Double tap to Lock screen gone after A.20? and multiple problems with launcher :( - Realme 3 Pro Questions & Answers

It has been 6-7 days with my new Realme 3 pro and I feel I made a terrible mistake despite all the warnings and reviews about color os. Very bad user experience and lots of bugs and issues.
I did lot of debloating via ADB and decided to use Nova launcher as I have the paid version which I am using for years now on different devices.
Problem with stock launcher of realme / color os - There is no option of "Double tap to lock screen". This is very basic. It has option for Double tap to wake but not double tap to lock. This is must have feature for me.
I can achieve this using Nova Launcher which is much better but there are other issues as color os doesn't properly supports Nova Launcher it seems. If I use clone apps, it places the 2nd icon on home screen and if you are using nova or third party launcher cloned app icons doesn't appear on home screen
Also, the color os wallpapers cannot be selected from nova launcher settings.
Also, the clock and weather widget of color os doesn't works with Nova launcher.
Any suggestion plz. Need to use clone apps also and double tap to lock screen also. Would prefer to use Nova but can use stock launcher also in the worst case. Plz help.
Also, I don't see the custom rom development is very good here like in that of xiaomi devices. Still there are bugs and no fully stable / functional roms yet. I am really worried. I am very knitpicky and can't bear this ****ty color os for 2-3 years.

coloros 7 will be launched on 20th november..
plus dev have successfully compiled a custom kernel for realme 3 pro although it is in beta mode.. wait for some time.. development will pick up pace

Zero expectations from coloros 7. It will be even more pathetic and introduce more bugs.
Very immature and poor quality software team of Oppo / Realme.

dont be so judgemental.. atleast let them launch first

Yeah guys, they are trying man. Also, they do not have a huge community support like MI/ Redmi does!!! Enthusiast who like to use custom rom's and flush mods purchase only the redmi phones given the volume of community support in XDA & Mi forums!!!

Custom Notification Bar Icons Help

It might sound silly but I actually one of those guys who pay attention to small details in making my experience using this budget phone feels like extraordinary. Some icons on the notification bar are just dull like the battery icon. The looks is just not for me especially after looking the one in iPhone 11. My main goal for now is just to change that alone, but if there's an app that offers more customization for other icons, I will gladly take them. I tried googling it and found about Xposed framework. I tried downloading the apk and installed it. It says that it needs framework or something like that. I uninstalled it and go to Magisk and try to download it from there from the Modules tab. I found it and tried to install it. It gave me an error. Tried it three times. Apparently it's not going to work on Android other than from 5.0 to 8. Now I don't know where else to look since that one was the only one looking promising.
There used to be beautiful themes for POCO when it was on MIUI 10. For example I used to use one called PixPie Dark. It gave me new battery icon, lock screen animations, new navigation bar etc.
Now that we are on MIUI 11 the old themes are not compatible. And newer ones have not been made (yet) which have all the customizations.
I absolutely hate the MIUI 11 default icons. They look outdated.
Anyway here's my desktop setup.

Nice....
Does the wallpaper change as per time?
What theme is it? And what's the battery please?
Sent from my POCO F1 using Tapatalk
No, I'm sorry the wallpaper doesn't change according to time. It's just a wallpaper I selected from the MIUI gallery.
Theme is stock Poco theme with Nova Launcher Prime (Paid) and icon pack is Thin Icon Pack (Paid).

I've rooted my phone and installed custom ROM (Pixel Exp). I don't have access to MIUI theme (not that I even want to because it will not allow you to use third party theme. I wonder if there's a third party app that will allow me to change the notification bar especially the battery icon. I tried Xposed framework but it didn't work because it is not compatible with Android 8.0 above.

Redmi Note 9s MIUI 12.0.2 (Android 11) update

I will advise everyone not to update to
MIUI 12.0.2, android 11 cause I wish I didn't. The Gallery app is a downgrade. Plus the Work mode icon that I don't think anyone needed. There are other things I don't like and I generally consider this update to be a downgrade .
I've just received the update notification and havent read much about this update apart from your post.
Could you expand any further on the things you've found wrong? Has it gotten any better or worse for you since you've updated?
Yesterday I updated from 12.0.6.0. So far, (to me) the most annoying thing introduced in 12.0.2.0 is navigation gestures don't work with 3rd party launchers anymore (even Poco Launcher). I found a trick to use at least the "back" gesture but you come back to default launcher if you try to use "home" (swipe up from bottom border to center). So, to use all Navigation Gestures you are obligued to use system launcher.
After updating to this version , I can't use any wifi access point. And gallery app works bad. And themes are few

General Funtouch OS is frustrating.

