My brightness will go all the way down and stay that way unless I toggle Auto on then off then back on does anybody else have problems with auto brightness?

Not really s bug but poor low light threshold. This problem was in earlier LG or Pixel I can't remember which one. They tweaked the lowest setting front 0 to 15 and it worked. Auto brightness needs manual ranges for user to be able to tweak.

Auto brightness solved
I fixed the auto brightness using Tasker. This works 100%, no excessive battery drain, no crashes, works perfectly. Set this up in Tasker (see screenshots). Make sure Tasker is excluded from battery saving and has admin and accessibility access. Enjoy.

Put a small, removable sticker over the light sensor on the top of your Rezound?
You can always get them to our come on, on demand, by placing your thumb or finger over the light sensor.

The ineffibilis gingerbread rom has the option to keep the lights on. ICS roms have them on all the time I think.
There's an app called keyboard backlight. It lets you keep them off or on all the time

well I'm not rooted so the only fix I see above is the "tape" fix or the "cover censor if you need to see them" fix.

Thanks for posting that, that app works perfectly.
I was using the mik tweaks in the inneffabilis ROM for this, but you have to reselect it every time you restart.

Other people in the ROM thread posted the same thing.

Blocking the sensor works, but...
I just tried putting a small piece of tape over the sensor and found that it works. The red buttons always stay on regardless of the ambient light conditions, however, during a call the screen will no longer go dark so that your ear, cheek, etc are no longer prevented from inadvertently clicking on anything. Obviously the sensor has a double duty.

Just so we're clear, this setting is broken, right? Mine still turns off WiFi after a little while of the screen being off. I remember reading a few weeks back that others were having a similar problem.

HTC One screen in daylight..

I own the HTC One and was watching the various video reviews on YouTube and some of the S4 vs One and all of them were saying the Ones screen could be seen under the sun and that its better under the daylight than the S4 ...not sure what these people were smoking but I can't see the Ones screen in direct sun light for ****.
Can't comment on the S4 so I'll reserve judgement on that device.
There is a screen protector on my One but I don't think it'd hamper that?

No screen performs well in direct sunlight at 50% brightness. This screen is the best out there in direct sunlight in my opinion, and I've owned almost every new phone there is.

Well there's your problem! Your screen brightness needs to be at 100% to look the best in direct sunlight. All smartphone screens are like this. You'll need to switch to automatic brightness or manually crank up the brightness when outside. And don't use power saving mode - it dims the screen.

[Q] Brighness Issues with Note 2

I just got the Note 2 a few weeks and so far it's my favorite phone I've ever owned. I love the big screen, I use the S pen all the time and the battery is tremendous.
One thing that I'm not quite fond of is the screen brightness, specially when using Netflix.
I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed this with Netflix but the brightness on the phone seems to be OK but as soon as I start playing something on Netflix it's really dim. I have the brightness turned all the way up and it still looks really dim.
The quality also isn't great either, it's like it's not playing in HD or something. I've tried connecting to 4G and Wi-Fi and it still doesn't always look so great.
Wondering if there anyone knows of a solution or a hack or something?
I watch a lot of Netflix on my phone and would love to solve this.
I am rooted and I'm using JellyBeans 21 ROM.
Thanks.
Try going back to stock ROM and check if the issue persists.
I noticed that beans rom has reduced brightness overall (cannot say for sure but that was what I felt comparing against stock)

Have you adjusted your quality levels on netflix.com yet? If your not worried about data or use wifi alot crank up quality settings on the site. Then reboot and fire flix back up. As the video buffers during play quality will slowly increase. Depending on your connection it should play pretty decent quality a minute or so into the video. And if you use mx player for your video files make sure you have mx brightness turned up. Im pretty sure mx settings are independent of system. Im also running 21 but I always use beans stock kernel. And even on the puter or xbox netflix Never truly hits HD.

Do a search on XDA and download the app called "A Brighter Note" (if you are rooted). It enables you to brighten your screen about 10% more.

If you do just remember one thing.
The AMOLED screen in our phones gets burn in if your not careful. the brighter the screen the quicker the burn in, at least thats what ive been told.
I have not seen any burn in on my phone, but I know people who are always at max brightness and you can see their status bar even in full screen apps because its burnt in...

Wait a minute... So when you did the vibrator hardware test it still wouldn't test the vibrator motor because you had battery saver on? That doesn't seem right to me. If you are trying to test hardware via internal diagnostic software menu it should pass the test and bypass the vibration off setting because of battery saver mode.
NVM - above is fact, I just verified. My mind is blown by this.

"Battery saver mode" has more authority than "diagnostic software menu".
It's a choice LG engineers made, but you are right -- it sounds like the wrong choice. I would be interested in hearing their logic on that.
