Camera FV 5 like intervelometer apps - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I had been using camera fv5 for taking long shutter shots after setting intervals(the time for exposure, the no. of photos or length of the video). I then merge all these to get videos. Recently it stopped working while I click interval button. Is there any app as efficient as camera fv 5 in taking multiple shots for a long period of time(after setting everything), I tried out many but I couldnt find none.
If anyone of have any idea regarding this please provide the name of the app capable of this sort of thing
Thanks in advance

[Q] Slow Camera

Hi all.
Recently I've noticed that it takes about 5 (!) seconds from the minute I press the camera button till the shot is actually being taken.
Anyone noticed it?
Someone knows a solution?
Are there any better alternatives to the stock camera app?
Thanks!
Has to do with the focus. It needs to focus to get a nice and sharp picture.

But also when I set the focus to macro or face detection it takes a lot of time
Ive had this issue also. The shutter time is horrible. I have an app called tasker which allows me to change the amount of time it takes for the camera to take the picture once i press the button.
Thanks, Will try that
Unfortunately, tasker is like 6bucks, but well worth it. It does WAY more than just fix the shutter lag. As far as i know, there isnt an app to fix just the lag on the cam. I havent found one anyways..
Take your phone outside when it's bright. Take a shot. The focus and capture should be near instantaneous. If not, then it's a hardware fault and you should have your phone replaced.
If it works, then the reason your cam was slow is due to insufficient lighting. You can't expect any camera to focus and capture instantly in low-light environments. Maxing out the ISO setting will help with the shutter speed but you'll end up with disgusting noisy pictures.
How does Tasker fix the shutter lag???
I use fast burst camera app. It can take 5 pics in quick burst or just single shots. Photos are taken the instant you hit the button

5 pics burst, the image size is disgustingly small from what I hear. But the single pic shot, is that full resolution?

Its not a bug, when you select HDR mode you can see the message saying something like "you need hold the camera still as it takes some time to capture image in HDR mode."

Questions about Z5 Compact Camera

I am considering this device for my next phone but had a couple of questions about the camera. It is important to me to be able to take pictures in quick succession (like taking multiple photographs of moving objects etc.).
1. On some of the other competing phones, I've noticed the ability to take a bunch of photos in quick succession, with no lag (the phone is ready to take the next picture immediately after taking a picture). I have read on a couple of sites that after a picture is taken, the Z5/Z5C takes a second or two to save it, so that the camera is not immediately available for the next photo. For those who have experience with this phone, what has been your experience?
2. Is the camera experience on the Compact similar to that on the Z5 or are there any differences?
Thank you!
You can't take pictures in quick succession like that sadly. It takes a while :/
Thanks. Is the lag true of all modes (superior auto and manual) and all resolutions (8 my and 23 mp)?
Also, I read in a different post that by turning something called the 'Photo Analyzer' off, the lag between photos can be eliminated. Has any Z5C owner tried this out, and does this do as described in that post?

You can use timeshift burst for Sony. It's an app in playstore.
It shoots 60 pics in 2 seconds, a bit lower quality but still good enough.
Edit: I made a quick video, so u can check it out while not having this device (yet?)

I think Photo Analyzer created lagging in older and slower xperia but I don't found any different yet on Z5c before or after disabled it. I never use stock album(even disabled it...lol) probably Photo Analyzer won't mess me.
23MP is slower than expected but 8MP is fast(still slightly slower than my S6 but close to it). You'll need to switch to Sport Mode to shoot moving objects, so only 8MP available to you because scene mode limited to 8MP.

Thanks for the video! In practice, do you go in and examine all 60 photos and delete the ones that you don't need?

Thanks for the reply! Two questions:
1. When you talk about 8MP being slightly slower than the S6 - in practice, let's say to photograph my dog, is this sufficiently fast enough? Is there a clear wait time after a photo is taken before I take the next one?
2. In Sport mode, is the lag negligible enough that I can shoot multiple back-to-back photos?
Thanks!

1. 8MP enough no clear wait time, 23MP a bit harder
2. sport mode only 8MP

In SuperAuto or Manual, you can take fast photos. sort of. If it has to do an autofocus, you have to wait. However if you take successive photos without the focus needing to change much, it is fairly fast. Like less half a second. However, if I tap as fast as I can, it can't keep up. Maybe 1 photo for every three taps.
Timeshift burst cant take photos very fast (8MP). However its a little annoying. You have to switch to that "mode" (basically start that app) if you want to do a timeshift photo. When you are in that mode, I think you are constantly taking photos. Once you hit the "shutter" it gives you -15 +15 photos or so. You can select which one you want, but when I goto the gallery, they're all still in there. It's not as convenient as on the iphone for example. On there, you just hold down the shutter and it takes photos for however long you hold it down. Then you choose what you want and the rest are deleted.

In older xperia like Z1/Z2, Timeshift burst only takes 1920x1080 photo resolution(2MP). Is that increase to 8MP now on Z5c?

