Installing higher Android version - HTC Desire 610

Hi there,
this is my very first time attempting to upgrade my Desire 610 to a higher os version. I read around on how to install newer os to this phone, and there are still some things that confuses me.
Yesterday I managed to unlock bootloader on the Desire 610 and resetted the phone back to it's original state.
Next I tried to install a file manager because I actually have those files, WRP Recovery App and Kingoroot on the SDcard. The next hurdle is that I'm in China and I can't get into Play Store to search for apks without VPN. I'm using Expressvpn and it my current OS is not supported and I can't get connected. And when I try to use different sites like apkpure or the page doesn't even load up. Well anyway, I went to both the app's websites and managed to download WRP Recovery App and Kingoroot to the phone.
I'm using this tutorial as my guide How to install the latest Android version on any phone or tablet
Now I'm still downloading these apps through the phone.
So I download the Lineage OS 16.
1) Does android OS 9 works on this phone? Coming from the mac world, certain OS are only for certain machine, so that puzzles me. If it doesn't which OS would you recommend?
In WRP Recovery App, I've already downloaded the HTC Desire 610 image onto the phone.
After that I go to Gapps site, I select Platform - ARM, Android - 9.0, Variant - Pico
Then the querying slider at the bottom just runs nothing allows me to download. (I actually have this file on my SD card)
Next I try to root my phone with KingoRoot on the PC but it doesn't even seem to find the phone, eventhough I can view the files on the phone, internal and sd card.
I'm able to reboot in recovery mode, when I select Recovery it restarts and I get a blank screen with a triangle & exclamation mark.
All I just want is to run a music app that I bought on Play Store and run VPN on this phone.
So I'm confused as to how I should proceed? How to install file manager onto the phone, view my SD card contents and what is the next step I should take to upgrade the OS.
I hope that an expert could offer me some advice on this.

I WANT TO START OFF BY SAYING THAT THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE MADE A THREAD ON THIS SITE.
I FEEL MY ISSUE IS UNIQUE AND ALL HELP WILL BE MUCH APPRECIATED. THANK YOU

The tablet that I am dealing with is a "Cruz Velocity Mini Tablet" running android 2.0 and no means of installing apk's.
Currently this is the situation:
A friend of mine lent me her Chinese reader tablet.
I told her that I could probably flash a newer version of Android on it, thinking that I could finally try my hand at making a ROM because I know for a fact that there aren't many ROMs if any at all out there for a chinese off brand reader like this.
After rooting the tablet I deleted the pre installed bloatware via ADB commands (shell) including a file manager (Astro) that I believe was the only way that you could browse files on the tablet, as well as some other pre installed applications that must have been necessary in retrospect. There is no existing vending capability or market application.
I am looking to make a custom ROM (Using android Kitchen and Cywign) through following this tutorial by lokeshsaini94 yet I feel like following that tutorial won't even get me where I need to be.

Things that I have tried at this point include:
Attempting to connect the tablet to my computer with the SD inserted (with and without debugging turned on) [Failed to show up on my computer as a device or anything]
Downloading the APK that I need from a file sharing website [Downloads fail]
Uploading the APK that I need to my Google drive and downloading it from the tablet [Says waiting for data connection and doesn't download even though connected to our WiFi]
Inserting the SD card into my computer, copying the APK I need over to it, then inserting the SD card back into the tablet, going into the browser and typing "File:///sdcard/<name here>.apk" to install an APK but getting an error in the installer after pushing 'install' -> 'Application not installed'
Trying to perform a factory reset; this simply makes the tablet reboot with everything the same as it was before.
Essentially guys and gals, my tablet here is running Android 2.0, I want to update it by making my own rom for it to something at least >4.0, and it seems that I've made things worse and have no way out of this mess. I think I've essentially bricked it even though it still works. :silly:
What do I need to do to make a custom ROM let alone flash/wipe this tablet?
All help will be incredibly valuable
There should be plenty of info here http://www.slatedroid.com/forum/93-velocity-micro-cruz-reader/ to get you on the right track. Not likely you'd be able to get anything beyond Gingerbread on there running due to lack of source code. Your only hope would be to see if there is a newer tablet with the same chipset that has something newer on it to port over.
Still no paddles

