[Guide] [Recovery] [NO TWRP] [HD61CB] Recover from Magisk Bootloops on T-Mo McLaren - OnePlus 7T Pro 5G McLaren Guides, News etc.

Recover your bootlooping 7T Pro McLaren 5G after installing a bad Magisk module (e.g. stock EdXposed):
1) Reboot to fastboot
2) Download the image that matches your build (fastboot boot DOES NOT WORK)
2) fastboot flash recovery_a my_nosec_image.img
3) fastboot flash recovery_a my_nosec_image.img
4) Reboot your device to recovery
5) adb kill-server
6) adb shell. You should have root now with access to decrypted data and can remove modules from /data/adb/modules.

I wonder why are you flashing recovery twice.
Code:
fastboot flash recovery modded-recovery.img
is quite enough. Modded recovery you can find here.
Code:
adb kill-server
is also excessive, adb shell is quite enough.
Tested and confirmed on my 1+ 7t pro mclaren.

doesnt work - data is empty on OOS 10.0.39

(GUIDE) Unbrick (secure boot error) without restoring to stock

I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR PEOPLE NOT FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS OR HARD BRICKED PHONES.
To follow this guide you must at least be able to access TWRP or Download mode or Fastboot at least.
(This guide applies too if your phone boots but with the Secure Boot error 1003 <- this error doesnt let your phone charge powered off)
1. Download Unbrick.zip
2. Download LG root zvb method zip from HERE (thanks to AUTOPRIME & Team CODEFIRE)
2a. Extract unbrick zip and root zvb zip in the same location
2b. right click "open command prompt" inside the folder of extraction.
3. Have LG drivers installed (you can find them in the forums)
4. If you have access to download mode and no TWRP installed you must first nuke LAF
4a. use the command prompt window we opened on 2b. and nuke laf using dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/laf
4b. type LEAVE (this will leave your G3 on fastboot)
5. On the same window we must flash TWRP. using fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
5a. then fastboot flash boot boot.img, fastboot flash aboot aboot.img, fastboot flash laf laf.img
5b. fastboot reboot should take you to twrp where you can flash any rom (I suggest FULMICS)
5c. If the rom you flash fails to boot or you keep getting secure boot error keep on with this guide.
6. Enter twrp and copy the boot, aboot and laf imgs to your internal storage
6a. open a cmd prompt and enter adb shell
6b. use dd command as follows:
dd if=/sdcard/aboot.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/aboot
dd if=/sdcard/boot.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/boot
dd if=/sdcard/laf.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/laf
7. Reboot to recovery and flash any custom rom this should fix your Secure Boot error Sprint LG G3. :highfive:
Thanks to all devs who worked on root and roms for this amazing phone!
Thanks! I had a working phone but still got the boot error. I copied the unbrick.zip to my phone and used the terminal in TWRP to run the dd commands in step 6b and it fixed the error! Reinstalled a fresh fulmics and everything is working fine.

