Yes, you'll lose the Kernel.
As I said, just update as you normally would. Once it's done, make sure you're still rooted, and then flash the kernel.
But I'd advise not to update right now, as OnePlus has not released the latest Kernel sources yet. This makes pretty much every kernel not fully functional with the latest 10.0.5 or whatever.

Yes, every time you flash a Rom it installs its own stock kernel.

Unless it has xhausx's kernel installer it will not flash the stock Kernel on a s-on device. You may have to flash the kernel if specific updates break functionality such as WiFi

I don't think you'll be able to complete the OTA process if you're on a custom Rom. But either way it won't change your s off or unlocked status.
That's correct the update will not install with a custom recovery or on a custom rom. Why do you want to do this? When you are unlocked and S-off there is no need for an OTA.
You can manually flash the radio and Kernel then run a rom base on the update. Or run the stock rooted rom

Yeah you're good man. You're biggest concern is making the kernel match the rom.

Well I get that, the question is since it was possible to flash a GE ROM with s-on for 4.3 why not 4.4. Mainly because I and a few others out there can not seem to get s-off.

C6806 - 14.3.a.0.681 us ftf

Whats up guys. I have made a US C6806 FTF file from my most recent 4.4.2 update. It is flashed the same way all the other FTF's are.
This is a fully stock FTF, it is exactly the same as what you would otherwise download with your PC Companion System Update.
Here is the link!! https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5W8Ylg2cEfmMGlQbU9tSlQ4WWM/edit?usp=sharing
NOTE: This is not for the GPE Edition C6806, this is for the Sony Version only.

For a stock rom, it doesn't get much better than this. You can hide system icons, re sizable grid for the sony launcher, not to mention the themes. I will be making a blacked out them for this soon as the white settings bugs me.
Downloaded and installed no issues on my 6806. Thanks for the upload!

Awesome, I also noticed that the recovery that is linked in that rooting/recovery thread is old. I would suggest using the newest version as you could have issues when using an older one.

I'll wait for the Rooted version of the ROM. Can't wait.
I'm rooted with original 4.4.2 build.
Is there a list of changes associated with this build somewhere.
Is this build worthwhile flashing?
if ou flash but leave the dual kernel in place......will you preserve root?
Thanks

This is just a fully stock FTF for those who want to flash via flashtool rather than using sony pc companion. Main benefit of this is your bootloader does not have to be locked to install.
thanks, so confirming, this isnt an upgrade from my original gpe build then?

Technically yes, but the answer is no. The GPE is a variant of the C6806, but it's bootloaders are completely different trust me, i hard bricked my old phone testing that theory, lol.

Don't dirty flash this one over stock. This is deodexed so it will screw things up. Been busy with getting the badseed Rom ready but I should have time to do an odexed version this weekend.

Awesome. Once its odexed I can dirty flash then?
Else I was just gonna wait for viper to update to 1.58 and flash that or worse comes to worse flash stick recovery and take the OTA but I know some have been having issues with that and the OTA would only get 40% done and fail because of some xml file differences

If you have a stock rom backup you should be able to take the OTA no problem. You just can't have anything modified in the system partition, if you do it will fail.
I just restored my untouched/unmodified stock backup and flash stock recovery and got the OTA from system updates.

I reflashed the stock recovery for the OTA, but my rom backup already had some of the bloat taken out, and other apps updated. For instance, when I tried to run the OTA is said that Kindle was not as expected, since the update was integrated into the system rom. Would I then have to wait for the odexed version of your stock version, and then have the OTA included anyway?

Shoot xposed framework had to be flashed from recovery since i still have write protection on and it needed to be a system app.

The word "firmware" is rather generalized and can apply to any type of program code flashed to a device. Don't feel dumb, because the term "firmware" is sometimes used on XDA interchangeably with the word ROM.
But their are other times when folks talk about "the firmware" (such as in posts 5 and 6 above) to mean "the other modules that are included in the 1.58 OTA aside from the ROM". I haven't looked at this particular firmware zip, but they can typically contain: hboot, kernel, radio, WiFi, media and possibly other modules.
These other modules are typically not needed to run a particular ROM. But it might be argued, if they cared enough to change them, there might be something in there worth installing.
Personally, I'm rarely in the practice up updating the firmware packages, and have only rarely seen it make much difference.
