is anyone else having issues staying connected to WiFi? - LG V60 ThinQ Questions & Answers

My v60 is connected, but I loose the ability to browse... If I drop WiFi, then reconnect, it's fine, but if it's idle for a few mins, it gets choked with no internet ability.
I even went as far as static IP settings, etc... Never had this issue with my V30.
So far I am disappointed... my wifi icon sometimes has a ! in the icon...but that went away when I put in static IP and static DNS... didn't help though.
please see my next post for the fix to this issue!!!

fixed the problem. Google inexplicably removed the "Keep WiFi on during sleep" setting from Android 10
to fix the problem you can do the following:
To set it:
adb shell settings put global wifi_sleep_policy 2
To find out what it is now:
adb shell settings list global
Keep WiFi on during sleep: Always = 2
Keep WiFi on during sleep: Only When Plugged In = 1
Keep WiFi on during sleep: Never = 0
found the fix here, says for Pixel2, but works on the LG V60 too!

Problem resolved!! WiFi Sleep issue in Android 10!
please see my previous post for the fix to this issue!!!
you need USB debugging turned on and ADB to fix the problem!

Update on my fix for v60 with WIFI that disconnects after sleep on 802.11N only
Update: My success with this was short lived. Worked for about a week and then back to the same 'ol. Checked the ADB nothing changed. Ended up installing "automate" by llama and creating a flow to check internet via ping and then turn on and turn off the wifi. Few things with that. 1: WiFi Enabled - Yes->Ping 8.8.8.8 - No ->Disable WIFI->Delay 2 sec-> Enable Wifi -> Delay 15 sec->Loop to 1.
Few points:
If Wifi Enabled = No, then loop to 15 sec delay
If Ping = Success, loop to 15 sec delay
After WIFI Enable = Loop to 15 sec delay
15-Sec Delay to "Is Wifi Enabled"

Wanted to update my experience on this. I have discovered my v60 fails to work after the phone goes to sleep. This can be reproduced by simply hitting the power button and waiting 15-30 seconds. At the point of wake-up, the phone is connected to wifi, the AP sees the client but the client fails to work. Analysis of the sniffer data shows the phone "SENDS" traffic but fails to receive. This issue was found on FORTIAP units that support the 802.11N protocol and when using A/B/G the issue did not present itself. I also noticed that while the phone was either charging or "awake" that pinging the phone was sub-10ms responses, once the phone went to sleep, pings went well over 100ms (See my theory at the bottom). As noted, if you simply disconnected and reconnected the wifi, the phone would work on WIFI "N" until it went to sleep again.
This post led me into a direction that seems to have resolved the issue. I was able to verify this does not happen on cheaper ISP AP's with "N" only enabled but happens on "smarter" "N" access points in multiple locations and on different APs. The behavior was consistent and after several hours of troubleshooting I have some settings that have 100% stabilized my phone after going to sleep. This issue did not present itself while the phone was charging via USB to the ADB connection or using a standalone charger.
Using ADB and connecting to my phone via USB, I ran the following commands:
adb shell settings put global wifi_on 1
adb shell settings put global wifi_automatically_on_off_wifi_enabled 0
adb shell settings put global wifi_watchdog_poor_network_test_enabled 1
adb shell settings put system power_save_wifi 0
adb shell settings put system power_save_wifi_restore 1
With this post, it was suggested to set the following, however in my phone it was already the case:
adb shell settings get global wifi_sleep_policy = 2
As noted by this posts author, you can change that if needed via:
adb shell settings put global wifi_sleep_policy 2
The original settings were as follows:
global wifi_on=2
global wifi_automatically_on_off_wifi_enabled=2
global wifi_watchdog_poor_network_test_enabled = 0
system power_save_wifi = 1
system power_save_wifi_restore = 0
I sure hope this helps others out there, LG didn't want to own up to this issue that is widely reported but at this point, I think I have settings that are stable and my phone is now usable.
Verizon sent me a new v60 phone and it also had the issue, this allowed me to test and troubleshoot to come up with this solution. This issue happened with both the March 2020 update (as shipped) as well as the June 2020 update.
My theory is the enhancement of the "N" protocol in the IEEE 802.11N enhancements where beam forming is able to reduce power. When the phone goes to sleep, it seems to lose track of the "beam" and the power reduction on the AP may cause this issue. I'm not really sure, but here's where I gathered that from:
Beam forming
As 802.11n systems emerges in the market as an important feature for enterprise Wi-Fi infrastructure. Beam forming is an important companion to 4×4 Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) technologies for Wi-Fi wireless networking. When it is included, it enables dramatic improvement in Wi-Fi 802.11ac/n performance, reliability, range and coverage. Beam forming is an optional feature of 802.11n. In its simplest terms, beam forming allows an access point to effectively concentrate its signal at the clients location. This results in a better signal, SNR and potentially a great throughput. It is a natural extension of the physical layer that has multiple radios and antennas in each station. By controlling the transmit power and phase of the collection of transmission antennas, it is possible to shape the effective gain of the antennas to create a pattern that points towards the receiving station a beam.

