Protect your screens!

Due to some unforeseen circumstances my 2 week old phone was damaged by an incompetent baggage security check operative!
I was having my families hand luggage checked at Manchester Airport uk and stuck my naked S4 in the plastic tub alongside a stable hold all., sure enough my mother in law had stashed some really lethal Colgate toothpaste in her bag!!! It went to be forwarded to a 50+ buffoon!!
He wouldn't let me get my phone, "all items have to stay in the tray" he said, I then knew my new shiney S4 was doomed. ..
sure enough once I got my phone back I noticed the screen was marked/scratched.

Truemate dead after Dropping into a bathtub

Hi,
Anyone of you Omate owners encountered this? My toddler drop my watch into a bath tub of water approximately 6" above ankle depth and guess what? It's dead ... when I discover it and retrieved it from the tub 15 minutes later. Just received the watch few days ago and has not even inserted the SIM card ... Seems that all those crab about water resistance is just gimmicks ...
It was said water resistant, but not if you break seal on the back to put a SD card....
Did you opened it?? If not, you might ccontact Omate to have a new one... if they respond to your request....
From the testing people in this forum has made, it seems the Omate is about as water resistant as a paper bag. Anything more than a bit of splash / rain and you can be pretty sure the watch is fried. The water protection on this watch it just a joke, more or less non-existant.
bit of shocking really...
I have Pebble as well and although they also says it's rated for occasional splash and quick dunk but never in prolonged submersion yet when I was holiday at Cebu it never left my wrist and went to salty water as well as numerous pool inc. heated pool and never skipped the beat.
I wonder the original watch the Omate is based on has any water resistant rating at all...
Omate Truesmart not IP67 for me too !
My TS drowned after 3 showers!
I completely disassembled to find out why.
I made a little video which clearly gives the reason:
"youtube.com/user/StevesenAcLille/videos"
(It is in French, but the pictures speak for it themselves)
best regards
Hi lippisteve,
Very good video. If not for the oversight, the watch would have passed the IP67 test. Did you manage to repair it and seal the gap?
Cheers

No chance. My TS has a faulty screen. They told me to send it back to them in Hong Kong with the box and everything that came with it and in 2 months from receipt of the watch they would send a new one.
I carefully packed everything up, I went to the Post Office here in the UK and the lady showed me her screen - Lithium batteries cannot be posted to Hong Kong. They're classed as dangerous items and therefore restricted.
So now I'm stuck with a lemon.
How absolutely ridiculous.

In your video it looks like the translucent plastic sealing plate over the back inside of the mic pinhole was missing. Did you stick a pin into that mic hole from outside before you took it apart for the video?
I am wondering if you broke it out, or if it was never there. If it was never there, is that because the aluminum case versions don't have that installed on purpose, any of them ?
Also you were pointing out something that looked to me to be a missing area of sealant under the mic assembly, right ?

Post it with no battery? Battery inside device might be OK anyway. I'd be surprised if you get a fix, but you never know.

FCC paper stuck!!!

I tried to insert my microSD card into the slot and in the process broke the spring mechanism that reels the FCC paper back into the slot. I pulled the FCC paper out until the black plastic film is showing and now it doesn't spring back.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2683703
I dont think theres a mechanism that pulls it back in (my experience). You'll need to push it back.
I took it to Geek Squad helpdesk in the UK who said I pulled it out too far. It needs to go back to Sony to be fixed as they need to open the case to reel it back! And I can't cut it out as it contains warranty information.
Looked at android authority's video and confirm that you'll need to manually push it in.
I overextended it till the black plastic film past the paper came out. Even the service desk were enable to put it back in.
Ohh I misinterpreted your post. Just take it to service or cut it off and put it in a safe place. The paper won't do much good anyway.

parts replacement of the lenovo a588t for buy - the hinge broke after suffering a fal

Dear,
My name is Leonardo Ivo. I bought a smartphone a588t of the Lenovo since last years . It happens that I accidentally ended up letting him fall to the ground, and drop it collided with the part of the flip against it. After that it was all soft. Opening it, I saw that part of the hinge that is focused on the main board which is the keyboard was broken. I tried to recover the part of all possible ways and could not. I looked at Ali Express, Google and Deal Xtreme and found nothing. Therefore, I would like to know where I could buy this hinge and any other spare part of Lenovo a588t. If you have any information, pass on me as soon as possible. Thank you in advance.
att,
Leonardo Ivo

Question Samsung Trade-In: any issues?

