Android official OTA packages from other sites safe or not. - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi , I had a motorola g5s plus with android 7.1 for a long time , just before the official release of android 8.1 for the device in my country i downloaded a rom from a youtube link for my device it was titled as official rom .( it said it was a rom from country which the offical updates were released few days before in my country).
Instructions to install the rom were fairly simple , i just had to grant the updater the permission to access storage in my phone then paste the rom into the internal storage of my device and then normally go check in the updater of my device and it showed updates available .
so i did everything, updates were installed normally and never actually experienced any bug whatsoever . Also i regularly got security updates from lenovo/motorola through OTA.
FYI - i never rooted or unlocked my device's bootloader it was completely stock device .
My question is are there chances that the rom i installed from an unknown source might be hampered? or cracked in someway it is completely safe to use my phone?
this may be a silly question , i am sorry if it is but i really know very less about these things , please guide me. thank you in advanced.

@Dante18 Give the Link to the YouTube video.

@lucki1000
i can't actually find that video on youtube . i was just wondering if anyone ever tried to hamper or crack official OTA package would it still Install on a completely Stock device and still get regular updates as in form of OTA from Lenovo/Motorola?

I think this are spam packages, i would not try this packages, i can only recommend roms from XDA or the vendor.

Question on Custom Rom for RN3

I have been thinking of this question before but forgot to ask here. I am wonder what is the reason none of Custom rom for RN3 equip with OTA update function. Miui got the OTA update and can be update with as little as 12mb update.
Custom rom on the other hand need to download whole big ass rom everytime there is an update.
If there is a small update file size then we could save so much data and space to upload and download the update.
May i know the small update files never exist in RN3 Custom scene while Miui xioami can have as small file size update for its rom.
With Lineage OS, you can use an app to get 'Delta' (~OTA file) updates.

Don't use it myself as I prefer to get full image, then if something goes wrong, I have the full image to flash.
Edit: - @shanemod noticed from your posts that your using LOS, so above app may suit you?

Reason being why OEMs use OTA to push update is, they don't want users to download full update from the website nd flash it... It will lead to many issues... Many users create different issue and its not easy for them to give a fruitful experience to users... When you talk about Custom roms, user must have basic knowledge of what he/she is doing and before you flash custom rom, you make lot of research in reading... So eventually its easy for you to flash a update via recovery and forum developers need not to work on OTA related issues and so soon... Plus all users are not using the stock kernel.. So it has dependencies too... To push incremental update via ota is not an easy task... Dev neeed to spend critical time on writing scripts and there are majorly time constraints also... So they prefer the easy way... Hope it resolved you query why no one is providing OTA on custom roms...

Realme XT EU os bugged due to upgrade, how can i fix this?

Hello
i updated my realme xt to Realme UI using the file found on the official website but my phone started acting up soon after ( brightness control won't work ) . So i did a reset and even more things started to not work like google play services etc etc , the phone is pretty much unusable. The phone still works and boots and evrything , just extremely buggy and can't login with google and all its services , also i get popus about that pretty much constantly.
I came to find out the update was only targeted to the indian version of the phone . I didn't even knew there was a different version.
I tried to revert to the realme xt eu rom but the phone won't let me downgrade it , i'm using only the stock recovery and i didn't unlock the bootloader , what do i do now? is there any way i can fix it by myself?
@stefano.parizzi1 How did you try to downgrade and which file/version did you exactly use for your downgrade attempt?

i tried using the stock recovery using the official RMX1921EUEX_11_A.06 ozip rom but , fair enough , the recovery displayed a message error i couldn't flash a previous version
OK, that's exactly what I would have done. Sorry, I have no idea, I hope someone else or realme-support can help!
(and please keep us updated, it seems to be an important issue)
well it's important because i think others will have the same problem , realme ui has been advertised globally and is present on the international site for download without a clear indication is for just the indian model :/
also i sent a mail today at realmesupport in europe and got no response so far
it is a shame that they dont have any security in place that is preventing users from accidentally updating the wrong firmware. Hopefully you can just flash the EU realme ui rom once it is out and that fixes it.
UPDATE : Realme just pulled the update on hold due to bricked devices....

Even more: Why isn't it possible to deliver a single update which installs on all XT devices worldwide? 95% of the code must be identical and the installer should be able to check, which of the last 5% are needed to run on the different versions.

I already update to android 10. So far its ok even it says indian region but everything seems fine except my fingerprint scanner. Ive always experienced that my phone wont show the finger scanner while the screen is off. You need to double (if enabled) to unlock or instead used the power button which is too much of a hassle. Can anyone have the same experience?
Realme xt Update
So the download page ist active again but im curious cause its the same file and i couldnt update it last time over the recoverymode ,it tells me the installation fails and now i dont know if i shuld risk to try it again with the "new" version -
Anyone in EUROPE used it ? or leme say used the update with the global version of the Realme Xt (8GB)
I Apreciate any help waiting like 1,5 week for this damn update ...
Ps. and no it Dont work over file manager its just decrompress and no i cant downgrade the file manager i dont know which kind of information they got

well, i'll probably try it since it looks like realme support doesn't really exists ( i sent an email on friday and got no response about warranty/ repair )
looks like the name of the new update is : RMX1921EX_11_OTA_1010_all_yuEH87qmmZhw.ozip i wonder if the "all" indicates all models support