[GUIDE][GRUS]How to flash TWRP and GSI ROMs on MI 9 SE

# I assume you are confident with ADB and Fastboot commands and you know what you are doing. #
# If you don't, search on Google before messing with your device. #
# I am not responsible for...you know what I mean. On the other hand, please feel free to point out any error in this guide. #
# Lots of useful information can be found on Telegram Group for Mi 9 SE #
# If you already unlocked your bootloader and flashed TWRP, go directly to part 2 of this guide #
PART 1 - UNLOCK DEVICE AND FLASH TWRP
# Before starting, be sure that you can unlock your bootloader and you have these files: #
- Mi Unlock tool (http://en.miui.com/unlock/)
- Minimal ADB & Fastboot 1.4.3 (https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790)
- TWRP recovery for your device (please check the development section).
Install ADB and Fastboot drivers on your PC, if you don't have them already.
- enable developer options on device, allow OEM unlock and ADB debug.
- install Minimal ADB & Fastboot tool and run a command window. PLEASE DON'T USE WINDOWS 10 POWER SHELL. Double click on "cmdhere.dll" in root folder instead.
- move twrp image in the same folder where Minimal ADB & Fastboot is installed.
- for your convenience, rename twrp file as "twrp" only.
- connect your device to your PC USB port, pair it with PC then reboot it to bootloader (power + volume down combo).
Unlock bootloader using Mi Unlock tool (full unlocking guide at https://c.mi.com/thread-1635834-1-1.html)
Unlocking bootloader will erase all of your data, including storage.
Once you unlocked:
- reboot and setup device
- enable developer options again
- double check bootloader status and allow ADB debug
- connect to USB port and pair device with PC for ADB debug bridge then type in command window:
Code:
adb devices
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
once in bootloader screen code:
Code:
fastboot devices
Code:
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
- don't give fastboot command "fastboot boot recovery twrp" or "fastboot reboot recovery twrp". Just press and hold power+volume up for about 10 seconds to reboot to recovery.
- swipe to allow twrp modifications.
- I would suggest to NOT format data to get rid of encryption unless you actually need it. Encryption does not slow down your device or harm your battery life.
- I would also suggest to NOT wipe system and reboot to recovery because it could lead to a fastboot bootloop.
PART 2 - HOW TO FLASH A GSI ROM
# IMPORTANT #
When flashing a GSI ROM, it is recommended to use a Stable firmware as base.
If device is running different builds, flash latest Global or China Stable before starting using MiFlash tool.
Beware that device could have the anti-rollback enabled, so be careful when flashing another firmware.
Mi 9 SE is a system-as-root device, so you must flash A/B type GSI ROMs.
You will need these files:
- GSI A/B ROM (FlokoROM at https://treble.andro.plus/ or choose one at https://forum.xda-developers.com/project-treble/trebleenabled-device-development)
- vbmeta.img (https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=818070582850505317)
- gapps for Google services (https://opengapps.org/) - select ARM64 - 9.0 - I would suggest nano or pico package.
- magisk for root and modules (https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445)
- MiFlash flashable STABLE stock firmware (http://en.miui.com/download or https://mirom.ezbox.idv.tw/en/phone/grus/)
- MiFlash tool (https://www.xiaomiflash.com/)
If you are already running a Stable firmware start from here, if you don't, flash a Stable firmware.
- move GSI and vbmeta images in the same folder where Minimal ADB & Fastboot is installed.
- for your convenience, rename GSI file as "system" only.
- reboot device to bootloader, ensure you are connected with your PC properly
- to double check it, run a command window and type:
Code:
fastboot devices
once you get the device recognized type:
Code:
fastboot --disable-verity --disable-verification flash vbmeta vbmeta.img
this command will disable dm-verity and AVB on device. PLEASE DON'T USE WINDOWS 10 POWER SHELL to disable vbmeta or you will get an error feedback. Double click on "cmdhere.dll" in root folder instead.
then:
Code:
fastboot flash system system.img
this command will flash system.img
Code:
fastboot -w
this command will wipe data on device
Reboot your device in recovery using button combo and resize system partition to install Gapps.
From TWRP Wipe menu > advanced wipe > system > repair or change file system > resize system > swipe to resize
- move magisk and gapps from PC to device
- go to mount menu and tick mount system
- go back to install menu and flash gapps
- once you flashed gapps unmount system
- go to install and flash magisk
- go to wipe menu and swipe for factory reset
- reboot
once rebooted, complete the device setup.
be aware that some GSI could bootloop or not boot at all even if you followed the guide properly.
in case rely on GSI devs for assistance or fixes.
Of course you can flash a GSI ROM using TWRP.
The only fastboot command you need to perform is to disable dm-verity and AVB.
If you already disabled it while flashing TWRP for the first time, you can follow these steps to flash a GSI using TWRP:
- Tap on advanced Wipe menu and wipe cache, dalvik, data and system
- Tap on Install > Install Image > select image and flash it to system
- Install Gapps with the same process shown above.
- Swipe for factory reset and reboot.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If updating GSIs builds from the same branch (e.g. Floko 060219 to Floko 060919) you are not required to wipe data. You can update flashing system.img on TWRP and Gapps time by time.
If you are moving from unofficial builds to official, or if you are moving between branches (e.g. Floko to Havoc), you need to wipe data as well.
@pengus77 provided for a very useful Magisk Module that will fix adaptive brightness, battery stats and in-call BT. You will find it here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=79762257&postcount=242
If you flashed a GSI ROM, you are basically using a system.img flashed on top of your stock firmware so, unless you performed modifications to vendor or boot partition, you can revert to stock using fastboot or TWRP.
You need to extract system.img (and boot and vendor, if needed) from the stock firmware.
You will need the vbmeta file as well to re-enable AVB and dm-verity otherwise the device will reboot in fastboot mode only.
Beware: you must flash EXACTLY the same system.img of the firmware you were running before flashing a GSI
Once you have both files, you can follow these steps to go back to stock using fastboot:
- place the files on Minimal ADB & Fastboot root folder
- reboot bootloader
- start a command window from Minimal ADB and type: fastboot devices
once your device has been recognized type the following commands:
- fastboot -w
- fastboot flash system system.img
- (optional) fastboot flash vendor vendor.img
- (optional) fastboot flash boot boot.img
- fastboot flash vbmeta vbmeta.img
- fastboot reboot
You can also revert to stock using TWRP, by the way you will still need fastboot to flash vbmeta partition.
These are the steps to follow if you are using TWRP:
- place system.img on your device and vbmeta.img in Minimal ADB & Fastboot root folder.
- reboot to twrp and wipe dalvik, cache and data
- flash system.img to system partition
- (optional) flash vendor.img to vendor partition
- (optional) flash boot.img to boot partition
- reboot to bootloader
Start a command window in Minimal ADB & Fastboot, then type:
- fastboot devices
- fastboot flash vbmeta vbmeta.img
- fastboot reboot
Thansk for your work.

