Speech Output for Google Translate Does Not Work on Samsung Devices (A50S and others) - Samsung Galaxy A50s Questions & Answers

Hello
I am at my wit's end on this and I have sent feedback to Google Translate(GT), posted on the GT community forum and contacted Samsung (who replied with a standard "contact the App Developer" email).
So, here goes one more try and it is a bizarre problem.
I am having a particular problem with the Google Translate app for one specific language on Samsung devices.
I have an A50S, but I have tried other Samsung devices.
The audio speech output for Khmer (Cambodian language) in Google Translate app does not work on any Samsung devices that I have tried.
When I enter a word and try to translate it (speaker) the message is "Speech Output isn't available for Khmer"
The Khmer speaker icon is grayed out. (The text translation does work btw)
Note: The speech output for all other languages using Google Translate works correctly
I have checked 3 different Samsung devices (an older J5 that I have and Google Translate previously worked on); an A70 and my new A50S.
Google Translate speech output does not work on any of these devices for Khmer audio only.
Speech output for all other languages does work.
I have checked a few other non-Samsung mobile devices and Google Translate does work for Khmer audio speech output.
And, Khmer speech output for Khmer works on the Windows desktop version of Google Translate.
So, obviously, there is speech output for Khmer
So, at this point I conclude that Google Translate speech output for only the Khmer language does not work on Samsung devices, but does work on non-Samsung devices and the Windows desktop version of Google Translate.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Google Translate app on my A50S from both the Google Play Store and the Samsung Galaxy Store.
I have tried different wi-fi networks.
I have scoured the settings on my mobile and cannot find anything obviously turned off or wrong.
This only concerns me because I do live in Cambodia and I need the Khmer speech output for translations.
And I know for a fact that there is, indeed, speech output for Khmer because it works on other devices (and it used to work on my older J5 but no longer works on that phone now).
Thank you for your time, attention and any help or brilliant ideas.
Andrew

Iris (siri) voice assistant on the touchpad

hey guys just wanted to let you know its possible to have the Iris voice assitant on the TP, iris is a port of the IOS "siri" here are some threads on it
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/enter-iris-so-long-siri-we-hardly-knew-ye/
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18550988#post18550988
the app itself is on the android market but you need Google Voice Search and TTS Libary on your touchpad for it to work, TTS library was already on the Touchpad but voice search was not
Found it in the market but it says that the touchpad is not supported. Did some googling and was able to find a .apk link and side loaded on the touch pad no problem
At first voice recognition was pretty awful but them i went into DSPManager in our app drawer and changed a couple of settings that made it much better
- effect strength to moderate
-made sure bass boost was disabled
-selected Vocal booster under select preset.
Will be honest it very limited to what it can do on the touch pad so far you can ask basic question about time, weather, what is... tell me about.... search this.... and it it wrong about half the time BUT its an app that is in alpha phase so
anyways here is a very quick vid i did search for pizza hut and blockbuster and how to say hello in french

More interested in native ubuntu than this. BTW, voice support has been in android for a while now. About a year since I tinkered with it, and not much growth. Guess that will change soon.
Sent from my very "non-stock" TP.

[Q] [DEV Q] Google Ears Offline

I am interested in developing an app that would enable offline tagging of music clips which would be cached and then identified by Google Ears, once the device joined a WiFi network. This is ideal for users like me who prefer purchasing unlocked phones and do not have a data plan because they prefer using WiFi that they have frequent access to.
I like Shazam, but I don't like redundancies. Having both Shazam and Google Ears on a device would be redundant. Plus, getting Google Ears to have the same functionality as Shazam poses a fun challenge
I am studying Computer Science (Sophomore) and have quite a bit of experience with Java. I just need a leg-up. Where do I begin? Recording the clip and recognizing WiFi connections would not be difficult at all, however I am uncertain as to how I would integrate it into Google Ears. Is this even feasible? Google Ears seems to use real-time processing from what I could discern from using it for a few minutes. This is contrasted to Shazam, where a fixed-length clip is always recorded and then uploaded and analyzed.
I realize I would be able to answer my own questions through research, and even learn new and valuable things in the process. However, I am in the middle of a very hectic semester what with class projects and a demanding new job, so I would appreciate any advice/help that you guys might be able to share with me, that would spare me some time.
Once I write the app, if I upload it to the marketplace I will NOT charge any money for it. This is just a learning experience for me. FYI, I will be using a Google Nexus S and a Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0 for development.
Big fat bump

What default apps are on the omate US and EU editions?

As I mentioned in another thread, I got my Omate from Amazon.jp. It is being sold by a Japanese company who imported it from a supply in their HK warehouse. It is the kickstarter edition.
Anyway, my watch came with some Chinese apps such as something called kiwi.
http://www.in189.com/thread-996575-1-1.html
There also seemed to be some Chinese text to speech stuff. The rest of the apps were a music player, video player, image player, recorder, google maps etc, google play store and some calendar type apps. I also have the Ostore.
I'm interested to learn if there is something missing that has been replaced in the US/EU versions.

Mi box remote control for pace

Seen a video showing a widget to control the mi tv box on YouTube does anyone know how it's possible to get this on the international version im forever loosing the remote control for it
I suppose you are referring to the Mi Home app.
Tutorial here, use google translate.
I haven't test it but it should work. There are other videos on youtube in English too.
I think he meant the MiTVBox controller, I know it works in the Chinese firmware (or custom ROMs based on it, like AmazeROM for Pace), but i am not sure if it works if installed manually in the INTL firmware. I know MiHome works only partially, because it relies on certain CN firmware files.
Yeah it was the mitvbox controller, ah that's a shame would have been a really handy feature since alot of the products are sold outside of China officially i hope it changes in the future
@siimot I have pulled the Mi TV Remote from my Pace running latest Chinese firmware (2.6.6.0), odexed and fixed it so it can be installed as a normal app (widget). I have installed on my Stratos but it shows a message about connecting to the phone via Bluetooth, but I think it's because my Stratos is paired with an iPhone and not Android (the same error happens when I run it on Pace while in airplane mode). Maybe it works for you. After installing, restart watch (or launcher) so you can see the icon in apps list or use the widget (if you have AmazMod/AmazeLauncher installed, or Springboard Settings for a temporary workaround).
If anyone tries installing the APK on a Pace (or Verge, it seems that it uses the mic for voice commands), please report if it works or not.
this one works.
Is There a remote that works independently? without phone?
Is there an apk so we can control other TVs except mi with amazfit ???????
