version, you've got to use an Indian sim before any other works
It's designed to keep companies from importing large numbers of gray market phones to resell, while still making it possible for individuals to buy a phone in one market and use in another.

Quick question... Did you buy a Dutch sim card (prepaid), send it to him in Brazil and then made a 10 minute phone call to this Dutch sim card in Brazil? And that solved the problem? I bought the same phone also from Belsimpel and have the same problem now in Colombia, even though I made two 5 min calls using a KPN sim card before leaving the Netherlands. But so basically I can borrow a European sim card from someone here , put it in my phone and have someone call me from Europe? Thanks for confirming. Best.

Hi!
I landed him my old italian sim card.
We spoke for about 30 minutes in that call, so I am not sure for how long you should be on the call, but it worked!
Good luck!
Thanks for the reply. As it turned out my phone was not region locked as I had made 12 minutes worth of calls while in the Netherlands, using a local sim card. There might have been an easier solution for you though: I was told by Samsung that they have region unlock codes for such cases. You would simply have to request such code from Samsung in the country where you bought the phone.
My problem was different and had to do with the message "SIM network PIN blocked. Enter SIM network PUK". Unfortunately, neither Samsung nor my Colombian provider could help me. I kept being referred from one to the other. My Colombian sim card would work on other phones so that was not the issue. My phone would not accept any Colombian sim card and it seems it had to do with the registration of phone itself in Colombia. In the end the only solution to unblock my phone was to use an online unblocking service. This worked perfectly. My phone was unblocked and I was then able to register my phone in Colombia without any problems. Shame this has to be so complicated but I am glad to be able to use my phone now.
My phone was bought in the UAE and Samsung Pay app etc doesnt work now that I am based in the UK. Samsung next to useless. Can i resolve this by getting a UAE sim (god knows how i'll do that) and then get someone from within the UAE to call me for say 20 minutes?
Does anyone know that if we do a factory reset then do we need to do this 5 minutes call again?

Wich unlocking services you used? I have the same problem, I live in Argentina
...
I wrote to about 10 of them, some did not reply, some did not come over as trustworthy and some said they could not unlock dual sim phones. In the end I used UnlockBoot. You can chat with them via their site or write to them via. I cannot post links but you will find them after a quick Google search. It cost a bit more than some others (USD 49) but they did it via TeamViewer and it was well worth it. Just a tip: once you get the code I had a long delay when entering each digit: enter a digit, wait, listen for the click, then enter the next. Best of luck!

You are not being a pain in the ass, mate.
You do not need roaming for this as roaming is just for data.
You just need to have enough credits to receive a 30-minute phone call.
I imagine you can get away with a lot less than 30, but we did 30 to make sure we would not have to start over.
Good luck!

There is no need for payments.
All you have to do is receive a call in that number for a number of minutes.
My guess is that 20 minutes would work, but I have done it with 30.
I would talk for 30 minutes with someone on the phone just to make sure it works.
Now... for the call to work, you need to have credits in the UK SIM Card because, even if you are RECEIVING a phone call, you will spend credits because you are receiving a call outside of the country of origin of the SIM card.
If you use your Argentinian SIM card in Europe, you will pay per minute to receive calls too... its just how it works.
So make sure you got around 25-30 pounds (i know, kinda expensive but it is worth it) on the SIM's account and then someone have to call that number.
I would use VoIP to make the call, since it the number is in the UK.
After that, you can shut down the phone and put the Argentinian SIM in.
My father could not believe we cracked this problem after the call.. it is an amazing feeling to finally being able to use your phone like a normal phone.
Good luck, man!
Let me know how it goes!
I'm not sure if it would help somebody. I was also facing this problem with region lock.
I bought a Samsung M30s 128GB (SM-M307F/DS) in India and used just the Wifi while in India. Then I went to Dubai and put in a local SIM card from du.ae and it clearly said region locked. I was not able to call.
After I went back home to Germany, I was leaving the phone switched on without a SIM card inside for a few days and then inserted my local T-Mobile contract SIM and it just works. Was doing several calls yesterday and today without issues. I found it weird because I never removed the region lock.
Maybe it can help someone try something.
