Does rooting method changes whenever I update my phone the official way? - Samsung Galaxy A3, A5, A7 (2017) Guides, News, & D

I have never rooted my A7 (2017) so far. But I always look for the rooting method for my phone every now or then. About 3 days ago, I updated my phone to latest security patch of October 2019 and I feel like all the threads and discussions for A7 phone has become outdated for me. Or does they still work?

Yup everything still works. The part that changes, is getting oem unlock toggle to show. Read corsicanu's thread how to enable it if you can't find it in dev options.

***Warning*** DO NOT FLASH/INSTALL NEW MARSHMALLOW UPDATES!

Samsung Galaxy J5 (2015)
DO NOT FLASH/INSTALL NEW MARSHMALLOW UPDATES BECAUSE YOU CAN'T DOWNGRADE TO 5.1.1 ANYMORE !!!
DO NOT UPDATE YOUR PHONE ON 5.1.1, NEITHER ON 6.0.1 THROUGH SOFTWARE UPDATE !!!
( If you are on 5.1.1/6.0.1 and you update it from Settings > About phone > Software Update, I think you might end with same problem. )

A warning to all ... samsung has come up with marshmallow bootloaders starting from baseband versions J1 (this is the last 2 values of baseband version) which will NOT allow u to downgrade ur bootloader...it will show an error like aboot.mdn fused ..which means u are stuck on marshmallow forever until a newer baseband is available...so be careful while upgrading to marshmallow from lollipop fellas :good:

Hi good people of XDA, i'm currently running a samsung j500h with a 6.0.1 update.
I really want to root it. I tried every possible way and followed every instruction on every sites that i went through (including here). But it doesn't seem to work on my phone. So i asked a developer form facebook and he suggested that i try downgrading to lollipop, from there root my phone and install a pre rooted 6.0.1 rom. But i cant do that as well.
Here are the errors that i'm getting:
CF-autoroot,twrp and su update flash: phone cant boot into recovery, it shows the samsung logo but with a black line that ramdomly pops on any part of the screen and slowly making it blur.
Cf auto root on the other hand, makes my phone stuck on the logo. it never boots now matter how long i wait.
Downgrading:
Error on phone says like these: aboot write fail: Fused 2>binary 1 (something like that)
it still boots and still on 6.0.1.
Does someone here has the same problem?

Unfortunately, i couldn't find any fix/tips about this after a Google search.
I'm not sure, but I think that if Samsung release new 5.1.1 updates, maybe it will have a new bootloader too and maybe then we can downgrade from 6.0.1 to 5.1.1.

Samsung has indeed become a huge crap. Android is an open source but these dudes always tend to make it a closed source. Really upset with this but we have no choice. Whether u update manually or via kies it will be the same.
And thanks henkate for making this thread. This will be proved useful to many. :good:
I got reply from moderator regarding sticky thread and he told me that sticky thread is not necessary because there are too low discussions on our J5 forum (it's not so popular) and that when our J5 forum will be more "developed"/popular, we could have a sticky thread which would contain all those important threads.
So, this thread will not be on top of this section ( Guides, News & Discussions) when there will be new threads or new posts in other threads.
thank u so much big bro

Agreed. Quite often Samsungs bootloaders are backwards compatible with previous firmware.
Boot.img and system.img should be all that is required to downgrade and possibly NON-HLOS.BIN if there are wifi issues.
Not only that there's a possibility the bootloader doesn't need to be flashed and the MM rom will boot with the lollipop bootloader.
However there are no guarantees either way.

It's not fake. The two users who reported has J500H. The latest firmware changelist of J500H is not same as J500FN one (also I don't see a firmware with "J" at FN). Maybe the new update didn't come on J500FN yet.
Whether you believe it or not, it's up to you. Keep updating if you want, but then don't complain here that you can't downgrade.

Let's talk about: future updates for HUAWEI P9 Plus!