Thank you very much for your response. It looks like on that website I've already found multiple useful roms!
In fact I already downloaded one and put it onto the SD card. Apparently for these tablets you're supposed to, while powered off, turn it back on by holding the power button and the volume up button but all this seems to do as a whole load of nothing.
I fear that what I've done to it by deleting potentially sensitive programs previously, I have somehow managed to make this process impossible.
Is there some kind of way that I can plug this tablet into my computer and be able to completely wipe it so I can, at the very least, have a functional tablet that will work at all? I've done approximately 5 factory data resets yet the background image that my friend has on the tablet as well as seemingly every single setting and application is remaining untouched..
Try the ones here that also install a custom recovery: http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/33586-a-clockworkmod-rom-compendium-for-the-cruz-reader/
You'll want to make sure and rename the file exactly as mentioned there on the OP. Install instructions are included too. I don't think there is a way to reload via the PC. The right zip should get everything working properly.

[Q] Chinese Clone Tablet PC (Onda) - Can you sideload a root & new CM bootloader?

Bought a quad core Onda clone tablet (AOC Leopard hardware designation) from China - yes i know, i know, it was a bad idea but the spec was so good i thought it might get me into the tablet fun everyone seems to be having - i repair em but dont really have a lot of knowledge on the software side of things for hacking these things - although after the last two weeks of hacking the thing I am becoming a bit of an expert.
Here is a link to the same one albeit with a different manufacturer made up name - as you can see the spec (Quad core, 1Gb ram, 16Gb storage and hdmi) is amazing for the price of £42 I won it for at the auction so it was more of a plaything to learn on than a big purchase for me.
I am pretty good with Linux so be as technical as you need to be.
Basically the thing buggered up when my mate plugged in the wrong power supply and thankfully it still booted albeit with the OS or bootloader I suspect corrupted.
It is stuck on the Onda loading screen leading to my assumption that it is in a boot loop.
I have spent the last two weeks trying to find drivers for windows , a compatible os and a way to get it restored - ahh the perils of buying chinese!!!
Problem I have now is that the sdcard slot is completely snafu due to my careless and fat fingered fiddling and to be honest a slight bit of temper with the thing after two weeks of head scratching - do you blame me!!!
I have managed to get it recognised by windows by trying driver after driver on the internet until i found one that worked - the perils of buying a no name chinese clone are myriad.
Without the sdcard slot the problem is now worse as i have to use the usb slot connected to the pc and sideload the apps and os but thankfully that is sorted now - Have installed the Android development Bridge - SDK toolkit and adb devices linux command was coming up with no devices but i figured it out with a lot of fiddling with the android ini file in the user profile and the dev id in system device drivers in case anyone else is trying to figure that one out - its a very obscure fix but it works.
So all is swoopy and seemed to be going well until i got the same error i was getting with the sdcard when i tried to sideload a new os - sideloads the new "update.zip" perfectly and even passes the file verification but crashes out with the fatal "unexpected error" have tried Onda official zips and Cyanogenmod flashes but i reckon the problem is because the system is not rooted and doesnt have the cyanogen bootloader installed even though i rooted it with supersu before it went up the khyber so in essence I need root to get the new os on and yes "shell su" command doesnt work as the device is only in sideload mode - only option on the 3e emergency recovery mode on the tablet is either reload from usb , sideload from usb as well as the usual clear cache, reset system and clear user data.
I should add that the hardware isnt snafu as I can see my old files and the operating system on the flash drive when i use recovery mode (power button / up volume combo) - load from sdcard option when i choose browse to sdcard - Linux always mounts the onboard flash as sdcard and an external sdcard as ext-sdcard on a tablet or smartphone - so i can select sdcard and then browse the main flash storage where i can see all my movies , development programs apk's and the Linux system itself but obviously cannot do anything else other than browse the thing for a ZIP to upload onto the \temp which is then extracted by the Emegency recovery environment - checked for verification - it then seems to prepare to install but fails with as you say the usual "unknown error" which i only assume is because I dont have root i cant go any further.
Oneclick root doesnt work.
Also tried the pad product tool v1.05 for direct flash to the tablet using Ainol Novo 10 Captain firmware and it wont even work.
Flashboot adb doesnt work.
Rockchip android tool doesnt work.
Kinda running out of ideas now!!!
Ok ok so what i need to know is basically - Does anyone know if it is possible to root and install a new bootloader from the usb sideloader - ie Adb sideload "filename".
And yes i have tried the pinhole reset button on the back of the tablet and the wipe system and reload option in the recovery menu so hopefully there are some good techies on here who know how to su the bootloader and reload the os or if it is even possible!!!