Well the thing is its the same file like last 3 days, i got the update 3 day earlier and then i try it and the installation failed in recovery mode i dont know, where are you from and it would be nice if you tell me if it work
It's still exactly the same file from the beginning, they just added a warning in the "update log"
XT in India don't have NFC, so their update probably won't work (well) with Russian/EU models which have NFC.
If it were OK for the Russian/EU model, they certainly would have also posted it there

Guys,
The update that came out recently has little bugs in it and you will end up bricking in some case .
I was told post flashing from recovery i should have tried reboot instead of pressing ok to the update, which im not sure what difference does it make
I took the phone to service center and they used my device to test Android 10 to fix main bugs with discussion with Main branch for software development for 2 days and finally my phone works flawless on realme UI \Android 10
Indeed its really good than the old color OS and liking it closer to stock andoird

it fixed the message errors for sure ! Thanks!
But unfortunately the rom remains heavily bugged due to hardware differences and several things crash ( update app , bootloader unlock official apk , chrome sometimes ) and the device remain not google certified so i can't use netflix via play store nor bank apps
and on that note the Realme support in europe is TOTALLY non existant i sent an assistance ticket 10 days ago and still haven't heard back from them yet ( not even a " sorry we won't fix that " )
i'll proceed for a legal compliant if i won't hear from back within the current week
Can you unlock the bootloader after update to realme ui ? So you can flash twrp
I have these problems my fingerprint is bothering and the battery goes down very fast

Question about the legitimacy of a ROM

I installed the 11.0.5 MIUI update via a rom because I could get to update from inside the smartphone, and I downloaded the rom from "mirom.ezbox.idv.tw" cause it was the first option (a little reckless I know) and I want to know if anybody knows if I could be compromised or it's just like xiaomifirmwareupdater and is someone just collecting the firmware and I'm just paranoid
And if I could run a command or something to check in case that you're also doubtful

Why go on these fishy sites if the official site is available. Download the latest version from here and clean flash.

Is this safe to install recovery rom from third party website

Hi there , i am a newbie here . I am a redmi note 7s user . Two days ago we had a miui update (11.2.0) ,due some problem i have can't made the update.
Now my updater apps showing no update available and i came to know that the update was a random basis and it will appear again . But i want to make the update right now .
So I want to be sure that there will no problem from downloading the recovery rom from third party website. (Like miui can't varify the device / can't reach website )
@asiftanzeem
IMHO it's always risky to download from 3rd-party sites.

When your phone have another codename, then look for the right one on this site. It's trustworthy
maybe you can change the region ,, or you can download ROM directly from the official website and you update the OTA manually.

Rolling back my LG V30 to Android 8 (Oreo)

I have an app that does not work after Android 8 that I need and there is no replacement in 9 or above. I managed to avoid updating my v30 to v9 and later for a year or so. It accidentally allowed the update to 9 this past weekend while I was camping. All I want to do is roll back to stock v8 or 8.1 (Oreo).
I have enough tech knowledge to follow directions and understand rooting but am having a really hard time finding the "right directions." As I was reading some of them, I found caveats like, "Use X unless you have the delta update and then use Y but not if you want to run Z. For Z, you have to follow this other thread." I also know that using the wrong settings or data file could brick the phone.
So, I'm hoping someone can help me narrow down what sets of directions I need to follow.
Here's what I have right now:
LG V30 (VS996) On Verizon Network
Developer Options Enabled
Android V9
Security Patch Level August 1, 2019
Kernel Version: 4.4.153
Build #: PKQ1.190414.001
Software version: VS99630c
Again, all I want to do is roll back to stock v8 or 8.1 (Oreo).
Bonus would also be a way to stop asking me every day to update or delay a day and just wait until I manually do it.
Thx in advance!!
Download the right firmware file for your device from here -
Models - LG-Firmwares.com
Free archive of LG firmwares. Comparison of features and reviews of all mobile devices. Quick download of updates for your device.
lg-firmwares.com
Then download the flash tool from here -
LG Flash Tool Free Download - Official Download Links
LGUP tool is the latest version of LG Flash Tool that allows users to flash stock firmware on LG smartphones and tablet devices. Download LG UP tool 2018 from the official download links.
lgflash.com
Follow the instructions on both the pages. I think you can take it from here.
Note that implied with this process is that you cannot downgrade your firmware without wiping the phone... there's no way to "patch" back to the old version. So, be sure to take backups FIRST.
If you're rooted on the old firmware, you can then disable/freeze/delete the update APKs so that the update warning goes away. But this requires root, so be aware of that. If you don't haven't rooted already, then this is a process of its own, and will require you to go back to Nougat in order to perform that, so you may want to do that before installing the final version of the ROM you want. You can find out how to do this rooting process on the WTF thread, post #193, located here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...ar-instructions.3790500/page-10#post-76584629
If you don't want to root, that's fine, but then you must endure the update warning process... unless you can find another way to disable the update APKs.
Thank you both. I expected to wipe the phone so that's not an issue. I will first install Nougat, root and then update to Oreo.
There are about 14 Oreo ROMs on that site. Do I just pick the latest one or do I have to pick the earliest one and update that?
Pick the latest one.
