why hasn't anyone tried yet? - Samsung Galaxy A10 Questions & Answers

who uses GSI know
the best are always the ARM64 versions
so why didn't anyone try to make a 64bit vendor for the A10?
is this a device so useless? :crying:
I think an ARM64 vendor would give a new life to the devices, and open up great new possibilities

The A10 being a budget device is besides the point, the moto g's had amazing development. What it depends on is a dev having the device and wanting to develop.

Yeah but no devs want any Samsung low end devices. Samsung has gathered a pretty bad reputation when it comes to development, so most devs avoid them.

Cyanogenmod

Will this phone ever see official Cyanogenmod roms?
No. Le will never release kernel sources. So you will never have pure CM roms. The CM roms will be based on official ones like 16S, 17S etc.

That would be fantastic, lack of cyanogenmod is the only thing that keeps me from buying the device.

Could you maybe be clearer on this? How likely is it that this is actually going to happen?
I don't know @deadman96385, but i think if a User which such "Experience" in a Community like XDA Developers tells you that the kernel sources may be release, i think you just have to be a Little bit Patient and anytime your dreams will be fulfilled... am i right deadman?

Yes I guess, its just this is the key reason whether I decide to buy this phone or not, dont want to be stuck with chinese roms in the future.
Hi,
Well we already have resurrection remix which is more than decent.
OK... Maybe with a precompiled kernel but still.
I use it as a daily driver and encountered no problems so far except for a slightly too high battery drain.
But a device tree would allow to build other ROMs which would be really cool...
Regards
@deadman96385 it's already in the mid of september.. do you still see any realistic chance that we're gonna see some kernel source or a cyanogenmod in the future. if you do.. of which timeframe do we talk? days, weeks months?

What are the main disadvantages between precompiled kernel and the use of kernel sources?
Also, I recommend checking htcmania Spain forum, because Parasite_remix is cooking Mooke and CM13 ROMs with 17S firmware.

Hi,
With the custom kernel, that one can be "optimized" for the device and all missing drivers can be added. At least, that is what I have been told but I'd be glad to be proven wrong.
For the htcmania link : thanks a ton, but I don't think I'll use it.
I sold the x820. Battery drain was really too high and even with moderate use, I could barely get through the day
Finding a replacement was tough, but I am trying the Xiaomi mi5 and Moto X Style (Pure) to see if they can do the job...
Both have flaws the x820 had not. And I honestly must admit that I am missing the x820 already
Regards.

Sadly though, more and more people are leaving the Le Max2 camp. If only they would release the sources...

There are a few problems with using prebuilt kernels.
1. Upstream changes in Android source code might need related kernel changes, if you don't have the kernel source you can't do this.
2. For the same reason, you may be stuck on old android versions if the kernel isn't compatible with newer versions
3 Vendor may have customized some android frameworks and made related kernel changes. As CM wouldn't have these changed frameworks, some features may not work (although this doesn't appear to be an issue with this phone as the CM builds for it seems to be fully functional)

we will have lineage-15.0 unofficial i9300?

You need to wait another few weeks i thinks
Why do you have all this fuss over LAOS 15? Is there something wrong with the 14.1 you're using? The device is old and you should thank for still having maintainers, and have made this old device reach so far. But if you are in such a hurry, it would be better to change the device, change it into a device that has already received the unofficial version, it is an excellent option. Otherwise, will wait with everyone.

Yup, true, I am very happy with my 7.1 and do not need a 8.0... BUT, yes, Lineage 15 WILL be for S3 (wait for 2018)
My s3 has became my backup phone, but LOS14.1 gives me more fun on my old phone.Wish to get oreo update. And I think if android one project can be port to s3 will get a lot more fun.

But what does this have to do with the ROM itself? what is well explained is that they will develop kernels only for specific OnePlus browsers, those who do not use these custom kernels, this news has little or no relevance. I used the boeffla kernel a few times, but if I put it on the tip of the pencil, it did not serve me as satisfactorily as the LOS kernel, so it's not sad news, so to speak. What's more, the new version of android will bring the benefits you need, which is a better RAM management and less battery consumption, something many were looking for using custom kernels to do underclock.:good:

Oreo is said to be optimized for "low end" devices and is requiring far less resources. So the expectation is that 8.0 will run much smooter on the i9300 than 7.1.
It is a pity that there will be no lineage 15 for the gt-i9300

What's next, our beloved developers?

