automatically changing between light and dark mode with day and night - Huawei Mate 20 Pro Questions & Answers

My phone used to be in perminant dark mode, which I liked, but recently it started to change between light and dark mode depending on day and night in my local timezone.
It affects mainly my Google widgets and apps (the actual settings screen stays in dark mode as that's how I've set the phone).
It seems to have started this when I first used the Google Auto / driving app which I've uninstalled now, bit I can't find any way to stop this... I want it to remain in dark mode at all times. I can't find anything in the phone or Google apps to change (anywhere with a theme or dark mode setting I've set to dark already).
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

You can do it with Tasker, but if you don't use that, you can try this app:

When i set the forest live wallpaper (having my location set to a certain city using the zip code). The wallpaper is always the same it doesnt change with day or night, sunny or rainy or what so ever. Is there any special settings i should do to make this live wallpaper "live" ?
PS: I have stock 4.1.83
Im having the same problem with .91 it wont even do the tap screen for temp and it didn't work even before the update someone please help us out?

Check if you have a data connection properly on, and locations services in android settings also turned on. Cheers.
Edit:
No, No. I'm pretty sure they just ruined the wallpaper and made it a permanent blue. Because I can tap it and it shows the proper temperature.
I'm seeing this occur as well.
I thought it was just a new feature of GB. It's blue, GB is blue... But yea, I guess mine thinks it's night time as well. But it's 2pm with no clouds at 96*.
I really liked the black/off-white of the forest so I'd like that fixed.
I've tried all of the data options in settings, tried setting it to airplane mode for a few minutes before turning data back on. Tried rebooting etc. I will do a factory reset when I get home, not looking forward to that.

I tried it again during the day, and I'm still getting the blue. There seems to be a few faint beams of light streaming through the trees, but it's barely noticeable.
I think the effect on the wallpaper is too low as well. And I loathe the white foreground under the app dock.
Same problem as OP. I've yet to see this wallpaper live. Help would be appreciated.

[Q] Screen in Camera app often very dark

Hi
my woman got the Galaxy S2 and has a problem with the camera app. The app shows a very dark screen like a maximum power saving mode. The rest of the apps are Ok. It can help then if I turn off the automatic brightness of the screen and the energy saving settings and turn them on again. But after a couple of days you have to the same again. So she is a bit p...ed about that. Does anybody of you have an idea how to get it stable bright?
BR MArtin
'my woman'...lol.
Anyway if you go into the camera app settings, scroll to the bottom and click 'reset'. Maybe your exposure settings or contrast etc were changed somehow. If that doesn't work...might be something up with the camera, or even some rubbish on the lens. You could just take it back and get a new one..
Never had problems with that, but all I can think of is that the illumination-sensor next to the front-face cam is dirty?
(less light coming tru makes everything darker?)
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
With the settings in the picture everything is ok. The picture taken with the camera are ok. Also the Sensor is ok as it is working fine everywhere else. Any other ideas?

And yes it's my wifes phone I have a HTC Sensation

Strange. Was it like that when she bought it? Just take it back and exchange it for a new one...