Same issue here using Google Wifi
Unfortunately I tried your settings but it is still happening. Not sure if I need to do anything else. I don't have a lot of experience with adb, but I was able to make sure that the settings were set. Is there a way to print out the list of current settings to verify that all is set. I did verify through the commands.
Anyway thanks!! Any other info would be great. I do have the latest July update. Thanks

So I tried slyguy2000's method (the ADB commands) and it worked perfectly. However, now I am getting really poor battery performance. My phone lasts 1 day with moderate use (4-5hrs of SOT) while before I used to get 10hrs of SOT. Is anyone else experiencing this issue.

My V60 seams to be working better. I had one of the settings that were not enabled "watchdog_poor_network_test" once I enabled it seams to work better. It will connect now even after a overnight period.
Yes I confirm that it drains a lot of battery overnight after setting change. Getting 24 hrs per charge, was getting a day and a half before.

I decided to go back in my settings to avoid the battery drain. I put everything back to stock but my battery was still draining. So I did a factory reset and brought back my last backup. Now it's all working fine. Even my wifi and no battery drain either. So not sure why, but it's all good now!
Strange!

I do have issues as well, on some SSIDs. Specifically it has issues with my home mesh network. Not sure if it is the mesh or the beamforming that it has issues with more.

[Q] Problem with hone wireless network connection

A couple of days ago my wireless connection quit working at home. The wireless network icon turned white all the time, and never switched to green. I hard wire the modem/router (ATT Uversre 2Wire 3800HGV-B) into a 5 port switch and plug my computer, network storage drive, and media streaming box into the switch. I've had all of this set up for a few months in it's current configuration and there was never an issue before. This just seemingly happened out of the blue...funny how computers do that sometimes, right? I have an HTC Aria, I was running CM7 RC1 when the problem happened, I just updated to RC2 hoping maybe it would change and it didn't.
After reading posts and checking settings here's what I've found:
My wireless router is set to act as the DHCP server. I set all of the IP addresses manually. I've had it set this way for some time, haven't made any changes recently. The attached network storage (D-Link DNS 323 also has DHCP server capability, but that is disabled)
I found that while my phone was set in the router's setting to connect to 192.168.1.67 for whatever reason it was connecting to 192.168.0.200 (which is out of range, my DHCP is set to address to 192.168.1.64 - 192.168.1.253)
Any idea what would cause this?
I have a temporary fix right now, I've set the phone for static IP and entered all the values. It now connects to my home network on the correct IP and appears to work. This will be a hassle though because there will likely be conflicts when I try to connect to public wifi or at my office. I could just go in and set it back to automatic IP when I leave home....but that is a hassle, and obviously, something isn't working quite right.
Anybody have a clue what would be making this happen?
thanks!

I don't understand when you say your router is your DHCP server but you set all the addresses manually...I can understand setting your network storage and media streaming to static IP's but you may want to reconsider for everything else, if your router allows for that to happen.
Have you tried rebooting your router and switch? May be worth doing that. I would not recommend a RESET because you'll have to reconfigure everything and I know how much of a hassle that is.
So, when you say you set the phone for static IP, do you mean through the phone gui or through the router?
Another thing to check is the number of available IP addresses. You could be out. I doubt this is the case in a home network, but never hurts to check.
"Do you mind if I turn up the AC?"
I have somewhat of a similar situation... I just installed CM7 RC2 and I can connect to my home's wifi and browse the internet etc... but some apps like Facebook won't update. With Facebook, I can retrieve messages sent to me but the news feed never updates and I can't view profiles. And for some reason everything works when I use my university's wifi...

