No. V20 launched with Nougat just like V30. You get two letter upgrades. They both got Oreo and Pie.

Pretty much this, and I highly doubt we'll get any more security patches as the phone is already 2 years old.. Sad but knowing LG that's how it is.

We'll get more security patches due to the Enterprise Recommended agreement with Google.
3 years, at least every 90 days. But ticking clock didn't go into effect until Oreo upgrade which was 2nd quarter - 3rd quarter 2018.
So, theoretically updates through mid-2021.

7.0 Nougat to arrive THIS YEAR!!

Yep, no joke. It's all over. Motorola has confirmed that Moto Z and Moto G4 will be getting Nougat taste in Q4, which actually beings only 4 days after.

I think it will take Moto G4 around December when first 7.0 build comes out.
What do you say?

Sadly, the Lenovo-owned Motorola is not the same thing as Google-owned Motorola. The updates aren't that faster now. Motorola had already acknowledged that even for their flagship like Moto Z, they would not push out security updates every month -- as they want to pack them in a bunch and release together quarterly or something.
For the Moto G4, I think they would do the same, or even at a lower rate. We haven't seen too many updates from Moto this year, compared to regular builds showered at Galaxy models by Samsung every now and then.
But it's okay, right? Security patches don't break the whole deal, and Moto G4 is an awesome device, at awesome price -- a range where not too many OEMs can say 'this device of ours will get Nougat, and that too within 4 months of the 7.0's release'. Right?
Speaking of updates, just got a prompt this morning to install Update MPJ24-139-64
This is on a US AMZ Lenovo G4
If anyone has applied it, good or bad effects?

Does the security patch level show May 1, 2016 or a later date. If later then it was probably just a security patch.

How can I get the new update of Nougat whenever it gets released? I am on Amazon prime phone with a locked bootloader and de-bloated.

I'm guessing that with the locked bootloader you didn't do much de-bloating so even though it's an Amazon Prime phone and it's still locked, it should hopefully still get the update. The information I got from someone at Amazon was that the Amazon phones would still have updates pushed out to them, it will just be a slightly different rom.
Is there NO ONE who has an unofficial nougat rom for this phone?! I've been working on getting it to run android 7.0 for hours, and every single threat I've looked at is all talking about the 2013, 2014, 2015 versions, or the one with the fingerprint scanner, or another moto device, talking about code names that in my searches I've never seen associated with any moto models. I bought this phone for the sole purpose of getting Android 7.0 on it. I refuse to believe that we have an UNLOCKED phone, that's ROOTABLE, that a Nougat ROM does NOT exist for. I would be elated if someone directed me to a file that WORKS. Both the ones I've tried have failed, and it won't tell me why.

What ones you have tried? No surprises there that it failed as they are not intended for the 2016 Moto G4/G4 Plus!
Quite simply, the 2016 model does not have the unofficial nougat, as the binary blobs for this cannot be found., if it was, there would have been a port of the AOSP ROM for it or a custom ROM available.
Can't you just wait a month or so until N is officially released? What is it that you're so desperate to get with Nougant anyway.

For some reason even though I combed through the threads with the model number specific to my device, and the name and "sub-name" I suppose one could call it, and still didn't find anything. I've since taken it back and gone another direction, but I appreciate the input.
If you want nougat, the AOKP rom from the g4 plus forum on here runs super smooth. They're on to nightly builds. The only real issue I had was installing host files on my adaway app, and assigning a custom ringtone. The ringtone issue is a bug in the rom that the developer said he'd address in the next build. I just switched ad blocker software for now, and I'm back in business.
I got Nougat on Moto Z Verizon but still waiting for G4 update...still shows Security Update May 1. lol

H870 for South America has not received the update yet.
Took an age but just downloaded Oreo. Will update after a few days of use!
Wife's H870 updated yesterday evening. I updated mine manually a few hours before using LG Bridge (I was on Fulmics 4.2, so it didn't want to OTA itself).

After almost a month's worth of use, I'm not noticing any difference in performance. Admittedly I'm still running the ROM with as many different things disabled/restricted due to the battery drain issue I had running Nougat. I'll have to see about performing a factory reset and see how well it performs.
Will keep you posted

In the scheme of smartphone updates, if you gotta have the "latest and greatest" OS on your phone (not counting security patches),
you'll have to get either:
Apple iPhone, Google Pixel, Oppo OnePlus, Essential, or a couple other phones.
Most Android phone manufacturers, don't bother with updates, for a few reasons. One, they don't want to spend the resources
to make sure the new OS works with their goofy UI/bloat garbage, and older hardware. Two, it's been easier to talk people into just tossing them in the trash and buying a new one.
My phone (huawei mate9),works PERFECTLY on Oreo, has been getting the monthly security patches about 30 days late.
Would I like to have Pie? Yes. Will my life be impacted if it doesn't happen? NO.
IF, (and it's a big if), Google's Treble works out, phones SHIPPED/Released with Oreo or later, will have "major" updates and patches done by google, and the UI/bloat done by the carrier or manufacturer.
It would be nice to have gestures without a 3rd party launcher... also additional battery savings. I know the phone is already phenomenal on the battery , but we could all use more juice. Screen rotation is also going to be more to my liking with Pie.
I will post when I see the update.

Sprint V30 (LG-LS998) Android Pie Question

I have a Sprint V30, and I'm seriously annoyed with not having an update to Pie. I've read in some places that you can use LGUP to flash a LG-LS998 with a US998 kdz. Is that true? Or will that screw up my phone?

