Don't Waste Your Time Trying to Root Galaxy S9 G960F Andriod Pie(9) - Android

I've been rooting and modding android phones in the past 3 years. Recently, I got a used Galaxy S9 (model G960F) and tried to root it. After literally a whole week of researching and numerous trials and testings, I came to the conclusion that the Galaxy S9 G960F is not root-able. So, to save you some time and energy, don't try to root it. It will NOT work. Unless someone comes up with a bypass to the "RMM State: Prenormal" while the "OEM Unlock" is off, and "KG: Checking."
This is what happens:
After turning ON the "OEM Unlock," the RMM State will remain PRENORMAL while the KG is CHECKING. KG State is good, but it's almost impossible to bypass the RMM State unless you already successfully flashed TWRP. But to successfully flash TWRP, you will need to unlock RMM State first.
You're welcome!

OEM Unlock not appearing after 7 days -- SM-G965F/DS (Exynos)

I have an unlocked SM-G965F/DS (Exynos) that has not shown the OEM unlock option yet. Tried:
Installing active SIM
Logging in to Google and Samsung accounts, then
Leaving the phone online for 170 hours (uptime reached ~175 hours)
I see a few other threads on the SM-G965F/DS, also indicating no OEM unlock appeared. Has anyone actually gotten the SM-G965F/DS to show an OEM unlock option?
Firmware and hardware versions:
Hardware: SM-G965FZBDXSP
CSC code: XSP
Botloader: G965FXXU1BRE6
CSC: G965FOXM1BRE6
Android Build Number: R16NW.G965FXXU1BRE6
EDIT:
Bootloader shows:
Model: G965F
RMM State: Prenormal
FRP Lock: ON
OEM Lock: ON
Is only the single-SIM 965F unlockable? Is there a recommended dual-SIM model in case I end up just sending this one back?
Appreciate any help you guys can provide!

Great, thank you for the data point. Do you happen to know the CSC and stock firmware version you had installed when the OEM unlock appeared? If I don't see the option after another 7 days I intend to ODIN over a known good CSC / firmware version.

because i have a oneplus 6 i am using. and because i require root. i dont use devices that are not rooted.
Did finally get it working. My device originally came with RMM prenormal, FRP lock off, OEM lock on. Setting up the phone normally and inserting a SIM, then waiting 7 days, did NOT work. I suspect the phone was in an abnormal state due to a partial setup by the prior owner / reseller.
What did the trick for me was to force reset the phone (lose all data) via the settings menu, have a SIM inserted, go through the full setup process (Google and Samsung accounts), then leave the phone on for 7 days. The reset caused RMM prenormal, FRP lock on, OEM lock on. After 168 hours the OEM unlock option appeared in the developer settings menu.
A little guidance here. I've only dealt with Google Nexus devices and the OnePlus One, which were ridiculously easy to unlock and put on a custom ROM. I'm currently running (yes, still) a Nexus 6P because there hasn't been a phone that really interests me. I do like the S9+, and can get a good price on a BNIB SM-G965F/DS. I just want to run AOSP on it, no frills, no thrills, just vanilla. That's how I roll. So, I'll need to unlock the bootloader, install TWRP, and load up a new ROM.
With that said, all that I've read, I'm a little confused. I use t-mobile, so will I need to put in the t-mobile sim for 7 days to get OEM unlock, or will I need this done in an EU country (it is an EU version) due to the region locking Samsung has been doing since 2013? There just seems to be a lot of competing and incomplete information all over the damned place.
And don't tell me to search, please. I've been around on this forum long enough to know how to search, and long enough to know that search doesn't always yield the results you're looking for. So, if you have a link to a more descriptive explanation of what to do/expect, I'd be grateful.
Thanks.
EDIT: Found this: https://www.xda-developers.com/fix-...y-s9-samsung-galaxy-s8-samsung-galaxy-note-8/
Maybe that would work... but still don't understand if I need it activated on an EU SIM first.. Now I remember why I've avoided Samsung devices...

Oem unlock isnt gonna do anything for the device. Its kind of pointless to do for now.
HELP! OEM Unlock came up after 7 days. I turned it on, and it said that doing so will erase data... yadda yadda, and then it restarted, wiped, and then rebooted. ... No OEM Unlock in the menu anymore and back to RMM STATE: Prenormal.
WTF??

Multiple guides to either TWRP/root or ROM s9+ involve manually restarting the phone BEFORE samsung auto restarts your phone.
In other words, don't let the force restart from samsung go through, and manually restart it the moment you press OK to factory wipe and restart
EDIT: also make sure you have signed out of google before going into DL mode to TWRP phone, as this does the "FRP lock" from what I personally understand and Odin won't let you TWRP with FRP lock on. This was my 2nd mistake (and second 7-day lockout). First mistake was what you did, by letting samsung beat you at restarting phone.

Thanks. I got through it all a while back now. You have to be lightning quick. So dumb. This will most likely be my last Samsung device. There are other options that are much less hassle to do this work on.

Unlocked Bootloader but Prenormal RMM

I've got a G965F that I've just updated to 9.0 (CSA1).
After setting up my phone I went into developer options, switched on OEM unlock and reset my phone.
Even after doing this, I still have a prenormal RMM state, however my FRP and OEM lock are both "off".
Has anyone experienced this, or know a workaround?
Or do I have to still wait 7 days?

No workaround, wait 7 days. If you're lucky, it will clear. Depending on where you bought the phone, this might never clear though.

