(Help) Asus Zenfone 4 ZE554KL Oreo 8.0.0 - How to root? - Asus Zenfone 4 (2017) Questions & Answers

Hi everyone,
Can anyone point me how to root this model?
I have a problem where all my files was lost when backing up all my files to PC. It suddenly stops transferring (not responding) then phone reboots. After that, my gallery (photos and videos) are gone. Even my downloaded files are gone.
I tried recovery programs and it always requires me to root the device.
All I want is to recovery my save files, pictures, and videos in my internal storage. Thanks to whoever can help me.

[Help Needed] Data (Photos, Videos, Documents) Recovery after soft bricking?

Hello everyone,
I need your help. Sorry for the long post.
I have a OnePlus One. It was running on CM 13.0 (Android 6.0.1). I had TWRP and MultiROM installed.
I have had an issue where whenever I flash a zip file in TWRP, the phone will show an error after installing the zip: "Unable to mount storage". This appeared in red color on the screen right after showing the progress of the zip installation. The phone worked fine and all the flashed zips worked great as well. However, the error that appeared every single time when I flash a zip file bothered me. So I tried to fix it. (I know, if it's not broken don't fix it, but sadly I tired).
I followed this video to get rid of the error => (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X7yDPszoQ5s). However, instead of getting rid of the error, I ended up with a huge problem. My phone couldn't recognize the data in the internal storage. It showed that the internal storage was empty. When I tired to reboot in TWRP, It said: "No OS installed are you sure you wish to reboot". I realized that the video I followed was for a different problem and that I ended up with the same issue the video was trying to fix! I tried every single option the video suggested to fix the problem and nothing helped.
I connected my phone to my laptop and downloaded the latest CyanogenMod zip for my phone and I flashed it. when I rebooted my phone I got a screen that asked for my password. I typed a random password (I discovered later that the phone will accept any password and say it's correct). I got the following error: "Decryption Unsuccessful... The password you entered is correct, but unfortunately your data is corrupt... To resume using your phone, you need to perform a factory reset. When you set up your phone after the reset, you'll have an opportunity to restore any data that was backed up to your google account...Then the only thing I can select is "reset phone." ". I pressed the reset button on the screen, the phone rebooted and showed the same error. Then I tired flashing PAC ROM and I got the same error again. Then I flashed OmniROM and the phone worked! It didn't show the error.
I have a Titanium backup for all my apps and I also have a nandroid backup for my previous ROM (in my memory stick using an OTG cable). However, I don't have any backups for my internal storage (photos, videos, documents... etc). I am guessing that these files are still in my internal storage. I didn't copy any new files to my phone because I think if I do, then the phone will keep replacing my old files (that I can't see) with the new ones.
My question is: Is there a way to get back these old photos and videos from the internal storage? Note that I didn't delete these files, but the phone can't read them. Also, I checked the nandroid backup that I have and the file system type of the previous ROM was EXT4. My current file system type is the same, EXT4.
Thank you for the help!

Urgent: Recover deleted photos/videos from internal memory (Galaxy S6)

Dear guys,
I accidentially deleted around 70 GB of videos and photos on my Galaxy S6 128 GB (SM-G920F, Android 6.0.1, G920FXXU3DPDP). I was so stupid to try to move the camera folder instead of copying it to the computer and since the process was aborted it was gone from my phone and not on my computer. I'm missing a lot of family pictures and videos that were very very valuable for me.
My phone is rooted (odin) and the root works properly. I tried several recovery programs, some are working in general and are requesting supersuser rights (like phone paw android recovery) - but can't find any of the deleted images and videos. Others (like Wondershare Dr..Fon Android recovery) do not work properly (it gets superuser rights but in the last step before scanning the phone it tries to get (other?) super user rights that are not properly requested).
I should be gratefull for any kind of help. Please let me know if you need any additional information. It would be the biggest present to get back any of the many photos and videos I lost.
Best,
Sonstiger
Or does anybody have an idea where I could find help? The photos and videos are precious memories of my daughter and two holidays.
Thankfull for every help!
An addition: I wouldn't mind if the procedure to recover (part) of the photos / videos would break my phone.
you didn't have any back-up solution? try some photo recovery apps from play Store like: DiskDigger or DigDeep Image Recovery, i can recover almost all deleted photos but have no experience abt recover video
In the past I've had phenomenal success with Dumpster: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.baloota.dumpster&hl=en
Of course I can't guarantee anything, as file deletion and recovery is a bit.... weird. However, with Dumpster I've been able to recover many photos on multiple occasions, even really old ones (months, maybe even a year for a few of them) I had forgotten I had deleted. I didn't even have it installed before deleting said photos either. That being said, since your photos/videos are freshly deleted, it may work out for you.
Good luck!
Thanks ubergeek77.
Unfortunately, Dumpster only recovers files that have been deleted after Dumpster has been installed. So it can't help in my case.
Any other ideas?
And there are some more promising tools for the PC. E.g. I tried Wondershare Dr.Fone for Android. It scans my phone (with superuser permission). But not a single photo / video of the ones that I deleted (70 GB) are found. What could be the problem here? Anybody out there who can help me and finds the time to reply?
Connect your phone to your Pc and try some recovery software like EaseUS..... (this is not a free software but you can install trial version).
hope it help.
Next time, if the transferring process is aborted , just undo and get back your file right from PC.
None of this tools found relevant photos or videos from the 70 GB i lost. I will now try to get an image of the data partition to recover the files on PC. Anybody can help me here?
I was now able to copy an image of the data partition on my computer -- using Photorec I could scan this partition for lost files. Unfortunately only undeleted or not relevant files were found. None of the files of the 70 GB deleted pictures and videos. But there have been tousands of files (from 4 MB each) extraced with the file extensions ".elf" and ".sqlite". I assume that these files are my lost photos and videos and that they, for any reason, cannot be assigned correctly .
This may be related to the file system ext4? Or the blocksize? Or any other reason related to the fact that these files were not deleted the standard way but while trying to move a to big folder to my PC.
What can I do here? I would be gratefull if any expert here being familiar with the ext4 filesystem or Android partititions could help me in any form. Please let me know if you need an additional information.
Looking forward to any reply. Thanks!