Hi everyone!
I created this post in June 2017 to see when we would get Oreo for our Huawei P9 Plus. We still did not get what we wanted. At least Huawei stepped up their game and got very good in the security patch updates.
However, I am officially changing phones to the Oneplus 6.
The Huawei p9 Plus is still a great phone but I really hate the ultra slow updates. I WILL KEEP THIS PAGE UPDATED in the future because I will keep my Huawei P9 Plus as a secondary phone... for now. However, I will not check for updates everyday anymore so I will keep checking this forum and once some begin getting a new update, I will check my phone again and update this page.
Thank You
WINTERWOLF
UPDATE 24 MAY 2018:
We are indeed all on the May 2018 security patch now with build 385!
Now on: VIE-l09C432B385, Android 7.0 with EMUI 5.0.3, May 2018 security patch.
That's the reason I will search other brand(s) with regular OS updates. Shame for Huawei...

Couldn't agree more! Wished they are good at keeping the firmware updates at least for flagships just like what Xiaomi done to their flagships. Outdated firmware for flagships really makes me wondering why did i bought this phone at the first place (apart from great specifications and its camera)
I was very Happy with Huawei (hardware side)
Now i'm really disappointed
Huawei P9 Plus was my first Huawei Phone. When I purchased it somewhere August 2016, I feel very exciting of the quality of the phone. However, day after day, feel that Huawei very slow in release the phone firmware even Huawei P9 was one of their best selling phones. Huawei seems don't care of the software development and continue support of its phones.
What can we do? My next phone will not be Huawei.
I saw vie-l29c636b382 on firmware finder. anyone try yet?
I tried by using proxy method. Not working since the file not signed by Huawei yet. You can do it if you have rooted by using TWRP method.

The OTA system is completely broken. EU phones have had 9 Nougat updates already. just get to marshmallow B11, then update to Nougat B09
A quick question from being new to the Axon 7, will this relock my bootloader, and or will I lose my ability to root? I'm on B32, but downgraded bootloader with toolkit, and am rooted with SuperSU. I am loving my Axon 7, having had it 1 month. Previous phone was a POS Sony xperia z4, and the Axon blows it away.

No, and never lock it. You'll end up with a brick if you ever lock the bootloader without getting the phone completely functional and 100% stock (recovery, system)
Thankyou, I never intend to or want it locked. So I assume all I'll have to do after the update is re-flash superSU?:good:

Other than the security patches, seems like a very light update. Does anyone have it yet? Are the improvements mostly under the hood or is there anything actually noticable?
I'm mostly looking forward to Oreo and hopefully fixing the metadata Bluetooth problem.
Nothing noticeable. Updated security patch to December.

I'm sure this is just coincidence, but I've been trying to get a Sprint S7 working properly on T-mobile's network and was communicating with both T-mobile and Samsung support all last week, advocating for both of them to increase their bootloader version. In particular, I think it makes sense for the 930U to always match or exceed the highest carrier version. I'm not sure if there's any substantive difference among bootloader versions, but that way users would always have the freedom to switch carriers. (The 930P often fails to make calls on T-mobile's network, since it doesn't support VoLTE).
This should probably drop around mid-November based on past updates and codes.
I have bootloader version 7 I think if it goes by the 5th number. I keep getting fuse errors when I try to flash this phone and I've never flashed anything before.

Ahh OKay I figured mine was 7 because I'm on Oreo and my PDA: G930PVPS7CRH2. IM on the sprint variation and I'm just stuck at this point. I'm not sure about xposed, but if you're stuck with your phone in a non-functional state after trying to install a lower bootloader firmware, you can always re-flash the latest stock sprint firmware.

No I don't have it anymore.
Some DN2103 users got A21 update, some got straight C.01 of OOS 12.

I think there is no A21 for IN only A20.
Did you manage to downgrade from a.21 to a.20?
Why you need to downgrade? Just wait the stable release for next A12 update.

I understand your concern about android security patch. Despite this, you'd prefer a stable working software. OnePlus development cicle is weird lately. They will put update when ready. Some users get it in beta stage although say stable, some not.
If you in hurry can safely downgrade to A20 following the tutorial and then upgrade via system o oxygen updater.
Cheers.