Didn't help I don't get what's happening. I can use the browser fine but certain applications always time out and won't update.
I have the same problem. I've found the following apps to not work correctly when I connect my Sprint HTC Evo 4G (CM 7.0.3.1) to my home wireless network (Apple Airport Extreme Base Station):
Facebook (news feed won't update)
Amazon MP3 (Only the cloud player doesn't work)
Netflix (won't let me log in)
Speedtest (downloads fine but shows 0.00Mbps for uploads)
Again, all features works great on 3G or on the wifi at work (a university network running WPA2 Enterprise with LEAP authentication), which leads me to suspect there's something wrong with my home wifi setup. I have updated the Airport Extreme to the latest firmware and reset it several times yet the problem persists. Any ideas?

Jelly Bean build that doesn't drop wifi connection?

Like quite a few people I've been having problems with my S3 dropping the wifi connection, even though though I have "keep wifi on during sleep" set to Always (and have turned off wifi powersave mode using *#0011#). The connection also sometimes drops when the screen is on and actually downloading content.
I've tried various CheckROM and Wanam Lite builds and they're all had the same problem.
Is anyone running a Jellybean build that doesn't drop the wifi connection when in sleep mode?
That has nothing to do with the S III.
I was having this problem with both my S II and S III, tried several kernels in both, but then I found out the problem was with my network configuration.
I changed a few settings in my wi-fi access-point and now everything works correctly.
This is my setup:
- Wireless Multicast Forward (WMF) -> OFF/DISABLED
- WiFi Protcted Setup(WPS) -> OFF/DISABLED
- Auth -: WPA2-PSK with AES
Note: WPA2-PSK doesn`t work well with TKIP because if the phone by any chance falls back to 802.11a/b, TKIP will fail and the phone won`t authenticate
- 54g™ Rate: Auto
- XPress™ Technology: OFF/DISABLED
- 54g™ Mode: 54g Auto
- 54g™ Protection: Auto
- WMM (Wi-Fi Multimedia) : OFF/DISABLED
Actually, if I enable WMM(Wi-Fi Multimedia) my phone will sometimes not even connect to the access point. I found that disabling WMM had the best impact in my network`s stability.
Besides, I used an app called Wi-Fi Analyzer (free from the Play Store) that tells you what nearby wi-fi networks use which channel. I chose a channel that nobody was using and was more isolated from all the others. Do not leave channel in AUTO mode, because the AP might choose one that has lots of traffic.
In my house (where the setup above is installed) I have several neighbours using channels 1 to 8, but nobody using channels 9, 10, 11. SO I chose 11 because it has absolutely no interference from channel 8.

Ouch... better tell the guy to just shoot himself in the foot!
I'm EXACTLY the same.
I've been having Wifi dropout issues on every JB rom, was fine on ICS.
Tried power saver off (#*0011#).
Wifi sleep policies
Reflashing and flasihng other roms
Flashed different kernels
Flashed different modems
Fix permissions
various wifi fixers from the market.
AND IVE TRIED MANY MANY wireless access points around and about the country, all have the same issue (its not access point settings dependant)
All dont make a scrap of difference.
It makes Skype calls a nightmare.
One thing that i think helps, and im not 100% sure, but havent noticed any dropouts when applying this fix:
Root Explorer:
Turn off wifi. Mount R/W , go to efs/ and etc/ and /data/misc -> all three of these have a wifi folder in there. Set the permissions to rxrxrx (tick all 9 boxes) on each of these folders. And then turn wifi on again. And its USUALLY okay...
If you restart you will have to change the data/misc permissions again as it resets (so does the #*0011# trick).
Have a go, see what you think - i think it sort of works for me... but again, not entirely sure.
Hope this helps someone.

