Safe to update after bootloader unlock + magisk root? - Nokia 7.2 Questions & Answers

Build number: OOWW_1_200
Security patch level: September 5, 2019
Phone is offering 1,5GB update with December security patch. OEM unlocked, also critical. Phone rooted with Magisk by direct install.
Is it safe to download and install offered update? Will it cause bootloop, maybe even hard brick? Any thoughts?

Uninstalled Magisk and then installed update. Everything seems to be fine. Magisk missing an option to direct install. It only offers to download zip or select and patch.

I think best option is to flash TWRP, download Magisk zip and flash it with TWRP.
TWRP would anyway give extra options for future.

convert SuperSU to Magisk

Hi,
I'm using a T820 with Stock Android v8.0.0, TWRP installed and SuperSU. Everything is working fine, but I can't use Samsung's security updates ("Failed - unauthorized changes") and thus am rather behind in "Android Security Level" (April 1st, 2018).
I'd like to change from SuperSU to Magisk, but when I try to install via Magisk Manager it says "boot image patched by unsupported program" and aborts installation. This "unsupported program" could either be SuperSU or the "no-verity-no-encrypt_ashyx.zip" I used in rooting.
Is there a way to change to Magisk without reformatting Data? Can I just reflash a stock boot image and then install Magisk, or would that mess with this encryption thingy? Would I need to flash anything else on the stock image, like the "Tabs3_oreo_forced+encryption_disabler.zip" I read about? What would be the correct sequence?
Regards

Need help updating the October patch update

So the October patch just came out, but my phone's rooted (magisk, no twrp), so I can't install the update. If anyone could provide a guide on how to update and re-root the phone again, that would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

No need to unroot. If u can get the boot.img u can use magisk to root it and instal.
i use magisk tutorial for updating. and there is a magisk modul for reinstalling twrp. you have to use it before installing magisk on inactive slot.
i suggest you to wait a few days before updating. i update to October and install magisk and twrp but wifi and hotspot are broken. and twrp won't work correctly. not shore if it's because twrp or October ota
It was my fault that break wifi and hotspot. magisk tutorial should do the work. just backup before doing anything

I decided to completely reset my phone and it's now better than ever
From twrp thread
If you want you can also update a stock rom from phone settings with local upgrade:
- Update the Rom WITHOUT REBOOT;
- Open Magisk Manager;
- Menu/modules/+ button/select the twrp installer.zip and flash it;
- Always in Magisk Manager, click on Install/Install/Direct Install;
- Again in Magisk Manager, click on Install/Install/Inactive Slot;
- Reboot.

Samsung Galaxy A20 October Security Update

Hi Guys
I've rooted and installed TWRP On my A20(A205F) successfully.
Yesterday I decided to check for updates and I found that the A20 now has an October Security Update.
[I'd also like to state that I haven't been able to patch my boot.img in Magisk, It failed to download the Magisk v20 Zip all the time, so I got it from somewhere else and tried to get it to work. Eventually it worked and managed to download the zip and patch my boot.img for october update but once I tried it again it keeps failing to download the installer zip.]
So I downloaded the whole firmware and did a full on backup of all my stuff then I proceeded to flash via odin the updated firmware. I've managed to get Root via Magisk working 100% but then I went on to flash TWRP and came out with a bootloop, actually I've tried multiple ways to install TWRP and Magisk without a successful outcome I've now come back to the June Update so I got Magisk and TWRP back.
Some links on the Github page of Magisk isn't working??? Whats up with that? I couldn't download anything from there.
So is there anyway someone could help with getting the update and having TWRP and Magisk working again?

Root oneplus 7t Pro

I wanted to update my one plus 7t pro but I don't know why even if I used the incremental update I don't have anymore the root. Now I have the following build: Oxygen OS 10.0.8.HD01BA (Europe).
The problem is that I didn't find any patched bootable .img for the version 10.0.8HD01BA.
Is it possible to root my phone with version 10.0.8 or I need to go back to version 10.0.7, root it and then again made the incremental update?.
Thank you in advance.

You don't need to revert 10.0.7 to root, you can use this guide to root 10.0.8 -> https://forum.xda-developers.com/7t-pro/how-to/10-0-3-patched-boot-image-oneplus-7t-pro-t3986351

Also, after downloading the update, don't press reboot.
Go to magisk manager and select install and pick install to inactive slot wait till it's done then reboot.
Always remember to disable modules that could make your device boot loop and restart your device before doing the update process
If you do it this way you don't have to keep making or asking others for patched images and have to use your computer

- then i installed latest magisk application 7.5.1 from github.
-patched my boot image and flashed it
-i got safetynet check failed.
-i then removed magisk by installing the stock boot image again.
-then i downloaded an older version of magisk which is 7.4.0.
-flashed the same patched boot image again.
WALLAH! i passed safteynet and magisk hide works with bank and google pay apps agian ! <3

Question OTA Update for rooted Nord2 5G without TWRP ?

Hello,
Is it possibly to OTA Update a rooted Nord2 5G (DN2103) without TWRP without data loss ?
I rooted it with patched magisk boot image with DN2103_11_A.14 found here on XDA.
Tried OTA update for SN2103_11.A.16 from the phone menu, but got error from updater:
"Could not update: Verification problem" (translated by me, the original english message may be different)
I reverted to stock boot.img but the update fail again with the same error.
Now I am back with the magisk's patched one with root.
Which scenarios I have to update to the A.19 without lost data and without need to install TWRP.
Thanks.

Perhaps I am a bit late to respond, but for future users running into this issue (including myself lol), you first need to install TWRP, otherwise the following instruction won't work. Since you're rooted, you can install TWRP as well (and its really not hard to do)
for DN2103 you have to download the OTA update zip, boot image and vbmeta, see:
[STOCK][DN2103][EU] Incremental update packages & Boot images
Hi All, Below you can find a couple of incremental update packages that you can use for updating from various versions of your device. Incremental update packages These can be installed using TWRP by following this tutorial...
forum.xda-developers.com
After you downloaded the correct files, do the following:
boot into TWRP and flash the boot image corresponding to your update.
(optional) by flashing the boot image, you lose root. to prevent that, you can patch the boot image first with the magisk app. you can always do this step after updating, in case you forget it.
!!! some updates do not have boot image.
flash the <ota_update>.zip
flash the vb.meta image
reboot phone normally
Also, before doing all this, i recommend (temporarily) turning lockscreen security off, in case something goes wrong, you can always recover data then since the phone won't be encrypted.
Thank you, for the answer.
This is the correct way to do update.
Best,
