turn on device by fingerprint sensor? - Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Questions & Answers

I'm used to the Huawei fingerprint sensor that scans and turns the device on at the same time.
On Samsung it seems if have to double tap oder press the on button before I can unlock it with my fingerprint. Is there a way to set it up to unlock and wakeup with the fingerprint at the same time?

You can't unlock and power on device using only fingerprint scanner because tab s6 has optical scanner. To use it, the screen must be on and backlit.

The Huawai P30 Pro manages that just fine with the same hardware.

You can double tab on screen and then use the finger sensor

Can you read? That's what I said in my initial post, that's to unnecessary tabs to many.

I agree, double tap, then fingerprint is to many when I'm not using a case that has auto-wakeup capability.
Unfortunately, I can only suggest another alternative since the fingerprint sensor isn't active with the screen off. When I don't have an auto-wakeup case on the Tab S6, I pick up the tablet and my finger hits the S-Pen's button on the back which makes the S6 wakeup. So, a quick press of the S-Pen button, or removal of the S-Pen itself is easier than using the power button for me when I don't have an auto-wakeup case on it.

Yea thats more convenient than the double tab when holding it in my hand, actually I wondered yesterday why the device sometimes turns on on its own, but I must have just moved the pen slightly while moving it.

The December 2019 update will allow you to do just what the Huawei can do, now you no longer have to double tap the screen or press the power button just place finger on the in screen fingerprint sensor and it will wake up and unlock.

Using fingerprint to wake % LOCK screen

Is there a possibility to use fingerprint sensor to wake and lock device as it is on double tap to wake without (or with) security check? I think it would be great feature to add on roms. Cheers
I used fingerprint sensor to unlock/wake my phone. Used xmiui and set double tapped the back key to put my phone to sleep/lock.

S7 edge greenify hibernate and lock screen affecting fingerprint sensor issue

Just did a software update on my s7 edge phone. Not rooted. Been using greenify hibernate and lock screen. Before the update, the fingerprint sensor worked. But now I no longer am able to use fingerprint sensor to unlock instead must put in my password. If i use the phones power key to lock the screen, then I can unlock using my fingerprint sensor. I'm using a hard case for my phone and it's not easy to press the power key button. Anyone has a solution for this issue?

How do you unlock the phone with fingerprint?

Hello everybody
I want to know how fingerprint unlocking works with that phone. I mean if, when the screen is off, you have to press the button and then swipe the finger over the sensor, or you can only touch the sensor, or you have to swipe it, or you have to turn the screen on and then touch the sensor, etc etc.
Other question, is it possible to use always the fingerprint? Or there are situations in which you have to use the pattern/pin/password in any case? (I mean after rebooting the system or when you turn the screen off from an app, for example)
Thank you
Best regards

You need to unlock manually using the pattern/alternativ unlocking method after each reboot.
To unlock with fingerprint you simple have to push the power button so the device wakes up and leave your finger on the power button for like a second to recognize your fingerprint. After that you are in the home/main screen

Thank you for your reply
Excluding at reboot, is there other cases in which you have to insert pin/pattern for unlocking instead of simple fingerprint?
How accurate is fingerprint identification? I mean, you have only to keep the finger on the power button in 100% cases or sometimes fingerprint is not recognized or recognized slowly or you have to take the finger off and then touch the sensor again, or swipe the finger on it and so on?
(I'm sorry for these questions but I'm trying to decide between z5c and xc)

If your fingers are really sweaty or "dirty" you have to touch the sensor again/a few times (moving the finger doesnt help, you have to retouch it). But most of the times (98%?) it works on first touch.

Okok, thank you. I'm trying to compare z5c and xc, and on many reviews online I found that the fingerprint scanner is more fast, responsive and accurate on xc than z5c.
And for the other specs, do you recommend me z5c or xc?

Tap to wake

Hi. Just wondering if it has tap to wake or if placing your finger on the scanner will wake the device? Thanks
I am curious about this as well
from what I've seen on videos tapping on screen on the wrong spot would illuminate a purple fingerprint where you should put your finger, placing it again on top of that figure would unlock, an you have to actually press firmly not just slight touch as external FP sensors. If you press in the right spot at the first try it unlocks with only just that one single press. I'm hoping it is accurate enough so after we develop some muscle memory it unlocks at the first press 9/10 times.
I wished it had double tap anywhere to wake up/see lock screen/start face id though
Can confirm, tapping only shows where the fingerprint reader is. If you just straight put your finger on it the phone will unlock.
That is so good though..... No need to use power button. Plus if you use smart lock...i assume if your in your home or safe area.... You can avoid even using the fingerprint?

To be honest Mate 20 was silent about smart lock for now. It didn't auto suggest smart lock for any of BT devices I paired or the home Wi-Fi. Maybe I have to enable it manually. Weird the LG V20 I am coming from tried to shove that in my face on all ocassions.
... I did some digging, looks like smart lock for unlocking is not present (Smart Lock itself is on the phone).

Question Fingerprint sensor

I don't know anything about how under-screen fp readers work, but... Is there no way to use it when the screen is off?
On previous phones I always used the fingerprint sensor to turn on and unlock with one touch, but this N20 5G seems to only fp-unlock when A) The screen is on, and B) The "fingerprint goes here" icon is visible.
The screen will usually turn on when I pick up the phone ("Somatic Gesture"); the fingerprint icon then appears for a few seconds, then goes away. That seems to be the only window for unlocking without clicking the power button.
Am I missing a trick?
I use double tap to wake and it works great. The sensor stays lit up for about 7 full seconds before going black. YMMV
Good point, double-tap to wake was disabled by default!
Still two more taps than I'd prefer to get to the fingerprint unlock, but I guess that's more a reflection of how incredibly lazy I've become than a problem with the phone.