I hope it is helpful
Backup worked for me on the TWRP I mentioned above.
If you want revert to stock you can flash again stock firmware using MiTool (fastboot ROM) or twrp (Recovery ROM).
Good thread! Might be confusing if there's no guide to install TWRP and GSI ?
Great guide. It will help a lot of people to flash and test roms. And us by extension to find the best rom for our device !
Today I had some time and I tried to install the latest Havoc Gsi, unfortunately the result was negative, I ran the guide both from xda and from here, my basic rom was 10.2.3.0, arrived at the command fastboot -w performs the various wipes, but then it does not allow me to go into recovery, it always and only goes in fastboot, and the only way to make the smartphone work is to use miflash and put the official version back.

Try to flash vbmeta.
For me is not necesary.
Try like this from twrp:
- Wipe cache, dalvik cache, system, data
- Flash latest weekly eu firmware as base xiaomi.eu_multi_MI9SE_9.6.5_v10-9.zip
- Than flash havoc as system
Optional: flash magisk and custom kernel
Just stuck on bootloader unlocking.
Got this error "current account is not bound to this device"
I added device from mi unlock status too.

Search on Google. It looks like to be a common issue. If needed, follow the unlocking guide I linked on OP.
successfully flash Foloko ROM to Mi9 se, run very well!
just a small queastion, is DT2W is not working in all GSI rom?
Anyone try it yet?
Is there way to enable DC dimming (anti-pwm)?
I am using Havoc OS and my eyes are hurting..

Before I flash this, I world like to know from those already using this rom: How is the camera quality and finger print unlock response /speed?
I'm pissed at the frequent snow down of the miui system because I run vpn all day on my phone.

Generally speaking, all the GSIs ROMs are based on Phhusson AOSP GSI ROM, so they have more or less the same performance and bugs.
At he moment FOD is not working well. You cannot unblock the device while on screen off or while on AOD.
For camera, you can install BSG Google Camera mod, that is working quite good.