Funtouch OS is literally the most limited, boring and bloated skins over android 11 ever in IQOO 7 Legend.
You can't even change WiFi, Bluetooth connection in drop-down quick settings section without going into settings by long-pressing.
There's no lockscreen media control appearing on my IQOO 7 Legend either.
Oh yeah, there's that green tint issue too.
Sounds getting cutoff with 4D vibration on in Asphalt 9.
It's just a cheap experience all together. I bought IQOO specially with the hope of experiencing the exquisite looking Origin OS. But what I got is some cheap Indian trash.

True. IQOO 3 had much better implementation. Also, no way to disable always on Charging display either!

Any way to disable always on display during charging? I hate using my OLED display unnecessarily during charging while there was only a simple setting on IQOO 3 to enable or disable it.
Seems like no one is discussing IQOO 7 Legend 5G anymore as this forum seems dead for months now. What's going on folks?

You cannot. I tried everything. Dark mode just makes the menus and settings dark, nothing else. We will have to wait for the next update. I am getting more frequent crashes and reboots too.

Question Any way to remove the Google search bar at the bottom of the screen?

Get/use a custom launcher like Nova launcher -So much easier to customize and so many more features.
ƒ
This is really bothering me. I dont want a 3rd party launcher, the launcher is fine except for that stupid search bar. Also I had many problems with 3rd party launchers in the past, and I'd rather keep the stock one which is tailored to the Pixel 6 series.

I thought perhaps Nova would take care of it. Thanks.
surprised someone finds 3rd party launchers like nova buggy
nova hits 10years old in december and its been pretty solid since forever
Likewise, I want to get rid of that screen wasting 'At a Glance' widget at the top of the screen!!
Don't fancy an alternative launcher - but may have to bite the bullet...

I've been using it for the last 6 years. It is feature-rich and less buggy and annoying than the four previous pixel launchers.

The beauty of Nova is, you can run both launchers, customize each as you like and switch between the two on-the-fly.
Infinite scrolling, custom bottom bar, multiple grid layouts...
When I get my P6P (today in theory) I will load all my apps from the Play store and restore my Nova backup. BOOM! my new phone will look and function exactly like my old phone... only bigger and cooler.

Thanks - I went with the Microsoft one - as it was the last one I had tried on my OnePlus over a year ago.
I will see how it goes - if not I will try Nova - I have the paid version also from 1-2 years ago.
Cheers

Switched to Nova overnight (insomnia!) - did not like the news choices of the Microsoft Launcher left swipe page - stuff from Hello Magazine, Daily Express and Daily Mail -???
Added the Nova Companion and now got the Google Left swipe and no wasted screen space on the main page.

I had never heard of the MS launcher, or maybe never really given it any mind. I looked at it yesterday after you mentioned it and it looked awful. I really hate the tiles and the forced news that I could care less about... too much work to make it what I wanted.

Then you're missing out IMHO.
There is nothing "wrong" with the Pixel launcher per se, as long as you don't care that Google, like Apple, dictates how you interact with your phone; but, if you want to customize your phone to your liking, a custom launcher is the only way to go.
Nova has been rock-stable for a long time and has a myriad of great features, most of which are free.

+1 for Nova.
Nova is my launcher of choice.
It has been for a decade or so now.
I've tried many others but always come back to it.
Sometimes I use Action Launcher or will try something new but again always come back to Nova, which I am actively using on my new Pixel 6 (received it yesterday) as I find the stock launcher extremely lacking in features - haven't suffered a single launcher related performance or stability issue for a very long time, including on my P6.
I don't like having an app drawer or icons / widgets cluttering up my home screen so I assign gestures to launch specific frequently used apps such as Chrome and YouTube and for Nova's integrated "app search", which also displays other recently used, newly installed or frequent apps in tabs separate from the search bar.
I have a single Google "At A Glance" widget
and use the Maxelus Galaxy Pack Live Wallpaper app for additional personalisation and because I'm a nerdy space cadet.
+2 Nova. Double tap to lock gesture is something I have implemented for years and the customization is endless.

Wait, what's Nova Companion? I just put the Google icon on my home screen so I could tap it to get to the Google interface, but a left-swipe would be way cleaner...
If you root your phone, you can get rid of the search bar in the Pixel Launcher, add rows/columns, and more.