It seems that Jelly Bean is also more sensitive about it than ICS - I never had these problems with ICS.
My wireless routers don't have all of the settings that you'd listed - only these:
Buffalo router:
- Encryption (set to AES WPA-PSK - WPA2 is not available)
- Key renewal period (set to 60 mins)
- AOSS button (set to disabled)
- Wireless Mode (set to 11g/11b auto, but have also tried 11g only - "54M Turbo" )
- BSS BasicRateSet (set to Default)
- Multicast rate (set to Auto)
- Framebursting (set to 125* High speed mode)
- 802.11g protection (not enabled)
- DTIM period - set to 1
- Output power - set to 100%
Draytek Router (unable to check all current settings at the moment!):
- Security (set to WPA2/PSK)
- Mode (11g/11b/mixed)
- Packet Overdrive (enabled/disabled)
- Long Preamble (enabled/disabled)
Any ideas which of the above settings might cause issues with wifi on JellyBean?
I'll try the file system permissions thing later, but the fact that it needs to be repeated after every reboot is obviously a pain!
I have problems with the wifi at work too. Everything was working fine with the Draytek 2800 series wireless router (cannot remember the exact model) until the Jelly Bean update. I have tried different (stock) JB ROMs and modems (although modems are not related, i tried just in case). Each time I try to connect to the wireless network it is as if I am doing a DoS attack and no one can access the intenet until I turn the wifi off on my GS3. All it does in that time is "Work Network found" -> "authenticating" then the network disappears and reappears in a few seconds and then it is the same thing all over again. Of course I have tried forgetting the network, and re-entering the wpa key. I have also tried doing a factory reset to the phone, as well as the "*#0011#" method. None of these things worked. No one else is having any trouble with the wifi at work - and I wasn't until the JB update, so it must have to do with it, but I cannot find any work-around.
I have not been able to reproduce the problem with any other wireless network. Everywhere else that I have tried it works flawlessly.
Any help/ ideas would be appreciated!
I've now tried changing the firmware on my main (Buffalo) router. I tried DD-WRT, now Tomato, and my JB ROM won't stay connected to either.
Also having same problem since installes JB. i wnt wifi to stay on even when phone sleeps but cnt get it done like on ICS. Settings dnt change anything. How to fix that?

[SOLVED] WiFi issues on Mesh Network since Oct official Patch

Model SM-G925F (UK)
Android V 7.0
Build NRD90M.G925FXXU5EQI8
Android security Patch Level 1 October 2017
My wife just updated her s6 edge to the latest patch from Samsung (Oct 1 security patch), and now she cannot move around within my home mesh network.
Symptom 1 :
S6 Device - Turn On WiFi - Connect to WiFi (WiFi1 - a mesh network) - All OK
Move location - Device switches to closest node in WiFi1 mesh network - Device disconnects from WiFi1 with Authentication Error - Toggle s6 WiFi off/on - device connects to nearest node on WiFi1 - All OK.
Symptom 2 :
Move location - Device switches to closest node in WiFi1 mesh network - Device disconnects from WiFi1 with Authentication Error - Try to connect to different wifi network (WiFi2 - a std non-mesh wifi) - Device errors with authentication error - Toggle wifi off/on - device connects to WiFi2 - All OK
At no point do I have to re-enter passwords for either wifi. The S6 device was working on the mesh network before the latest update. Whatever is happening is killing wifi on the device, as I have to toggle it off/on in order to connect to any wifi network once it has failed.
I have factory reset the device, with no change in behavior. I suspect this has to do with the patch for the WPA2 vulnerability....
Any Ideas?

I am having this same issuebut on non-mesh wifi. Both my wife and I have S6 edge phones that are exhibiting the same issues. We do not have to move for the issue to occur. It will connect for a very short amount of time, then disconnect and say "Authentication Error Occurred." At a minimum it requires turning wifi on and off. I continued to have problems at my office as well. I am also suspecting the KRACK patch is the culprit. No other devices in my house appear to be having any issues.
I am currently testing a wifi solution from an old form at my office which appears to be working: Turn off Bluetooth... I turned off my Bluetooth and then i was able to successfully connect to the network. I have since turned Bluetooth back on and am still connected while moving between Access Points in my building. I have not connected to any Bluetooth devices since I originally turned Bluetooth off.
I'm not at a point where I would claim this resolves the issue. Could you try turning off your Bluetooth and see if you see improvement as well? Either way, I still think this is caused by the most recent security patches.
Thanks for the suggestion.
Toggling Bluetooth had no impact with the issue.
However, just be clear I am not experiencing any issues connected to my non-mesh guest 2.4ghz wifi. Once connected to this std wifi the connection persists and never drops.
In my own research I seem to remember one of the reasons behind issues for symptoms similar to yours, was caused by running the same SSID for both 5ghz and 2.4ghz networks, you could try renaming one if indeed you have this setup...
Thanks Again
I am having the same issue with a normal S6 after the 11/2 Verizon update. I have an orbi mesh system and each time the phone comes out of sleep it gives the authentication error. If I reset the wifi I can connect until the next time. Traveling between nodes can also cause it to start throwing the authentication error.
Following up, toggling Bluetooth doesn't seem to actually fix it. Just a coincidence I guess. I am still having issues but not as bad as they initially were. It seems to be most affected by moving around.