Extracting stock Boot, Recovery and Persist images

Talking here about how to extract the stock Boot, Recovery and Persist images, needed in case of e.g. bootloop upon flashing Magisk or TWRP, to reflash the stock image(s).
Also, boot image is needed for patching from Magisk Manager (and flashing by Fastboot), as a preferable way to install Magisk.
Stock Recovery is needed if you want to revert from the custom one, and stock Persist is important because it contains certificate for Widevine L1 (needed for Full HD in eg Netflix)
From Recovery (zip) firmware
Download the Recovery (zip) image from:
https://c.mi.com/oc/miuidownload/detail?device=1700361
Extract the archive and find the boot.img inside.
However, it does not contain recovery.img
From Fastboot (tgz) firmware
Similarly, download the Fastboot (tgz) image from:
https://c.mi.com/oc/miuidownload/detail?guide=2
(check Desktop site if opening from the mobile browser)
Extract the archive, find the images folder with boot.img and recovery.img inside
From TWRP or OrangeBox
Boot and Persist images can be disk-dumped from TWRP or OrangeFox, from its Terminal, with the command:
Code:
dd if=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/boot of=/sdcard/boot.img
dd if=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/persist of=/sdcard/persist.img
Dumped images will be saved to Internal memory - both the official TWRP and OrangeFox support internal storage encryption (use your Android lock-screen password/pin), hence no need to format Data for TWRP to dump to Internal memory
Note:
Observe that if Magisk was installed, dumped Boot image won't be the stock one but the one already patched by Magisk
We could similarly dump the Recovery image, but since we must dump from TWRP or OorangeFox,
the dumped image won't be the stock one but the image of the installed custom Recovery
From Terminal Emulator app
Similarly, Recovery and Persist mages can be disk-dumped from Terminal emulator app:
Code:
su
dd if=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/recovery of=/sdcard/recovery.img
dd if=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/persist of=/sdcard/persist.img
By ADB
Finally, Recovery and Persist images can be also disk-dumped from ADB:
Code:
adb shell
su
dd if=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/recovery of=/sdcard/recovery.img
dd if=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/persist of=/sdcard/persist.img
Of course, ADB with drivers must be properly installed to the PC, and ADB debugging must be enabled in Settings, Developer options menu on the phone.
PC must be authorized from the phone once they get connected by USB cable
Finally, after the su command, root privilege must be granted to the Terminal emulator app before proceeding with dd command
Take care not to miss the authorization and root granting pop-ups on the phone if screen was switched of
Notes:
Observe that in both cases of Terminal emulator app and ADB, if custom Recovery was already installed, then you will be dumping the image of that custom Recovery
We can similarly dump the Bot image from Terminal emulator app or by ADB - but the root (Magisk) was prerequisite, hence the dumped image will be the Boot image already patched by Magisk
(Extracted stock) image files can be flashed by various ways
From Fastboot
Image files must be on the PC:
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
(I didn't test for persist.img, but found a note somewhere that it doesn't work)
You can also temporarily boot with the given boot.img (it won't be flashed and next time you reboot, it will reboot with the boot image that was flashed/installed previously):
Code:
fastboot boot boot.img
(As far as I tested, it's not possible similarly to temporarily boot with the given recovery image, without really flashing it)
By ADB
Image files must be on Internal memory at /
At the same place wherre you disk-dumped them
Adb must be enabled, phone must be rooted and adb must be granted root privilege
Code:
dd if=/sdcard/boot.img of=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/boot
dd if=/sdcard/recovery.img of=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/recovery
dd if=/sdcard/persist.img of=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/persist
From Terminal Emulator app
Similarly like by adb, but here just use "su dd" instead of "adb shell su dd"
Of course, phone must be rooted and Terminal Emulator app must be granted root privilege
From TWRP
From Advanced, Terminal.
Similarly like by adb, but use just "dd" instead of "adb shell su dd"
However, boot.img and recovery.img can be also flashed from Install menu in TWRP.
Select Image (by default is ZIP File), navigate to your boot.img (recovery.img) and select to flash to Boot (Recovery).
Persist.img cannot be flashed that way because e.g., official TWRP does not offer to patch to Persist
From OrangeFox
Image files can be flashed by "dd" command, just like from TWRP (OrangeFox is developed on top of TWRP)
However, image files can be also flashed directly from the main menu in OrangeFox.
Not only boot.img and recovery.img but also persist.img - see attached screenshot
Reserved
Same applies also for disk-dumping/flashing persistbak.img
It's a good idea to backup both Persist and PersistBack, if something goes wrong you can also restore persisback.img to Persist
Btw, backup (dd) also sdf.img and keep;
dd if=/dev/block/sdf of=/sdcard/sdf.img
restore if you loose IMEIs:
dd if=/sdcard/sdf.bin of=/dev/block/sdf
The fastboot rom comes with the stock persist image?
Maybe with that and the new 3.4.0 recovery (which can flash persist) I can get widevine l1 back.

