Wireless backup camera apps - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This will probably get moved I didnt know where to put it. I am just looking at some info on what wireless apps i could use for my backup camera. Its one of those combo deals with a monitor. I dont need another 7 inch display for this since I already have and Android Radio. I use this camera for the back of my Camper and it would be useful for backing up or monitoring lane changes. I'll pull the part number off the camera this evening. I did find SWD camera app that might work I will try it. But are these camera systems linked specifically to the monitor?

I cannot find any markings on this camera, its sold by Emmako or amtifo. I also ran a wifi analyzer app and it didnt pick up anything.

[Q] Use Camera while on phone?

Hey all,
So I was on the phone with my bro and wanted to take a picture of something while I was talking to him. So I hit the Home button, got to the main screen, clicked on my Camera icon and it said "Camera not available while using phone". So I did a search on the forums and only found this thread. It made mention of 3rd party apps but is/are there a rom in development that overcome this limitation? If not, what are some recommended apps to use. Honestly, I like all the features in the stock Vibrant camera app and didn't know if any would actually utilize all their options. This isn't a OMG my phone sucks item, it'd just be filed under things that would be nice to have since my old iPhone 3g actually had this capability.
Any recommendations/help are always appreciated.
FxCamera is what I use. I like it.
My old G1 had that capability as well.
I could also use the camera and media players when the battery was almost dead.
HTC seems to understand we aren't children that need to be smacked when we want to do something they don't think we should [Maybe Apple just didn't think of it though].
I remember my last samsung phone started to limit what you could do when the battery was getting low. nice to have 3rd party apps now.
So I tried the FxCamera app. It's not too bad. Any other recommended apps that get around this annoyance?

I only use FxCamera just in case I take a pic during a call. I like stock better. You can make a shortcut by long pressing homescreen, choose shortcuts, scroll down till you see FxCamera Quick Launch and choose what effect you want (I always use normal) and thats it. So when you are on a call you only one click away of taking a pic instead going in to the menu and choose what effect you want.

[Q] Giving my GTab to my daughter ... Any ideas on ROMS/Software?

Seems like the correct place for this:
Anyone know of a ROM or program that will allow me to set it up so that she has limited access to programs/system?
Perhaps a launcher I can lock down such that it only shows her games and gallery video player, camera, etc.?
I figure I will use Button Remapper to deactivate the search/home/menu/back buttons (otherwise she will accidentally hit them when watching a video or playing a game).
Not sure what to do about the soft buttons---she needs to be able to access menus and go back somehow.
Oh, she is 3. She uses it all the time and loves the games I put on there, but the issues above need to be resolved before it is practical for her to use. It has been gathering a lot of dust since I got my new phone, and she really wants to have her own computer...
Any other ideas are welcome too of course.
Thanks

To recommend a rom that would satisfy both her needs and yours I would look towards a 2.2 froyo based rom, any of them would do but for perfomance for games and working camera I would go with Beasty.
To be able to lock certain system settings and apps you can look into a face lock app from the market. There are numerous free versions to try out, but one you find the one thqts works right for your needs suggest purchase version for more options.
In a similar situation...handing down the tablet to my nephews and niece. They really want to be able to video chat. Are there any HC/ICS based ROMs that have the camera working? I've been away too long and haven't kept up with dev. Hoping someone can help me narrow down the search.
TIA!

[Q] Closing Recently Browsed Apps

Guys, Can I pls get your help for the below issues I have with my Sony Tablet S
I cant seem to "close"recently used apps', even after completely shutting down & disconnecting power. Its like I want to "delete browsing history" on a PC
I cant seem to log-out of Gmail at all as I can't see an option to do so.
The remote control learner does not learn at all, inspite of following all instructions. I have a Pioneer Amp to control music, but I've had no luck. After some research I've found out that the tablet can only learn from some models post 2011. Is this true?
I also have an Onkyo reciever for which I've downloaded the andriod app. This works well, but the app inevitably starts with the wrong orientation - inspite of my best efforts to hold the tab in the correct direction in which the app opened the last time. (It seems to rotate regardless)
I have no other issues such as force close or auto dimming as per my understanding of the most frequent issues on this forum
Thanks for your help guys. I really need it. Cheers
You could use "Advanced Task Killer free ( Or pro )
If you close an app does not mean it really shuts down but it wil stay there in memory,
The Task Killer will terminate all running apps.
Gmail is always running unless you uncheck the auto synchronize with Gmail,
you can find that in Settings / Accounts if that's what you meant.
I have several IR devices and i choose them from the device list no problems at all some actions didn't work well so I had to learn it from my remote control that worked fine to.
Orientation is a known issue but if you have your tablet rooted you could use a rotation app which requires root access something like full rotation i quess can't remember.
Don't mind my English