666fff .. Why take it back to the store immediately?
Anyways... So I you have the app (camera) open.. Do the bars (with the icons in it) also seem dark or do they look (normal)bright?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Yes everything is dark must be some problems with the energy settings or whatever
BR MArtin
Let me eliminate some causes:
- you've unchecked 'automatic screen brightness'?
(@settings)
- you've tried maximizing brightness manually?
- you've rebooted throughout the process? (giving the phone the chance to apply it's settings, sometimes all it needs is a reboot)
Let me know.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Basically I tried evrything you said with unchacking and Checking the automatically settings and also the additional Energysaving settings it gets back fine for some days but then it changes back to the dark setting unless i check and uncheck the boxes again. So it seems not to be a stable sollution. So I search now for a sollution that the camera app always runs with maximal display brightness
I've tried about everything then.
I ran some tests on my own SGS2 but I can't emulate the dark bars.
Not even by holding my finger over the light-sensor.
But I guess it's like this and I DO NOT know a fix for it: seems like the phone is learning that you don't use the camera much. So if you do. It will automatically go into power saving mode since the priority for battery-use is for system instead of cam (due to low-use)
So the only last thing I could think of, is that you've enabled automatic power saving?
Uncheck it and take Juice Defender as your 'battery saver' fixed alot of issues with brightness going up and down for me(very annoying) never goes up and down for me anymore!.
I hope this is of good help.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Ok will try that with Juice Defender.
BR MArtin
I have write me a task with Tasker witch put me max sensor light and auto rotation on when I open the cam. after closing it revers to the normal state! ,-)
I think I had the same problem as you.
In the camer app > Settings > Outdoor Visibility > ON
(it unfortunately resets everytime I exit the app)
Hope it helps
I tried with the Outdoor visibility but this seems to change the colors of the screen and not the brightness.
You are right, that does not work. I was at work when I tried this and it seemed to make the screen brighter, but outside in the sun light it does not make any difference. So I have the same problem as you lol
It's not his screen or image. It's the gray bars on the sides that he means.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
I tried the following thing and it's work :
1. Uncheck auto brightness
2. Make the brightness 100 %
3.Check again auto brightness.
On my phone when i made this the brightness on the camera is 100% and is not depending from auto brightness.
this totally worked! seems like within the camera app, there is no auto-adjusting of brightness and it always defaults to what the last brightness setting was set, regardless of auto-brightness status (checked/unchecked).

[Q] Brightness changes in specific apps

For some reason I see the brightness changes automatically in certain apps.
The auto brightness is off and set to full.
The brightness dims in the following screens:
1. Open original browser it dims , if entering web address it is back to full. Chrome does not encounter same problem
2. Original samsung mail app (not GMAIL) dims. If writing a new mail (reply/forward) it goes back up.
The brightness in the browser settings is set to full (not auto).
I tried to find an answer on the web but could not find. It drives me crazy!!!
Must say that I have the phone for 3 months and it started only a few days ago.
the only thing I can remember is that I was on WIFI and it started to update apps but how can I know what was changed and [email protected]#$ed my brightness control?
I assume that you're using a stock (or stock-based) ROM. Try to enter settings and deactivate the power saving mode if it's enabled. Then reboot - just to be sure - and look if the issue is gone.
Can't think of anything else at the moment...
Hope it helps
In stock browser disable auto brightness setting.

Weird Night Mode type issue...

So I got my T-Mobile S9+ on Tuesday. I got everything loaded up and restored and at 10pm, I noticed the color shift on the screen into a night mode type color scheme. Whites were turning a yellowish hue. I'm running Nova Launcher as my main launcher and checked all the settings in the phone itself, and nothing is enabled for Night mode. I ended up having to reboot the phone and it was back to normal.
It happened again the last two nights at 10pm EST. No idea why. I've tried everything short of rebuilding the phone (I know most will suggest this, but I'm trying to avoid it for the time factor). Rebooting seems to reset the clock on whatever is doing it and it goes back to normal.
My wife has the same phone and similar setup with Nova and hers doesn't do it. I've tried going back to the stock Samsung launcher when it is happening and nothing seems to fix it.
Anyone had this happen? I don't see any third party apps that would cause this that I have installed. the only app I can think of that even has a night mode is Nova, but that just effects menus and turns them black, not yellow.
*Edit* Sorry, I meant to put this in the Q&A Section.....