I know I am not using a mesh network and you mentioned switching nodes seems to cause your problem. My router does beam-forming and automatically switches between 2.4ghz and 5ghz based on signal strength. I'm wondering if its a related issue and switching frequencies is behaving similar to yours when you switch nodes.

Interesting... My mesh system uses both frequencies also, and this may be a similar cause, although under different circumstances.
I have a remote support session scheduled with Samsung tomorrow evening. I'll update the thread with anything of value that transpires.
Thanks
Just to update the thread....
Had a call with Samsung support, which was a bust. I spoke with a pleasant but technically challenged individual, whom informed me that my issue was because the wifi password was wrong, and that was all it could possibly be. When I asked her to explain how it could possibly be a password problem, she could not, and when I asked her if she understood the difference between a std wifi and a mesh wifi she did not. I may as well of talked to a chat bot.
I am now left with the choice of taking it to a Samsung repair center, living with the problem, or flashing the phone to a different rom (as this is my wife's phone its still locked and stocked so I do not want to open that can of worms unless absolutely necessary).
I am going to try 1 more time to get through to a technically competent person at Samsung, but I do not hold out much hope - maybe the next security update will solve the problem. I may see if I can find a stock rom file version released before the oct update, and downgrade.... Sigh...
Man that sucks they set you up with someone like that, thanks for keeping us informed of whats going on.

I'm experiencing similar issues with a Verizon Galaxy S6 edge. I just got the October patch a week ago and it has been a pain for several days with authentication errors. My wifi at home is a Deco Mesh, at the office we have a Netgear Nighthawk. So, problems with both mesh and std wifi networks. I did find a patch for the Nighthawk and that seems ok so far, updated about 30mins ago.
I did a factory reset on the phone using the Verizon Software upgrade assistant's repair option and that didn't fix anything with this. I think my battery is draining for the attempts to connect and scanning wifi. Other than that, my only solution has been to restart the phone. It connects before I even unlock the phone after restart which made me think maybe it was a service that was causing the issue once running but I could understand that if I walked out of the mesh node into another node as well. For the office, I would just look down and find that I was disconnected so I'm not sure when that was happening.
Would love to hear if anyone else has a solution.
Thanks!
I'm starting to see more/similar instances of this cropping up over on the S6 sub reddit....
https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyS6/comments/7c989b/wifi_wont_reconnect/
https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyS6/comments/7cbd4h/galaxy_s6_on_fw_70_now_has_wifi_issues/
Same here. S6 refuses to connect to Orbi since this last samsung update on November 2nd. And i agree...battery life is being wasted along with the wifi dropping constantly. Come on Samsung....FIX THIS ISSUE!
Same issue, very frustrating. AT&T Galaxy S6. Orbi at home and work has mesh wifi (I believe) and getting authentication error there too as well. Battery is like 40% after 2 hours off of charge. Major issue.
Exactly same problem here. S6 Edge, seen the same thing on Note 2. Happens on Orbi mesh and non mesh router at work. All happened with the latest patch.
Small Update:
Samsung (after a little back and forth) have passed this issue onto the development team. Who knows what will happen next.
Can I encourage you all to report the issue to Samsung and point them to this thread, the more reports, the more likely we will get a positive response.
Thanks
I confirm the issue on GALAXY S6 FLAT, italian no-brand version, after the october update.