Since wileyfox phones are no more 'officially' supported, which also means there will be no more updates in the future, are we going to see any stable ROMs based on Oreo for wileyfox swift 2(x/+)? perhaps Lineage OS 15? Would be awesome to hear some good news from you guys!
UPDATE: Wileyfox is back, oreo will be available soon (within 3 weeks)
You need to wait for the official release of Android 8 for Wileyfox Swift 2/2 Plus / 2 X and the kernel source code. And then see what happens)

A Lack of updates won't really turn your phone into a Shiny brick, also there is a way more active rom community over on 4pda
Ii myself have been trying to do a port of the newer version of MIUI in my spare time too, then you got VBCerobil who was working on an Oreo build for the Swift, but he has been busy and has not been very active here recenlty

Quite a relief, too... I really feared we were stuck w/out support...

android p sources are out final but no ports yet?

It's been a week android pie is available...and xiaomi mi4 even got the android pie ROM today and we don't have any leak about Nexus 6p. I guess Nexus and pixel should be the first to get any leak on os because of same manufacturer. Does anyone know what's the status of development of pie of
Nexus 6p :crying:
There was a post up yesterday. @drewwalton19216801 successfully built Android pie for Nexus 6P, but wasn't able to test it because the physical port on his phone didn't connect to adb for some reason. So, he posted the builds if others wanted to try booting. There were a couple that were attempting to flash and help with the progress. The thread appears to have vanished overnight. I can't seem to find it anymore.
Jup, I tested it.
Was able to grab a logcat from adb so the kernel itself seems to boot.
But there are too many fatal errors right now.
I believe it was a pretty hacked build.
Duplicate whoops

I know @drewwalton19216801 said he used the official source code and drivers, kernel, etc. That's probably the most pure it can get. Probably another reason he wanted to get it tested. I'm sure if he had a working phone that development would move along more quickly for him.
Last he said in his thread was that he was compiling something specific for you in regards to getting it to flash properly. I was really looking forward to that thread making progress. It's kind of mysterious that the mods just made his thread disappear as if nothing ever happened.

Treble, maybe. I won't be porting it ?
OnePlus get AOSP Android Pie ports
OnePlus 2 recieve port of Pie, an it too has Snap 810
I'm currently working on porting P over and I have it compiling right now. Once I have it able to boot I will upload it. Then I'll optimize it and fix all of the underlying bugs.
Edit: Repetition.

It's going to be released as an AOSP rom, So that the community has a baseline for Pie ROMS. Other than compatibility tweaks, and some small performance, thermal and battery tweaks, it will be completely vanilla. I'm trying to keep it as pure as possible meaning only AOSP source and Huawei binaries.
However, I already have plans on releasing a Pie based custom rom with a Pixel theme. So keep an eye out for AugmentOS in the future
Edit: This may take awhile. The non-frees don't want to compile correctly and when they do they don't boot.

Question LineageOS

Now that Kernel source has been released by the manufacturer.
Here's hoping Lineage/ArrowOS/CrDroid/Havoc/AOSP is released for this brilliant value-for-money device!
Those ROMs doesn't require kernel source.
You can already run all those ROMs on OP Nord2 as GSI.

Is GSI some emulator style? Why do devs crib about Mediatek sources not being available? Is there another way of making ROMs in a native way? This is the first time I'm reading about something called as GSI ?!

Not at all, it runs natively just like stock rom.
The idea of a GSI is simply that we keep the drivers from stock ROM. They are working perfectly fine for stock ROM users, there is no reason those drivers wouldn't work fine for us.

Honestly? I'd say stubborness. Yes, we can use sources of more drivers on Qualcomm devices than on Mediatek devices, but to what end? Everytime needed sources of a driver on a Qualcomm platform, its sources were not available at all.
On Mediatek side, there is some source code available, but from shady origin, so they can be used to learn more about how Mediatek drivers work, but it can't be used to build drivers directly from sources. Again, we can just use stock ROM's drivers.

Yeah well GSI are severely underrated, because you can't make a news about a generic image working on a new device at every new device...