Blue Light filter is disabled and schedule is disabled as well. I've tried turning ON the blue light filter when the issue happens and it actually kicks in on top of the other issue and makes it even MORE yellow.
Seems unrelated to that.
Have you checked the sunset to sunrise toggle..?
Anyone having this blue light issue...blue light is enabled. When I turn on phone from sleep mode it takes like a second to switch to blue. Very weird

EDIT: I Fixed it finally!
I have no idea if there's an easier way to fix this, but here's what I figured out sifting through adb commands. If you run the command
Code:
adb shell 'settings list secure
you will get a list of many of the device's settings. The one we're modifying is called "Night Display" which is different from what everyone has been calling "Twilight Mode" in my google searches. So all we have to do is run the two following codes:
Code:
adb shell 'settings put secure night_display_activated 0'
Code:
adb shell 'settings put secure night_display_auto_mode 0'
This fixed my issue immediately and it persisted through my manual date and time adjustments just to verify and also two reboots. I know ADB commands aren't everyone's cup of tea but it is also a very powerful tool at unfu**ing what manufacturers have fu**ed. Hope it helps others as well!
(ORIGINAL, not needed, left for posterity)
This needs more attention. I know EXACTLY what this is. You came from a more recent Android device that uses Google's own "night mode" settings. I know, because I did too. I came from the Razer Phone and had night mode enabled on that on schedule. After my screen turned a real dank orange color at night, I started looking for the setting and discovered Samsung's "Blue Filter" setting and that enabling it made the orange color even more dank. So I immediately knew that the setting must have carried over when I logged into my google account and carried over my settings.
I have a workaround, but it is just that, it's not a permanent fix and I'm still trying to figure out how to fix it permanently. You need to install System UI tuner from the playstore. Follow the instructions to make the app work by granting permissions using ADB while connected to a PC. This is not root and will not void your warranty as such. From here, you can either just disable "Night Mode" under the miscellaneous tab or you can go to the playstore and install "Nougat / Oreo Quick Settings" which will allow you to add the toggle for "Night Mode" to your quick settings pull down bar. Unfortunately, you have to do this every night to get rid of the ugly orange color.
I've tried disabling the setting on my Razer and syncing everything in my google account from that phone, then restarting my galaxy and hoping that the settings would transfer over, but it hasn't worked. My fear is that I will have to factory reset the Galaxy, go back to Razer, toggle the night mode on and back off. Sync settings, then sign back into my galaxy and hopefully the settings will not come back this time. I just haven't because I don't want to set EVERYTHING back up again, ugh.
If anyone is aware of how to disable the "Night Mode" schedule feature in a different way without factory resetting the device, please let me know. Thanks!
There's an easy solution to this, if you hadn't switch off the night mode on your previous phone before transferring to the S9:

Wish I had waited a little bit longer and had done this. I ended up backing everything up to my SD Card using Smart Switch and then wiping and rebuilding the phone yesterday afternoon. However, I didn't choose to restore from Google and only from Smart Switch, so the night light setting didn't end up carrying over again.
Good to know I wasn't crazy and that my phone wasn't defective.
I had this problem too, and couldn't find an easy solution, until today.
The problem is that samsung will ask you out of the blue if you wanted to enable the "Nightmode" which is separate from "Blue Light Filter," and the two can overlap. Which is annoying. And you'll find yourself looking everywhere to find the setting to turn it off.
So, where is this setting hidden?
Google Playbook.
Launch google playbook, read something, anything. Click the screen and then the "Aa" icon, for changing brightness/fonts. Then there, click Setting again, and you'll find "Night Light" turned on and scheduled.
Simply turn it off and Voila!
No rooting, no launcher or nothing required.
I was all ready to get adb working and use the above workaround, and / or install nova launcher and fix this issue but THIS WORKED.
THANK YOU it has been bugging me for WEEKS.

You are amazing! It was the Google play books settings.
Thank you so much! It just started happening last week so I knew that it didn't come from my smart switch settings. Google play books was on night light settings from 10p-6a. I can see my phone again at night without my screen being yellow or without having to restart my phone. Thank you so much!!! I NEVER would've looked there.
Works like magic on my S7. Thanks a lot!
Perfect!
This fixed my problem, so thank you!

You have to go to Dev Setting and do "Force Dark Mode".
Stop FB and restart and its in dark mode.
My eyes are about to burn out from brigthness!
