Upgrade, downgrade, sidegrade path for H932 on Stock Pie - LG V30 Questions & Answers

Just want to collate some information from a number of different threads and discuss some of the options moving forwards for H932 users. I've been a long time user of Lineage, but couldn't resist the urge to try stock (TWRP) Pie. Thankfully I quite like it (the battery life is amazing) because now (and correct me if I'm wrong):
The H932 that's been "upgraded" to Stock Pie cannot install a custom rom as it will break a number of sensors including the camera
In order to go back to a custom rom of Pie or lower (Lineage / AOSP) based I must:
Downgrade to stock Nougat by flashing the stock (TWRP based) img,.
Run every update since then
Install the custom ROM of choice, but run it in permissive
Wait for a generous dev to create a H932 cusom rom that makes use of Pie blobs
None of the current Lineage 17 based roms work on H932 despite running Pie Blobs
H932 Converter does not work on any Lineage 17 based roms
It's not a biggie for me, but I'm still kicking myself. At least I've still got Root and TWRP.
Bit disappointed that none of these GSI based chinese Roms will work on H932 but as I'm stuck on stock Pie anyway, that's a mute point.

You merely need to downgrade to T-mobile H932 TWRP-flashable Oreo zip. Why do you think you need to downgrade to Nougat?
But since you have been on Pie, when running the custom ROMs you will need a permissive kernel and some sensors still may not work.

Yes, you were warned in the T-mobile H932 Pie thread...

Dunno - think I read somewhere that people had luck getting the sensors back with that one, but if we can't get them all back then it's a mute point.

Yes - but not in the Stock Collection thread - at least not until later in the thread (by which time it was too late). Unless of course the TWRP flashable stock rom is not affected by this issue. Maybe I've got my wires crossed.
I'm not complaining - such is the life of a flashaholic. Nevertheless, I'm wondering whether there is anything on the horizon and what others plan to do.......

OK, maybe to get all sensors back. Yeah, some EU H930 had to do that, Refurbish back to Nougat.
Not sure how it works with T-mobile H932 and TWRP flashable zip.
While I updated to Pie on my spare US998 V30+ just to know the process to write it up, on my daily bootloader unlocked and rooted V30+, I'm still on Oreo. Nothing compelling about Pie right now, and I don't want to waste hours trying to install all the mods and getting everything set up again. I need my phone for my job.

lg v30 spotted with android pie

Hey guyz lg v30 h930ds spotted on geekbench running Android pie
Won't PIE custom ROMs also show Android 9? That's what PIE is, Android 9. Someone from this forum has an AOSP PIE custom ROM on their H930DS and they wanted to see how it compared to other phones.
This below was published back in November for US998, people got excited then the writer admitted it could be from a PIE custom ROM.
According to our tipster, It is highly possible that the LG US998 spotted on GeekBench comes with Android 9 Pie AOSP Custom ROM. Someone who flashed an Android 9.0 CUSTOM ROM on LG US998 uploaded the geekbench test result.

Only 1 US variant of the V40 so far. (and they are up for over a week now btw)
Doesnt mean the av30 Pie update isnt far, could still be 3 months (for the Korean model, we will see when it arrives everywhere else). Even though i heard rumours (no facts!!!) that korean v30 might get the update in may.
Don't believe benchmark tests. Wasn't there an xda article about this just the other day? Where mishal and a bunch of others from xda did a fake benchmark on purpose for a device that didn't exist and it made it to a bunch of different websites. That info can easily be faked just by changing stuff in build prop

Stock PIE or LiquidRemix 10?

Depends on what you're looking for in a ROM.
I'd say try liquid 10.0.11 while you're still on oreo. Once you update to stock pie, pie aosp ROMs won't work well.

Well I'm just ordinary user.
Btw Is there any advantage if I go with stock pie?
I'm just read the comment on liquidremix thread, and it's look like the android 10 version isn't stable yet
I think I'll just go with liquidremix pie

H930DS on Pie - does this ruin my chances to install an Oreo custom ROM?