I doubt you could find persist.img in tgz but download, extract and check
However, you can disk-dump persist.img and persistbak.img, save, rename persistbak.img to persist.img and flash it back, maybe it still contains your L1 certificate
If anything goes wrong, just flash your persist.img back
Has anyone got the L1 certificate using this method?

@drobec255
You by means of ADB always can re-flash phone's Stock ROM ( it's not necessary phone's boot-loader is unlocked )
Code:
adb devices
adb reboot recovery
[i][color=red]Note: In recovery menu presented select option Apply Update From ADB and confirm it, then proceed with[/color][/i]
adb sideload <PATH_TO_STOCK_ROM_IMAGE_FILE_ZIP>
adb reboot

ok, i flashed it to stock ROM, phone works.
I wanna flash it to LineageOS 17.1 but file is ".img.xz" ??? how to? bootloader is unlocked
@drobec255
1st of all things is you must have a TWRP matching your phone at your fingertips.
Next thing is that you must have a Lineage OS 17.1 version that's at 100% compatible with your phone - don't think this exists. BTW: Lineage OS always is offered as a signed ZIP-file.
If these requirements are met, then to replace phone's Android 9 by Lineage OS 17.1 you run this command sequence:
Code:
adb devices
[i][color=red]next 6 cmds backup /efs & /vendor partitions[/color][/i]
adb shell "cat /efs > /data/local/temp/efs_bkup"
adb pull /data/local/temp/efs_bkup %TEMP%\EFS_BKUP
adb shell "rm /data/local/temp/efs_bkup"
adb shell "cat /vendor > /data/local/temp/vendor_bkup"
adb pull /data/local/temp/vendor_bkup %TEMP%\VENDOR_BKUP
adb shell "rm /data/local/temp/vendor_bkup"
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot devices
fastboot erase system
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase userdata
[i][color=red]temporarily boot into TWRP[/color][/i]
fastboot boot <PATH_TO_TWRP_IMG>
[i][color=red]In TWRP's menu select option Apply update from ADB and confirm[/color][/i]
adb sideload <PATH_TO_LINEAGE_OS_ZIP>
[i][color=red]next 2 cmds restore /efs & /vendor partitions[/color][/i]
adb push %TEMP%\EFS_BKUP /efs
adb push %TEMP%\VENDOR_BKUP /vendor
adb reboot
For anyone that this may still happen too....
Use RSA to put your phone back to it's stock rom. Even if it's bricked. it'll recovery it.

Android 11 Stock Images for unbricking X3 Superzoom with Fastboot Commands

I have bricked my X3 SZ and worked 1 week to get it unbricked (bricked after update of Android 11) myself, even the service centre not able to restore it and told me that may be Motherboard Problem. Finally by flashing Android 11 Stock images (created using OFP to CMD file converter), I restore the phone. I tried with unlocked Bootloader mode, don't know about locked bootloader state.
Simply download the stock images from the link and boot into bootloader mode, connect to PC, open Minimal ADB Fastboot and flash with fastboot commands. Required USB, Realme, Android Drivers to be installed in the PC. All your data will be lost and do it at your own risk.
Download all the images (userdata, recovery, boot, vbmeta & dtbo) and copy to the Minimal ADB Fastboot folder, run the CMD prompt and run the following commands:
fastboot devices (to check whether phone connected successfully or not)
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash vbmeta vbmeta.img
fastboot flash userdata userdata.img
fastboot flash dtbo dtbo.img
fastboot reboot
Done.. your X3 SZ must reboot and starts, if not you need to work around or contact SC.. Good Luck
Link Deleted
Thx
EDIT: Very informative and useful!
Cant get magisk_boot.img to work. Going to try orangefox recovery to install Magisk (root).
Tried numerous times to install it (here) took 3-4 hours to get Python to work in windows 7 (cus missing libraries, and newer version dont work). Its bricked the phone 3 times now.
I tried to install TWRP but failed, after I tried Orangefox, successfully installed but not able to boot, rebooting into recovery only, then I flashed only boot image using fastboot and able to boot but lost Custom Recovery. After all I stopped trying anything on X3 SZ
please provide new link