Use adb to disable it.
I use a package disabler to do that.
For me it's called "com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox"

A little late to the party. Always used Lawnchair launcher on my Pixel3. Just got my P6 a few days ago and upgraded to Lawnchair again. Seems pretty stable on Android 12. I add Lawnfeed to enable Google feed left-swipe. Lawnchair is pretty similar to Pixel launcher except you can customize much more than stock (ie, disabling the bottom search bar).

Question Will there be ROMs for this device?

Just being curious ... will there be any ROMs for the Zenfone 9?
Lot's of small things really bother me and I would love to fix em by using a custom ROM. But I am not sure if I should keep the phone since my last one also had no chance of ROMs wich bothers me still.
The Zenfone 8 is supported by LineageOS, maybe the 9 will be too.
I sure hope so :/ I had zf8, now owned by my wife, and I hoped this would get similar support.
Chill out a little, its only been what? 2 months since the release. Porting a device takes time and effort and is done by volunteers. I expect there are going to be ROMs for this device, I think it is just a matter of time as IIRC Asus sends out devices to ROM maintainers for them to play around with and port out.
Chances are good as Asus shares Kernel sources and has a quite open policy. Also, software support by Asus is limited so chances are good someone jumpes in.
I agree, it takes some time before custom ROMs will come out. However I personally don't feel any special need for a custom ROM yet, the ASUS ROM is clean, fast, smooth, a bit customizable and with a good battery life
Which is true, but specially support of third party launchers is horrible on gesture navigation. When you go to your home screen, most of the time, the device thinks it needs to "stop" or "show" the launcher as an open app, which really bothers me. Never had this on any custom ROM so far.
Also, I would love to get more customizations. What we have is great and all, I really love the effort they put into it. But in some parts, I would love to see some custom juice here.
But that's just me being an UX designer, doing his thing
Well, with A13 not anymore. There is no more home gesture bug, it works smoothly on 3rd party launchers. I'm using Niagara and the experience is great finally!
Not sure what you mean on custom ROMs, as the bug was a A11 and A12 issue, not custom or OEM ROM issue. I had multiple ROMs on my previous OnePlus 7T Pro and the home gesture was the same on all ROMs on 3rd party launchers. It was due to how Android worked with the recent apps menu as it wasn't separate from the launcher, but was using the OEM launchers' recent apps, so if you had a 3rd party launcher, the original one was still running in the background, providing the recent apps menu. That is why the but was there. So no custom ROM could have fixed that.

This is awesome! My only main gripe with Zenfone 9 is that I can't make icons on home screen and app drawer bigger. Tried using Nova or Lawnchair but they were buggy. Now I can't wait for A13 beta to hit my device.

the interest of a custom ROM on a device like the zenfone 9 is obvious, it allows to increase the duration of the software support which Asus ends after only 2 years.

It requires some folks to volunteer to develop the custom ROMs, such as Lineage. It is unofficial if the person's efforts don't meet the long term requirements for Lineage and those who maintain the original.
I'm in the process of learning how to make an AOSP ROM myself, so if I succeed you'll see a thread from me about it!

Beta doesn't really feel like a beta, no major bugs discovered yet, nicely suitable as a daily driver. Here is the official changelog:
Please back up your data before upgrading to Android 13. If you want to downgrade your device’s software version to Android 12 by official software package, it will erase all data from your device’s internal storage
Upgraded system to Android 13
Revamped Mobile Manager, Contacts, Phone, Emergency Dialer, File Manager, Calculator, Clock, Gallery, Weather, Sound recorder, Settings, Data Transfer, Local backup, and so on
Adjusted Quick Settings panel, notification tray, and volume panel to Android 13 design
Added the notification permission feature. You can adjust the permission of each apps in the Apps & notifications Settings
System clipboard added "Auto delete" and editor features
Added the QR code scanner option for the lock screen shortcut feature, and the Control from locked device feature in the Security & lock screen setting
According to Digital Wellbeing setting, system color scheme can be set to automatically switched by the bedtime option
Adjusted the Vibration & haptic strength setting, Display and font size setting, and the width/length of navigation white bar when choosing gesture navigation
Changed to the Blocked numbers setting in Phone to stock behavior. You will not receive calls or texts from blocked numbers
Removed the Call duration setting
Added the Themed icons option in the Wallpaper & style setting. Support more color combinations
Added link quick share feature in ASUS Launcher
Some 3rd party apps are not compatible with Android 13 yet
Seems omnirom will be out for Zenfone 9, at least lots of activity at their git