[Q] ZTE open c - installing google store for dummies

after looking at numerous threads and advice, it seems quite complicated to install a simple fn app, which by definition, is supposed to be easy,
why firefox doesn't have it, considering that most stuff is only available on itunes or google store these days, is beyound me.
Even more so that i thought that the dual core would a) let me run ffos or android ie via easy restart mode,
and b) android would have the google store app.
so. how do i get this on. some ppl seem to be able, and there explanation is: its complicated.
fair enough. i hope you will help me and others to work through this. An explanation for dummies.
this is the best post i'v seen so far.

that won't work, so advice for dummies, from that point forward would be much appreciated. Thanks
ok, so tried installing two other adb programs, http://www.rockchipfirmware.com/sites/tntfiles/PDAnet-64bit.zip
and while neither where completely successful, they did manage to allow adb to access phone,
and for the commands to have determined affects, so have moved on to Upgrade tool, which does not recognize device, thoughts? help?
Hi darth lotus,
To install google play store, you need to be able to write to the system file system, to do this you would either need to root and push google apps (gapps) via adb, or replace the stock recovery with a custom recovery which will allow you flash .zips that are not signed by ZTE.
Installing clockworkmod recovery, for example would allow you to do this,
There are examples of clockwork recovery here http://forum.xda-developers.com/firefox-os/general/zte-c-roms-cw-recovery-50-t2806173 and here http://www.modaco.com/topic/373213-recovery-clockworkmod-6050-for-zte-open-c-kis-3/
And TWRP recovery here http://www.modaco.com/topic/373288-recovery-twrp-2710-for-zte-open-c-kis-3/
The second clockwork and the twrp recovery are by a developer named Konstat who has uploaded all his sources to github https://github.com/KonstaT/android_device_zte_kis3
Konstat has also started work on getting a stable version of Cyanogenmod 11 on the ZTE Open C, please see here http://www.modaco.com/topic/373214-devrom149-cyanogenmod-11-android-444-for-zte-open-c-kis-3/
I apologise for linking to a different website but until we can ask xda to create a zte open c forum, I do not really have an option :crying:

5.0 Released for Mini..maybe?

Just saw this on the official Nubia page, appears to be android 5.0 with split partitions for Nubia Z7 mini dual sim:
http://www.nubia.cn/service.php?sid=5
(use translate)
Has anyone tried this? or seen it before?
I am rooted and gapped so I am a few versions behind as I lost OTA abilities, has anyone got this OTA? Would prefer to do it via this method than using their tool.
EDIT:
Looks like tomorrow is the day:
Dear Cowboys: Hello, everyone! Thank you very much for the concern and support of Nubia. We have been trying to improve the user experience of the system, but also endeavor to provide stable version, on Friday, we will publish Z7, Z7mini, Z7Max, the official version Z9mini and X6, the beta version Z9Max and subsequent versions will continue to update . new stable Lollipop for mini's been officially released
link( in Chinese): http://pan.baidu.com/s/1hqGSezy (password:5mpy , MD5: 2651F3539381AA0B12A21B54729E2EBD )
Above rom can only be upgraded via official upgrade software: http://pan.baidu.com/s/1bnc0J1d (password: 2mua)
Be warned if u choose this one u must use the upgrade software I gave in the link, because there's some changes to the software, using old ones will cause boot loop.
Be warned using this method will lose all ur personal data and apps. U can only upgrade using this method if ur current rom is official 1.82 (4.4 Kitkat) or 2.03, 3.01 (5.0 Lollipop), if using other roms, CM or YIOS for example, the upgrade software will refuse to continue >_<. However, using MIUI6 is OK, because it is based on official 1.82.
recovery zip ROM: http://pan.baidu.com/s/1pJxaYM3 (passowrd:el1j, MD5: 4C409536B1124A86E65F1B66E94E0C2C)
This zip file can be flashed using both official and CM based recovery, provided ur current ROM is official 3.01, otherwise boot loop is also expected
As the files are too large, the only way to download them is by install a clound file management program issued by Baidu. Blame Nubia for not using cloud disk with English support
download link of Baidu cloud file manager:http://bcscdn.baidu.com/netdisk/BaiduYunGuanjia_5.2.7.exe
Just an FYI for other users lookign to upgrade.
My update went well. I installed 1.82 via custom reocvery method. This lost all data but thats what i wanted, to start fresh.
the I used the nubia updater tool to flash the 3.12 rom.
Once the rom is loaded, you will find a lot of junk chinese apps so you will want to clear those out and of course no root or google apps.
here is how to achieve this:
Root - download kingroot pak file from google, run it and you will have root. Its a bit bloaty, you can uninstall all the apps it creates except kinguser (this is the equivalent of superSu) - would be interested to now if anyone else has found a root method that works.
Install custom recovery:
https://mega.co.nz/#!fsMXSC6A!2Vpqy2SGIC_WbFAqNgzE6WgArW2vaWha-zwp_o7yvqE
Enable USB debugging
extract nx507j_twrp_2_8_5_0_NEW archive
connect phone via usb
run recovery.bat
(thanks to another xda user for this)
Boot into the recovery, and install:
pa_gapps-modular-mini-5.0.1-20150418-signed.zip
(google for that file, others may work but this is minimal and does what you need)
Once rebooted, open playstore, enter your gmail, then your contacts and calendar will be synced!
install an app like links2sd or root uninstall and start clearing out all of the garbage apps.
That should be enough to get you started. I will attempt to install xposed tomorrow.
Xposed:
see my other thread for xposed
So I seem to be stuck. I had used the nubia updater to get to 2.03 and rooted and dropped in TWRP. After that I did a TWRP backup. Next I did the usual steps and flashed CM12. Now I want to update again; but, my backup file of 2.03 is corrupted and won't boot. When I try to use the nubia update tool it doesn't see the phone even though it says the driver is installed correctly. I have also tried the steps that @rx1 posted on 7 May, but that hasn't worked yet. In my device manager settings it has Android Phone with a dropdown that says Android Composite ADB Interface and the driver is installed correctly. However, a little further in the list it says Other Devices and lists Android with the yellow exclamation. Despite what I try it won't find the driver for that one. It's confusing because one says it is correctly installed (as does the Qualcomm Drivers installer) and the other does not. Ohh, and when I look at my computer (sorry not a PC guy, borrowing from a friend) under Devices with Removable Storage, the phone shows as a DVD player. Any ideas or help out here?
Sorry, posted in wrong thread.
I think you wiped system when you installed CM 12 or later . Your phone has already merged partitions and you don't need Nubia Tools anymore.
- Go to TWRP
- Downlod form PC a 3.01 or 3.12 ROM , preferable rooted .
- install it after wipe only " factory reset " .
If your PC can't see the phone ( only as DVD ) ....try to re-install CM 12 from phone .
The only driver that works:
uninstall all existing items form your device manager, disconnect phone
download package: https://mega.co.nz/#!GN9GSQZL!F4ZMFAPPJKR8VBM0wqPWTaBB2Fuv6C1Go0bFl3fD6SM
run it and select option 1 install drivers
reconnect phone
(dont use this tool for anything other than dirvers on z7 mini.
Also agree with poster above you shouldn't be using nubia tool to flash a cm ROM. Use the instructions cm provide.

Thanks for your help. Although, I will say that I used TWRP to flash CM12, not the nubia updater. I do know that much. Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but it seems one of you is saying that I should use the update tool to get to 3.01 or 3.12 and the other seems to say flash it with TWRP; am I misunderstanding something here?