Yes I use it for thunderstorm lightnings especially. You can save 1 (or more) of those 60 shots separately and afterwards delete the timeshift pictures.
You can also review the timeshift pictures via stock album app.
However, if u decide to use another album app, you'll be a bit annoyed by every timeshift picture shows 60 pics that's why I delete the timeshift pics after saving the best 1 or 2 separately.
BTW, just made another video of an timeshift shot of a thunderstorm lightning I did last year with my old Xperia Z (C6603) https://youtu.be/ROmoWD_c9hM

coming from a Lumia 930.. this z5c camera is.. terrible.
- Really slow shot burst (1 photo takes more than 1 second to save)
- When shooting at 23 mpx do yourself a favor and never, NEVER zoom it to 100%. Its only TERRIBLE.
- Low light and you can't use any flash? Don't try to take any photo at all. its just crap.
- Camera app "manual mode" is not manual at all. Changing the SCN (scene mode, night, portrait, food) is NOT manual by any mean
- Apps like Manual Camera (with all the real manual controls) just crash when you try to set iso, shutter time or manual focus (i read somewhere its caused by sony camera firmware, i don't know if its the real reason)
- When Camera is on the phone gets hot REALLY quickly, otherwise is always cold as ice.
- Timeshift video app is awesome
so.. yeah, decent camera, but i still cry when i see my old Lumia930's photos

I think the current build is beta and got very high expectation on 6.0, if Sony doesn't fix the camera I'll consider to sell it out. But other than the camera, the screen, waterproof(no usb flag), stereo speaker are all real upgraded when compared to older Z1c/Z3c.

There are a couple of guys on Z5 board keep repeating Z5 camera all around better than S6, G4/V10 or Lumia which made me laugh out though.

Camera very slow and laggy upon start-up

Often times the camera on my AT&T is very slow for like 20 to 30 seconds after I open it. It cannot even refresh the screen and show me what the camera is seeing...it is very jerky and refreshes once every few seconds at best.
Then after 20-30 seconds it seems to work fine with no lag.
It makes it almost impossible to capture a quick shot....I miss whatever I wanted to shoot until the camera calms down and starts behaving.
It does not happen every time...maybe 25% to 50%....have not found a pattern to it yet.
Anyone else seeing this?
I haven't seen this particular issue, but there are times when the focus takes way too long and it ends up taking me 1-2 extra seconds to take the shot, which by the time it captures the image, the moment is too late.

If it is this, that's disappointing. My S7 edge didn't have any issues with HDR.
Not seeing anything like the OP issue on start up. The FV-5 camera is my slowest to start up and takes a second or two. Next slowest would be the LG app in auto and the GCAM port with the LG being just slightly slower. Launching the LG app with the shortcut into manual mode is fastest to launch.
As for the delay while shooting, I see it if I have noise reduction, RAW or HDR enabled. The GCAM is even slower, way slower, at HDR though. I expected the HDR slowdown. The NR and RAW slowdowns were a little bit of a surprise.
By it's very nature, HDR is slow and finicky. It needs more than one frame to compare and blend, ideally at least three. As the shutter speed slows down, your total "black out" (a term I'm borrowing from DSLR shooting) will increase. Then you have the processing time. Google splits the processing out into two parts and it takes a while in total. The LG camera app seems to be doing it all in one go. So I'm not really all that bothered by the time it is taking.
The use of the term black out does remind me of a possible reason why activating Noise Reduction might increase time. There's a couple ways of going about it and one of the two ways used in DSLRs is to take a second black frame. The shutter closes after the actual exposure then a second exposure is taken with the shutter closed. A map, of sorts, is made of spots where there's signal noise and amp glow coming off of the sensor and the processing is applied accordingly. This increases black out time to at least 1.5x, if not 2x, depending on the application within a DSLR. Then there's always a little delay to process and write to memory. I'm not saying that this is 100% what is going on but it is a possibility. Looking at a shot I did last night, it's definitely worth it if it is.
Lastly, I found out early on that when this camera shoots RAW, it fires off two different frames (an unprocessed frame and a processed frame) instead of shooting just one and storing both a processed and unprocessed version of the same frame. Again, the slower the shutter speed, the longer this is going to take. Add in time to process the jpeg and to write the unprocessed RAW file to memory. I haven't tried shooting RAW on the GCAM port to see how it handle it. I know FV-5 is slow when shooting RAW too but never really looked closely to see how it's handling the shooting.

Long press on the camera app icon.
You will get a list of options with "handles" off to one side of their respective bubbles.
Find the one you want and drag it onto your home screen.
That new shortcut will now launch directly into whatever option you picked.

You're welcome! It helped me heaps when I found this out.

Camera quality degraded. Blur photos since few weeks.

I have started experiencing this issue with my galaxy s9+.
The camera no longer capture those impressive shots which it used to capture last month or until few weeks ago.
Now the photos are blur and focus is very bad.
Anyone facing similar issue.
Can anyone help me fix it?
My camera is capturing photos, the shots which it used take were very impressive and now the quality has become very bad all of sudden.
Please see the 1st photo in white t-shirt. It is few weeks ago.
The second photo in black t-shirt is captured now. It is very blur. No matter how many times I try or change location or light condition. Photos are very blur and focus is very bad.
FYI... I reset the camera settings and clean the partition cache several times.
Thanks for your help.

To see if it's the hardware or the software, I would suggest you try the same photo setup with a DIFFERENT camera application to see if the problem is in all the camera apps or in just the one you're using.
Each camera app will have its own set of settings which may help you debug, e.g., the GCam port has these settings screenshotted below which can help you debug such as "dirty lens warning" and resolution setup.
But the SIMPLEST camera app to test might be this FOSS camera app from Mark Harmon. If that doesn't work, nothing will.
There is also the free "camera2api" probe utility program which may provide hardware malfunction indicators.