In my understanding, it's not necessary to downgrade to Oreo for it to clear after 7 days. If it won't clear on Pie, then it won't clear on Oreo either. If in Oreo, it was clearing for OP and OEM unlock was appearing after 7 days, then the RMM prenormal will also clear in Pie.

When I was on Oreo, the OEM unlock option wasn't even there no matter how much uptime I had etc.
But straight away on Pie the option was there.

That's correct, but even though the option is there immediately on Pie, RMM state is still prenormal in download mode, and therefore still unable to flash non official binaries in Odin. In Pie there is also a "KG state : checking" line in download mode. I think KG stands for Knox Guard (guessing only). Anyone's guess what that is for... complete opacity on the Samsung side...
Where did you buy your phone? Please post your csc codes in settings -> about phone -> software information -> service provider SW version

Bought my phone in NZ, but I've since flashed the Australian pie update (TEL).
Not sure how much info you want from SW version, so here's all of it:

I can only guess that NZ phones are locked also then... if you can, check the phones of some of your friends in download mode and see whether they have the RMM prenormal and/or KG checking lines.

You bought your phone in Germany and use it with a UK SIM I think?
As far as I know, European phones don't have that problem. Your prenormal mode should clear in 7 days. Check it in download mode, if it says RMM state prenormal, then it's locked. If it doesn't say RMM prenormal, you're good to flash whatever you want.

Well I checked my friend's S9+ (of same model etc.); the RMM status wasn't there and his device status was Custom.
He says he hasn't rooted etc., and I believe him as he wouldn't even know what to do.
Either way it doesn't change anything haha, I'll just wait the remaining 5 days and hope for the best :good:
Just waited my 168 hours and my RMM state is still prenormal.
Bit unfortunate.
Edit: I restarted a couple times and my RMM state had disappeared from download mode and I was able to flash TWRP!

I had no issues with RMM or OEM Unlock on the 9650 8.0, since moving to Pie, RMM won't clear and OEM Unlock option disappeared.
Downgrade to the newest 8.0 firmware you can, switch OFF OEM Unlock, Update to Pie, then switch OEM Unlock back on and wait the 7 day waiting period for RMM - This in theory should solve the issue as long as your model is able to be unlocked and root compatible.
Hope this clears up your understanding!
I have a strange issue I have unlocked my bootloader g965f exynos variant but my kg state says checking what does this mean ?? But I still have oem unlock option available
RMM STATUS is always Prenormal. KG STATUS is Checking. Why?
Has anyone had any success clearing the RMM prenormal flag? I've waited 7 days but it didn't work. OEM unlock is enabled in developer options and KG state is checking.

S9+ G965 flashing issues

I've recently (successfully?) bootloader unlocked my S9+ snapdragon and am trying to flash twrp in order to flash lineage. I waited a week for the oem unlock option, which I used sucessfully, and I used the crom service app to unlock my bootloader. Neither have given me any issues, and when I boot normally and open the crom app, it tells me that my bootloader is already unlocked. Unfortunately, when I run odin, it successfully sees my device and is able to push the twrp .img.tar file through the AP option. It fails to flash however, and the phone gives a "only official released binaries are allowed" message. The frp lock and oem lock fields say off in the download mode screen, but the rmm state is prenormal again. I've heard that you can flash some rmm state bypass zip if if resets after you unlock your phone, but I'm not sure which one would work with my device, or if I need to wait another week. Thanks in advance to anyone who can provide information on what I should do.

So can I root this thing or not? (G991U1 w/XAA)

I bought an unlocked S21 from Samsung directly; it currently has "1OYM2AUC8" firmware on it with XAA CSC. There is no "OEM unlock" option anywhere in the developer options, and my KG status says "Completed" in download mode.
I was gonna install Magisk and go for it—I'm computer-savvy, but haven't rooted a phone since 2014, lol. However, looking around I found several posts saying that there is no working root method for this phone in particular, unless I'm misunderstanding something horribly? Can someone set me straight here?

I've also been looking around for a solid root method for my device (G991U) and the only thing I've been able to find is a paid "token," which to my understanding is not a bootloader unlock and will not work on any post March security updated phone (i.e. my phone). I also am missing the OEM unlock option as well. With there being no guides and little to no activity on the forums I'm stuck on how to root this thing too. I've seen a couple of YouTube guides but they're for the exynos model (which also seems to have the OEM unlock option). Is there anyone working on an exploit or a way to unlock the phone bootloader? Is this token based from Samsung? It's been a while since I've rooted a Samsung phone and things look so different now. Could anyone she's some light on the subject for me and the guy I quoted? Tia!
Please let me know if you come back and find anything @pmacevad. I would really like to get this thing rooted.
US Samsung S series hasn't been bootloader unlockable since the S6 or S7, and root right now requires a $150 paid bootloader unlock. That's it. If you were looking for something easier, I suggest reassessing your need for root, or looking for another device.

Galaxy A215U1 OEM Unlock Android 10.0

I have been recently trying to root my galaxy a21 and I have discovered that the apps I try to root it with won't work because of the missing OEM unlock option. I have seen the guides about setting back the date and the whole Prenormal RMM thing, but I have had the phone and a samsung account for about 6 months at this point. I also read something that said that samsung removed the option on non-international phones. I was wondering if anyone here knows how I can get the OEM unlock option to appear, thanks! (also it's one core UI ver 2.1, idk if that helps)
Damn, there is literally no love for this Galaxy A21 phone. lol. I am in the same boat as you.
