Slower 4G speeds on Poco F1 compared to other phone on Airtel network - Xiaomi Poco F1 Questions & Answers

Hi,
Poco F1 is running stock 11.0.5.0. I have tested my 4G speeds against my friend's phone which is an old low end Vivo Y69 and almost always vivo shows double speed on speedtest by ookla app.
We are on the same network which is Airtel running 4G. we should have gotten same speed. I checked even APN are identical.
Why does poco get slower speed? Any way to increase 4G speed.

Hey, I don't know what's going on with your phone but my Poco always is the fastest among all my friends. I get consistently 74 Mbps on Cellular (Jio LTE+) and around 40 Mbps (iDea LTE)
My phone is fully stock running 11.05
Try using another website for speed testing.
I use fast.com to test my speeds.

Oh man. Where do you live to get that speed on Jio? In Pune, i barely get 2mbps on Jio. Going to port out soon.

I live in Goa (West India).
Speeds always stay above 60Mbit on Jio and around 30Mbit on iDea. I'm guessing because of very low saturation of people where I live we get those speeds.

Absurdly slow on 3G signals??

Does anyone else on Tmo/Orange Uk have issues with 3G speeds? Mine are much slower than on the SGS and I can't figure out why.... I'm starting to worry if my phone has a fault ....
anyone had issues?
thanks!!
Dont think it's your phones fault. I get up to 4mbps everytime i take a test, and i got only 2mbps with my desire so, yeh this phone rocks.

just 3G speeds? or with 'H' aswell? download 'speedtest' from android market(free), if your download speed hovers around 356-357kbs, then I would say your download speed is capped.I'm with t-mobile, and mine was. I had to phone and get through to their techy dept and get them to enable 'Hspda'

http://blog.ruggedandmobile.com/2010/01/26/a-guide-on-the-difference-between-gprs-edge-3g-and-hsdpa/
G - this stands for GPRS, and is the slowest data transfer method (approx 32 - 48 Kbps)
3G - This is the next level available on T-Mobile, and is around 10 times faster (384 Kbps)
H - stands for High Speed Downlink Packet Access, and is essentially 3.5G. In theory, TM's network
can transfer at 7.2Mbps, but real world tests tend to average out at around 2 Mbps, still significantly
faster than 3G
There is also HSDPA+(H+) which is even faster.
Hope this helps explain

[Q] Speed Test - Data Speed Test Results... Weird?...

Hi All,
I have the Speedtest.net app on my SGSII and have run some speed tests and am getting some results that I find weird.
Yesterday I tested my network speed from my home (small basement suite apartment if that matters) and the results were as follows...
Network HSPA Download -0kbps, Upload -0kbps, Ping -1ms at 8:12PM
Network HSPA Download 247kbps, Upload 15kbps, Ping 1172ms at 8:14PM
Network WiFi Download 11401kbps, Upload 505kbps, Ping 47ms at 8:26PM
Today
Network UMTS Download 2269kbps, Upload 664kbps, Ping 185ms at 10:07am
I know the WiFi ones will be different but can anyone tell me why my HSPA ones from yesterday are SO LOW and if my UMTS (3G) one from today is atleast in the normal range?
I am confused...
Thanks,
One test isn't enough. Maybe the network/cell tower was saturated or had a problem, preventing full speed in your HSPA test.
The 0/0/-1 are Speedtest's bug.

Thank You for the info. Can you explain to me... Is UMTS 3G and HSPA is 3G+? Is that correct?
Today at work I ran a couple more tests and my UMTS Results were fluctuating as well... (I diddnt have any tests that came back HSPA today so far) Anywhere between 863kbps download to 1390kbps download and 301kbps upload to 748kbps upload... Are these weird as well? How can I get a true test of my 3G and HSPA speeds?
they are just slower speeds, the network seems to be under heavy capacity in your area. the only way to get a better idea is to test in the middle of the night, at 1 am, when the network is nearly empty and wide open.

Thank You as well for your response. Can you tell me... IF my device was folr some reason running in 2G or "Edge" mode it would show that as the "Network Type" in the test like it says UMTS or HSPA? Is that correct?
Yes if your phone switches to edge you will see an E at the top of the screen and the setting menu will say edge. You were definitely on HSDPA though, just a slow network, cause edge is limited to 236 kbps. Your speeds were higher than that except for the one that goofed completely.