I have learned my tablet remotes from Dreambox 800HD (digitalbox for cable) and from my Harman Kardon AVR255 EU (reciever) and both are pre 2011. I also got it to work with a tv and digitalbox when I was visiting my father in the US. Can't remember the models though, but no problems with the remote. The tv in US was an old "fat-tv" not the new flat-tv
Honeycomb has no built-in method of killing apps at user request and for a good reason: Android does a better job itself. If Android needs to kill an app, it will do so, so you don't need to do it yourself. As for clearing history and the like, thats a bit trickier, but the stock Browser does include Incognito tabs for private browsing.
Gmail, on the other hand cannot be logged out of unless you go into Settings -> Accounts & Sync and either turn off Gmail sync (which still leaves you signed in, but not updating) or simply delete the Google Account. Gmail's not really made to be signed in or out of regularly.
As for your problems with the IR, thats definitely not the case and whatever your problems are, they're relatively isolated. Can you give us more detail on what you've tried and what happens when you do so?
With your Onkyo app, that almost invariably means that the developer has not included landscape support. If there is no landscape option for an app, it will force rotate to portrait, or vice versa if the app doesn't have portrait support. If you're sure they have, make sure that the Auto-Rotate Screen in your Settings toggles is set to On and if it still doesnt work, email the developer and let them know. Could be an isolated issue.
The question was not how to kill apps the question was how to delete recently opened apps and I have this question too. It seems there is no way.
Where are you finding these recently closed apps? As far as I knew Honeycomb didn't have any equivalent of the pre-3.0 "hold home button" dialog. The multitasking button in the bottom left shows running, paused and killed apps together, so there is no way to differentiate between recently used and closed apps, and recently used but still running apps.
maybe this helps

dont know about honeycomb cause i never tried this on it but on ics u can drag the apps out of the recently opened apps drawer and it disappears... try it... maybe it helps... or u can wait for the ics update to help u get rid of this issue....
Yes on ICS. But ICS came out last night us only for the moment. And with he there is no way.

As Schrammi said, that is a new ICS feature and on Honeycomb, the only way to clear apps from the multitasking panel is to reboot (which will also end the app, obviously)

NFC: Pictures

Using NFC may seem easy, but I was having a hell of a time getting my note 2 and my girlfriends DNA to transfer photos. I was using quickpic. This did not work.
Instead, I used the stock gallery and it transferred pictures just fine using bluetooth. I went through a bunch of apps and ended up buying send! Pro | File Transfer(NFC). This app worked well because it seemed to use wifi direct instead of bluetooth. I'm in no way affiliated with the app, but it does work well and wanted you guys to know if you were looking for an app. I also tried bump, didn't send high res pics (although I didn't investigate fully if it could). I also tried blueNFC which didn't work as well as the stock Android beam.
The nicest thing about Send! is that it uses wifi direct. Seems like versions of the one X had wifi direct built in. No idea why verizon or HTC didn't include it (along with a menu button!), but luckily Send! will work until the next software release when they include these features.

[Q] Some pre-installed APK?s

I see "voicecommand.apk" in /system/app. Does it work? How to use?
I know I can install google search with google now features. I am just trying to figure out what some of the pre-installed stuff actually does.
Also what does "Omacp.apk" do? Sounds like a man in the middle SMS attack???
And YGPS.apk does what?
This is only my second MTK device. Have only really 'hacked' around on Allwinner devices. Seems like there is a whole new set of bloat/mal/spyware for each SOC!
"Omacp.apk"- Can be found on multiple devices including those from Samsung. Even found in some CM builds. Has to do with SMS notifications.
YGPS.apk- Found on every MTK device with a GPS and is key to GPS function.
mal/spyware on this device is deeper than some generic apps. Think OTA system and other core system level apps. And with as many ancient security holes as the firmware has, I don't see them getting fixed. Some of the holes go as far back as mid-2012. Allwinner devices are a fortress compared to the TS.
ok cool so far
Thanks Loki.
I did try to google those (and others) only finding useless stubs of info. jaded comment: I *know* it is a android app --> the apk is on my android device. DOH? Useless websites, click bait.
One thing I like about 4.2.2 is you can still do the vold.fstab tricks. So my external 32Gb (from omate) is my internal SD. Now I need to look into repartitioning the internal emmc for more app /data storage. Wondering if this MTKrepartion app I found will work? HEX editing ERBs does not sound like fun yet.
I removed YGPS based on its permission list (everything!) between my post and reading your reply and quickly went from "seeing" 11 sats with no signal from any of them to a lock with 5 strong and 4 good signals while indoors behind the metal bars on my window (ground level in the city). My Nexus 7 has a hard time getting a lock in this spot.
Now I have been leaving chartcross GPS test running with it in the window frame a few times while doing other things. Had no SIM in it yet so AGPS was out and I guess the last place it had a lock was Hong Kong? So maybe that was just the right moment for it to sync up but odd. I had been "seeing" 9-14 sats off and on but never any signal bars until then.
One last thing this round: I can not get TWRP recovery to 'stick'. I have removed "recovery-from-boot.p" but still no stick. I even used DD command to copy/install manually as root. scratching head. FYI on newest firmware via OTA update.
OK not the last thing. This is. How to add a icon to the launcher (not OUI) manually for an existing app?
If you buy from Omate China the watch comes installed with many additional apps than the kickstarter one, including google play.
OmaCP so far...
It is some kinda Open Mobile Alliance WAP manager. It can be safely removed from samsung devices with no effect. When I removed it from the truesmart I lost text msg notifications, still got the text msg just no notification.
Is there a bloatware removal thread someplace I am missing?