Samsung (after a little back and forth) have passed this issue onto the development team. Who knows what will happen next.
Can I encourage you all to report the issue to Samsung and point them to this thread, the more reports, the more likely we will get a positive response.
Thanks

I created a thread here on the Samsung site: https://us.community.samsung.com/t5...s-after-October-2017-update/m-p/213559#M39427
Same issue on Samsung Galaxy S6 Active. Started happening after the October security patch. Also posted on Samsung's forums.
Same issue for me on S6 edge, ever since Oct 2017 security patch. Wifi drops, "authentication error occurred" , phone gets hot and MASSIVE battery drain until wifi turned off. Only temporarily fixed by flicking wifi off and on again, but error will come back again after a short while.
Same for Galaxy S6 (xeo) after last software update. I'm using Mikrotik solution.
I have an s6, and an s7 (for work) the problem is only with the s6. Very frustrating, never know if i'm connected or not.

LOS 14 phone has started to kill router on IP lease renewal (I think)

Originally posted in device specific forum, but no answers there. I'll edit that post as soon as this has a URL.
OK - I use LOS 14 which has been more or less fine ( a few documented niggles on the thread, but OK up to now)
About two weeks ago, without any obvious changes my WiFi locks the entire router - resulting in a router reset. Router is a "TP Linke AC750 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router"
I did initially think this was triggered by the IP lease expiry, but set IP addresses or maxing out the lease time didn't seem to work. But it does seem to occur when the phone reconnects
Edit - the more I look at this the more I think it is triggered by lease renewal, but fixed IP address fails to resolve!
I have increased the log settings - see screen shot - with "network_selection_disabled_association_rejection= 3"
Also, in the Logs there is WiFiQualifiedNetowrkSelector: <ssid>: <mac of router> is on blacklist
Looking around the net this error seems to be down to the phone blacklisting the router due to poor connections - but I didn't even leave the house today and it hit
I've tried lots of tweaks to WiFi, keeping it on, keeping it off. I have now just moved my Routers channel to a less busy one - but I have no idea what is causing it.
Edit - channel move and width reduction didn't do anything.
I have removed all the apps that I can recall installing just before this happened.
I have "forgotten" connection and made it again
ROM is as it is and was stable for months before this happened - Router firmware is up to date and went through factory reset - can't do that for phone for a week as it is my key generator for 2 factor authentication to work network and if I zap phone you can bet work will need remote access before next week!
Ideas anyone?
Cheers
Eserim
OK this report on Chromecasts killing Routers - is so similar to what I see, plus the timing of others with the issue match my timing, I am thinkiong this was the cause

P2P through mobile data's ipv6 network causes battery drain

My moto g 5g plus is on stock android 10 rom.
Although it lacks custom features , the battery performance is quite good.
I got 22 mins /1% on playing local small size 720P videos with brightness 2 sound 10 in mxplayer settings.
So when I perform a torrent download or live stream on twitch, I can observe a large downgrade of battery performance.
The same video only got 12min/1% after torrent download and 17min/1% after watching live stream.
From netstat, it will stuck on showing "tcp..." somewhere , and disconnect mobile data or turn on airplane mode will make it going on and shows "tcp6..." staff.
The downgrade meter may be related to numbers of connected ipv6 clients.
From battery side, this acts like something still try or maintain a disconnected client.
So I set mobile apn protocol to ipv4, somehow "tcp6..." still shows on netstat and battery performance still has a little downgrade (20 mins/1%).
And then I use this method
[GUIDE/APP][ROOT] Disable/Block IPv6 on Android (Prevent IPv6 Leak on VPN)
Note For Moderators:Please move this thread to somewhere in forum.xda-developers.com/android if that's a better fit. Simple App Alternative/Supplement [UNTESTED] With AFWall+ 2.9.0, you can now block IPv6 with iptables. NOTE This only blocks...
forum.xda-developers.com
echo 0 > /proc/sys/net/ipv6/conf/wlan0/accept_ra
echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv6/conf/all/disable_ipv6
add them to total commander shell command and excute.
Then battery performance back to normal.
Notice, the two steps are all needed.(APN and shell commands)
Another way is every time may involved p2p , perform an airplane mode on & off.
I tested all on mobile data .(wifi has not been tested)
Normal ipv6 site review doesn't affected.
It only related to p2p (peer-to-peer) on ipv6 network.
Don't know where it occurred , if in firmware driver then customer roms are affected, if in system side then not.
If you're in weired battery drain , you should look into this.(mostly after watching a live stream)