Very sorry! I totally misremembered what app I used. I just checked, and it was definitely DiskDigger, it works without having been installed first, and works even better with root: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.defianttech.diskdigger
Sorry for the confusion!
The results I mentioned were with root, so that may be something to keep in mind.
Also, I'm not 100% sure if TWRP backups are 1:1, but you should research a way to make a complete raw filesystem backup of your device if DiskDigger doesn't work. The more you use this phone, the more you risk losing some of those photos. With a raw disk image, you could mount it in Linux and throw every recovery tool you can find at it.
Best of luck. If I run across anything that may help, I'll be sure to post it here.

Stock ROM for the SM-T380 Rooted, Bloatware free TWRP backup

Since there isn't any Custom ROM for the SM-T380 I made this TWRP back from my tablet, running on stock Oreo took all the bloatware, Knox out to add some root mods, and latest updates with Magisk root. No other personal app added
This is a compressed TWRP backup, not a flashable ZIP!
Download it from here

how to install TWRP

DOWNLOAD/EXTRACT zip file from above Google Drive's link to your PC
Now REBOOT your tablet into TWRP recovery
connect tablet using USB cable to your PC make sure you have Samsung drivers installed, so you can see your tablet on your PC
ON your Tablet create a backup within TWRP's backup tab on your SD Card storage (choose storage SD card)
browse to that folder and open that SD card's TWRP backup folder, using your PC
go to last folder where you should see some files, delete them then
Copy EXTRACTED files from (Google Drives) into TWRP backups folder on your SD card TWRP/BACKUPS/xxxxxxxx/ from your PC to that SD card.
Where xxxxxxxx is your device serial number;
Once done copying the file
go to, restore's tab within your TWRP
RESTORE everything showing there (all those three partitions)
REBOOT to system
IF you can't see those copied files on your tablet then you have missed something. Restart back into TWRP
Thanks

Hi, I have a T380, I thought about installing this, but before I do, will this work on the t380? Because you have T380T, and I have T380. And if I want, can I put some of the stock apps back on?
Indeed it works on a T380

I just installed it on my T380.. Be sure to follow the directions entirely. And remember to reboot TWRP after putting the sdcard with the backup files back in or else it may not read it (mine would not).

followed the directions but device wont read the backup file. would you mind posting all the steps you took to do the backup.
I had the same issue, so when the proper backup files are in place on the ext sdcard and reinserted into the device, but the device won't read it -- for me, I had to reboot the device into recovery and THEN it would read it.

How to recover deleted data from unrooted device

Hey.
I use a Redmi note 7. A couple months ago, some important photos and videos from my phone got deleted. My phone isn't rooted. Hence, I'm unable to use data recovery softwares like dr. fone, and other apps like disk digger don't seem to work for me. In order to root my redmi phone, i would first need to unlock the bootloader, which will require a factory reset and will wipe all my current data also. I'm skeptical if i will be able to recover those deleted files after a full factory reset using dr. fone. It'll be helpful if someone can tell if there's a way around.
@shaunak saxena
You've no chance.
As far as I know, if you just want to recover some media files, such as photos and videos ,root is not required. Mobikin Doctor for Android free version should be helpful, use it to detect the lost videos and photos, check if the lost files are there. If they are, recovery is possible.

Videos lost by moving to another folder - is root possible without data loss?

Hi everyone,
last week I moved 6 videos from my camera folder to another folder.
1 video transfered correctly, all others are gone (nor visible in the gallery app, neither via filemanager).
As the phone only has an internal storage, I want to try to recover them, but it appears as I need root for this.
So is there a way to get root permissions without wiping all data?
I found this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/unlock-bootloader-without-losing-data.3864667/
And thought there might be a way to unlock the bootloader and root it without wiping all.
These videos are important for me, thats why I intended to moved it to a folder, that is synced via syncthing.
if you have any ideas I appreciate if you can share them.
Thanks a lot!
