Please delete all that.
Please.
That tutorial on REDDIT is taken STRAIGHT from my WTF INSTRUCTIONS. If you look closely, he gives me credit. But most parts are copied word for word. I recognize my own phrasing.
Except NOW the Reddit version is OUTDATED.
You need to read the instructions here on XDA, where it was invented. AND KEPT CURRENT.
If you want Reddit, go back there and ask questions.
Otherwise follow the CORRECT Instructions here on XDA.
And stop posting bad info from other forums. You can say your followed it, but do NOT post bad, outdated information.
This is what you need, and where those Reddit instructions came from:
WTF BOOTLOADER UNLOCK, INSTALL TWRP AND ROOT -- AND UPDATE
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76584629&postcount=193

Mod Edit
You'll figure it out by reading and following my current Instructions.
You probably are still on early Oreo or wrong TWRP. You're not understanding you followed outdated Instructions.
Section 9 is about updating to Pie. Your Reddit stuff copied from HERE was written before LG stock Pie even existed.

Mod Edit
Hey friend, cool your jets, chazz asked nicely. He said please repeatedly. And he's the author of the instructions you've tried to follow.
As chazz explained, those ones are out of date. He linked you the recent instructions that I and many others used successfully to root and twrp our lgv30s to get into pie and now 10.
So, go easy pal. Chazz has spent ages helping others out. And his guides are pure gold.
I'd suggest you replace the out of date guidance with current, or better, just link to chazz guide directly in XDA. So others can see best guidance too. Then come telegram and you'll get plenty help there if you get stuck
And up to you ofc, but a little apology goes a long way to fix mistakes
Good luck

New phone and need a little assistance.

This is my first android phone. Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant. I plan on rooting my phone tomorrow and I was wanting to put 2.2 firmware on the phone. I have been told that there are different roms and such and I was hoping someone here could tell me which is the best way to go about upgrading my phone. I tried reading some threads but I am not sure which is the best way to go. Any help would be appreciated.
If you've never rooted your phone and installed a custom ROM before... Read, read, read these forums and especially the thread for the ROM you are thinking of installing. Know how to get yourself out of a jam before you even get in it.
Q&A Section
You might wish to begin your education here on this phone, Android, etc here:

After reading this and understanding a few things, you should be able to flash new roms, backup, restore, fix a brick, etc.

+1...This is what I followed when I flashed my wifes vibrant awhile back, and followed again just a few days ago when I picked mine up.
As for 2.2 ROMs...you will just have to play with them. I would recommend starting with flashable ROMs as they are a little easier to work with if you do not have a lot of experience with flashing
I might suggest this one if you want a no frills basic 2.2 stable, rooted ROM to work with

Thread cleaned. Stop the flaming.
Thanks for the replies! I will start off with that nice guide on how to root the phone. I get the phone tomorrow so hopefully I will not be in here crying about how I ruined my phone. The last phone I modded was the first gen iPhone a few years back. There are so many different things to read that this is a little confusing. I mostly created this thread to get pointed to what works best for those on this forum.

New to Evo 3d..help with root?

You can't find the relevant thread and follow directions? I'll even help you out, you'll need a 32bit unix/linux. Ubuntu has a nice bootable you can burn and use. Then you use the jpuntubear executable downloaded from their website within that. Granted the one provided by the relevant thread might work on a 32bit OS but I can verify that it didn't work on Win7 64bit. Oh and you will have to hotwire your phone, literally short circuit your phone to get s-off so you can put a working ROM on. If you just want root and ok with stock OS, then you don't have to short your phone.
Also, if you can't find relevant thread and follow directions how do you expect to survive in the world of custom ROM's?

I have Windows 7 32 bit..
I also have the same issue. A couple of months ago I tried to get s-off and it failed with the same message. After not finding any relevant information I gave up and just rooted my phone with the stock rom. I have had several android phones (Epic, galaxy SII, Evo 4G, lg Optimus V) and never had any problems. Make sure to reply with an answer rather than bashing the person asking the question.
At the moment I just want to root it..and methods that I have been following don't work..
This method works:

It's close to the top of this forum. Read through the thread titles. You'll find all of your questions answered if you bother to look for them.
Swyped from my GS4.
Nevertheless, belongs in Q&A. Mods please move.

As others have mentioned, what is probably the most comprehensive compilation of information you will find on the web can be found on the link below:

Additionally, if you have issues with the "wire trick" to get S-OFF you can always just do the HTC unlock. You won't be able to flash HBoots but you can flash ROMs and Kernels (use fastboot to boot into recovery from PC).
I, for one, can state that I've done the JopunutBear "wire trick" successfully twice on a Windows 8, 64-bit OS. However, if you choose to try to do this know that you will be entirely on your own as they no longer support anything other than Linux.

[Q] Reading several posts about lollipop I need some guidance please

I have been reading posts after posts, the more I read about them, the more confused I got, so I will ask if someone could help me with this. I have SCH-I545, 4.4.2 I545VRVFNK1. I have lot of customization on my phone I would like to keep root when I upgrade to Lollipop and not to lose any of my apps or customization. I read that if you do not do some "magic" before the lollipop, you are out of luck. I believe there are two major posts about upgrade without losing root, not sure if these are old posts, if they still work and etc. I'm also so confused about all these terminologies, like towelroot, Odin and others. The authors or individual normally give a quick description of the tool but nothing in details on what they do and why we do it without reading posts after posts.
Thank you to everyone that makes all this happens, without you guys there will be no fun. I sincerely appreciated any help.

That just worked for me. I had no problem doing a clean install, but it sounds like you want to keep your settings. Perhaps look around that thread and you'll find your answers.

I used the same method and it's been rock solid.
I doubt you could keep the customizations, like xposed frame work is still not supported in OC1.
I would back up sms and move on to doing a fresh install.
I appreciated your responses, thank you.

Can I install custom roms on LG V30 H931?

Hello everyone! Can I install custom roms on LG V30 H931?
Yes. Look at the posts by ChazzMatt and, specifically, the WTF thread. His post there will detail everything you need to do. Read it carefully, read it over, and then prepare carefully. It's not hard, but it's very specific. Read the page on a computer (not the phone or app as they don't always show the entire post properly).
If you run into problems, there are plenty of troubleshooting steps - try them ALL. MANY people have used this method (including myself) and if you read it and follow it carefully, you really don't need to ask any questions, as they really have all been answered. Certainly you can ask questions, but please try to read the post again because in 99% of the cases, the answer is there.

Looking for step by step guide to take my GT-P7510 to Android 7....latest!!!?

Hope this is posted in the right area....if not, please advise me!
As it says....Looking for step by step guide to take my GT-P7510 to Android 7 (from 4)
Have found some video tutorials which suggest that Android 7 is about as far as the 10.1 will go.
Often links provided have broken....and are incomplete.
The whole 'world' whizzing around here.....don't know where to start!
Need to assemble all required s/w on my PC......is there a step-by-step idiot guide that I might be pointed at please?
Happy to do reading as necessary....but looking for right way into all this!
Hi @MisterKevster,
It seems that you can even try android 8.0. See this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/dev-kernel-4-4-android-8-0-oreo.3688948/
I am going to try it also, so hope it will work