I quickly regretted upgrading because the audio on Pie sounds really bad compared to Oreo. But I've read this https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/how-to/root-v30-t3927154
which notes permanent changes to the system when going to Pie, such that reverting to Oreo and upgrading again to Pie custom roms will leave features broken, e.g. camera and flashlight.
Is this still true if I want to install an Oreo ROM like DotOS or Lineage 15?

You have to downgrade back to stock Oreo first to get Oreo blobs and from now on run a permissive kernel for most things to work right. That's why all the warnings are posted.

[H933] AOSP ROM support (9.0)

Hey there, I just wanted to know if there is any development or a guide available for flashing an AOSP rom for the H933 running android 9.0 (rooted+twrp).
The last news I've heard regarding this topic is something along the lines of, It cannot be done as the partitions are completely messed up now for those who upgraded to 9.0. I just want to know if that is where we still stand or if there is any development regarding this issue.
I know that the answer is probably in a thread somewhere in this form, and believe me, I have checked most of the relevant threads/posts and I have reached the conclusion that it is either buried deep in the archives somewhere or that no new development has been made regarding this issue. I made this thread to confirm my conclusions and help other H933 owners with the same question.
Cheers.

There's a dedicated thread to prepping your H933 for AOSP ROMs. Mentioned in the ROOT Sticky Guide.
Answered 100 times before. No need to start new thread. Just search better?
See screenshot for easy Google search. See first result.
That procedure is still how H933 can run any LOS-based ROM.
* For LOS-16 ROMs (more stable, less bugs) you need to be back on LG stock Oreo firmware (with TWRP) first. We just got a new LOS-16 ROM last week.
* For LOS-17 (Android 10) ROMs (more bugs) you need to be on LG stock Pie firmware (with TWRP) first.
Know the LOS-17 bugs first, so you don't complain. See LOS-16 and LOS-17 bugs list here, posts #2 and #3:

Sounds good thanks. Yeah, I should've clarified that I was searching for a way to just directly flash an AOSP rom from stock android 9.0 instead of downgrading to Oreo first. I really dont even want to look at LG up after going through the process that you and a few other amazing contributors here found to upgrade to Pie. Looks like I'll be sticking with the stock ROM for now.

If there was a way known to do that, it would be included in the guide.
Probably best to wait for newer aosp 10 ROMs to get updated(a lot ot fixes coming soon) if you don't want to go through hassle of going back to oreo.

I understand you want "custom."
There's a VERY customized ROM based on stock firmware, called A.I.S. Which is why I wanted clarification if you wanted LOS-based custom ROM or stock-based custom ROM. Since you say you want LOS-based, Havoc is probably the most popular LOS 17.1 based ROM with many more options than parent 17.1 itself. This is the most recent update below. Be aware that for all LOS 17.x -based ROMs you need stock Pie firmware installed first as a base for Pie blobs/drivers. You can't be on stock Oreo and jump to LOS 17.x ROMs.

Does your Wi-Fi work at full speed on custom roms? I'm having issues with my Wi-Fi speed and I was wondering if a custom rom would fix it.

I'm using HavocOS and its WiFi connection seems as fast as the rest of my devices. I just did a couple of tests with speedtest.net and actually got a slightly higher result with my V30+ (240Mbps) than with my laptop (which is also 802.11ac). Obviously, the internet connection is a limiting factor there and results would be different copying within the network, but I imagine that "full speed" to you means as fast of an internet connection as other devices, so the answer is yes, at least in my case.

That's the "Update" thread where other V30 LOS-based ROMs are released -- but A.I.X. is separate from that. However, still may be of interest to you.
NOTE: The instructions are very detailed for installing A.I.X. and when people don't follow directions and blame the Dev it won't end well for them. They will get booted from the A.I.X. thread. A.I.X. is not like installing a "regular" ROM, so don't go in with that expectation.
Having said all that, XDA is still where you will get the most detailed written assistance for LOS ROMs. I am just pointing you to Telegram where you can find more quantity of ROMs.