The package says Z7Max? Is it actually for the mini?
Yes, as I said above only use this tool to install drivers. They are the same. Don't use it for anything else on a mini.

Thanks. That was my only problem. I had been using the wrong drivers. It worked quick and simple, just like it did before.
First of all hello everyone since this is my 1st post
I upgraded to official 3.01 Lollipop and I want to ask if it is possible to install playstore without root since I want to run an app that won't work if the phone is rooted and I can't find it anywhere else other than playstore, otherwise I would be just fine without all the google apps.
Alternatively would it work if I installed a pre rooted ROM and then unroot it, is that possible?
Hope this thread is suitable for these questions and thanx in advance to anyone that can help.
What app is it called? Maybe I can find it on play store then send you the apk install file.
It's called OTE TV GO but from what I've read even if you can find the apk it will not work unless you have downloaded it from your device.
Well I don't know how much luck you will have because it shows as incompatible with my device. (maybe because Im root?)
Anyways the way to do it is, either from chrome or firefrox install this extension on your PC
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/.../cgihflhdpokeobcfimliamffejfnmfii?hl=en&gl=VN
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/apk-downloader/
go into the options and enter your device ID and email etc. then yeah just do as it says, go to the playstore then the extension will allow you to directly download the apk file then copy it and then install to your device.
Second option is, there is a app called "rootcloak" that will hide the fact you are rooted from any apps you choose to, so in theory the playstore and ota thing wont know you have root.
I tried the firefox extension but when I try to download any app I get "Cannot download this app.
Login session has expired or your email and device ID are incorrect/not activated on Google Play app"
Will try second option as soon as possible. Thanx anyway

How I updated my P9 Plus - Vie-L29C605 (Latin America) from M to N!

Hi All,
Let me share my experience on how I updated my Huawei P9 Plus for Latin America region. Hopefully this will help others to get their phone successfully working on Nougat.
Requirements:
Unlocked bootloader (there are plenty of articles about how to do this online)
Custom Recovery (TWRP) - Use only the one from this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8/development/twrp-t3566563
Data File - Download it from here
Micro SD (4G or bigger)
First off, I followed the instructions from here: http://ministryofsolutions.com/2017/06/huawei-p9-plus-vie-l29-nougat-b361-emui-5-latin-america.html
I know here there are many tutorials on how to do it, but this was the site I used as it had 3 different ways of doing it and it was pretty straight forward. I used the 1st method which required to make the change on HiSuite and Huawei Updater.
The struggle happened when the phone rebooted, the phone got into a C900 version and the ROM itself got installed but many apps were missing and bluetooth was dead. There's a reason for that! The installation is a 2 part process and the files installed are:
update.zip (The basic ROM)
update_data_full_hw_la.zip (Drivers, 3rd party apps, Huawei apps such as notepad, calculator, among others)
Evidently, the 2nd file was not installed, ergo, the ROM was not entirely installed. Let's say that it's like installing Windows 10 with drivers and apps for windows XP!
But... Why did this happen? Well, the answer is simple, Android 7 encrypts the DATA partition, this is where the missing apps are installed and when the update runs, the 2nd file is not installed due to this issue (the partition becomes READ ONLY).
At this point, create a folder on the root of the Micro SD called dload, put the update_data_full_hw_la.zip file there, DO NOT UNZIP IT!
This is the tricky part! I looked for TWRP for this phone and NONE of the vienna versions worked, so, finally, I found the thread mentioned above on this post and installed TWRP for Honor 8. Installation steps can be found on the article.
Finally, I rebooted into recovery (Vol Up + Power button). Recovery works! Now, go to Install in TWRP, change to External Storage (by default, TWRP looks for the internal storage) go to the dload folder and then select the update_data_full_hw_la.zip file, it will start installing the file, it will take a few mintes.
Finally, TWRP will ask you if you want to format cache/dalvik. Do so.
The phone will reboot and the ROM will be fully installed and everything will be working with all apps, settings and everything as you had it on Marshmallow but now... On Nougat!!!
I hope this helps!