I had an "almost" successful trade-in from Samsung.com, I sent my S22U and they just received it yesterday. It has no cracks nor scratches at all, it is in prestine condition, I took pictures and videos before boxing it in. Then i received an email saying that the phone have "crack" on body and / screen! So they're going to charge me $155! I was so mad and I immediately called CS and i told them It has no cracks at all before before sending it. Good thing they have an easy to talk to CS. It was resolved immediately because I told them i took pictures and video of it right before i put on the box.
This was my 2nd trade-in nightmare, the 1st one was the Smartwatch trade-in, same thing. They said it has crack also. I wonder who really are checking these?
Samsung is notorious for doing this. Happens with repairs too and has been going on for years.
Many have reported similar experiences.
Another option on addition to taking pics of it is to let a FedEx rep examine the phone then photograph and box it there. ALWAYS insure the shipping for the new replacement price of the phone. Double box and pad/tape it up well.

Yeah, i had to carefully wrapped it from the S23U shipping wraps / box and even installed my old case
Unreal! Samsung tried to do the same thing to me. Wanted to take $155.00 off the value of the Trade-in cause they said the screen was cracked. But i had removed all my accounts from the phone, factory reset it, packed it up in its original box, took pictures and wrote down the IEMI and Serial numbers. Phone was in MINT condition without even a scratch. So they quickly reversed course and gave me the full $500 trade-in value. But it's the first Trade-in where I have had a problem with them. They must have some seriously crooked people on payroll at their warehouses in Texas because obviously I am not the first one they have done this too.
My trade-in with Samsung Germany (S22U Exynos) went flawlessly (sent back with screen protector still on, in the original box). Is it an issue people in USA are often having with the trade-ins?
My S22U trade-in went perfectly too.
I'm in the UK and I actually traded in my 12GB/512GB SnapDragon S9080 which was a Hong Kong spec S22U (and cost me £300 less than the equivalent UK spec phone initially). I got £620 trade-in value for it.
I also only factory reset it as opposed to removing my Google Account first so that debunks that rumour too!

No rumor. If you factory reset from settings you should be ok. If you do the reset from the boot menu without removing your Google account FRP will be active.

Did a class-action against Samsung US got launched in the recent years? If many people are encountering that kind of stuff, I'm nearly surprised that it hasn't been done (yet?).
Small scratch below the camera, samsung called badly cracked and offered the same $155 charge.
I will never trade in with samsung again.

Darn it. I had to rush out my shipment so I had no time to take photos or videos. I also didn’t have the phone box so I just put case and wrapped phone in bubble wrap in a tight box. Does have minor scratches on screen as I only used it with case and no screen guard but nothing else

If you don't use a screen protector it will likely get scratched.
Always keep the original box. When shipping place that in a sturdy box that's bigger and place bubble wrap all around it so it's not loose or in contact with the box, seal with tape.
Get a larger box and repeat.
ALWAYS fully insure the shipping. If prepaid make sure the issuer of the label is fully insuring YOUR phone! If in any doubt pay for the shipping yourself. Use FedEx or UPS, 2nd day is best.

If you didn't have the original phone box you were supposed to send it back in the S23u box.

They didn't asked for the video or picture when I called them. You should be fine... if in US, good luck!

That's for your protection not theirs!
It strengthens your position if your insurance claim is disputed. Cover your six...
Got exactly the same issue.
My trade in S22 Ultra was in pristine condition.
I contacted support on chat and it took the representative less than five minutes to cancel the charge.
Did they actually checked?
Are they taking a chance that we are going people are going to suck it up and pay $155?
This is borderline fraudulent.
My trade in went down to 1$ value :-( It was originally 5$ so I'm not that disappointed
Seems like this is US problem mostly. My S22U went in... took Samsung 10 days to process and then I've got email that has been done. So my only complain could be lack or very minimal information provided of what is going on.

Cause I just toss my S22 in the shipping box the s23 came in and deip the thing off at fed ex. I did keep my screen protector on it and I also left the case on. Got my full credit day before yesterday.

The instructions for Samsung state to put the phone in the box nothing else. No cases, no accessories etc. Just the bare phone. And you put it in the S23U box and put the s23 box in the shipping box that it came in. At least that how you supposed to do it. I always have my original box so I put mine in the S22U box.