But you still use Sprint, right?
Most people do that to either
1) carrier unlock LS998 by flashing Open Market US998 firmware, which also changes radio/modem
OR
2) to bootloader unlock and install TWRP custom recovery -- at which point if they are Sprint customers they often then flash back to Sprint firmware (while keeping TWRP and root). Because US998 modem/radio doesn't have all the Sprint LTE bands. For Sprint customers, the Frankenstein LS998 to US998 flash is temporary necessity for bootloader unlock only.

@ChazzMatt actually held off on 9.0 as well as many people regret updating to 9.0 such as myself. The only real difference in this update is LG UX8. 9.0 just doesn't offer much.
Remember, this is not a Pixel. Those users NEED updates to try to catch up to features regular users actually have.

1) Because most custom ROMs don't work right once phone is updated to Pie. I have clear warning in every Pie KDZ thread I maintain. Even if you downgrade back to stock Oreo, if try to install custom ROM you then have run a permissive kernel for camera to work and even then some sensors may be messed up.
2) On stock Pie, some apps we like to use like Shortcut Master won't work.
There's nothing currently in stock Pie that's better than stock Oreo. Except for the minor upgrade to UX8.0. But it doesn't look any different. The camera is the same, etc.
Here's what is podted5:

@ChazzMatt can you the following warning/disclaimer to the first post:
If you flash pie KDZ then AOSP/(Lineage) ROMs like LOS, RR, havoc won't work properly.
Even if you flash (downgrade back to) Oreo KDZ and then flash AOSP ROMs, the camera and flashlight won't work on enforcing but will work on permissive.
But even on permissive a few sensors other than the camera may not work. This will be the case until AOSP ROMs with Pie blobs come.

Not the Quad DAC itself, but a very important feature added on several months ago -- DTS 3D Stereo -- doesn't work with a popular media player on Pie.
Basically there's nothing about Pie that is neccesary to have and several things right now that can cause problems.

Yes, we even have H930DS TWRP flashable zips.
We even have a mod from Australia with an H930DS, rooted of course.
Yes, all V30 variants on Pie have DTS.
All V30 variants on last 2 or 3 Oreo updates (released in 2019) also have it EXCEPT for Canada H933. H933 never got an Oreo update with DTS libs for some reason. (They can always convert to 2019 US998 Oreo and have it.)

1) I'm still on rooted stock Oreo as the latter releases are more stable than LG's Pie firmware, at least on US998. Even on EU H930, Pie was so bad LG cancelled the first Release Candidate (EU 30a), LG then deleted their 2nd attempt (EU 30b) from their severs a few days after public release, and only the 3rd release doesn't have major complaints.
2) Why are you wanting to use beta Q, when Android 10 has been released for MONTHS?
Letter is ALWAYS THE BETA.
______
P.S. Stop calling Android 10 "Q". Its no longer beta.
"L", "M", "N", "O", "P", "Q" were the beta letters before release and Google officially named them. I could go all the way back to beta "C" which became "Cupcake" -- but you get the point.
L became Lollipop (Android 5, 2014)
M became Marshmallow (Android 6, 2015)
N became Nougat (Android 7, 2016)
O became Oreo (Android 8, 2017)
P became Pie (Android 9, 2018)
Q simply became Android 10, 2019
Deal with it. Google decided not to use sweet snack/dessert name anymore, so they only went with the version number instead. There was always a version number behind the dessert name.
No one calls "Oreo" and "Pie" as "O" or "P", since they are not beta anymore. No one asks "Do we have a new 'P' KDZ yet?" nor "Which is better 'O' or 'P''? Everyone calls them "OREO" and "PIE". Well, "Q" isn't beta anymore either... It's "Android 10".
Here's the Oreo official statue at Google Headquarters:

Not on this device they aren't. Take a look back at all the threads titled "How can I downgrade from Pie to Oreo" and consider why those exist.:good:

I have "How to Downgrade from Pie to Oreo" instructions in every KDZ thread because of LG's fiasco Pie releases. Took them three times to get a somewhat decent EU H930 KDZ. I cannot recommend US998 Pie to anyone, and I am still on rooted stock Oreo. LG still has not released Open Market US998 Pie -- the one we are using (not me!) is technically for U.S. Cellular and is very wonky. Sprint still won't certify the LS998 Pie LG tried to foist on them -- sad that U.S. Top 4 carrier V30 variant still doesn't have Pie.
I would NOT want Android 10 for the LG V30, even if LG did try to release it. Get Pie straightened out first.

I own an LG V30 H930 EU stock rom,and when i bought it as used from a friend,it was already updated to Pie v30b.
Always the screen on time was between 7 and 9 hours for every charge, depending on the use each time of course.
The charging periods were every 30 to 40 hours minimum, until the last update v31a.
After this update my screen times had been reduced to maximum 5 hours, and one more strange thing was happening..after every full charge,my battery drained from 100% to 94% in about half hour without even i touch my phone.
So i decided to factory reset but without result, always had that battery drain and the same low screen on times, and of course i had to charge it every day.
One day i decided to try the rom flashing and i downgraded to the latest Oreo v22j.
The results were amazing, the battery drain from 100% to 94% dissappeared, and much more important?i have the same great screen on times of more than 7 hours between charges..and of course i charge it every 2 days now.
I think that says a lot for the Pie "upgrade", to me at least.
Maybe you can try flashing Oreo again and if you dont like it return to Pie and compare..it is a very easy procedure if you follow the exact instructions that are given from ChazzMatt.
I'm on pie 30b & I can get easily get 7-8 hour sot. Sometime 9 hour. But sot is too subjective. It does not totally reflect the battery usage.