Speed test results with edge data AT&T sim

Title says it all. What kind of speed test results is everyone getting and if any tweaks to build props to get there.I am almost always pegged out on signal on edge data which is suppose to be up to 220 KBS but best speed test result i have ever got was 60 KB up and 70 KB down which really sucks. Running evervolv ROM and latest radios and hboot

Edge is very hit and miss... Although 80k-140k should be the typical range, 384k is theoretically the best you can do with Edge on AT&T, Tmo is usually even slower. In my Rez with excellent signal (better than -70 dBm) the best could ever get was around 100kbps down, and in general the specific ROM was irrelevant.
Your EDGE results are actually pretty typical.

it not ony depends on carrier it does for your area too.....as for example just did a speedtest with a tmobile sim on edge and getting 2.2 mbs download and 1.8mb upload....still sucks but better than nothing for dtata on edge

Not to argue with your here @REV3NT3CH, but are you sure you mean Edge and not UMTS?
Regular Edge only has a maximum theoretical download rate of about 473.6Kbps using 8-slots of packet data encoded at MCS-9 (8PSK) minus network overhead. That is under optimal lab conditions and almost impossible in the real world. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enhanced_Data_Rates_for_GSM_Evolution
Those speeds you are getting are in the neighborhood of standard UMTS or even HSPA

Anyone in UK EE network using 4G+ speed?

The Mate 10 range supports super fast category 16 and 18 4G speed. I believe the only UK provider to get close to that is EE. They have 4GEEE and 4G+ plans.
You can enable 16/18 in the Advanced section of the Mobile menu in settings. See photo.
Has anyone enabled it and is on EE? What are the speeds like? Screenshots of speed tests?
I am on O2 and was wondering if I should switch to get the maximum benefit from this phone.
I thought EE get close Cat 9 but in london .
I have giffgaff unfortunately .I think it is good idea enabled anyway.
How is the signal with mate 10?
Signal is fine. However I have not noticed any difference in speed by enabling cat 16 as my network O2 does not support those speeds, so I turned it off again.

How is your 4G/LTE speed?

I have found very odd LTE speeds on my Poco F1, seems like it is somehow limited and I cannot figure out why.
I have done around 20 speed tests comparing results with OnePlus 5 = both same location during testing (tried around 4 locations in total), same time (one tested after the other), same network, exactly same plan on both simcards, tested both sim card slots in Poco F1 without any difference.
The results were sometimes 4x slower on Poco F1 compared OP5 and everytime slower that OP5 - usually HALF slower than OP5 on DL same as on UL. The highest DL speed I got in PocoF1 was around 60Mbits when OP5 scored 120Mbits. The worst score was around 25Mbits when OP5 was doing 120Mbits.
Can you please try it yourself with your friends and let me know the results?
I was on latest stable MIUI rom without any tweaks etc.
This depends on so many factors. First is the network coverage. You can't really compare one phone to another as both the phones could use different frequency (Bands). Maybe OP5 has better network coverage and in this case, you would have faster LTE, most likely. Also, our result could be relevant to your problem as we use different network providers and different network providers can have different LTE speeds.

I was asking if somebody can do similar test as I did = same location and network/same plan with Poco F1 and any other phone. To my knowledge Poco F1 global model has all LTE bands same as OnePlus 5, so there shouldnt be any issue.

Then your knowledge is wrong. Check the network bands on both.

this is irrelevant as all LTE bands used in my country are supported on both devices. It is 800Mhz, 1800Mhz and 2100Mhz. Also checked coverage area where I was doing tests and it shows only these 3 bands are used by my carrier. It seems to me like my Poco F1 is not able to use multiple bands in the same time.

I did not check which band it was connected to during tests on any of two phones I was testing. I was more focused on testing the speed under same conditions.

Use network signal guru from play store to check (and Change) the band that the phone is using. It needs the phone to be rooted. I've used it a couple of times on poco F1. But I can't compare it with any other phone as I don't have any other rooted 4G phones.
I'm also having similar issue on Poco on Jio 4g+ network. I'm comparing it with K8 Plus which is vanilla 4g phone. Speeds on K8 plus are usually higher by factor of 2-3 in same location and same speedtest server. However I don't get such high speeds in my area, poco will give 1-3 Mbps, while k8 plus will give 4-6mpbs. This is when poco is displaying 4g+ icon.
My personal opinion is 4g+ is mostly the culprit here, probably it has buggy implementation on poco as speeds on Idea 4g (not 4g+) is similar on both phones. I couldn't find anyway to disable CA with Jio on poco to confirm this theory though.

Disagree. I usually get 20-30mbps with Jio when I'm inside house with 4g+ and when I'm outside with 4g+ coverage, it goes from 50-80mbps. That's a huge difference for me when I never got such speeds with any of the other phones. For me, Poco is the fastest in providing speed as compared to my other phones.

I'm also having problems with Poco's 4g.
My operator provides me internet with 100/10 Mbits. My results with Speedtest goes around 4-7 Mbits.
My country has same 4G Mhz's that Poco uses. I'm having the 4G icon top of the screen, but still veeeery slow internet connection.
I've tried several roms and now I'm on Pixel Experience.

Might be region specific then. I'm in Pune, get ample 4g+ coverage but pathetic speeds. It has been huge disappointment for me, as one of the reasons for going for poco was 4g+ which other phones in similar price range lacked.
